MEREDITH'S POV

On the night of the auction, I found myself feeling cheaper than ever. "Brenda, I can't believe I actually cashed that check!" I voiced my frustration while Brenda faced me, her lips holding a multitude of hairpins. One by one, she took them out, using them to secure my bun in place. "I can't believe I used the money I cashed."

I put $125,000 towards my mother's surgery and then used the remaining funds to cover a year's worth of her rent.

Brenda fixed the last hairpin in my hair, ensuring that its tip grazed my scalp. "Ouch!" I shouted in pain.

“You deserve that. You spent the money, so what? Mr. McTavish gave you that check after you gave him the goods. Seems like a fair trade to me. Now forget about it. It's not worth worrying about anymore."
