Discovering the truth

My sister sat down on the bed, and I thought she was about to resort to tears again, but she didn't.

"How am I going to get the loan shark's money?" she asked aloud, but I imagined it was a rhetorical question.

"Why don't you simply try to sell the apartment you bought?" I pointed out the obvious.

"You don't understand, do you, Sarah?" She looked at me angrily, and I just shrugged. "I'll never be able to repay this debt by working like some miserable nobody."

"I've lost so much in this whole ordeal," I spoke with disgust. "My stance is that you should sell the apartment, give the entire sale amount to the loan shark, and we'll figure out the rest."

Rachel quickly stood up, as if she had just had an idea, and I feared she would go even further with all this madness that had become our lives.

"I'm going to the nightclub. I'll try to find out something about that night I was there," she explained what she was thinking. "You need to come with me, Sarah."
