CHAPTER NINETY-THREE

HAZEL'S POV.

We were going to be having our fourth Christmas together. Me and the kids.

Ha. Surprised much? Yeah, I gave birth to twins. Two beautiful kids.

I watched them running back to the house, dodging between trees, and over rocks, with Xander coming behind them, sweat shining on his face, and a big smile that he'd been known to give the children whenever they went hunting.

Remembering how my labor had been so hopeless four years ago brought a smile to my lips. My water broke, and I was forced to give birth on my own.

I thought I would die back then, but here I was, swinging open the door, so my little beasts could run in.

Four years, but they were so energetic, and were always bouncing around.

“You were the slowest. I was running right next to father, but you were lagging behind.” Azella said as her little hands fought to brush her scattered hair away from her face.

“I wasn't slow. You were the one who kept running in my path!” Azel shouted back.

CHAPTER NINETY-FOURDARIUS' POV.“That can't be.” I pushed past the bars myself, and raised the arm of the seer. Cold, heavy… lifeless. She was truly dead. Just like that. She was gone with all her secrets, and everything she was yet to tell me.Her arm fell back with a plop, and my nostrils flared, as my teeth bit my cheek hard. I stormed out of the cell, and went to the dungeon guards, who had their trembling heads down.My burning gaze rested on their uneasy faces for a while, before I tried to speak in my calmest. Because I was afraid my anger would suddenly explode, and I'd rip them all apart before I could stop myself.“What happened here?” My voice shook with the heat simmering inside of me. “She… she died in her sleep. We thought she was sleeping. Even… even now, it's a shock to us. Nothing happened to her. She simply slept like every other… other prisoner.” He could barely get his words straight, and his eyes blinked way too much. My hand closed around his neck tightly,

CHAPTER NINETY-FIVEHAZEL'S POV.My hand clung to my shorts tight, as Xander looked at me. I'd finally said it. I needed to leave, and stop becoming more and more wrenched apart from society. “You can't be serious. You want to leave? At this time? No. That's not possible.”“Why not at this time? I've waited for so long. It has been four good years. Don't you feel pity for me even in the very least. What about the kids? Do you want them to grow up this way? Do you plan to make us stay here forever? With this kind of life? That's so unfair, Xander.”“I'm the one who will tell you what is unfair and what is not. This is for the sake of the kids.”“Four years ago, you said it was for my sake, but now it's for the kids, uh?”“Hazel, you can't leave.”“Why? You have no right over me. I'm a grown up woman. Surely, a twenty-two year old is old enough to make decisions for herself and her kids.”“Darius is looking for you! He's mad, and ordered that you be brought to him?” Why were his eyes

CHAPTER NINETY-SIXHAZEL'S POV.It was like a dream when we finally stepped out onto an actual tarred road. “Oh my God! What happened to all the sand?” The twins asked, as they saw a tarred road for the first time. It then occurred to me that they would be seeing almost everything for the first time. Even myself who was only isolated for four years found the lights blinding as we stepped out of the quiet road.“Mom! Look!” The twins screamed, and began to run. “Guys, no!” I shouted, but my smile was evident as I saw them stop to look around at the beauty of the whole place. Christmas lights were strung up everywhere, the trees were all wrapped in lights, buildings and colorful neon lights. The street was buzzing with people. The aroma of different restaurant and their dishes rose, and the sound of laughter, and people moving around all mixed to transform the place into life itself. The kids went onto the snow and began to do what they knew how to do best, which was making snowme

CHAPTER NINETY-SEVENHAZEL'S POV.My heart thundered, as I turned away. Azella was with Darius. She was even holding his hand. That hand with the claws that killed thousands. Panic raw and wild hit me. He would kill me. He would kill us. “Azel, follow me.” I said, quickly, going to a stall where they sold Christmas clothes. I immediately took a hoodie, and dumped it over myself, covering my head with the hood, and fixing my scarf around my nose. Quickly, I went towards both of them, my heart pounding in my chest. I was approaching death casually. If we were caught… I placed my hand on Azella’s shoulder, and looked down at her. She gazed up at me, and her eyes widened. “I'm so sorry. I was caught by the toys.” She apologized instantly, but I simply took her hand, not daring to look at Darius. “And who are you? Where are you taking her to? And what's with the scarf?” His deep voice rang out, stirring the combination of memories, fear and hatred rippling through me. For a while, I

CHAPTER NINETY-EIGHTDARIUS’ POV.Hazel. I found Hazel!I pushed recklessly, and dangerously, and soon, the whole place was thrown into confusion. A fat woman bumped into me, as everyone suddenly began to run for no apparent reason. “Get your fat luggage out of my face!” I shoved her aside, only to find that I couldn't see Hazel anymore. Everyone began to run, and they hit me from left to right. Damn them! What was chasing them?“It's really the King!” I heard someone shout, as chaos descended on the whole place. My head whipped from left to right, as I searched for Hazel. She'd completely disappeared in the running crowd. I couldn't even catch a glimpse of her hair. Slowly, the whole place began to get deserted, and I finally understood what happened.Someone saw my face, someone screamed, everyone ran, and thanks to all that, I lost Hazel. But… for the first time, it felt like my heart was finally alive.Hazel was here. CHAPTER NINETY-NINEHAZEL’S POV.The cab drove away quite speedily, and I stared once more at the house in which I'd spent my childhood, and most of my teenage years. I sighed. I was back to my house. The kids stared at the house with curiosity, taking in every little detail with awe on their faces. It wasn't much, but compared to the dingy little building Xander forced us to stay in, it was definitely a huge thing for them. I rang the doorbell, and we waited for a while, until stepfather suddenly popped his head out of the window. My heart took a jolt, and I got cold feet. What if he turned me away? What if he reported me to Darius immediately? Who knows? His hatred for me might have intensified over the four years in which we were apart. “Hazel?” He called, and his voice brought back memories. However, before I could answer, he was gone from the window. Seconds later, he emerged from the door, and made his way towards the gate. I held the kids closer to me, and for a while, his

CHAPTER HUNDRED DARIUS’ POV.I watched her leave, suddenly feeling uneasy. It then occurred to me that I’d almost found Hazel, but no single person showed anything close to joy or relief. They all looked somewhat unhappy. Like they didn’t want to go about looking for her, or they didn’t want to find her in the first place. Not even Xander looked happy. He was more of shocked, in an unpleasant way. It couldn’t be because I beat him up years ago when he was requesting the same thing I was ordering now, right? Not even Falcon showed any sign of happiness. He seemed to have that flat look that gave me the impression that he thought I was delusional.“Something is wrong somewhere. Awfully wrong.”I went back to sit myself on my throne, and tapped my foot repeatedly. “Theresa!” I called, and the head maid walked in gracefully, her head bowed low. “Get me something strong.” I said, and she bowed deeper, before retreating again. Perhaps, it was time to take this in another direction. I

We will track his license plate, and get all the information you will need. For now, you can have your rest.” He said, and I looked at the paused video for little longer before getting to my feet. “Tomorrow morning, when I call for you, I expect to have information on this man.” I said, and they all stood to bow as I walked out. My heart tingled with a mix of excitement and guilt. I was this close to finding Hazel. When we met, I would apologize, and tell her everything I needed to tell her. I just couldn't wait to find her. The night was unnecessarily long as I turned and tossed in my bed, images of Hazel on my head. She hadn't aged even one day. She was still the same Hazel. When we locked eyes, it felt like another connection was made between us, like we were given another chance, but maybe it was just me who felt that. She didn't look at all plea

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINEHAZEL'S POV {One Year Later}I pushed the baby in the cot, hearing him moan and look up at me with twinkling eyes. “Sweet Dennis, you know you want to sleep. Don't give mom a headache. You know I should be with the twins, right? It's their birthday, and you had me with you all day.” I said, touching his cheeks, and he giggled. His giggle— my freedom. After Xander had been banished, and Melissa had been cast into the dungeon, I'd been so traumatized. She'd truly given birth to a baby, but it had been given to Xander. That was the last thing Darius could do to compensate him as a Beta as he sent him off to never return. As for Melissa? She remained in the dungeon. The moment she gave birth to the baby, she hated it. She complained the baby didn't give her freedom and seeing it made her remember Xander whom she painted to be a traitor and a snitch. Staying in the dungeon had broken her and the maids whispered of how she murmurs inaudible words,

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-EIGHTMELISSA'S POV I yawned, stepping out of the room to get myself something to eat. Perhaps, it was just my intuition, but the house felt strangely quiet. The fridge light reflected on my face as I pulled it open, and I saw that Hazel's food for the day hadn't been given to her. “Are you planning to starve her now that we're going to kill her?” I called out, “Well, good riddance!”My voice bounced back to me in echoes, and I stepped back, “Xander?” My feet crossed the living room quickly to the room he usually slept, and I pushed open the door. He wasn't there. Did he really go to a hotel, or was he down in the basement with Hazel?Turning around, I went straight to the basement, and pushed it open, looking inside as I switched on the light. Hazel wasn't there! It hit me like a bolt of terror. “Xander! Hazel!” I called into the empty basement as if they would reply from some hiding place.“No, no! CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVENHAZEL’S POV I couldn't believe it when Xander was loosing the ropes from me. I was finally free. My hands were so white, and devoid of blood, completely lifeless. After freeing my legs, he helped me rise to my feet, but I fell back almost immediately. He caught me, and we waited a while for me to be able to regain the feeling in my legs. Walking was strange and difficult after being tied up for so long, but after taking a few steps, I finally began to get the hang of it, my heart pounding in excitement as we left the house. Xander took me in his car to the mansion, and I rubbed my hands in anxiety. I would see my kids. I would see Darius. Night had fallen completely by the time we got to the mansion, and when the guards at the gate saw Xander, they gave a signal, and different guards came out from different angles, surrounding us with weapons trained on us. “Beta Xander, you have been…” A guard began.“I know. I know… just take me to the Kin

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SIXXANDER’S POV As Melissa walked past me, my hands balled into a fist, and shook so much that I couldn't even find a way to calm myself. She had crossed the line. She had done way too much. She had said way too much!My chest burned intensely, as a wild heat rampaged around, spreading deep within me, like a fire racing down a forest, burning everything in sight. Damn everything. Damn it all. I wouldn't let her have what she wanted. My baby! She was going to give it to Darius. And then killed Hazel? That was impossible. Yes, I'm mad at Hazel, but I still love her and wouldn't just let her die. The thought ate at me for hours, digging deep inside of me, probing me, disturbing me, until I finally realized I couldn't stay still. Hazel couldn't just die like that. I know it sounds crazy to not want her dead after everything she did to me, but for the sake of the past… perhaps just for the past…I stormed down to the basement where she stayed tied u

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FIVE MELISSA’S POV Yes, Three long weeks went past, and my life became so static, and stagnant. Seeing Hazel’s face everyday honestly made me want to puke. At times, I’d meet her praying for her kids, and that would anger me more. She’d become a kind of punching bag for me because I vented my full anger on her whenever I felt like it. As for Xander, I didn’t know how he was doing it. For the time being, there was no trouble even with Darius having the kids, so I guessed all was going well. Perhaps he’d been avoiding Darius, although that was almost impossible and risking. However, how he handled it wasn’t really my problem. The only thing he’d become useful for was pleasing my body’s sexual desires. When he wasn’t doing that, everything else he was doing naturally became annoying. That very morning, I woke with a fever; something that was very rare for me to have. I got up, took some water, but my headache only got worse. Eventually, I crawled back

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FOUR DARIUS’ POV {Three Weeks Later}The last three weeks that passed were hectic. Azel was still so closed off, and wouldn’t talk to me. He would not eat, and get me worried so much that I’d have to ask Theresa to find out what he wants, and take care of him so he wouldn’t get sick. Recently, things got worse. Azella, who was the more receptive one suddenly locked herself up, and wouldn’t leave her room. It was what baffled me the most, and caused me sleepless nights. A knock sounded on my door, and Theresa came in, holding Azel, who had a lollipop in his mouth, and a scowl on his face. “Yes?” “You asked for my report. Azella still won’t come out, and keeps crying. She won't let anyone talk to her.” She said, and I pushed aside the hectic work on my desk, with a sigh, before rising to my feet. Damn. My men were all over, looking for Melissa now. She’d simply gone off the grid. Her phone was untrackable. All of her records were blank. How she did

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-THREE DARIUS’ POV {The Previous Day}My heart stirred as I beheld the two children before me. My kids. Seeing the girl again, my resemblance was present in her shining face. And the boy… he was a combination of me and Hazel. They were really my kids—my heirs. They were… mine. The feeling in my chest felt tight. Like I couldn’t breathe. Just the pain of seeing them so close to me. I’d missed so many important things in their lives. Things I wanted to do with my heirs—take first steps, go out somewhere nice, hear them call my name. The girl smiled happily, her cheeks turning a deep pink as her adorable smile reached her ears. However, the boy had a deep-seated frown on his face, making him look more like me instead of Hazel. I raised my hand, and the guards following all came to stand behind me.“Take the kids in. Give them to Theresa. Food, water, clothes, a bed… give them everything they need.” I said, and they nodded, going to the kids. Azella'

Firm, smooth, full… like a magnetic attraction, I was drawn to them, and couldn't take my eyes off them. And he made the move. He placed his hand behind my head, and bent to kiss me. It was when his lips touched mine that I knew it—my body ached to be loved. It ached to be wanted, wanted to be remembered. I'd spend so many years aching for Darius who never looked my way that I forgot what my body craved, and needed. My tears dropped as the kiss between me and Xander ran deeper, like we wanted to devour the whole of us, tongues gliding over tongues, over lips. My hands found the hardness of his chest, roaming around it as the feet seemed to pull out from underneath me. I fell against him, and he supported me, since the world was becoming unstable. My fingers ended up ripping his buttons, pulling his shirt

Two malnourished kids on their own for three days. They were dead. What would I do? My hands slowly threaded into my hair. If Darius ever found out…What would be my plan? He would soon realize that I would never ask for anything, and all I wanted was their deaths. What exactly was my plan?My hands fell limply to my sides, and I turned away from my parents, feeling the devastation continue to creep on me, snatching my chest in its iron grip. “Melissa!
