CHAPTER NINETY-EIGHT

DARIUS’ POV.

Hazel. I found Hazel!

I pushed recklessly, and dangerously, and soon, the whole place was thrown into confusion.

A fat woman bumped into me, as everyone suddenly began to run for no apparent reason.

“Get your fat luggage out of my face!” I shoved her aside, only to find that I couldn't see Hazel anymore.

Everyone began to run, and they hit me from left to right.

Damn them! What was chasing them?

“It's really the King!” I heard someone shout, as chaos descended on the whole place.

My head whipped from left to right, as I searched for Hazel. She'd completely disappeared in the running crowd. I couldn't even catch a glimpse of her hair.

Slowly, the whole place began to get deserted, and I finally understood what happened.

Someone saw my face, someone screamed, everyone ran, and thanks to all that, I lost Hazel.

But… for the first time, it felt like my heart was finally alive.

Hazel was here.

In my pack. In my Kingdom.

In no time, she would be bac

CHAPTER NINETY-NINEHAZEL’S POV.The cab drove away quite speedily, and I stared once more at the house in which I'd spent my childhood, and most of my teenage years. I sighed. I was back to my house. The kids stared at the house with curiosity, taking in every little detail with awe on their faces. It wasn't much, but compared to the dingy little building Xander forced us to stay in, it was definitely a huge thing for them. I rang the doorbell, and we waited for a while, until stepfather suddenly popped his head out of the window. My heart took a jolt, and I got cold feet. What if he turned me away? What if he reported me to Darius immediately? Who knows? His hatred for me might have intensified over the four years in which we were apart. “Hazel?” He called, and his voice brought back memories. However, before I could answer, he was gone from the window. Seconds later, he emerged from the door, and made his way towards the gate. I held the kids closer to me, and for a while, his

CHAPTER HUNDRED DARIUS’ POV.I watched her leave, suddenly feeling uneasy. It then occurred to me that I’d almost found Hazel, but no single person showed anything close to joy or relief. They all looked somewhat unhappy. Like they didn’t want to go about looking for her, or they didn’t want to find her in the first place. Not even Xander looked happy. He was more of shocked, in an unpleasant way. It couldn’t be because I beat him up years ago when he was requesting the same thing I was ordering now, right? Not even Falcon showed any sign of happiness. He seemed to have that flat look that gave me the impression that he thought I was delusional.“Something is wrong somewhere. Awfully wrong.”I went back to sit myself on my throne, and tapped my foot repeatedly. “Theresa!” I called, and the head maid walked in gracefully, her head bowed low. “Get me something strong.” I said, and she bowed deeper, before retreating again. Perhaps, it was time to take this in another direction. I

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND ONEDARIUS' POV.“How are you going to find him? Will it take time?”“Expect it to be done in the morning. We will track his license plate, and get all the information you will need. For now, you can have your rest.” He said, and I looked at the paused video for little longer before getting to my feet. “Tomorrow morning, when I call for you, I expect to have information on this man.” I said, and they all stood to bow as I walked out. My heart tingled with a mix of excitement and guilt. I was this close to finding Hazel. When we met, I would apologize, and tell her everything I needed to tell her. I just couldn't wait to find her. The night was unnecessarily long as I turned and tossed in my bed, images of Hazel on my head. She hadn't aged even one day. She was still the same Hazel. When we locked eyes, it felt like another connection was made between us, like we were given another chance, but maybe it was just me who felt that. She didn't look at all plea

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWO MELISSA'S POV.{HOURS BEFORE}I stayed in my room, with my thumb in my mouth, biting down on it seriously, while moving my foot restlessly up and down. Then Hannah came in. “Where's it?” I asked, getting to my feet, without giving her time to approach me. I snatched the letter in her hand, and almost ripped it open, my hands shaking as I went to the window to read, *Melissa, you must have heard by now, but the King has found Hazel. He saw her tonight. The men will all be looking for her on the streets, but we will have to be faster if you still want more time to work your way into the King's heart. I can't really tell what you've been doing all these years though. You should have managed to get him to see you as a woman, and not just someone random he who disgusts him. I am quite sure there's only one place Hazel will go to right now. Because posters of her might go out tomorrow, so she won't dare take hotels or anything with strangers. Hazel will go ho

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THREEHAZEL’S POV.Perhaps it was the feeling of restraint that woke me up, or it was the water dripping gently on my face, like a leaking ceiling, I wouldn’t really know.I felt miserable. My bones were sore, and I couldn’t even feel my arms. Then suddenly, an icy blast hit my face hard like a slap, drenching me from head to toe. My eyes flew open instantly. My breath hitched as the water streamed down my face, soaking my hair and plastering my shirt to my skin. Blinking furiously, I realized I couldn’t even wipe my eyes with my hands. They were tied. My gasp came out sharp and ragged, as I tried to catch my breath. Looking up, still trying to blink back water from my eyes, I heard the metallic clang of the bucket hitting the floor, echoing as someone I recognized began to pace around.“You’ve done enough sleeping, don't you think?”“M… Melissa?” I called in disbelief, and she turned round to face me, her eyes fierce as they beheld me. All she seemed to ha

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR DARIUS’ POV.“What do you mean by Hazel isn’t here?” I snarled, looking at the scarf offered to me. “She’s nowhere to be found.” He replied, and I sighed in frustration. With gritted teeth, I spoke, “There’s no way Hazel could have known I was coming. There’s nowhere for her to go.” My gaze sliced towards Hazel’s stepsister, who stood in the corner, holding her fingers before her as she chewed hard on her lip.“I… I didn’t do anything.” Slowly, I walked to her, taking step after step, letting the fear ring loud in her, letting it build up rapidly. By the time, I was so close to her, her eyes stared at my chest wide, ready to pop, and her whole face was completely white as she couldn’t stand my presence, and the full force of my attention. “Where is Hazel?” I let out menacingly. “She came. Hazel came. I’m… I’m not lying. Hazel was indeed here. I have nothing to do with it, oh please, don’t harm me. Hazel was here.”“What nonsense in the damned hells

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE MELISSA'S POV.*I was there again, walking in the shadow, stealing across the dark dungeons. The guards were all snoring, after sharing cakes given by me, eating them happily, without even thinking. She was awake, with tears streaming down her face. Her mascara had been miserably smudged down her face with her tears, and her makeup utterly ruined. She was nothing, but pathetic. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even notice me approaching her, until I stood in front of her. “Celia.” I called, and she finally looked up. “Lady Melissa!” She crawled forward to the bars of her cell, and looked up at me with desperation, “Get me out. They're gonna kill me. I didn't say anything. Lady Me…”“If you call my name once more, I'm going to cut that tongue of yours in half. Don't you use your brains? What if someone accidentally hears us?” I asked, glaring at her. “Fine. Then, I don't mind. Just… just get me out. You have to find a way to set me fre

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SIX MELISSA'S POV.“Uh?” My voice came out timid, shocked, and hesitant. That wasn't what I was expecting. What happened? Did he find out what I did? Did he know that I took Hazel? Instinctively, I looked down at the floor below which Hazel was drugged to sleep, and tied to her chair. My heart raced with fresh panic, rushing through me like a cold stream. “Where are you?” He asked, and it occured to me how silly it was to hide Hazel in one of my vacation houses. Darius could easily locate me, and then her. “B…business trip. What happened?”“Business trip, right? Get yourself down here.” “Dar…” the line went dead, and I dropped the phone, jumping to my feet. My fingers were trembling so much that I doubted I'd be able to actually hold anything. “Deep breaths, Melissa.” I said, and tried to steady my shaky breaths. Darius won't even think about coming to any of my vacation houses. He wants me to come to him. Another call came in, and my heart jumped. H

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINEHAZEL'S POV {One Year Later}I pushed the baby in the cot, hearing him moan and look up at me with twinkling eyes. “Sweet Dennis, you know you want to sleep. Don't give mom a headache. You know I should be with the twins, right? It's their birthday, and you had me with you all day.” I said, touching his cheeks, and he giggled. His giggle— my freedom. After Xander had been banished, and Melissa had been cast into the dungeon, I'd been so traumatized. She'd truly given birth to a baby, but it had been given to Xander. That was the last thing Darius could do to compensate him as a Beta as he sent him off to never return. As for Melissa? She remained in the dungeon. The moment she gave birth to the baby, she hated it. She complained the baby didn't give her freedom and seeing it made her remember Xander whom she painted to be a traitor and a snitch. Staying in the dungeon had broken her and the maids whispered of how she murmurs inaudible words,

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-EIGHTMELISSA'S POV I yawned, stepping out of the room to get myself something to eat. Perhaps, it was just my intuition, but the house felt strangely quiet. The fridge light reflected on my face as I pulled it open, and I saw that Hazel's food for the day hadn't been given to her. “Are you planning to starve her now that we're going to kill her?” I called out, “Well, good riddance!”My voice bounced back to me in echoes, and I stepped back, “Xander?” My feet crossed the living room quickly to the room he usually slept, and I pushed open the door. He wasn't there. Did he really go to a hotel, or was he down in the basement with Hazel?Turning around, I went straight to the basement, and pushed it open, looking inside as I switched on the light. Hazel wasn't there! It hit me like a bolt of terror. “Xander! Hazel!” I called into the empty basement as if they would reply from some hiding place.“No, no! Stop thinking crazy thoughts, Melissa!” Quickl

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVENHAZEL’S POV I couldn't believe it when Xander was loosing the ropes from me. I was finally free. My hands were so white, and devoid of blood, completely lifeless. After freeing my legs, he helped me rise to my feet, but I fell back almost immediately. He caught me, and we waited a while for me to be able to regain the feeling in my legs. Walking was strange and difficult after being tied up for so long, but after taking a few steps, I finally began to get the hang of it, my heart pounding in excitement as we left the house. Xander took me in his car to the mansion, and I rubbed my hands in anxiety. I would see my kids. I would see Darius. Night had fallen completely by the time we got to the mansion, and when the guards at the gate saw Xander, they gave a signal, and different guards came out from different angles, surrounding us with weapons trained on us. “Beta Xander, you have been…” A guard began.“I know. I know… just take me to the Kin

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SIXXANDER’S POV As Melissa walked past me, my hands balled into a fist, and shook so much that I couldn't even find a way to calm myself. She had crossed the line. She had done way too much. She had said way too much!My chest burned intensely, as a wild heat rampaged around, spreading deep within me, like a fire racing down a forest, burning everything in sight. Damn everything. Damn it all. I wouldn't let her have what she wanted. My baby! She was going to give it to Darius. And then killed Hazel? That was impossible. Yes, I'm mad at Hazel, but I still love her and wouldn't just let her die. The thought ate at me for hours, digging deep inside of me, probing me, disturbing me, until I finally realized I couldn't stay still. Hazel couldn't just die like that. I know it sounds crazy to not want her dead after everything she did to me, but for the sake of the past… perhaps just for the past…I stormed down to the basement where she stayed tied u

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FIVE MELISSA’S POV Yes, Three long weeks went past, and my life became so static, and stagnant. Seeing Hazel’s face everyday honestly made me want to puke. At times, I’d meet her praying for her kids, and that would anger me more. She’d become a kind of punching bag for me because I vented my full anger on her whenever I felt like it. As for Xander, I didn’t know how he was doing it. For the time being, there was no trouble even with Darius having the kids, so I guessed all was going well. Perhaps he’d been avoiding Darius, although that was almost impossible and risking. However, how he handled it wasn’t really my problem. The only thing he’d become useful for was pleasing my body’s sexual desires. When he wasn’t doing that, everything else he was doing naturally became annoying. That very morning, I woke with a fever; something that was very rare for me to have. I got up, took some water, but my headache only got worse. Eventually, I crawled back

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-FOUR DARIUS’ POV {Three Weeks Later}The last three weeks that passed were hectic. Azel was still so closed off, and wouldn’t talk to me. He would not eat, and get me worried so much that I’d have to ask Theresa to find out what he wants, and take care of him so he wouldn’t get sick. Recently, things got worse. Azella, who was the more receptive one suddenly locked herself up, and wouldn’t leave her room. It was what baffled me the most, and caused me sleepless nights. A knock sounded on my door, and Theresa came in, holding Azel, who had a lollipop in his mouth, and a scowl on his face. “Yes?” “You asked for my report. Azella still won’t come out, and keeps crying. She won't let anyone talk to her.” She said, and I pushed aside the hectic work on my desk, with a sigh, before rising to my feet. Damn. My men were all over, looking for Melissa now. She’d simply gone off the grid. Her phone was untrackable. All of her records were blank. How she did

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-THREE DARIUS’ POV {The Previous Day}My heart stirred as I beheld the two children before me. My kids. Seeing the girl again, my resemblance was present in her shining face. And the boy… he was a combination of me and Hazel. They were really my kids—my heirs. They were… mine. The feeling in my chest felt tight. Like I couldn’t breathe. Just the pain of seeing them so close to me. I’d missed so many important things in their lives. Things I wanted to do with my heirs—take first steps, go out somewhere nice, hear them call my name. The girl smiled happily, her cheeks turning a deep pink as her adorable smile reached her ears. However, the boy had a deep-seated frown on his face, making him look more like me instead of Hazel. I raised my hand, and the guards following all came to stand behind me.“Take the kids in. Give them to Theresa. Food, water, clothes, a bed… give them everything they need.” I said, and they nodded, going to the kids. Azella'

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-TWOMELISSA'S POV Damn it. I was drunk. She was probably not in her right senses too. The silence was too thick, and my eyes fell on his lips. Firm, smooth, full… like a magnetic attraction, I was drawn to them, and couldn't take my eyes off them. And he made the move. He placed his hand behind my head, and bent to kiss me. It was when his lips touched mine that I knew it—my body ached to be loved. It ached to be wanted, wanted to be remembered. I'd spend so many years aching for Darius who never looked my way that I forgot what my body craved, and needed. My tears dropped as the kiss between me and Xander ran deeper, like we wanted to devour the whole of us, tongues gliding over tongues, over lips. My hands found the hardness of his chest, roaming around it as the feet seemed to pull out from underneath me. I fell against him, and he supported me, since the world was becoming unstable. My fingers ended up ripping his buttons, pulling his shirt

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-ONEMELISSA'S POV PRESENTLY “The kids are what?” I asked, shocked. “Missing for three days.” My whole world crashed on me. They were dead. Two malnourished kids on their own for three days. They were dead. What would I do? My hands slowly threaded into my hair. If Darius ever found out…What would be my plan? What exactly was the whole plan from the start. Darius was never supposed to find out. He found out, and ruined everything. His patience would soon wear thin. He would soon realize that I would never ask for anything, and all I wanted was their deaths. What exactly was my plan?My hands fell limply to my sides, and I turned away from my parents, feeling the devastation continue to creep on me, snatching my chest in its iron grip. “Melissa! Where are you going in that manner? You…”“Don't act like you care! You ruined me!” I screamed, without even looking back. I needed to think.
