CHAPTER TWENTY ONE

HAZEL

Tears stung at the corner of my cheek as I watched Melissa's retreating figure.

“Are you okay, my lady?” Britney asked as she examined my body.

“I'm fine.” I said and smiled through the tears.

“Her fingers left a print on your cheek, it's red. And your arms are covered in bruises, let me get a first aid kit real quick.” Britney said as she made to stand from the ground.

“I'm fine, Britney, really. Can you please help me grab a scarf inside? I don't want anyone to see me like this, especially Darius.” I said. She didn't argue further and just helped me stand up from the ground. I sat on the bench and Britney went inside.

I sat alone with my thoughts, Melissa's words came back to haunt me. I knew Melissa didn't want me here, she made that very clear since the first time she set her eyes on me. But that doesn't make her words any less hurtful. I threw my head back and sighed. I closed my eyes enjoying the quiet atmosphere.
