Ava's POV

The car stopped at the shopping mall. It was almost three o’clock. I had timed everything to the fucking minute, and I wasn't going to screw this up no matter what.

I stepped out of the car and made my way into the mall.

Two guards accompanied me inside the building, watching me like a hawk. Everywhere I went, they went, and I figured it was going to be more difficult than I thought to slip away from them, but I'd be damned if I gave up.

I spent the first few minutes of my arrival buying jewelry and looking around before making my way to the first floor. I did the same on the first floor, the second, and the third, and by this time, the guards were letting up their guard out of pure exhaustion.

I darted my eyes to my watch. It was twenty minutes after three, and I made my way up to the last floor. The second I walked into the room, I cautiously glanced around for any sign of Indira, but there was none.

Where was she?

I browsed through the line of dresses and feigned intere

Miguel's POVShe even looked guilty.I cocked my head to the side, dropping my gaze to the shopping bag in her hand and studying it carefully. It was small, and from the looks of it, one could only expect about three to four clothes, at most five.Where had she gone for almost an hour? I wondered as I stared at her keenly. The question was still bugging me, but there was some relief, knowing she hadn't taken off like I suspected when I first got the call from the guards. But at the back of my mind, I still found it strange. There was no actual explanation as to where she had been for the past hour.Almost an hour and yet just one bag. Clearly, something was wrong.Everything felt off, and it had me on edge. The thought that I had almost lost her made me feel so cold inside. After that dinner with Mason, I had come to realize how crazy she was capable of driving me, and I really didn't want to lose her.Perez was right. I did feel something strongly for her, and it wasn't something

Ava's POVHours had passed since I heard Miguel's side of the story, but it felt like days. I had barely slept a wink all night. There was just so much to think about, and my mind wouldn't stop working.Miguel’s side had given me a different perspective on things, and my perception of him had been altered in a way. Not only that, things seemed to have changed between us as well. Miguel had changed toward me in just hours, and I could feel it all over me.He felt closer, and there was this soft touch in the way he acted afterward when he put my hand on his chest. It was hard to explain, but he just appeared more human and less of a devil.I didn't even know exactly what that meant, but it was good. It was like I was seeing him in a new light, and he was so...I couldn't find the right word to sum it up, but I liked the change. All night, I had thought about the tears that had dropped from his eyes when he spoke of his mom. The pain in his voice and how real it felt —how real it was,

  • Auctioned To My Mafia Lord   Chapter 57: Charred Skeleton

Miguel's POVI spotted the thick black smoke in the sky from half a mile away from the orphanage, and my heart twisted in my chest. It looked bad.Perez had emphasized that on his call, but seeing the sight of the smoke made everything way more real, and my heart couldn't take it. I thought of the children, the nuns, and the lives I had promised to make better.Tears laced my vision, and I increased my speed, driving through multiple red lights without care. They needed me, and I had to be there. I wasn't one to pray. I didn't believe in anything other than death. But for the first time since my mother's death, I found myself praying again.I prayed that the smoke was only exaggerated and no one had gotten hurt. As I got closer, I saw that the cops blocked the entire front yard of the orphanage. I swerved my car off the road and pulled to a stop on the other side of the road, and there was no getting any closer than I already was.The second I stepped down, I was greeted by a gut-

  • Auctioned To My Mafia Lord   Chapter 58: Worry Or Not

Ava's POVI paced around the room, feeling deeply unsettled. Miguel had been gone since last night, and he still wasn't back. What was going on over there?I was worried sick, especially with the way he just left after telling me the orphanage was on fire. That was quite the news to drop on someone before rushing out like that. Not knowing what was going on out there was driving me crazy, and staying in here wasn't doing anything to help me calm down. I needed to go to him and know what was going on.I unlocked the door and went to meet the guards downstairs for the second time. “I need a ride to the orphanage.”“I'm sorry, Ma’am. We already told you. We can't let you leave the premises without permission from the boss,” the leader said.I hissed, “You've got to be kidding me,” I breathed, “Miguel is out there, and I—” I sighed, realizing how pointless this was. They had their orders. They were obviously not going to let me leave because they thought I'd run away. I headed upstairs

Ava's POV“I'll go get you a drink,” Miguel suddenly offered and left us alone.Awkward silence filled the room as I tried not to stare at the little girl for too long.We barely knew each other, yet the way she looked at me was as if, she knew me in another world.“I think you should sit,” she suddenly said breaking the silence. My brows raised and for a second my brain went blank before her words replayed themself.“Oh! Yeah. Thanks,” I settled into Miguel’s seat. “So what's your name?” I asked.“Gracie.”“I'm Ava,” I whispered.“I know,” she said with a smile.“You do?” I raised a brow.“Yeah. He mentioned you.”“He did?”“Mmh. Mmh,” she nodded.“What did he say?”Gracie opened her mouth to speak when Miguel returned, and that was the end of it. We spend the next hour talking about Gracie’s love for elephants, colors, and all sorts.By the end of the conversation, I was certain the little girl loved Miguel to death, and he loved her, and honestly, I knew I'd love her, too. I was b

Ava's POVThe DiAngelos were the enemy? I couldn't believe it.My heart drummed in my chest, and my entire body trembled as I stood there, rooted to the ground at the sight of them. I couldn't believe this, nor did I understand it.They were CIA agents, and yet they were at this party. It didn't make any sense. I swallowed the bile that had settled in my throat and darted my eyes to the broken champagne glass on the ground. Everyone was staring at us —at me.“I'm so sorry,” I gushed and held my dress up as I attempted to crouch and clear it up, but Miguel stopped me.“Leave it. The cleaners will get it,” he looked at me carefully, concern etching itself on his face as he pulled me aside, “Are you okay?” he asked with a hand on my shoulders. My eyes darted to the DiAngelos, who were now glaring at me, and I felt a cold chill run down my spine. Did this mean they were never actually CIA agents? Did this mean they fooled me?“Ava,” Miguel jerked me out of my thoughts, “Are you okay?

  • Auctioned To My Mafia Lord   Chapter 61: The Burner Phone

Miguel's POVPerez held the burner phone in his hand, examining it carefully. He had been looking at it for over ten minutes, and I was now on my third joint.“You found this in your bedroom?” Perez asked for the fifth time, glancing at me, and I nodded again, holding the cigarette away from my lips briefly. He looked at it again, “And you're positive it belongs to her?”It was the same set of questions over and over again and it was starting to piss me off. “I think so,” I said through gritted teeth. He sighed, twisting the phone in his hand, “How did you find it?” he asked.I removed the joint from between my lips and pressed it on the ashtray, “It doesn't matter.”Perez frowned, and I faced the ashtray, watching the ash as I recalled how I found the burner phone. I found it under our bed a few days ago. To be precise, I found it the day after she went missing at the mall, and I have held onto it since then.I had suspected that something was going on with her from the night befor

Ava's POV“No. It's not!” I exclaimed, getting to my feet.I couldn't understand how he could be so chill about this. I just told him everything that I had been hiding from him. I was expecting some reaction. I expected him to get mad and yell at me or something, but instead, he was smiling.I couldn't understand it. I couldn't understand him. “How can you be okay with this? I just told you they sent me here to kill you!” I screamed the words at him.“But you didn't,” he muttered, folding his arms. He looked almost amused as he stared at me and I hated the way my heart reacted to that.“But I could have,” I insisted in a lower tone.“Yes, you could, but you didn't. I'm still here because you allowed it,” he said and shrugged, cocking his head a little, “I'm sure they know that too. You have been careless.”“Careless!” I echoed and smirked, “I spared you, dumbass!” I exclaimed, getting riled up again.“Dumbass,” he chuckled, “That’s a first,” he grinned, and I glared back at him in r

Ava's POV Miguel was there, sleeping peacefully with Mary Grace cuddled into his side.My heart felt hurt and I wished for just one second I could turn back the hands of time —just to make myself worthy again. But all of those were just wishes.I couldn't risk another moment around them for fear of causing them more problems. It was clear that I was the secret ingredient for trouble. And for the people I loved to be safe, I had to be far from them.I scooped Mary Grace from her bed quietly not wanting to wake Miguel. I kissed her forehead, tears gathering in my eyes as I whispered. “I love you, sweetie, and I'll always be here. I'll always be watching you like a hawk but for now, mama has to go,” I pressed my lips to her head again, and again.“I'm going to miss you, darling, but don't worry you're in safe hands. Your dad will take good care of you,” I squeezed her in my arms and then finally laid her in the crib, not wanting to risk waking Miguel up by dropping her by his side as s

Ava's POV A gun rolled to the entrance of the cockpit and I only hesitated for a second before handing Mary Grace to Gracie. I stood behind them but none of them noticed my appearance in the room. The weapon was heavy but that didn't matter much. But I had to do it, our lives depended on it.I focused my vision on him and the gun went off in my trembling hands.Lino's body dropped to the ground with a loud thud.If I had been just a second late he would have killed Miguel. Miguel's POVI raked a hand through my hair, listening to Perez fill me in about what happened at the hospital, and the men he had lost in the van explosion on their way here.Bastardo! My blood stirred.“Those were good men,” I mumbled, reeling in the loss as I ground my teeth and clenched my fist, “Lino. That scumbag,” I cursed, fuming inside.“I have everyone looking for him, and Mason. Perhaps he could lead us to him—”The sudden sound of the engine roaring to life echoed from behind us, and my head swirled to the Jet which was getting ready to take off. What the hell? I thought. Stunned.I creased a brow at the unbelievable sight before me. I could hardly believe it. I had no clue what was going on but that Jet was definitely not supposed to take off without an order from me.I couldn't understand it but Ava and my kids were in there, and that was all that mattered.Instantly, I sprinted towards the Jet, and Perez joined me as we raced to the aircraft. • Auctioned To My Mafia Lord   Chapter 155: The Traitor

Ava's POVI bolted upright, my heart pounding against my chest as though it was trying to rip itself out of my body. I was anxious. No. More than that I felt unsettled and for no reason too. I just had this bad feeling in my gut that I couldn't quite shake. Something felt very wrong but I didn't know what it was.I sat up in bed, staring into the darkness with the only source of light being the moonlight spilling in through the window. The air in the room felt heavy, suffocating, as if laden with an ominous foreboding that I couldn't quite place, and the uneasiness tightened in the pit of my stomach. I suddenly felt stuffy and needed some air.I slipped out of bed and glanced over my baby’s crib to see if I had woken her. I hadn't. Mary Grace was still sound asleep.I sighed with relief and made my way to the door. I stumbled towards the door, but my heart jumped again as I heard the sudden sounds of hurried footsteps. My stomach tightened and I pushed the door open gently, peeking

Miguel's POVLino was alive? That couldn't be.I had set the place on fire. I had watched it burn. It had to be a lie. Nando was definitely lying. I glanced at him, “You're lying,” I said.“I'm not!” He yelled with desperation in his voice and words, “I swear it. Mason is involved. I can prove it. Where is he?” I hesitated and turned to one of my men, “Where is Mason?” I asked, right in front of Nando. The man shook his head, “I haven't seen him all day. None of us have,” he responded. The words echoed in my head, and Nando's voice echoed beside me, “He knows... he knows you're onto him, and he's made a run for it.”Nando’s words made sense, and my mind was starting to churn with all sorts of thoughts. There had been something off about Mason since we caught Nando— maybe even since Lino.He hadn't come down to the cell for once, and I had barely seen him. It was almost like he had been hiding away all this time, and I just never really noticed.Everything was starting to align in my

Ava’s POVIt was midday, and Gracie helped me with a napkin to wipe the breast milk that spilled down Mary Grace’s clothes while I was breastfeeding her. I wiped it, cleaned her face too, before lowering my shirt.I pulled her to my chest and cradled my precious baby in my arms as I began to hum a gentle lullaby. Miguel’s favourite one and I hoped it would one day be her favourite one too.The melody flowed from my lips like a soothing river, wrapping us in its tender embrace like a blanket and its effect was tremendous on my baby. Mary Grace fell straight to sleep with her palm clutched tightly around my finger. I noticed she loved to do that, and I loved the feel of her palm around my finger. It was warm, and it made me feel a tremendous amount of peace. I rocked her back and forth, with the rhythm of the lullaby, and Gracie grinned beside me, wrapping one hand around my arm while caressing Mary Grace with the other, although she let her be the minute she was asleep so she wouldn't

Perez spun around the second I entered the room, “I was just coming to see you,” he said as he slid his phone in his pocket.“I spoke with the doctor, he will be here shortly,” He reported, and I regarded him with a nod. “How’s he holding up?”“He’s still a long way from hell but I'll make sure he gets there,” I replied. Perez smiled, “He's more than earned it,” he remarked, “Care for a drink?” he gestured, raising the bottle for a second before going on to pour himself a glass.“Sure. I haven't had one in a while,” I motioned towards him, taking notice of the room. “Where's Mason?” I asked after a minute of not spotting him anywhere around the room. “I’m not sure but he should be outside,” he said, and offered me a glass of scotch. I gulped it all at once and lowered the glass to the table.“Any lead for the antidote yet?” He asked.I shook my head, “Not yet,” I paused, “But I was thinking, per
