"What do you mean she lost the baby?" Pa Martins asked, his voice laced with confusion.

"Amelia had a miscarriage yesterday," I informed, glancing at my wristwatch. It was 8 am, and I had to be at the office before 10 am.

"Poor child. What was the cause of the miscarriage?"

"Cervical issues."

"Hmm. Now you no longer have a reason to be tied to her."

"Come on, Pa. We just lost our baby, and that is what you could think of?"

"Alexander, don't be overly emotional. We never got to find out if the child was yours. For all we know, she might have gotten rid of the baby herself to keep us from finding out."

I felt a pang of anger. "I don't need proof to know if the child was mine or not Pa. I'm certain the baby belonged to me."

"The only reason I allowed her to stay here, was because of the pregnancy. Now that the baby is no more. Why should she stay here?"

"Because she's my wife. Besides the public already knows. There is no need hiding it anymore. Amelia will stay with me,
