Amelia

"Is he still out there?" I asked Hayley, my voice barely above a whisper.

She crossed the room to peer out the window, her gaze scanning the street below.

"I don't see any sign of Alexander anywhere," she reported, turning back to me with a reassuring smile. "So, I think he's gone."

A wave of relief washed over me, and my shoulders sagged as I leaned against the couch.

"Thank goodness," I breathed, closing my eyes and letting my eyelids flutter shut.

Hayley settled beside me, placing her hand on my knee. "Are you okay, Amelia?" she asked, concern etched in her voice.

I took a deep breath, trying to shake off the lingering unease. "I will be," I said finally, opening my eyes to meet Hayley's gaze. "I just want him to leave me alone. I've made it clear I don't want anything to do with him."

"He'll get the message eventually."

"I shouldn't have gone to New York for that convention," I said, frustration etching my voice. "If I hadn't gone, he wouldn't have remembered I existed."
