We stepped into the grand ballroom, scanning the sea of familiar faces.

I stood at my sister's engagement party, surrounded by laughter and champagne toast. But my mind wasn't on the celebration.

It was on Amelia.

I had promised Sarah I wouldn't bother her tonight, but I couldn't help scanning the room for her face.

She was nowhere to be found.

I frowned, feeling a pang of disappointment.

I should have focused on Sarah's happiness, but my eyes kept searching for Amelia.

Charlie appeared beside me, his gaze fixed intently on Henry. "Quite the occasion," he said, his tone neutral.

I nodded, aware of Charlie's reservations about Henry.

"I know you don't approve of Henry being with Sarah," I said, "but I also know you love Sarah and care about her."

Charlie's expression remained stoic. "I'm not going to say anything," he assured me.

"I know you won't," I replied with a hint of amusement. "Just put on your usual charming smile. You look like you just ate shit."
