She dashed forward and kicked his leg with her full strength. Pain shot through his entire leg from his shin but the only reaction he gave her was a mere twitch of his eyebrows. Since he did not move, BaiXue ended up ricocheting off his leg instead.
She leapt up, aiming for his chin next, then spun in mid air to kick his cheek. Each time, his head snapped along with her kick. A little bit of blood trickled from his lips. However, that was it. LongFei stood there without moving a single step. It was as if he was merely slapped hard by someone.
BaiXue retreated and charged forward to lunge at his stomach. She knocked the wind out of him but he still refused to move an inch. He behaved like a human punching bag.
BaiXue breathed heavily. /...Am I still weak or is he really strong?/
[Regardless of that... He's...] BaoBao sounded a little concerned.
/Not defending at all./
[But why?]
/.../
BaiXue pondered for a while before she asked him coldly, "Why aren't you defending?"
"I know I'm being selfish." LongFei replied easily.
"After you've seen how much I hate it, you're still set on not bringing me down?"
Instead of replying, he threw a question back at her, but in a small voice. "Don't you have to focus on cultivating?" This was his last attempt at keeping her here. He abhorred the idea of her getting close to that black bird or relying on anyone else, but it would be worse if she ended up hating him.
"What do you mean?" She wondered what he was coming up with now, to make his offer more desirable to her. She changed back into her human form to talk normally. "I AM planning to cultivate while I keep watch."
"I can help you keep an eye on whatever you need to watch out for. This way, you can fully focus on cultivating without a worry that you'll miss anything. If you need to rush down the mountain because of something, I'll help you do that as well. Use me as your eyes and limbs." This was the first time in his life that LongFei explained himself this much. He felt a little nervous. /Did I get my point across?/
BaiXue did not have to think about it for long to know that there was no value added for her. She already has BaoBao who could look out for her while she focused on cultivating.
Seeing that she was unconvinced, he added on, "I will still cook for you so that you have no need to hunt and there are countless longevity peaches for you to eat here." He was referring to the peaches that seemed to cleanse and improve her body constitution.
"Can't you do that for me while I'm below the mountain?" BaiXue still tried to make it difficult for him.
"If I flew down and go to you each time, won't it give away your position?"
/He gave a reasonable explanation. There's nothing for me to reject now./ She really did value maximising her time to cultivate. Time was tight for her. Moreover, she did not expect him to stay with her all the time while she cultivated, neither did she wish for that to happen.
She started to waver a little. BaoBao could not appear any longer because LongFei was watching.
However, she really disliked the idea of owing LongFei. She truly could not think of anything to give him in return. This cultivation method she was trying out in this world is unlikely useful for him.
As if he could read her microexpressions, LongFei's gut told him he was about to get rejected. His shoulders slumped. His face fell. He really wanted to be of use to her. He wanted to be the one she could rely on. /Am I not the strongest after all? Maybe someone else deserves to stand by her side instead.../
"Can you at least tell me your reason for not wanting my help?" LongFei asked solemnly.
"I don't want to owe you. You've done more than enough for me already." BaiXue outrightly admitted.
"But you wouldn't owe me... If anything, you're doing me a favour." LongFei looked at her with sad eyes.
In contrast, BaiXue's eyes widened in slight surprise. "What?"
LongFei looked back at her in confusion.
"What do you mean?" She asked him calmly.
"I'm the one requesting for you to stay. If you talk about owing, then I'm the one who would owe you a favour." He elaborated.
BaiXue frowned a little. When he said "favour", Ethan from the previous world appeared in her mind. /What a coincidental choice of word.../
BaoBao had a hunch but did not dare to voice his opinion out. He knew how much she did not trust in any of the main characters from day one.
BaiXue sighed aloud then accepted his proposal. "Let me know when there is an attack on the village."
His face brightened up considerably and he smiled for the first time in this world. Although it looked a bit awkward, it was still charming. "Feel free to explore the house. Treat it like your home."
She left him and did exactly that, in search for a spot to cultivate peacefully. The entire place was designed in a similar way to the room she had woken up in last time. It was spacious and sparsely decorated with extravagant pieces. There were two other bedrooms that she deemed useless, since he did not seem to have guests over. There was a common area to have meals in and an open kitchen beyond the common area, where a pale plum blossom tree, a little further away, swayed in the cool gentle breeze. She instantly grew a liking for that spot.
Once she walked to the tree, she realised that it had a clear view of the mountain with the basilisk's cave, which made her raise an eyebrow. She could not see into the cave like LongFei could, but if her orientation was not messed up, she guessed that he should be able to.
[Pfft! The second male lead of this world has stalker-like behaviour. His arrivals were not timed, he had always been watching you!] BaoBao snickered.
/Well, that would explain how he kept appearing on time whenever FengJiao needed his help./
[Like how he appeared whenever YOU were ready to eat too.]
/...This is not about me./
With that, she changed into a rabbit under the tree and began her cultivation.
For the next 2 days, BaiXue focused on cultivating, only pausing to eat the food that LongFei cooked for her. Whenever LongFei brought her food, his heart warmed at the sight of her, calmly cultivating under the cherry blossom tree, with pink petals occasionally drifting down around her. It was a view he would never get tired of. If waiting on her meant that he could admire her ceaselessly, he would not mind it doing it forever.
One evening after dinner, LongFei finally came to her with news of an incoming attack on the village. There was a suspicious group of carnivores heading towards the village. They behaved in an orderly manner and did things with a clear purpose. Once he concluded that they were human shapeshifters, he returned to report to BaiXue. The first wave of attack had commenced.
BaiXue climbed onto his back in her human form and clutched his silver mane while he flew down closer to the ground from behind the bandits so that she could witness the attack herself. BaiXue made herself comfortable on a tree branch and watched on as the bandits wrecked havoc in the village. It was quite an interesting and refreshing sight because, unlike any other villages that she had seen, the villagers here participated in the fight to defend their village.
MengYao could not participate because he was still healing from the injuries inflicted by LongFei. He hated how he would be forced to witness FengJiao be used as a weapon to protect the village. However, he gradually realised that it was not the case.
He noticed how well coordinated their actions were. Nobody relied on FengJiao and threw her to the front lines to defend them. Instead, it was as if FengJiao was their backup and impregnable defense that would save them if they failed to protect themselves. Whenever someone was about to be killed by a bandit, she would swoop in at the right time. MengYao frowned, unable to believe what he was seeing.
Before long, the bandits who were still alive also came to the same conclusion that FengJiao was just waiting to roast them alive. Understanding that they stood no chance, they ran off.
BaiXue's eyes lit up as she sat up straight. This was the moment she was waiting for. She gestured to tell LongFei to follow the one who ran the fastest and was the furthest away from the village. However, in the midst of tailing the hyena from high above, a long pillar of golden flame shot from the direction of the village and finished him off.
BaiXue frowned. The female lead of this world was less merciful than she thought. The book only described how the village survived every attack sent by FenFang. It had not specified that FengJiao finished every bandit off. BaiXue blew the whistle that FenFang gave to her then asked LongFei to bring her back up the mountain.
FenFang was surprised when she got the signal that the attack failed. She had expected it to take around half a month before receiving news. Nonetheless, she sent out an order for the next attack. Seeing how easily this batch was defeated, she chose the people for the second batch more carefully.
LongFei came again with news of another attack in the evening 3 days later.
This time, BaiXue told him to let her dismount some distance ahead of the bandits. She hid in the bushes in her rabbit form, while LongFei stayed hidden among the trees in his human form. It did not take very long before the group of bandits ran past the bushes that BaiXue was in.
Just as the last person of the group ran past her, she jumped up and kicked his head hard. The dark brown wolf yelped in pain and suffered a concussion. LongFei then swiftly swooped in to carry them away, simultaneously knocking the wolf out cold.
By the time the wolf in front turned back to check, they were out of sight. He frowned in confusion. He was sure that there was someone else running behind him. This made him stop to think. /Are we found out?/
"Hey! What're you doing falling behind?!" Someone ahead called back to him. "We're almost at the village! Hasten your pace! We have a deadline to meet!"
"There's someone missing!" He informed them.
"Nonsense! Only you're lagging behind! Now, hurry up!"
The guy who stopped snarled and pushed his concern to the back of his mind and ran to catch up with the others ahead of him.
/A deadline? What could she be threatenening them with?/ BaiXue wondered to herself. They were hiding up in a tree some distance away from the group but still within earshot of the conversation.
BaiXue looked up at LongFei, who carefully cradled her in one arm and carelessly held onto the wolf in the other arm, and nodded. At her signal, LongFei brought them over the mountains to the other side. At his speed, they crossed the mountains in record time.
Just as BaiXue jumped off his back upon reaching their destination, he roughly shook the unmoving lump off his body. It fell with a thud onto the floor. The rough handling finally woke up the unconscious wolf. LongFei, with his proud and majestic aura, caught his attention first. It took him longer to notice the meek and plain looking woman standing nearer to him. His eyes then darted around. Realising that he was alone, separated from his group, he eyed the pair warily, then suddenly took off.
/What idiots for not tying me up. They're too overconfident./
However, just as he thought that, a strong force hit his stomach, causing him to fly high up into the sky. The pain was so crippling that he could not break his fall and crashed back down in a heap. He whimpered breathlessly in pain.
"She did not say that you could leave. How dare you run off." LongFei said dispassionately.
BaiXue strolled into his sight moments later. This time, LongFei stood closer to the wolf, like a guard keeping watch on a criminal.
"Where's your village?" BaiXue asked with a light and casual tone.
The wolf glared at BaiXue with hate-filled eyes. What does she have that gave her control over such a strong individual? He refused to believe that a meek looking woman like her was strong enough to gain the support of such a person. Suddenly, he was kicked in the face and teeth flew out. "Watch how you look at her." LongFei warned in a threatening voice. "It's on this side of the mountains, isn't it?" BaiXue probed. The wolf eyes widened in realisation. He had been so occupied with running away earlier that he had not noticed he was back on the other side of the mountains. LongFei broke the wolf's leg with a stomp. It yelped and howled in pain."She's asking you a question." LongFei warned again, impatient with the wolf. The wolf snarled at BaiXue with sworn vengeance in his eyes. He pinned the blame on her. All of a sudden, his head crashed down into the ground and he got pinned like that. A hand dug painfully into his neck. He
BaiXue waited among the unmaintained tall grass that grew right by the lake and was almost as tall as LongFei. LongFei sat on the ground further behind her, staying hidden behind more tall grass. Soon, the lion appeared through the tall grass in front of BaiXue. "Can you prove that your information is trustworthy?" He went straight to the point without bothering to greet her. "I don't have to prove anything. You can see it for yourself. If nothing comes up, feel free to join in the fun of the raid." The lion stared warily at her. "Why help me then?" "Aren't you the strongest and the best? Isn't it a waste of talent to send someone as majestic as you to his death just because of some lowly scheme of a lowly person?" The lion beamed with satisfaction at the praises she piled on him. His tone became more amiable as he asked her, "What do you get out of this?" BaoBao mocked the lion for being so easy to manipulate while LongFei was f
The sun had begun to set, by the time a huge bunch of animals appeared out of thin air charging in a direction towards FenFang's dwelling. ShiJiao was at the front leading everyone. He looked rested and recharged for the upcoming fight. BaiXue continued to cultivate without a bother. LongFei slunk away, changed into a dragon, and identified each and every one of the appearing animals. Just as there was no longer anyone exiting the illusion, Long Fei spotted the animals that BaiXue spoke of. They were positioned close to the back of the group. He instantly shot out his ice cold flames to circle the group that BaiXue wanted. The unfortunate animals who were around that group either got killed or injured. The entire horde stopped and stared at the silver dragon in the sky. Their faces were filled with shock and fear. "Go. I only have business with this group here." LongFei commanded. Everyone regained their senses and ran with greater fervour. Lo
A sudden large influx of mystical energy got drawn into BaiXue's body. The distirbance in the air was so great that it put out the fire surrounding her and the tiger. She started to grow bigger and bigger, until she was half the size of a tree. Her snow white fur turned into a dark maroon red. The fur at the end of her ears grew longer and became fluffy tufts, while her tail grew longer with the fluff remaining at its end. A sparkly dark purple aura surrounded her. The tiger froze in his spot in fear and trepidation. His eyes were wide and jaw dropped open. "It's time to send my long overdue gift to brother." Her cold words shocked the tiger back to his senses and he went scrambling for his life. BaiXue felt renewed. Her body teemed with strength and power. She swung her tail around her to deal with the 5 lackeys who were attempting to flee in different directions. The moment her tail made contact with their body, their bodies broke and
LongFei appeared at the doorway within the next second. He was met with a view of her sitting on the bed and holding the bright red thick blanket against her chest, with her fair slender bare back facing him.It was a very inviting scene. A random stray image of having his lips against her soft back popped into his mind. Wham! BaiXue jumped at the sudden sound and turned her head to look quizzically at LongFei. "A spider." LongFei said as he dusted the slight dent he created on the door frame. /Could he be scared of spiders? Look at that dent in the frame./ BaiXue talked to BaoBao. BaiXue did not yet notice the slightly red patch on LongFei's forehead. [Yes, that was quite a weird and violent reaction for a small spider.] He had witnessed how LongFei headbutted the wall. LongFei coughed lightly then walked in calmly like nothing happened. /Why am I having such thoughts about her.../ LongFei chide
It was slightly past noon when LongFei returned. He hovered above BaiXue frowning. "Why are you here?" BaiXue ignored him to stay focused on her cultivation. She could feel that it still had the same effect of increasing her power. Perhaps this was what unsettled LongFei's ancestor, even though he already had the crown. LongFei sighed. "You better rest up for a fierce fight. That nine tailed fox is no challenge for me but it is different for you." BaiXue opened her eyes in surprise. "How did you know that she was a nine tailed fox?" "Nine tailed foxes specialise in magic instead of combat. I made a guess when I saw the standard of magic she had cast over an entire village." "How do you know? I don't see any records detailing such useful information." "They're all passed down knowledge." "You've been talking about knowledge passed down through generations. But aren't mystical beings born by chance and rare?" "That's only
FenFang finally frowned and changed into her nine-tailed fox form, anticipating a fight. In her fit of anger and anxiety, she momentarily forgot about the restriction MengYao placed on her. Black chains appeared all over her body. One end led to a collar around her neck. The other ends all seemed to disappear into the ground below FenFang, restricting her movements. She felt utterly humiliated to be seen in such a state but was not willing to back off without a fight. Just as BaiXue lifted a hand towards FenFang, LongFei entered through the front door in his human form. A black cage appeared out of nowhere above him and dropped down. He frowned in annoyance but reacted fast. He overbearingly swung his hand above him like he was simply swatting a fly away and the cage flew to the side easily. This thoroughly shocked FenFang who still had no idea who this intruder was. On the other hand, BaiXue's lips twitched at his show of power that she would never have, whi
LongFei could easily sense MengYao's bloodlust directed at BaiXue. It made his heart thump wildly and uncontrollably in urgency. However, he could not seem to break out of the obsessive thoughts about FengJiao in his mind that held him there. His face scrunched up in annoyance and agony. His mind compelled him to fly back to tend to FengJiao and give her the cure-all antidote. His heart warned him that there was something else far more important than FengJiao that he had to attend to right now. All of a sudden, the softest yet most significant cry of pain in his life reached his ears, and struck a chord within him. It snapped him back to the present and he looked towards the source of it. The sight of a maroon rabbit all curled up into a ball and shivering uncontrollably with a black phoenix nearing dangerously close to her made him see red and lose his mind in a panic. He flew at the fastest speed he could go and the sound was like cutting through wind itself.
RenRan began napping. A lot. Souls did not need sleep, but they could choose to do so. FanHai was one of those who seemed to never catch a wink of sleep. While RenRan slept, he stayed by her side, always keeping himself busy with something. This carried on for a good time before she began to catch him with his guard lowered after waking up. ‘A while more.’ RenRan did not believe that a man like him could keep himself entertained this long and resist a cat nap with her. At this point, BaoBao cried out in frustration. There were a few times she could have slipped away because he had already fallen asleep with her! He even dared to cuddle with her. That spot was only reserved for two people! Him and the familiar soul! “Is it really too much to assist by waking her up?” He challenged the elder one. “Is it so hard for her to stay awake in a world that doesn’t need sleep?” He challenged BaoBao back. “...That’s easy for you to say.” Then, BaoBao puffed his cheeks and returned to gl
RenRan’s eyes opened wide. No matter how hard she pushed against him or how much she pounded his chest, shoulders, or head, he persisted on. She tried to bite him, but he avoided using his tongue and skillfully moved his mouth in tandem with her attempts. With his hand cupping the back of her head, she could not break the kiss either. She was at his complete mercy. ‘I should have dropped the act earlier. This isn’t worth it!’ Fear slowly gripped her heart as she wondered how far he would take it. Then, he stopped, just as suddenly as he started. “Enough?” He grinned and meaningfully applied greater pressure on her lower back. His move made RenRan conscious of the rock hard member against her abdomen. Immediately recognising what it was, she fiercely pushed against his chest and demanded, “Okay, let me go! I’ll properly spend some time with you first!” He smiled with satisfaction. “Like I thought.” Then, he let her go. “You wouldn’t have to waste so much time and energy if you jus
RenRan’s heart jumped but she poised herself promptly, ready to grapple with whoever had manhandled her. “Why’d you run away from me? Didn't we have deal?” The somewhat familiar deep voice cleared up the situation. “I’m not running from you.” RenRan explained as she attempted to pull her arm out of his strong grip. “You know you can’t lie with this within us.” He pointed at his chest and kept on his tight smile. “You got to try harder than that to convince me.” RenRan frowned. “And I was precisely following that to find you, as agreed.” His smile gradually disappeared as his gaze dropped to study her entire body. “…You’re weaker than the last time I saw you.” RenRan had nothing to say in response. Instead, she attempted to twist her arm free again. “Even so, I’ve never heard of a compass malfunctioning because of this before.” Annoyed with his accusations, RenRan tuned in
RenRan headed for a condensed group of swirling sparkles that was just a little larger than her. ‘So, my mission is to achieve my dream no matter the cost. What’s my dream? To find YingTao? No, I’ll definitely find him. It’s just a matter of time. Then, I’ll find out that YingTao doesn’t want me anymore. And I’ll want him back...’ RenRan thought of everything that had happened in RenRan’s life. ‘I can only hope that her dream’s that simple...’ She began to think of all her misdemeanors, then ways to right her wrongs. [I should stop you right there. If it wasn’t clear enough before, as long as you’re in the story scenes, you’re supposed to do and say all the things the original character did.] ‘What? You didn’t say that earlier.’ [I mentioned earlier that it's risky to provoke this world’s consciousness into doing anything. So, we can only observe this world. What do you think this mea
Luna was right. She had inhabited Luo RenRan’s body. RenRan’s family belonged to the working class, but her gripe was not their standard of living, it was her parents’ favourtism for her brothers. She was the only girl, and she was the oldest. Anything her brothers did, she was responsible for. Any wrong they committed, they were let off with a more lenient punishment, while she was supposed to forgive and forget. Their expectations for her and the restrictions they imposed on her could not be compared to the standards they held her brothers against. The only solace she had was that her siblings never directly crossed her line, even when she was old enough to start working. If only it stayed that way forever. “RenRan... Forgive your brother, okay? You know he only took it because he needed it and only you can help him. If you have someone you need to blame, blame your father.” A gentle motherly voice coaxed her. “If your father helped, none of us would be
“Wh- What am I doing here?” BaoBao looked around in shock. He recognised this place. The last time he was here, it was to defend Luna. “Why am I back here?”The elder one sighed. “Why did you do it?”“D- Do what?”Gasps were heard around him.“It lies.”“It truly deceives.”“Surely, that’s bad.”“This can’t go on.”“It’s always this one system.”“Clearly there’s something wrong with it.”All the administration looked at the elder one, waiting for the go ahead. The elder one looked at BaoBao so intensely as if BaoBao was a specimen under his microscope. BaoBao gulped. He felt exposed. What was with this elder one? Whatever the case, Luna had already been sent to the next world. He could not dilly dall
“Don’t ignore me! I know you’re awake!” Someone pushed Luna’s shoulder hard. Her eyes flew open, and a purple and black galaxy unfolded before her. Her bottom left whatever she had been sitting on, but she did not fall. There was a resistance that made her body glide instead. Luna blinked a few times, stunned. "I dare you to say it again.” The same voice challenged her. Luna turned towards the source. There it was again. The sensation when she moved was familiar. However, she had no time to make sense of it. The deep voice belonged to a burly woman, instead of a man like Luna had assumed, not that it made anything better. Her guest looked as friendly as a starving lioness. Luna straightened her neat celestial-like robes while she quickly collected her thoughts. It shimmered and shone brighter than the glow emanating from her body. The fabric was so silky to touch that it was like water. Although it was transluc
“LUNA!” BaoBao jumped onto her. Luna grunted from the impact. It reminded her of how much he had grown from the first time she met him. ‘How is he so weightless but so heavy at the same time?’ “Hi BaoBao,” she laughed lightly, “Is this your new way of sending me to the next world?” “Huh?! No, no! It’s far too soon to be sending you to the next world, isn’t it?!” Luna laughed even more. “I was just teasing.” BaoBao blinked innocently. “Oh.” Luna looked at him endearingly. “You’re still so much like a kid.” She rubbed the top of his head lovingly. “Don’t systems live for eternity, if nothing goes wrong?” “Mmhm, what about it?” “It still felt that long to you?” “YES!” BaoBao confirmed without a second thought. Luna laughed. “Let’s spend some time together before heading to the next world.” BaoBao’s heart warmed and h
Nozomi closed her eyes and thought hard about his request. It did not feel right or good to take his years, but she had no right to dictate how he should live his life.‘Since he’s really fine with it...’Nozomi pushed her hands forward to cup his cheeks. “Okay...”Hikaru’s eyes brightened up. He promptly retrieved his book and readied himself. Nozomi watched Hikaru activate his magic with interest. The way his book’s ribbon splits and transforms into a robe and staff never got old. “Thank you, for going along with my wishes.” His heartfelt gratitude was reflected in his eyes as well. Nozomi smiled in understanding and squeezed his hands that were once again holding onto hers. Hikaru closed his eyes and focused on her presence, then said the incantation that he had memorised by then.Green glowing vine marks appeared
