While the group had been making their way to her tree, Xinyi observed them and figured out the core and filler members of the large group.
Based on their conversations, Xinyi identified the buff man as the spy that ZhangYong and WangWei were chasing down. When she did, she started rambling to herself.
/Is this the world consciousness trying to correct events by pulling me back into the plot? Does this mean that the original soul died around now? Did I even manage to delay her death? Or is my luck just this bad?/
The moment the spy left his spot to head towards one of her gardens, Xinyi made her move. He knows. He definitely knows.
[Eh? We're leaving? Why? We have the advantage of this being our home ground.]
BaoBao was incredulous when Xinyi started backing away into the darkness and using it as a cover while she moved from platform to platform. This was the first time Xinyi decided to run away from intruders who discovered her existence.
/That advantage isn't enough to close the gap between our strengths. Think about it, he ran away from ZhangYong who's now at high level Heaven realm. How would we fare against him?/
[Isn't it more dangerous to risk being spotted while you're running away?]
/He doesn't only know I exist, BaoBao. He knows where I am. My guess is that people in the Heaven realm do not sense the presence of people but, more specifically, the spiritual energy within people. It would explain how he could pinpoint the locations of my gardens. I still don't know why he chose to check out the gardens first, but he'll eventually come to me. I have to get as far away from him as I can in the meantime./
BaoBao no longer asked her any questions and got ready to materialise himself to fly her away once he could.
While Xinyi made her way across the platforms, she did not forget to release the hold on her traps. She did not expect the traps to wipe them out but she hoped that it would take out as many filler characters as possible. The fewer she had to deal with, the better it would be.
When chaos broke out behind her, Xinyi kept her full focus on getting to the cave so she did not slow down or look back even once.
The moment she entered the cave, she asked BaoBao for his help in navigation. The cave was shrouded in the kind of darkness that one would not be able to see their hands even if it was placed right in front of their faces. The first time they made it through was by Xinyi feeling her way around. Now that BaoBao has the way memorised, he could fly her through it smoothly.
BaoBao appeared by her side without delay, already holding onto her hand, then lifted her off the ground that way.
/Fly me at the speed that I would be running at./
[Why?! He'll catch up in no time!] Even though he asked for the reason, BaoBao did as she instructed.
/We don't know the range of his detection. Unless your maximum speed can beat his, it would be worse if he catches me and questions my sudden burst of speed./
Knowing that his speed does not beat the spy's, BaoBao continued at Xinyi's pace.
/Bring me as close to ZhangYong's camp as you can./ Xinyi instructed with the belief that Zhangyong was the one fated to bring an end to the spy's life.
[On it!]
Not long after they left the cave, however, BaoBao whined in alarm. [He's gaining on us. He's gaining on us. I have to go now!]
/On the branch!/
BaoBao deposited her on a branch then disappeared. As soon as he disappeared, the spy arrived at the scene below her and looked up at her with smiley eyes.
"Nice to finally meet you. Aren't you going to come down and greet me properly after all the chasing I've done?"
Xinyi didn't reply. She merely stared at him with a frosty and guarded expression.
"Come now, come now. I won't harm you. I just want to get to know you. You're very intelligent. Your little gardens. Your impressive traps. Consider it an achievement that you got noticed by me."
Xinyi, however, just kept staring at him.
Finally, the same dangerous look Xinyi saw before entered his eyes again but his tone still sounded as sweet as ever. "I should let you know that I'm not very patient."
No longer able to drag it out any longer, Xinyi gritted her teeth and jumped down.
He stared at Xinyi who stood a few steps before him. Her black shoulder-length hair was scraggly and messy. It covered her face like a veil which he found to be teasing. Wanting to see the face of the person that intrigued him greatly, he reached out to brush aside her hair. However, she moved away from him as if repulsed by his touch.
He raised an eyebrow in amusement. He did not try to touch her again and simply took his time to study how she looked.
Seeing how she was more than a head shorter than him, how she was almost half his size, and how her clothes hung off her loosely, he commented, "You're small and dainty for a man."
Suddenly, he reached out at a speed that Xinyi could not react to. One arm circled her waist and pressed her body against his. His other hand brushed aside her hair to reveal a feminine looking face. He grabbed her by the chin and turned her face from side to side, closely studying her features.
The look he had on his face clearly showed that he was thoroughly entertained by her.
The hand that was on her chin moved to her back. He copped a feel by sliding his hand up and down her back and side. It made Xinyi's hair stand on its ends.
When he felt the how toned her body was, he commented again, "You train hard. Diligent."
Some semblance of appreciation started to enter his eyes.
Suddenly, he tugged onto the back of her clothes without warning, making it mold to her body shape. It revealed every curve her 21 years old body has. Xinyi finally scowled at the way he ogled at her body with an appreciative but also lecherous gaze.
When she felt one of his hands making its way under her garments, she threw a punch at his face. He dodged it easily and his hand continued to make its way to her bare skin. She struggled hard and one of her legs managed to lodge between his legs. Once it did, she immediately raised a knee to his balls. This move finally made him let her go and back away from her.
Xinyi was ready to get beaten up and die for her defiance. It was a development she was willing to face than be sexually violated. However, she looked at him standing still at the spot he backed off to, looking as amused as ever.
/He really has a screw loose in his head./ Xinyi thought to herself.
"Tell me about your little gardens. Why's the soil so special?" He finally broke the silence with a question.
"Special? Is there something special about the soil?" Xinyi chose to humour him. She did not want to risk him getting close to her again in his effort to get her to reply.
"Why did you choose to plant your little gardens at those specific spots?"
"There was an abundance of wild plants at those spots so I took it as an indication that it was more fertile there. Is there a problem with that? Why're you so interested in my gardens?"
After a short pause, he asked again, "What's a young woman like you doing here? Living in the wild like this."
Xinyi guessed that she must have sounded convincing enough for him to not want to let her know of how special the ground must be.
"I ran away from home."
"Why?"
"Marriage."
His eyes went round then he broke into a fit of laughter. "You're truly wild. Hard to tame. It's like you're born to tease me."
Xinyi did not know how to respond to that so she kept silent and continued to stare at him with a cold and wary gaze.
The look on her face seemed to please him even more and his eyes curved even more, turning into crescents. "Mm… I've decided. I shall make HuiShan my woman who will serve me and live for me the way she does for that prince. And you... You'll be my darling pet. I bet that you'll keep me very, very, entertained."
"I reject."
"That was not a question." He said lightly.
"I won't go with you."
"I don't think that's a wise decision, because, you see, if I can't have you, no one can." He said with a slight pout.
"So you'll kill me now if I continue to resist? Is there no other way I can make you give up on me?" Xinyi knew what his answer would be but asked anyway. Her current objective was to stall for time. She had not forgotten that ZhangYong was still doggedly searching for this man.
"Your only options are to be mine or be killed."
Upon hearing his answer, Xinyi drew her sword, then assumed a defensive-offensive stance and maximised her continuous cultivation ability.
"You've actually mastered the peak cultivation method." His voice was filled with some awe.
"That's my kitten. You're already doing a good job of entertaining me." He praised her with a bright smile. "Don't give in to me. I'll make you mine!"
He dashed forward and pinned her hands above her head against the tree in a split second. In reflex, she did the only move that was effective in making him back off earlier. She raised her knee upwards to jam his balls hard which he had to back off to dodge.
Just as he wanted to attack again, the rest of his group finally caught up.
He then relaxed and leaned against a tree. "All of you, help me roughen her up." He ordered them while looking at her with a sickly sweet smile. His eyes held the unspoken expectations he has for her.
All the men turned their gaze onto the person that he indicated. The two at the front of the group were, however, met with the sight of a sword cutting the air and heading straight for their throats.
Xinyi had moved first to catch them by surprise in her effort to reduce their group to a more manageable size.
She successfully lopped off one head while the other escaped with a graze at his neck. She then immediately followed up with another strike that he could not react to fast enough. The lethal gash across his torso combined with the impact of her spiritual power instantly knocked him out cold.
Without pausing for even a moment, she quickly engaged the ones furthest away from the spy in a fight.
Because the men were already on their guards, she only managed to knock the other two out instead of killing them. She was still satisfied with it though. This was only possible because she had the momentum of being the attacker on her side which she was quickly losing. The two men behind her were now fighting against her at the same time and she was forced to be on the defensive.
She subtly and skillfully dodged in a direction further and further away from the spy. Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her stomach that made her spit some blood out. The men halted their actions in surprise. None of them were responsible for that.
"Little kitten, go too far away from me and you'll be punished." The leader's light voice rang out clearly. He had a smile on his face while tossing and catching a rock in his hand. The cold but amused look in his eyes told her that he was aware of her intention from the start.
Xinyi gritted her teeth and glared at the spy. Even if she could bear with pain, it did not mean that she liked feeling pain.
The two men quickly resumed fighting when their leader coldly glanced at them.
While he was enjoying the scene of her desperate struggle, the lean man who called the spy a wild dog regained consciousness and interrupted his fun. "Leader Han, even if you want to play with her, bring her back to our hideout to play. Not here."
The spy lost his smile and he looked at the man with killing intent reflected in his eyes. "I've about had enough of you telling me what to do and what not to. You're just a right-hand man assigned to me who could not even defend himself against a little wild kitten. Why should I let you destroy the fun I'm having right now, huh?"
The right-hand man clenched his jaws and hands but knew that it was wiser to not say anything at the moment. He continuously cursed his fate in his mind for being put in charge of keeping this uncontrollable and volatile leader in line.
Suddenly, the spy threw the rock in his hand away and a sick smile returned to his face. "Count yourself lucky. My little kitten saved your life." As soon as he said his last word, he dashed to catch Xinyi who was falling from a considerable height.
Xinyi had run up the tree then jumped and swung from one branch to another like a nimble monkey. She scaled the tree with ease and tried to put as many branches between her and the spy as she could.
However, a sudden excruciating pain in her leg made her lose her footing and fall all the way back down, crashing into some branches along the way. The rock he threw had shot through the branches in its way before hitting her leg.
The spy adoringly looked down at Xinyi who was in his arms. "My kitten's so smart and observant. You noticed that I was distracted and tried to leave me. Good girl."
Xinyi continued to glare at him and her face slightly scrunched up because of how he made her feel sick to the core. She threw a punch at his face and he reacted by dropping her like a rag doll.
The impact from falling onto the ground caused more pain to shoot through her entire leg.
"Ngh-!" She cut off the cry that barely escaped her mouth, clenched her jaws, and pursed her lips. Tears clung to the corners of her eyes and her hands clutched onto her thigh.
With the pain this bad, she was sure that her shin was at the very least fractured.
The spy got aroused from watching the way she stubbornly refused to look weak in front of him and the way she tolerated the pain. He licked his lips then declared, "Alright, I've had enough fun, let's move on to the main course, my kitten."
The spy bent down to pick her up again but Xinyi swung her sword at him, which he easily dodged. Each time he tried to approach her, each time she swung her sword. Leaves and dirt flew. Deep cuts formed on the ground. The spiritual power of her attacks increased her attack range and would normally have kept people at bay, but looking at the ease at which the spy was dodging every one of her strikes, she was sure that he was merely toying with her. His eyes were filled with glee while he very slowly but surely got closer to her. He was already picturing the ways he could have her later. After letting her swing her sword around for a while more, he finally threw out another rock to put a stop to it. The rock hit her hand and made her drop the sword. In the same instant she dropped her sword, he reached her side and caught her. After he sheathed her sword for her, he carried Xinyi under his arm
The spy's words made ZhangYong freeze. His senses came back to him and his guard was instantly raised. Because he had his full focus on the spy, it was only now that he realised there was another presence. He looked up and found the tip of a sword an inches away from his face. Although his fast reflexes enabled him to dodge instantaneously, it was still not enough to escape unscathed. The sword grazed past his cheek and cut his jaw but the assailant did not stop there. When he saw ZhangYong dodge, he reacted at the same time and changed the angle of the sword so that it plunged towards ZhangYong's chest. A loud thud sounded and blood spilled on the ground and on the spy. The assailant's body hung lifelessly off the tree trunk that the spy last crashed into with a sword pierced through his heart from his back. The spy and ZhangYong were momentarily stunned by the unexpec
Luna regained consciousness and found herself back in the black claustrophobic space. Her body felt light and comfortable again. It felt as if her experience of dying just moments ago was nothing but a bad dream. "Is it always like this here?" Luna looked at BaoBao who was in the space with her instead of talking to her through telepathy like the first time they met. BaoBao looked around the seemingly empty space. "Seems like it..." "It can't be changed?" "This space is supposed to reflect the host's heart. I've never heard of it changing its appearance before." "So my heart's black?" "I don't know. We've never considered interpreting its appearance." "Doesn't matter then." Luna had only asked about it in passing. "Would you know what happens in the rest of the story?" "Yup! I will know everything alon
Luna woke up to intense pain coursing through her entire body. She hissed in frustration. /First I wake up weak like I was on the verge of dying. Now I wake up in pain like I'm dying again. What next? I wake up when I'm supposed to be lying dead in a coffin?/ BaoBao winced. He could not control when she would appear in the story. [Do you want to receive the original soul's memories first or for me to carry you somewhere to recover first?] /Give me the memories. I need to understand the situation I'm in first before knowing where I can go./ The first thing Luna understood upon receiving the memories was that she was in a dog eat dog world. Everything was decided by power, including the position of the ruler of the country. All they had to do was to challenge the ruler to an official death match, if the match was refused, a revolt was allowed. People in this world had real magical abilities. They could create s
Alice quickly realised that her spiritual energy could not flow in or out of her body. If she had to describe it, it was as if her pores were clogged or plugged close. Now that she focused intensely on the quality of the air around her, she could not feel the same energy in it that she felt in the previous world. So, she could only circulate and control the flow of the energy within her. She played around with the flow, then tested if she could concentrate the energy flow to a specific body part. Finding that it was possible, she moved on to test the effects. She set up the pillow nicely against the wall, then punched it with her good arm. Poof. Her punch was measly. The original soul had seriously neglected training her body, like many other magic users do. She fluffed up the pillow nicely again, then threw the same punch, except this time, she concentrated the flow of energy into her arm. Her hand flew faster. Ponk! Along with the sound, some stuffing squeezed out of the holes tha
BaoBao knew that Alice could not see so he warned her. [Defend!!] Alice immediately curled herself into a ball and surrounded herself with a water wall. In the next instant, fire broke through the earth and hit her. She focused her defense on her left side while she kicked the walls around her repeatedly. She did not dare to take a break. She did not know how much he had reinforced the cage and her water wall was already dangerously thin. Just before her water wall completely evaporated, her foot broke through the earth box. However, she jumped right into another earth wall. One of his lackeys had stayed alert and provided assistance when he saw Alice break out. Her water wall evaporated. Intense heat seared her sides and a short cry escaped her mouth. As soon as she felt the burning pain, a strong cooling breeze blew through the entire area. The earth walls around her shattered and she braced herself for impact. Instead, she found he
Meanwhile, back in Alice room, Alice reflected on the fight with the fire user, while looking at the water ball floating above her bandaged hand. She thought about how her water wall changed to steam. /Understanding our ability like it is a part of our body... I know the chemistry of water and about the movement of particles... Would it be possible to manipulate it down to the individual particles?/ She visualised her water ability down to its individual water particles then imagined them moving differently. She visualised slowing down the particles' movement and making them increasingly compact. Sweat began to bead on her forehead from her intense concentration. It took a whole five minutes before BaoBao exclaimed, "I see some frost forming on the surface!" Alice made the water disperse and panted. /It's possible! I can change the state of my water!/ BaoBao could not believe it too. If she could change the state of water into ice an
That night, the first sparring match was held. Violet first paired up with Alice while Ethan paired up with Stephan. Violet was not an overbearing opponent and Alice felt like it was a perfect practice match for a warm up. Moreover, Violet's fire ability was naturally against her water ability. It was good for her to practice increasing the strength of her power and withstand other's attacks. After an hour, Ethan paired up with Alice while Violet paired up with Stephan. Ethan was a little trickier as he had a similar fighting style with Alice. However, she still did not have to go all out with Ethan because he left loopholes in his stances and attacks that she took advantage off. After another hour, Stephan paired up with Alice, while Violet paired up with Ethan. Alice knew that Stephan was unlike the other two who would go easy on her, so she decided to use this chance to go all out. Despite that, Stephan looked the most bored out of the three she sparred wi
RenRan began napping. A lot. Souls did not need sleep, but they could choose to do so. FanHai was one of those who seemed to never catch a wink of sleep. While RenRan slept, he stayed by her side, always keeping himself busy with something. This carried on for a good time before she began to catch him with his guard lowered after waking up. ‘A while more.’ RenRan did not believe that a man like him could keep himself entertained this long and resist a cat nap with her. At this point, BaoBao cried out in frustration. There were a few times she could have slipped away because he had already fallen asleep with her! He even dared to cuddle with her. That spot was only reserved for two people! Him and the familiar soul! “Is it really too much to assist by waking her up?” He challenged the elder one. “Is it so hard for her to stay awake in a world that doesn’t need sleep?” He challenged BaoBao back. “...That’s easy for you to say.” Then, BaoBao puffed his cheeks and returned to gl
RenRan’s eyes opened wide. No matter how hard she pushed against him or how much she pounded his chest, shoulders, or head, he persisted on. She tried to bite him, but he avoided using his tongue and skillfully moved his mouth in tandem with her attempts. With his hand cupping the back of her head, she could not break the kiss either. She was at his complete mercy. ‘I should have dropped the act earlier. This isn’t worth it!’ Fear slowly gripped her heart as she wondered how far he would take it. Then, he stopped, just as suddenly as he started. “Enough?” He grinned and meaningfully applied greater pressure on her lower back. His move made RenRan conscious of the rock hard member against her abdomen. Immediately recognising what it was, she fiercely pushed against his chest and demanded, “Okay, let me go! I’ll properly spend some time with you first!” He smiled with satisfaction. “Like I thought.” Then, he let her go. “You wouldn’t have to waste so much time and energy if you jus
RenRan’s heart jumped but she poised herself promptly, ready to grapple with whoever had manhandled her. “Why’d you run away from me? Didn't we have deal?” The somewhat familiar deep voice cleared up the situation. “I’m not running from you.” RenRan explained as she attempted to pull her arm out of his strong grip. “You know you can’t lie with this within us.” He pointed at his chest and kept on his tight smile. “You got to try harder than that to convince me.” RenRan frowned. “And I was precisely following that to find you, as agreed.” His smile gradually disappeared as his gaze dropped to study her entire body. “…You’re weaker than the last time I saw you.” RenRan had nothing to say in response. Instead, she attempted to twist her arm free again. “Even so, I’ve never heard of a compass malfunctioning because of this before.” Annoyed with his accusations, RenRan tuned in
RenRan headed for a condensed group of swirling sparkles that was just a little larger than her. ‘So, my mission is to achieve my dream no matter the cost. What’s my dream? To find YingTao? No, I’ll definitely find him. It’s just a matter of time. Then, I’ll find out that YingTao doesn’t want me anymore. And I’ll want him back...’ RenRan thought of everything that had happened in RenRan’s life. ‘I can only hope that her dream’s that simple...’ She began to think of all her misdemeanors, then ways to right her wrongs. [I should stop you right there. If it wasn’t clear enough before, as long as you’re in the story scenes, you’re supposed to do and say all the things the original character did.] ‘What? You didn’t say that earlier.’ [I mentioned earlier that it's risky to provoke this world’s consciousness into doing anything. So, we can only observe this world. What do you think this mea
Luna was right. She had inhabited Luo RenRan’s body. RenRan’s family belonged to the working class, but her gripe was not their standard of living, it was her parents’ favourtism for her brothers. She was the only girl, and she was the oldest. Anything her brothers did, she was responsible for. Any wrong they committed, they were let off with a more lenient punishment, while she was supposed to forgive and forget. Their expectations for her and the restrictions they imposed on her could not be compared to the standards they held her brothers against. The only solace she had was that her siblings never directly crossed her line, even when she was old enough to start working. If only it stayed that way forever. “RenRan... Forgive your brother, okay? You know he only took it because he needed it and only you can help him. If you have someone you need to blame, blame your father.” A gentle motherly voice coaxed her. “If your father helped, none of us would be
“Wh- What am I doing here?” BaoBao looked around in shock. He recognised this place. The last time he was here, it was to defend Luna. “Why am I back here?”The elder one sighed. “Why did you do it?”“D- Do what?”Gasps were heard around him.“It lies.”“It truly deceives.”“Surely, that’s bad.”“This can’t go on.”“It’s always this one system.”“Clearly there’s something wrong with it.”All the administration looked at the elder one, waiting for the go ahead. The elder one looked at BaoBao so intensely as if BaoBao was a specimen under his microscope. BaoBao gulped. He felt exposed. What was with this elder one? Whatever the case, Luna had already been sent to the next world. He could not dilly dall
“Don’t ignore me! I know you’re awake!” Someone pushed Luna’s shoulder hard. Her eyes flew open, and a purple and black galaxy unfolded before her. Her bottom left whatever she had been sitting on, but she did not fall. There was a resistance that made her body glide instead. Luna blinked a few times, stunned. "I dare you to say it again.” The same voice challenged her. Luna turned towards the source. There it was again. The sensation when she moved was familiar. However, she had no time to make sense of it. The deep voice belonged to a burly woman, instead of a man like Luna had assumed, not that it made anything better. Her guest looked as friendly as a starving lioness. Luna straightened her neat celestial-like robes while she quickly collected her thoughts. It shimmered and shone brighter than the glow emanating from her body. The fabric was so silky to touch that it was like water. Although it was transluc
“LUNA!” BaoBao jumped onto her. Luna grunted from the impact. It reminded her of how much he had grown from the first time she met him. ‘How is he so weightless but so heavy at the same time?’ “Hi BaoBao,” she laughed lightly, “Is this your new way of sending me to the next world?” “Huh?! No, no! It’s far too soon to be sending you to the next world, isn’t it?!” Luna laughed even more. “I was just teasing.” BaoBao blinked innocently. “Oh.” Luna looked at him endearingly. “You’re still so much like a kid.” She rubbed the top of his head lovingly. “Don’t systems live for eternity, if nothing goes wrong?” “Mmhm, what about it?” “It still felt that long to you?” “YES!” BaoBao confirmed without a second thought. Luna laughed. “Let’s spend some time together before heading to the next world.” BaoBao’s heart warmed and h
Nozomi closed her eyes and thought hard about his request. It did not feel right or good to take his years, but she had no right to dictate how he should live his life.‘Since he’s really fine with it...’Nozomi pushed her hands forward to cup his cheeks. “Okay...”Hikaru’s eyes brightened up. He promptly retrieved his book and readied himself. Nozomi watched Hikaru activate his magic with interest. The way his book’s ribbon splits and transforms into a robe and staff never got old. “Thank you, for going along with my wishes.” His heartfelt gratitude was reflected in his eyes as well. Nozomi smiled in understanding and squeezed his hands that were once again holding onto hers. Hikaru closed his eyes and focused on her presence, then said the incantation that he had memorised by then.Green glowing vine marks appeared
