Ashley cussed under her breath. She had forgotten about him and didn't think he would take her promise seriously when she said they'd talk after her return.

“Paul.” She called in greeting. “You shouldn't have waited up for me.”

“You stayed out late.” Paul stated with authority. His tone was stern and angry. “I was waiting for you.”

Ashley raised her eyes and met his. He was beginning to get under her nerves with his constant whines for her attention. Who was he to determine when she went and when she returned?

“I didn't ask you to.” She responded offhandedly as she cracked her neck to ease the dull ache she felt. She was exhausted and the last thing she wanted to do was to deal with Paul.

‘You said we'd talk.”

“I’m tired, Paul.” Ashley said over her shoulders, already making her way to her room.

Paul's eyes glowed with rage. Her indifference to him was affecting him in many ways than he could admit and awakening in him something he had fought to bury.

The room zoomed in dangerously and everything blurred from Lillian's standing spot at the entrance to her room. Her room, her matrimonial room. Laid atop her matrimonial bed was her husband vigorously and pleasurably thrusting deeper and deeper into the honeycomb of her sister. Their moans, the only deafening sound that filtered through the hazy cloud in her mind. She refused to believe her vision. The two most important people in her life could never think to do this to her. The only people that cared about her would never do this. Her heart said differently. Her eyes saw reality. Reality she vehemently refused to believe. She moved closer to the bed. She wanted a closer look at them. She wanted to confirm their faces, even though she already knew. She wanted it to be a mistake.Just as she reached the foot of the bed, she saw her husband shake violently, emptying his release into the depths of her sister. Their sigh of deep satisfaction caused her eyes to water. As Bruce finished o

"Toss it over! Come on, hurry!" There was urgency in Rachel's voice."Don't you think we should check if she's still alive.""No one can survive such a beating. Didn't you see how they almost splattered her brain out? The guys did a good job. Her head and face is destroyed. Toss this trash into the river before someone sees us." Rachel urged. She darted her eyes back and forth the darkness of the overhead bridge on which they stood.Bruce grunted as he lifted the bag enclosing Lillian's body. "I don't know why you didn't pay them to dispose of the body too." He whined."You want it to be traced back to us? Is that what you want?... Just hurry up and let's get out of here!"Lillian heard the voices in a haze. Her body felt numb and alienated. The physical pain she felt was like nothing in the world. Her breathing was so slow, she thought she would die the next minute. She held her breath when she was lifted. The pain heightened with the contact. She felt herself rise. Her pain increas

Dr Tony was taking off the bandages wrapped around Lillian's face. He worked with dexterity as he pulled on the bandage. It's been five weeks of waiting since after the surgery."You will feel numb around your face when the bandages come off, but it shouldn't alarm you. It's normal and the feeling will wear off in a moment." Tony explained as he unwrapped the bandage. Sam Knox stood by the corner of the room, his heart racing and his eyes shone with fear. He was eager to see the result of the surgery and yet, uncertain how Lillian would react to her new face.Lillian had only been able to communicate by nodding whenever she was spoken to. The bandages had prevented her from speaking. So they had not been able to have a real conversation with her.Tony had said that the chances of Lillian remembering anything about her past was very slim. But Knox couldn't shake off the fear that she would remember her past life. It would be a disaster if that happened.Tony finally removed the last o

"Yes." Knox nodded at her. "Yes. You are Ashley Knox." He reiterated with tear filled eyes. "You are my Ashley.""You are my daughter." He announced with tearful glee. She watched him move near her. Uncertainty flooded her gaze. She looked up at Dr Tony whom she inexplicably had a measure of trust in. Tony sensed her insecurities and he understood them. He had seen it a thousand times, patients waking up to memories of their life snatched away from. Knowing nothing. Remembering nothing. The feeling was depressing. He nodded silently at her, consenting to the information she had just received. She turned her gaze away from Tony to regard Knox who had stopped in his tracks. Her countenance had not been welcoming causing him to pause."You are my father?" She inquired. Her innocence burst open the flood gates of Knox tears. He shook violently, collapsing on the bed on which she sat. She suddenly felt guilty. He was her father and she didn't know him. She imagined how that must hurt. S

"Don't worry, you'll meet him soon." DJ assured. He couldn't remind her that he hadn't spoken to or seen his brother in a very long time. He didn't have a good relationship with his family. He thought he would tell her, but later.Ashley peeled her eyes on him, watching him intently. She wanted to read his reaction to the question she was going to ask next."Was I good girlfriend to you?"DJ grinned. Contentment brightened his gaze. "You are the very absolute best girlfriend ever! In all my dating years, I've never met someone like you." There was pride in his voice. Pride and love. So much love."I'm the happiest to have you back." Ashley laid on her bed in the dimly lit room, eyes wide open and fixated on the white ceiling. Sleep had traveled far from her.The events of the day replayed in her head. The new faces she had met and didn't know; her stepmom, her step brother and her fiance. How could she not remember her fiance? She must have loved him enough to want to be married to him, but now she didn't know him. He was a stranger to her. She recalled the hurt in his eyes. As much as he tried to mask it, she sensed it. How could she forget those eyes that looked at her with so much love? She scoffed. She didn't even remember her father. The man who had birthed and raised her. The man who seemed to love her more than anything else. Everything was a mumbo jumbo.Nothing made sense to her. She felt like a child seeing the world for the first time. She wished to return to the hospital. At least there, no one expected anything from her. No one seemed pained that she couldn't remember them.Even her cabin at the ho

“What was all that about?” Rachel shot at Bruce once they had left his parents and had begun driving home. “What?” Bruce asked genuinely. He had not noticed how upset Rachel was.“Don't give me that! You damn well know what I'm talking about!” Bruce sighed. “If I did I wouldn't be asking… Baby can you just tell me what it is.” His endearment was aimed at diffusing her fury. He was in a good mood and did not intend to spoil it by having banter with Rachel.“Maybe you could thank me by treating me to coffee sometime and then we can begin talks about business.” she mimicked him, her tone sarcastic and her expression adorned with disgust.Bruce rolled his eyes as he tried to work his way through her statement. He didn't think that was the cause of her rotten mood.“What is it about that? I was expressing my intention to do business with her. You know how much we have been trying to get a partnership with her father but his reluctance has always made it impossible.” He defended.“Oh and

Dinner started off quietly, with only the clattering of cutleries filling the air. The meal of garlic mashed potatoes with roasted turkey was delicious and Ashley filled herself heartily.“The food was delicious.” She commended Mrs Leon as they feast on the fruit custard served for dessert.Mrs Leon smiled with appreciation. If there was one thing she loved, it was getting praises for her cooking.“My wife sure has great culinary skills. I can give you that.” Mr Leon remarked with pride adorning his tone. “That's one of the reasons why I love her. Good food everyday.” Mr Leon whispered in addition.“Oh please.” Mrs Leon crimsoned with embarrassment. “Stop being silly.” She jokingly chided her husband.Everyone at the table laughed. For once, the ambience was warm and relaxed until Bruce spoke. The sound of his voice always irked Ashley. “So Ashley, do you cook?” Ashley rolled her eyes inwardly. Small talks! All so he could talk to her. She wondered how Lilian never saw this side of

Bruce had his curious eyes on Ashley. For some unknown reason, he was expecting her to answer his question.“I was just telling your wife how lovely she looked in her dress.” Ashley lied smoothly. She made the comment knowing Rachel was not as dressed as she was. It was a subtle jab thrown at her enemy.Rachel understood Ashley was belittling her outfit. But that was of little concern to her. What Ashley had said about Lilian. The questions she had asked. Rachel couldn't wrap her head around it. Who was this lady?Rachel glanced at her. Her fear for this strange fiancee of her brother-in-law doubled. She swallowed again, attempting to look as relaxed as Ashley. Bruce turned to his wife briefly before focusing his gaze back on Ashley. “Yes, she does look beautiful. And I can say quite the same of you. I was going to mention earlier, you look stunning Ashley.” Bruce complimented. His gaze lingered on her exposed flesh as her dress had shifted up her legs when she crossed them over.If

“What?” Rachel squeaked. Confusion adorned her features. She didn't understand what Ashley was talking about. The simple words were ambiguous, possessing multiple facets and meaning. Was Ashley seeing someone else? Rachel wondered. It was obvious she must have been referring to someone else, but who?“Never mind it.” Ashley told her dismissively. “It’s just a weird expression.” “Oh! Okay.” Rachel commented, laughing eerily. “It's very weird.”“What about you?” Ashley smoothly fed their conversation.“Me?” Rachel asked puzzled.Ashley smiled. “I mean you and Bruce. How's marriage life? How long have you two been married?” Her tone feigned interest.“Oh!” Rachel rolled her eyes, feeling somewhat inadequate for not getting what Ashley meant.“Well, marriage has been wonderful! We've been married for over a year now and it has been the best time of my life. I couldn't have asked for a better partner.” She beamed proudly.Ashley paid no attention to her yapping. “I'm sorry. Paul was just saying something to me.” Ashley apologized as she got into the car. “Right. I was beginning to get worried.” DJ said, holding the door to the car for her.She smiled apologetically to him. He shut the door, rounded up to the driver side and got in.Forty-five minutes later, they were parked in front of DJ’s parent's house. Unlike the last time, the building was very familiar this time. She recalled the first time ever she had been here. Then, it was as Bruce's fiancee. That was four years ago. Now, she was here again. Still as a fiancee but for a different brother. She wondered if she would receive the same welcome.“Baby?” DJ called.Ashley jolted. His call had pulled her out her thoughts. She hadn't realized he was holding the door open for her to step down.“Are you okay?” He asked, concern lacing his voice.“Yeah. Um, sure.” She laughed nervously. “Just a little nervous.” She admitted.“You know you just have to say the word and we're out of here. I cou

The day went by quickly. Ashley spent most of it in her room planning her grand comeback. Her new identity was her greatest strength.
