(The Witch Sisters)
Hermione noticed a new car she had not seen in the garage parked outside, right in front of the magnificent house.
She pointed this out to Ruke.
“Must be the witches“ he replied, and when Hermione raised her eyebrows he added, “old family friends, their mother was a Japanese witch and their father a Lycan."
“They got the witch gene?” Hermione asked, seemingly interested.
“They have heightened hearing and are stronger than the average human.
But they’re incapable of turning because their witch side is more dominant, their dad had a fit and almost killed the girls.
Luckily, our parents rescued them and their mother. She died a few years ago.
“It must be hard for them to lose their only family", Hermione added, looking sad.
“Oh don’t worry, they are badass witches,” Ruke added, smiling.
"They can take care of themselves alright".
“Yeah, I guess so” she added as they got out of the car.
They walked in and were greeted by an ear-shattering scream.
Two beautiful women were running towards ruke with smiles on their faces.
One was a little taller than the other and had grey eyes and a matching grey streak in her dark black hair which ran down to her waist in soft waves.
The smaller one had blue eyes and an oval face.
She had an innocent look and looked like a china doll.
They had distinctive features but still managed to look identical. One would know they were sisters.
Ruke was hugged by the two smiling sisters, who released him and turned to Hermione.
“I’m Violet and this is my sister Lang Lang,” the taller one said to Hermione with her hand outstretched.
Hermione took the waiting hand in hers.” I’m Hermione,“ she replied.
“You must be a witch then?” she added, a broad grin spreading to her face.
“If I hadn’t been told I must admit that I would have taken you for schoolgirls, you don’t look like witches one bit.
I was expecting weird hairstyles and a steely attitude," she finished, looking amused.
“Well, we like to surprise“ replied Lang Lang in a surprisingly confident tone.
“I’ve been forgotten already,“ Ruke added, looking hurt.
“Oh come on Ruke, you’re more than good-looking, but this here lady is different.
Her beauty reminds me of power, ethereal and immortal," Lang Lang added, looking closely at Hermione, then something clicked in her head and she gasped.
Her eyes wide open, she turned to Ruke "She’s not a cat-shifter is she?"
“Yes." Ruke answered, dreading her reply.
Lang lang was not the only one acting strangely now.
When Ruke had affirmed what Hermione was, Violet let out a little scream, took both Ruke and Hermione’s hands, and dragged them to the study.
She pushed them to a seat and conjured a book out of thin air.
She looked at Hermione and said, sadly, “I’m sorry Ruke.
But.. Your mate was born for a purpose."
Standing up, she walked around the room looking agitated. "I told you you’d find your mate."
I didn’t know this was what to expect.
"Two hundred years ago, a lycan of royal descent and a cat shifter were mated.
The Lycans were not happy as they wanted the royal line to remain fresh.
The cat shifter named Diana had a witch father.
It was said that he sought power over many supernatural beings and was most delighted with the mate bond between his daughter and the Lycan, but unfortunately, war broke out between the two species, and Diana was killed.
Her father was so vengeful that he swore revenge on all the Lycans and he promised to bring his daughter who, like him, was blinded by power, back to life, more dreadful and powerful.
The poor Lycan, maddened by grief over the loss of his mate, committed suicide and joined her in death” Violet let out a breath and Lang Lang took up the narration.
“You must have heard the story, Ruke” and Ruke nodded.
“It was just a tale,” he said, looking upset.
“No, it isn’t," Violet added, a sad smile on her face.
"I hate to break it to you, but Violet leaves the much nastier stuff for me.
The books which recorded this event gave a vivid description of how this Diana looked,” and turning to Hermione she said, "exactly like her, the only difference being the eyes".
According to the books, Diana’s eyes were dark.
“So what you’re telling me, is that I’m a reincarnation of someone long dead?” Hermione asked, looking offended.
“Not exactly a reincarnation. I’d say you are going to be used as a host or something, cos you’re different from her, your heart is kinder”, Lang Lang replied, looking thoughtful.
"Or do you have dreams of a past life or something?"
“None that I can think of,” Hermione said.
Withholding the dream she had in her kitchen and not knowing why.
“We have to let the council know about this,” Ruke said, looking at Hermione.
He didn’t know how she was taking the news.
He was exasperated, angry, and resentful towards the moon goddess.
All she did was complicate things. It wasn’t enough.
She was a cat shifter. She had to equally be a host for some unhinged spirit and a vengeful madman.
“Excuse me please," Hermione got up slowly from her seat and headed for the stairs.
In she was in Ruke’s room. She needed space to process the ghastly revelation, she was so tired.
First, her mother had left and now she was going to lose her mate because of some stupid reincarnation bullshit.
At that moment she knew that there was going to be another war, it was coming and she wasn’t going to waste the time she had with her mate brooding.
She stood up and made for the door.
Her hands were inches from the doorknob when it was opened from the outside and Ruke walked in, his hair wet. “I used Raphael’s bathroom, figured you needed space.
He carried the traveling bag holding her clothes to his closet and turned towards her.
“I know this is a lot to take in, but I want you to know that I won’t let anything happen to you."Ruke had a fierce look on his beautiful face that betrayed his emotions.
Hermione wanted to run to him, she wanted to run her hands through his hair, but instead she smiled at him and walked to the window.
“I’ve always wanted a family, you know," Hermione said quietly.
“My family is not something you call stable. My mum left when I was seven, daddy...” And she suddenly broke down, tears splashing down her front.
"Daddy died two years back, he was the only family I had left," she quivered as tears continued to flow.
Ruke was caught off guard, he felt really confused, and throwing caution to the wind, he pulled her to him and patted her gently on the back.
Hermione’s sobs intensified and she sniffed at his shirt, crying her heart out.
She looked up after several long seconds passed.
Ruke looked down into her upturned face. “It’s alright,“ he said reassuringly.
“You have me now".
“Really?” Hermione said through her hiccups.
Ruke nodded affirmatively, he didn’t know why his heart was suddenly doing a backflip and he was aware of the tingles running up his arm where he held her.
Hermione still hadn’t looked away and Ruke suddenly became hot. He matched her gaze and thought he could hear the cogs in her brain working. Her heart hammered against his, he felt her soft flesh against his rock-hard chest. It was as though time had stopped for both of them, and then, with a soft groan, Ruke’s lips came crashing down on hers with so much passion she felt her knees melt.Hermione gasped for breath, grabbed a fistful of his hair and deepened the kiss. Ruke gave a guttural groan and ran his hands down hermione’s back. The sound that left hermione’s lips had Ruke almost running mad with passion. Hermione’s hands left his hair and travelled down to his chest. She moaned as her hands met strong muscles. Ruke had had enough, his beast was at the edge of hurtling into delirium. He had started the kiss but was slowly losing control when Hermione suddenly stood on tiptoes, placed both hands behind his neck and took the kiss to another level. With a groan of satisfaction,
Hermione looked happier than Ruke had seen her. She had woken up the morning after the council meeting beaming in a sort of bemused, looking around the room as though it were her first time in it. She had walked Ruke to the kitchen, telling him the importance of breakfast on the way. Hermione was surprised to see that Lang lang was already there, cooking breakfast. If there was anything she needed from across the room, she would wave her hands towards it and it would zoom across the room into her hands. “Good morning Lang lang” Hermione sang, looking awestruck at her raw power. Lang lang nodded at her reply, threw Ruke a knowing look, and continued her onslaught on the eggs before her. “I’ll go get the guys,“ Ruke offered and left. “Is there anything I can do to help?” Hermione asked, looking round the kitchen. “Nope,” Lang Lang replied promptly “I’m almost done anyway." She walked to the fridge and reached out a hand to open the door, then she paused, and turned towards
Hermione swore revenge under her breath and started swimming furiously round the pool. Ruke chuckled quietly and was amused beyond words by Hermione’s reaction.“Why don’t we have a competition“, Ruke suggested.Hermione paused in her action and stared at Ruke “Really? So what’s in it for me” she asked malevolently, a fake smile on her face.“If I win, you get to do whatever I ask “he paused, “and if you win, the same goes for you“ Ruke finished, looking at Hermione with an engaging look.“Then it’s on” Hermione replied. They both made their way to one end of the pool."How do we know when to start?” she asked.“At the count of three then,” Ruke replied, “two laps, we swim to the other end and back.”Hermione nodded, looking determined.“Let’s count then” said Ruke.“1..2...”and at “3” They both dived into the water, Hermione pushed off powerfully and swam forwards with powerful strokes. She got to the other end of the pool first and gracefully turned, pushing off from the wall of th
Twigs snapped under his feet as he ran past trees in the forest, as he called it. He had a lot on his mind and he needed his usual morning exercise to clear his head. Last night had been wasted trying to get his brother away from trouble with humans. He was so deep in thought that he ran past the safety sign on the cliff and flew legs first onto the river below. “Ahh!” he screamed as the cold water touched his skin. “Damn it!” he spat out water and started swimming toward the bank with strong strokes that would have left any human nearby terror-stricken due to the inhuman strength with which he swam to dry land. I'm lucky to be a lycan, he thought; no human would have survived such freezing water. He was now standing on the shore flexing his muscles to get warmth into them when he picked up his brother's scent. Raphael! he called "over here! the words were barely out of his mouth before his youngest brother sauntered into the open shore closely sheltered by trees on either side
Ruke had long left the restaurant and was making his way home, he drove calmly through the traffic halfway to his home, he decided to wind down his glass just to enjoy the evening breeze. He caught a very peculiar scent and his muscles became taut and tensed, it was the most pleasant scent he had ever perceived and it was coming from the car in front of his, he adjusted his sitting position and started following the car. “The driver must have noticed that they were being followed because the car changed route and took the forest path instead of driving towards my home", I thought Ruke even better. He was a little surprised when the driver made for the forest and, in their eagerness to outdrive him, he drove into a tree. Shit! shit! He rushed towards the car, shifted it from the tree and opened the driver's door. He was met with a powerful kick to the stomach. He was pushed backward with so much force that he slammed into a tree. The driver stepped out of the car looking furious.
In two seconds, Ruke was standing between her and the door. “You are not going anywhere”, Ruke pleaded. I go where I please" she said, dabbing a finger at his chest with every single word. “Mates stay together forever," Ruke said. Raphael and Jake simply folded their hands and watched the drama. “Isn't she hot?” Raphael's mind linked to Jake. They were all taken by her intense beauty and the fire in her eyes did nothing to diminish her attractiveness. Hermione looked at the three lycans. Shecouldn't run, else they'd catch her without breaking a sweat. She'd just had to bid her time. “Okay Lycan," she piqued, " Let's see if we don't get tired of each other. Ruke was a little annoyed that she kept calling him Lycan, but he decided to hold his fire. "Let me take you upstairs so you could get changed”. Hermione followed him, leaving the other two behind. She did not know what to make of them yet. “That will be for another day.” She was so caught up in the thought that s
Hermione awoke to the singing of birds from the trees nearby. She had slept peacefully through the night. She turned and met Ruke’s gaze. "Good morning," she said, stifling a yawn. "You kept to your side of the bed, I suppose?” "Yeah" replied Ruke, getting up. "My car’s still out there, and I need to get my phone “, looking down, she added, “I can’t wear your shirt forever". She slid down from the bed and Ruke couldn’t help thinking how graceful she was with her movement. "I’ll walk you there " he replied. "Best to get going then, “said Hermione. They both left the room and went down the stairs. They were almost out when Hermione paused in her steps. "Where are your parents, “she asked, facing him. "Oh...” he said, caught off guard by the question “they left some years ago”, he smiled, “two lovebirds touring the world". Hermione’s countenance was softened by his answer; "he loved his parents”, she thought". "They must be happy then,” she said. "They most certainly are"
