Chapter 7

Author: Warm Cocoa
Although Claude was always gentle and warm in front of Stellar, he was, after all, the current CEO of Riverside Corporation. His commanding presence was unmatched, and now, tinged with anger, it was downright intimidating.

The sheer force of his aura made Percy’s heart skip a beat, but he stubbornly refused to back down as he stared at Stellar.

“Sir, there’s clearly been a misunderstanding. Miss Rivers belongs to me.”

He even considered saying that Stellar was no more than a pet he raised, convinced that no matter who this man was, no one would treasure something discarded as worthless.

But before the words could leave his mouth, the man in front of him let out a cold laugh.

“You? You’re not even worthy.”

The single, cutting sentence shattered what little composure Percy had left. His face turned an ugly shade of red and purple.

Stellar, who hadn’t eaten and already had a few drinks, felt her stomach twist even more at the thought of Percy and the cloying scent of perfume that lingered on him. She had no interest in continuing this pointless argument or explaining who the man beside her truly was.

Her already captivating eyes shimmered from the alcohol, and the faint flush on her cheeks only made her more stunning. Yet, the icy indifference in her gaze was impossible to miss as she stared directly at Percy.

With a mocking laugh, she said, “Mr. Moore, I believe we’ve said everything there is to say. We’ve parted ways, so let’s leave it at that and move on with our lives.”

Without waiting for his response, she grabbed Claude’s arm and walked away.

Percy stood frozen, momentarily stunned.

By the time he snapped out of it, all he could see was Stellar being carefully ushered into the sleek luxury car waiting at the hotel entrance. Claude shielded her as if she were a treasure too precious to touch.

In that instant, it felt like a knife had carved a hole in Percy’s chest. His mind swirled with images of Stellar’s breathtaking face and her cold, decisive demeanor.

For the first time, it truly hit him—was she really going to leave him for good?

As he stood there, grappling with the realization, Yvonne, who had been watching the scene unfold from a distance, finally approached.

With no one else around, she didn’t bother pretending.

“Percy,” she said with feigned concern. “Is Stellar seeing someone else behind your back?”

Percy turned his head and shot her a cold, sharp glare.

In truth, Percy had met with Yvonne in private before. He hadn’t denied the talk of an engagement, but he had never explicitly agreed to marry her, either.

A flicker of displeasure flashed through Yvonne’s eyes as she deliberately stoked the flames.

"She’s been living off you, taking your resources, only to turn around and betray you. Percy, you can’t afford to be soft on her. Do you really think Stellar could have closed that deal without Moore Enterprises’ proposal?"

Her words hit their mark, and Percy’s expression darkened instantly.

She was right. The collaboration with Brighton Group was something he had been preparing for a long time. While he hadn’t entrusted it to Stellar, she must have caught wind of it.

With all her years of experience at the company, she certainly had the means to access every document and proposal Moore Enterprises had on file. Without those resources, there was no way she could have landed the deal on her own!

“Stellar, you stole Moore Enterprises’ confidential information!” Percy thought.

It felt like a dam broke inside him, and Percy finally had something to channel his anger into. His teeth clenched as fury surged through him.

“Just wait until the compliance team and legal department come after you. Let’s see who can protect you then. If you won’t behave, don’t blame me for being ruthless,” Percy thought.

Seeing her scheme work, Yvonne was overjoyed.

“Percy, after the trouble she’s caused, you can’t keep letting your feelings for her hold you back.”

She reached out to take his arm, her luxurious perfume wafting heavily around her. But as the scent filled his senses, Percy was suddenly reminded of Stellar’s light, elegant fragrance—subtle and comforting.

Feeling irritated, he pulled his arm away from Yvonne’s grasp.

“I have other matters to attend to,” he said coldly, turning to leave.

From start to finish, he didn’t spare Yvonne a single glance.

In the back seat of the Cayenne, Stellar sat with a slightly downcast expression.

“Still can’t forget him?” Claude sighed and handed her a cup of warm water.

“No, it’s not that. I just feel unsettled,” Stellar replied as she took the cup, forcing a faint smile.

Claude felt a pang of heartache and reached out to gently ruffle her hair.

“Our Stellar isn’t made of stone. Feeling upset is perfectly normal. Since you helped me so much today. Tell me, what do you want? Just say the word.”

Stellar quickly shook her head, recalling the endless clothes and jewelry in the villa.

“I don’t need anything. This collaboration between Riverside Corporation and Brighton Group has opened up a new market for Riverside. To meet the technical demands, we might need another round of investment from you, but I promise it will yield returns quickly.”

Claude smiled indulgently and tapped her nose affectionately.

“Have I ever told you that your three uncles and I are all adopted?”

“Why bring that up?” Stellar frowned slightly, visibly uncomfortable.

Blood ties were important, but she didn’t believe family should be measured by such things. If only the Harlow family hadn’t been so ruthless…

“My point is, everything in the Rivers family is yours. You are the sole, rightful heir.”

Claude’s calm, steady voice interrupted Stellar’s wandering thoughts.

“What do you mean by that? Are you leaving?” she asked in surprise, instinctively grabbing his wrist tightly, her grip full of tension.

She couldn’t help but think back to being abandoned when Yvonne returned. Would the Rivers family cast her aside too?

Her wrist, still swollen and red despite the ointment, caught Claude’s eye. His heart ached painfully at the sight.

His voice softened even more.

“Of course, we won’t leave. The four of us, along with your grandparents, will always be by your side until the end of our lives.

“What I meant is that everything in the Rivers family has always been yours. So, no matter how much we invest, it’s up to you. You don’t need to promise anything.”

The unexpected warmth and reassurance made Stellar’s nose sting with emotion. Wrapped in such profound love, it felt as if nothing in the world could truly scare her.

When they returned to the estate, even though Stellar repeatedly insisted she didn’t need anything, Claude had already arranged for a team of designers, lawyers, and other professionals to surround her. Measurements were taken, documents signed—it was a whirlwind of activity before they finally let her go.

“Uncle, isn’t this enough by now?” Stellar slumped onto the sofa, feeling more exhausted than she would after attending a formal banquet.

“This is just the beginning. You’ll need to get used to it,” Claude replied, handing her a plate of freshly cut fruit. “Oh, by the way, the Wards have already learned that you’ve returned to the family. About the engagement between our families—”

“What engagement?” Stellar choked, sitting up straight.

Claude quickly clarified, “The Wards and the Rivers have been family friends for generations. This engagement was arranged before you were born. But after you went missing, no one brought it up again. Now that you’ve been found…”

Before he could finish, Stellar interrupted him.

“I don’t want to get married.”

Fresh out of a failed relationship, she had no desire to get involved in something as complicated and draining as marriage.

Besides, was Claude sure the Wards even knew her current situation? She was far from a socialite or heiress. Her tarnished reputation and lack of upbringing in the Rivers family weren’t exactly selling points.

Claude chuckled but didn’t press the matter.

“Alright, if our Stellar doesn’t want to get married, then she won’t.”

Though the engagement would have been a great match, the Rivers family had never needed alliances through marriage. For them, Stellar’s happiness was the only thing that mattered.

At the same time, in the top-floor office of Brighton Group, a man stood before the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the bustling city traffic below. The sunlight poured over his sharp, chiseled features, casting a warm golden hue that softened his otherwise cold demeanor. He stood like a figure carved from marble—aloof, otherworldly, and indifferent as if surveying the world from above. Behind him, a table held the proposal and contract sent over by Riverside Corporation. Shane, unable to contain his excitement, was effusively praising their latest acquisition to Stephen Ward. “Stephen, that Miss Rivers is truly something else—stunning and incredibly capable. The technical support she’s provided is nothing short of brilliant. I’ve got a strong feeling this partnership will last. It looks like the Rivers family has struck gold with her. With her leading Riverside, that new company of theirs has limitless potential.” Shane wasn’t just an employee or subordinate; he

Stealing confidential information was a cardinal sin in their industry. If the accusation stuck, Stellar would face legal consequences, potentially even prison time. Brighton Group would also risk being implicated. At the banquet that night, Shane hadn’t believed Percy’s claims. But now, with Percy barging into Brighton Group with apparent preparation, Shane couldn’t dismiss the possibility entirely. Turning his attention to the proposal, Shane flipped through the pages. A sharp glint flashed in his eyes before he looked at Stellar. “What does Miss Rivers want to do?” Before Stellar could respond, Percy cut in, his voice laced with smugness and indifference, as though he was savoring the moment she would plead for forgiveness. “Do you even have a choice? I’ve given you countless chances, but you insisted over and over that you weren’t representing Moore Enterprises. Stellar’s eyes flickered subtly. She had expected this outcome. But with business opportunities knocking on her door, there was no reason to turn them away. She offered a graceful smile.“No problem, but I have some matters to handle right now. Let’s discuss this later.”Nicholas didn’t press further, nodding with satisfaction before cheerfully walking away. As he left, he threw a parting remark at Percy.“Mr. Moore, since the contract has expired, we’ll have to see if there’s another chance to collaborate in the future.”The implication was clear: there would be no renewal.Percy was so furious he could barely contain himself. He hadn’t anticipated that Stellar truly had the capability to pull this off—humiliating him at Brighton Group and even stealing away one of Moore Enterprises’ key partners.Staying any longer would only worsen the embarrassment, so he reluctantly signaled to his team.“We’re leaving.”But before he could take another step, Shane chuckled lightly.“Mr. Moore, do

And you had the nerve to tell her to leave? Tomorrow, you’re taking a gift to apologize and make things right. “The business scene in Riverdale is volatile right now, and there are competitors trying to seize market share. The Moore family needs the Harlow family’s support. Do you understand me?”Percy didn’t particularly care about the idea of a business alliance through marriage, but with the collaboration with Brighton Group now out of reach, cutting ties with the Harlow family wasn’t an option either.“Fine,” he muttered after a long silence, hanging up the phone and sinking back into the sofa, his expression blank as he sat there in silence.Xavier cast him a glance, the corner of his mouth curling into a cold smirk.“I’ve got other matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave. Yvonne stood there, dressed like a peacock in full display, her outfit dripping with gold and jewels, flaunting her wealth and superiority. Her voice carried an air of unrestrained arrogance.“Well, well, if it isn’t Stellar Rivers, the illustrious representative of Riverside Corporation who just signed a deal with Brighton Group. What’s this? Picking up trash outside a school now?”She smirked, lifting her foot to step on one of Stellar’s scattered books.Ha! So, what if Percy didn’t like her? He was still going to obediently get engaged to her.Every time Yvonne complained to her parents about her frustrations, they coddled her endlessly. Not only did they pressure her uncle to invest an extra two million dollars into her latest film, but they also arranged a dinner meeting with the Moore family tonight at an upscale restaurant to finalize the engagement date.Stellar’s gaze turned cold as she looked up at Yvonne.“Move.”“And if I don’t? What can you do about it?” Yvonne sneered, to

Stellar didn’t want to talk about it, and Claude didn’t press her further, though anger surged within him. “It seems someone needs to be taught a lesson,” Claude thought. The drive was quiet, with neither of them saying much. When they finally arrived at the restaurant, Claude broke the silence. “Alright, enough with the gloomy face. Eat first. You’ll need a full stomach to think things through.” Stellar could tell Claude had noticed her troubled mood but chose to give her space. His subtle way of showing respect made her feel comforted. After parking the car, Claude led her inside to the private room he had reserved in advance. The restaurant’s decor was luxurious, with an elegant ambiance. From the main hall, the soft notes of a piano melody flowed in, soothing and uplifting, as though washing away her worries. Stellar gradually felt her emotions settle. Soon, dish after dish began arriving at their table. Although each portion was small, the sheer number of dishes was

When Claude returned with a dark expression, Stellar immediately set her utensils down. “Uncle Claude, you don’t look too happy. Did something happen during that call?” Seeing her concerned face and recalling Yvonne’s venomous behavior, Claude felt a sharp pang of heartache. Not wanting to ruin Stellar’s mood, he brushed it off casually. “It’s nothing, just ran into a barking dog.” Stellar paused, then offered her own calm reassurance. “Well, if it’s just an animal, there’s no need for us to stoop to their level.” Claude burst into hearty laughter, his mood instantly lifted. Picking up his utensils, he placed more food on Stellar’s plate. “Here, eat more, Stellar. You’re far too thin. You need to take better care of yourself. As long as I’m here, I’ll make sure you’re well-fed and never mistreated.” A warm feeling blossomed in Stellar’s chest. It felt wonderful to be cared for like this.…After the meal, Claude went to fetch the car, leaving Stellar waiting outside.

Stellar paused for a moment, guessing that Claude likely saw what had transpired earlier. Yet, out of respect for her, he chose not to intervene or ask questions. Her heart warmed at the thought, and a genuine smile spread across her face. “I will. Thank you, Uncle Claude. Drive safe.” She waved him off as he left before heading back into the villa. …Later that evening. After a relaxing hot shower, Stellar stepped out of her room, only to receive an unexpected phone call—from none other than Percy’s mother, Margaret Farrell. “Stellar! It’s so good to hear your voice!” Margaret’s tone was syrupy sweet, just as it always had been. “About what happened at the restaurant today, I wasn’t ignoring you on purpose. You know how much I’ve always cared for you, don’t you?” Her words sounded warm and familiar, but Stellar had long since seen through the façade. She didn’t respond, keeping silent on the line. Margaret, sensing the lack of engagement, grew impatient. “Are you hol

Percy asked, frowning slightly, sensing that the remark was not without intent.Zachary didn’t bother mincing words, his expression laced with disdain."I’ve heard, Mr. Moore, that for years, your company’s success has relied heavily on Miss Stellar Rivers’ talent and expertise to secure contracts. Shane’s admiration for Stellar deepened as he looked at her. “Miss Rivers, you’ve truly exceeded my expectations.” Not only was she beautiful, but she also possessed intelligence, talent, and an unshakable composure when dealing with seasoned veterans. It had been a long time since he’d encountered someone as intriguing as her. “Since you gave me this opportunity, Mr. Howe, I couldn’t let you down.” “There’s actually another client we need to visit,” Shane said, his tone thoughtful. “If we can secure a partnership with their company, this project could reach a whole new level. But that client is a tough one. I was ready to give up, but now, with you on board, I think it might just be possible.” Shane’s gaze lingered on her, his eyes filled with admiration. He was genuinely intrigued by her but confessing that outright might scare her off. Unaware of his thoughts, Stellar simply felt a bit embarrassed at his praise. “Mr. Howe, who is it? I can give it a try.”After all, th

Unbeknownst to her, across the street from her villa, Stephen had just returned home, enjoying his usual solitary routine. After spending some time in his study, he took a shower and waited for dinner to be delivered. During the lull, he stepped out onto his upstairs terrace for some fresh air. That was when he noticed the lights in the kitchen across the way and a petite, busy figure moving inside. Was that… Stellar? Recalling her behavior at school and now seeing her living in a villa, he couldn’t help but frown. What was she doing here? Wasn’t she the one who reportedly threw away her education for a man? And now that they’d supposedly broken up, was this villa his parting gift? Or had they never really ended things? Stephen’s displeasure deepened as he mulled it over. However, watching the two figures through the window, even from dozens of meters away, he could sense the warmth of their atmosphere. The figurine held a little charm bag, its design cheerful and whimsical. But could this possibly belong to Percy? The thought made the answer obvious.Yvonne’s disdain was immediate.“Why would you keep such a cheap-looking figurine in your car?"You should have something like a gold-plated angel figurine or a rare vintage collectible—something that reflects sophistication and status."Percy glanced at the figurine and froze slightly. If he remembered correctly, Stellar had gone out of her way to get it for him from a church. She earnestly told him to keep it in the car to ensure his safety. For a moment, his mind wandered, recalling Stellar’s bright, joyful expression at t

His face darkened as he turned to glare at the sales associate.“Well? What are you waiting for? If you’d like, we can place an order and have them shipped in. You’d just need to make payment now and pick them up later.”“How much are they?” “The gown is handcrafted with embroidered details. Percy snapped out of his daze at Yvonne's words. His mind wandered to how Stellar had been cleaning just hours ago and to the stinging slap she had landed on his face. His brows furrowed slightly, and in an attempt to assert control, he slid an arm around Yvonne’s waist and strode forward.“Stellar, what are you doing in a place like this? Do you really think your cleaner's salary can cover anything here? Or is this someone else's money—a handout from some guy you managed to fool?"Hearing his voice, Stellar turned. Her gaze swept over the pair, lingering briefly on their entwined bodies. A flicker of disgust crossed her eyes, but there wasn’t a hint of care or jealousy.Without a word, she turned and walked toward another section of the boutique, ignoring them entirely. The dismissal darkened Percy’s expression further. After finishing her meal, Stellar intended to leave and didn’t bother acknowledging Percy. She walked straight out of the campus gates. With an upcoming commitment to attend a few project meetings with Shane next week, Stellar knew her wardrobe needed an upgrade.Though her closet was filled with dresses and gowns handpicked by Claude, she found his taste a bit too plain for her liking. For important occasions, it was better to pick out outfits herself. Besides, Claude’s black card came with a minimum spending limit. If she didn’t spend enough, he’d take it upon himself to send over more clothes, so she’d much rather choose things she genuinely liked. Since the area was close to the city center, Stellar decided to stop by for some shopping. She stepped into an understated luxury boutique and soon spotted a gown displayed in a glass case. Unlike the other items in the store, this one stood out—elegant and clearly expensive. Noticing her gaze lingering, a sales associate eagerl

However, remembering that her life after leaving him wasn’t going particularly well, he felt a bit smug.He smirked. “What’s this? Still putting on an act?
