Chapter 2

Author: Warm Cocoa
For some reason, perhaps because Stellar had never spoken to him that way before, Percy couldn’t get the image of her tear-filled eyes as she left out of his head. It irritated him.

He downed several glasses of red wine, the burning sensation in his chest finally dulling the inexplicable frustration swirling inside him.

Just then, Chris came over, holding his phone.

"Percy, wasn’t Stellar on this flight? It’s all over the news."

Percy glanced at the screen, where a breaking news report was displayed:

"…Flight AT580 experienced a major crisis today at noon when the pilot lost consciousness mid-flight. Thanks to the intervention of a mysterious passenger with professional expertise, the plane managed to land safely. The cause of the incident is still under investigation…"

The others in the room crowded around as well.

Seeing the report, they immediately started talking all at once, their voices filled with awe.

"That’s insane! With turbulence that strong and one wing practically gone, they still landed safely? Incredible."

"The reporter mentioned a mysterious passenger. Did they catch her face on camera?"

"They said it was a woman. The footage from the black box is too chaotic, but there are a few clips online. Let me find one."

As the others chatted, Percy’s gaze fell on the contract he had carelessly tossed onto the sofa earlier.

A few dried bloodstains dotted the bottom-right corner of the envelope.

That woman… Was she injured?

"I found it!" Chris exclaimed, snapping Percy out of his thoughts.

Percy turned to look at the screen. The video showed only a side view of someone’s back.

The figure’s slender waist, long legs, and the outfit she wore all struck him as oddly familiar.

"Doesn’t she look a little like Stellar?" someone asked, their tone skeptical.

Chris laughed. "Don’t be ridiculous. Everyone knows Stellar’s just Percy’s kept woman. She’s just a pretty face who happens to be good with numbers. Let’s not kid ourselves. Do you really think she’s capable of something like that?"

That one comment was enough to dispel any lingering doubts.

Even Percy dismissed the possibility.

“Keep looking,” Chris said, clearly intrigued. “See if you can find a clearer image. That figure is unreal. I have to know what she looks like.”

However, Percy had lost interest. His thumb absently brushed over the dried bloodstains on the envelope, and even the wine in his glass tasted bitter now.

He frowned, tugging at his tie.

“You guys have fun. I’ve got things to do,” he said, standing up and leaving.

If Stellar had gotten hurt because of this, she should be satisfied knowing he came back early for her.

By the time he returned to Azure Heights, it was already 10:30 p.m.

But to his surprise, the villa was completely dark. Not a single light was on. When he stepped inside, there was no sign of her waiting for him in the living room. The dining table and kitchen were empty, too—no warm, comforting meals or hangover tea waiting for him.

That had never happened before.

“Her attitude’s getting worse,” he muttered under his breath, carrying the envelope upstairs.

He stopped outside Stellar’s bedroom door and knocked for a long time. When there was no response, his patience wore thin. Grumbling, he unlocked the door with his key, only to find it hadn’t been locked at all.

“Are you done throwing your tantrum…”

The familiar, delicate scent lingered in the air, but the bed was empty.

“Running away from home?” Percy laughed bitterly, the sound edged with irritation. He ripped off his tie, pulled out his phone, and was about to call her but the annoyance building inside made him toss the phone onto the bed instead.

“Let’s see how long you can hold out,” he muttered.

There was no way he’d let her get away with thinking she could act spoiled and defiant. He wouldn’t indulge her like that.

In the living room of a luxurious villa in the prestigious Easton Hills neighborhood, a tall, striking man held Stellar close, speaking to her softly.

“There, there, don’t cry. He’s nothing but trash. Didn’t I tell you long ago? You should’ve left him ages ago. He’s not good enough for you!”

As it turned out, six months earlier, someone from the prominent Rivers family in Southport had tracked Stellar down.

They revealed that her biological parents weren’t countryside nobodies but the heiress and heir of the wealthiest family in Southport.

Though her parents had tragically passed away in an accident, her grandparents raised four sons who spent years searching for her, never giving up hope.

They told her she could return anytime, but at the time, she refused because of Percy.

Now, the irony of it all hit her hard.

Once her emotions had settled, Stellar felt a little embarrassed. She went to the bathroom to wash her face, then returned to the living room and sat across from her eldest uncle, Claude Rivers.

“Uncle Claude, I’m not ready to return to the Rivers family just yet. A few years ago, I let my mentor down, and I want to finish what I started. Besides, there are some scores I need to settle myself.”

Though her time with the Rivers family over the past six months had shown her the warmth of true family, she couldn’t forget the eighteen years she spent with the Harlow family.

They raised her, only to discard her like she was nothing. If she returned to the Rivers family now, without proving herself, she wouldn’t be able to forgive herself.

She sniffled, her eyes still red, but her expression was calm and composed.

Claude studied her for a moment, his face softening with approval.

Stellar was decisive and self-reliant. Despite the hardships she had endured, she carried herself with dignity and grace.

A true Rivers through and through.

He didn’t argue, choosing instead to respect her decision.

Claude and the entire Rivers family would fully support whatever Stellar wanted to do. This villa, one of Claude’s properties in the area, was purchased specifically for her. Without hesitation, he handed her the keys, instructing the staff to begin the transfer process immediately. From now on, it would be hers.

“If you don’t want to return to Southport yet, just stay here.”

They chatted a bit longer about family matters before Claude excused himself for other obligations. Before leaving, he instructed the housekeeper, Mary Warren, to take good care of Stellar.

The villa was quiet most of the time, with no one else around. Stellar had it entirely to herself.

Once she calmed down, she went to the study Claude had designed just for her. Sitting at the desk, she quickly began scrolling through research documents on her tablet.

“Institute of Aeronautics launches B13 mechanical chip development project, led by Professor Victor Stone…”

Victor was her former mentor. He must be deeply disappointed in her.

Back then, when she refused to pursue further studies, Victor had repeatedly tried to persuade her. Determined to avoid wavering, she cut off all contact with him.

For the past two years, she abandoned her original passion for aerospace engineering, throwing herself completely into financial investments to make herself more useful to Percy. She hadn’t touched anything related to aerospace since.

The emergency she handled during the recent flight crisis was the first time in years she had reconnected with her old field. The adrenaline rush and the sense of purpose had stayed with her, lingering in her thoughts.

No.

Now that she knew she’d chosen the wrong path, it was time to fix it.

She still had a chance.

She was going to become the Stellar Rivers she was meant to be, no matter how hard the road ahead might be.

Resolute, Stellar spent the evening reviewing materials before heading to bed. She slept soundly for the first time in a long while.

The next morning, dressed in a crisp white blouse and jeans, her long hair tied neatly into a ponytail, she carried her B13 research notes to the Aeronautics Research & Development Center. Her fresh, makeup-free face was radiant, her porcelain-like complexion exuding calm determination.

But just as she entered the campus, she ran into the last person she wanted to see—Yvonne.

What puzzled Percy was that Shane made no move to shake his hand. Instead, Shane simply stared at him with an odd expression.Percy hesitated in confusion before awkwardly pulling his hand back."Mr. Howe, is there an issue?" He just saw Stellar talking to Shane, and judging by their interaction, it looked like they’d reached some kind of agreement.Could it be… the deal hadn’t gone through? Before he could dwell further, Stellar spoke up.“Mr. Moore, I’m sorry, but I don’t have a contract for Moore Enterprises. I’m not here on behalf of your company.”Her words made Percy freeze. It took him a moment to process what she’d said, and when he did, he lowered his voice sharply.“You’d better think about where we are before causing a scene.”In a setting like this, his image was everything. He could dismiss her publicly if necessary, but she, as a woman, should know better than to stir trouble in front of an audience. In the past, Stellar, always keen on reading the room, would have imme

“Mr. Howe.” Percy stepped in front of him, blocking his path with an abruptness that bordered on rudeness, drawing the attention of those nearby.Shane smiled faintly, sizing him up. “Mr. Moore, is there something else you need?” Percy felt an unprecedented sense of humiliation. He, the esteemed president of Moore Enterprises, had never been in a position where he had to practically grovel for a partnership. But this project was critical to Moore Enterprises' performance next quarter. He couldn’t afford to let it go. Hiding his frustration behind a practiced smile, Percy said, “Stellar has never worked at Moore Enterprises. She didn’t even finish college. Whatever skills she has, she picked up from being around me. Mr. Howe, I strongly encourage you to reconsider this partnership.”Shane, a veteran in this industry, had always avoided working with Moore Enterprises, mainly because he disliked Percy as a person. The moment he heard Percy’s words, Shane’s lips curled slightly.“Are

Although Claude was always gentle and warm in front of Stellar, he was, after all, the current CEO of Riverside Corporation. His commanding presence was unmatched, and now, tinged with anger, it was downright intimidating. The sheer force of his aura made Percy’s heart skip a beat, but he stubbornly refused to back down as he stared at Stellar. “Sir, there’s clearly been a misunderstanding. Miss Rivers belongs to me.”He even considered saying that Stellar was no more than a pet he raised, convinced that no matter who this man was, no one would treasure something discarded as worthless. But before the words could leave his mouth, the man in front of him let out a cold laugh. “You? You’re not even worthy.” The single, cutting sentence shattered what little composure Percy had left. His face turned an ugly shade of red and purple. Stellar, who hadn’t eaten and already had a few drinks, felt her stomach twist even more at the thought of Percy and the cloying scent of perfume t

At the same time, in the top-floor office of Brighton Group, a man stood before the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the bustling city traffic below. The sunlight poured over his sharp, chiseled features, casting a warm golden hue that softened his otherwise cold demeanor. He stood like a figure carved from marble—aloof, otherworldly, and indifferent as if surveying the world from above. Behind him, a table held the proposal and contract sent over by Riverside Corporation. Shane, unable to contain his excitement, was effusively praising their latest acquisition to Stephen Ward. “Stephen, that Miss Rivers is truly something else—stunning and incredibly capable. The technical support she’s provided is nothing short of brilliant. I’ve got a strong feeling this partnership will last. It looks like the Rivers family has struck gold with her. With her leading Riverside, that new company of theirs has limitless potential.” Shane wasn’t just an employee or subordinate; he

Stealing confidential information was a cardinal sin in their industry. If the accusation stuck, Stellar would face legal consequences, potentially even prison time. Brighton Group would also risk being implicated. At the banquet that night, Shane hadn’t believed Percy’s claims. But now, with Percy barging into Brighton Group with apparent preparation, Shane couldn’t dismiss the possibility entirely. Turning his attention to the proposal, Shane flipped through the pages. A sharp glint flashed in his eyes before he looked at Stellar. “What does Miss Rivers want to do?” Before Stellar could respond, Percy cut in, his voice laced with smugness and indifference, as though he was savoring the moment she would plead for forgiveness. “Do you even have a choice? I’ve given you countless chances, but you insisted over and over that you weren’t representing Moore Enterprises. Stellar, without Moore Enterprises backing you, do you really think you’re qualified to negotiate with Brighto

Stellar’s eyes flickered subtly. She had expected this outcome. But with business opportunities knocking on her door, there was no reason to turn them away. She offered a graceful smile.“No problem, but I have some matters to handle right now. Let’s discuss this later.”Nicholas didn’t press further, nodding with satisfaction before cheerfully walking away. As he left, he threw a parting remark at Percy.“Mr. Moore, since the contract has expired, we’ll have to see if there’s another chance to collaborate in the future.”The implication was clear: there would be no renewal.Percy was so furious he could barely contain himself. He hadn’t anticipated that Stellar truly had the capability to pull this off—humiliating him at Brighton Group and even stealing away one of Moore Enterprises’ key partners.Staying any longer would only worsen the embarrassment, so he reluctantly signaled to his team.“We’re leaving.”But before he could take another step, Shane chuckled lightly.“Mr. Moore, do

Joy’s expression flickered for a moment before she finally spoke with composure. "My apologies. I made an error in judgment by assuming it was an engine failure from the start, which nearly led to an incorrect conclusion." She admitted her mistake openly and without hesitation. No one criticized her for it. In fact, their admiration for her only grew. Before long, the investigation report was submitted. But just as the tension had eased, another piece of shocking news arrived— "This is bad! The commercial airline under the research institute has another aircraft, AT1083, with the same issue. It took off not long ago! Unlike the A16, this isn’t a test flight—it’s already in service!"The air traffic control tower just reported that the plane has already flown over a thousand kilometers. “Its landing gear won’t deploy, and other systems are malfunctioning. It’s currently circling above the airport, and if this continues, it could face the same fate—another crash!"The highe

Percy thought Stellar had become arrogant and complacent ever since reclaiming her status as the Rivers family heiress. She was completely out of touch with reality. It was necessary to bring her back down to earth. This wasn’t a place for her to act recklessly. Even Joy felt a little embarrassed by his words. Sensing the growing tension, she stepped in to smooth things over. "Mr. Moore, I don’t think Miss Rivers meant any harm. She’s just a newcomer without much experience. There’s no need to be so harsh." "Ms. Shaw, you’re being too lenient with her. A professional investigation like this is not something an intern should be involved in." Percy genuinely believed he was doing Stellar a favor. If she knew what was best for her, she would step aside. Otherwise, she’d only make a fool of herself in front of seasoned professionals. Stellar almost laughed in disbelief. An outsider was standing here lecturing her about aerospace engineering? It was beyond absurd. S

Joy’s expression remained serious. "Got it. I’ll make the necessary arrangements right away." She then turned to the interns behind her. "From here on, Mr. Smith will guide you through the rest of the base." With that, she was about to leave. "Wait…" Stellar stepped forward urgently. "Ms. Shaw, please let us come along. We might be able to help." An accident during a test flight was a major issue. And as a future member of the engineering team, she had every reason to be involved. Joy furrowed her brows slightly before nodding. "Alright, you and three other interns, follow me." Stellar and the others quickly joined the group. The team went through an extensive investigation—analyzing the black box, running accident simulations, and reviewing flight data. But no clear issue surfaced. Frustration settled over the room. The A16 model was a brand-new aircraft, and no one had expected such a critical failure on its very first test flight. If they couldn’t pinpoint the r

A woman with sharp, cropped short hair strode into the room with long, confident steps. Please state your names, verify your identities, and follow me." Joy got straight to the point, skipping unnecessary pleasantries or any hint of arrogance. Her crisp and efficient demeanor made a strong impression, earning instant respect from the group. Snapping out of their daze, everyone took turns introducing themselves. When it was Stellar’s turn, Joy paused for a brief moment, her smile growing a touch more genuine. "So, you’re the prodigy I’ve been hearing about. Stellar Rivers—your reputation precedes you. Or did you steal someone else’s work?"Her words were razor-sharp, striking directly at his most vulnerable spot."Shut up!"Harold’s face turned red with fury. Half the day passed in a blur. During lunch break, Stellar checked her phone multiple times, but Stephen’s reply never came. "Stellar, any news?" At the cafeteria, Lilian leaned in curiously. "Did Stephen reply? What did he say? Is he going to help investigate?" Stellar set her phone down on the table, screen facing down, and tried to keep her expression calm. "He hasn’t replied." "Huh? How’s that possible? Aren’t you two a couple? I thought you were practically glued to each other all the time." Lilian blurted the words out, half-joking. But Stellar’s expression subtly shifted. "You’re overthinking it. He and I… aren’t in that kind of relationship." Her tone was light and indifferent. Yet, the moment the words left her lips, an inexplicable emptiness settled in her chest. Lilian, realizing she might have touched a nerve, awkwardly rubbed her nose and exchanged glances with Simon and Nathan, silently urging them to say something to ease the tension. "Actually, S
