Chapter 67
Selena's POV"I think the Alpha sent you some money. It's right on the table next to the bed", Lily immediately said the moment I walked in.She wasn't in the bedroom so I beelined towards the walk-in closet, unsurprised to see her dutifully hanging up some clothes."What are you doing?", I asked, joining her on the floor."You'll get a cold. Wait in the bedroom for me, I'll soon finish up here."I couldn't pay attention to what she was saying. My heart thumped loudly and my hands still trembled at the thought of the celebration tonight. It was nothing but a stupid setup and I just happened to be the highlight of it, literally. I could ask Axel for help but there wasn't much he could do without revealing he was well aware of everything happening. Then, it'd raise suspicions. Why was the Alpha and his brother's fiancée close enough to share such a groundbreaking secret? In the end, therChapter 68Selena's POV Turns out, it was more difficult to sneak out of a crowded pack house where everyone basically ignored your existence on a normal day but suddenly had so many questions about a duffel bag. We had a few close calls. No, a lot of close calls. Lily was basically hyperventilating by the time we were in the car and out of the house. We couldn't comment on how crazy it was back in the pack house because the driver is a servant too. He pulled up to the dress shop, while Lily and I leapt out, sighing in relief the moment we were inside the shop.We pleaded with the driver to return in two hours and with much convincing, he rode off. "Okay. So, where to?", Lily asked, her eyes peeled for anyone who might recognize us. I thought deeply, realizing the only place I could get something about my birth parents was back in my step family's house. "I think I'll drop by my step parents", I
Chapter 69Selena's POV The orphanage home was an almost run down building with chipped paints and leaking ceilings. The children were huddled in a corner, each clad in warm clothes against the incoming storm. It wasn't fancy in any way but the aura was that of warmth and goodwill. "How can I help you?", an elderly woman appeared, a small smile on her face as she addressed us. "Umm, I'm looking for the boss around here", I provided, staring at her expectantly. "Why? Is there any problem?""No. I just need to ask a few questions concerning an adoption years ago", I blurted out, wondering if I had revealed too much. "Then you've come to the right place", she smiled. "Come on."Lily and I trailed after her limping form until she stopped at a door to presumably an office. "Come in"We walked in after her, settling ourselves on the brown leather couch after she permitted. She sat heavily on th
Chapter 70Selena's POV I immediately leaned in, waiting impatiently for Miss Agatha's next words. Her eyes were still fixated on the picture before her, a sad expression on her face.My patience was at its end by the time she finally looked up to me. "Your parents were wonderful. They visited this orphanage home after they got married and spent a lot of time with the kids, before they had you", she smiled sadly. Her eyes glazed over as she was taken down memory lane. "When they found out your mom was pregnant, they threw a huge celebration right within these walls...""But?", I asked, dreading her next words. "But, one day they rushed in here looking frantic and scared. You were in your mother's arms and she was obviously wounded and in pain. Your father too had a stab wound. I tried asking them what was wrong but they only cared about hiding you away. They signed the papers to give you up for adoption and left almo
Chapter 71Selena's POV Everything faded leaving just my shocked face and the paper. It was almost unbelievable but I was certain the universe, moon goddess and everything good and right is working in my favor. The surname was a dead giveaway. Who is this man? Uncle, cousin? I couldn't find myself giving a fuck about that. What were the odds of finding this single piece of paper in the midst of this mess? "Lily?", I called out. Lily's rummaging ceased as she popped her head out of one of the dusty shelves. "Yes?""I've found it", I stated, too dazed to even muster a smile. "Can you believe it? I can't."Lily rushed to me, pulling me in a tight hug. "I told you it'll work out, didn't I?""Yes. Yes, you did but I just...""It's fine. I know you're probably too excited to even muster a few words", she chuckled, patting my shoulder softly. "Come on."Just as we were walking
Chapter 72Selena's POV The man scoffed but slammed his hand over the cash, pulling it slowly to himself without breaking my stare. "I see you're one fearless young lady", he snarled out, baring his brown teeth to me. In all honesty, I was a tad bit frightened by him but not so much that I physically trembled. It was more of a cautious sort of fear. "Come on then", he drawled out, the heavy southern accent in his tone prominent. He walked around the counter, right to where we stood. Lily was awfully quiet next to me that I threw a glance in her direction, just to be sure.He climbed a flight of rickety stairs, throwing us a quick peek over his shoulder to ensure we were following. The music and loud chattering dimmed significantly as Lily's shoulders sagged in relief. Making a mental note to ask her what all that was about, the bartender pushed open a wooden door, revealing a tiny room.
Chapter 73Selena's POV "Welcome", Lily and I chorused, moving aside for the man to walk in. Reynold was not as I imagined. While I knew he was probably twice my age, his face and hair concealed his age by a lot. No one would believe he was fifty years old when he looked thirty. "You must be Selena", he turned to me, his sharp green eyes piercing. I raised a brow, silently wondering how he was able to identify me. "You look like your mother."Clearing my throat, I ushered him further into the room. "Come in."Lily excused herself, rushing to grab a drink. She returned in less than five minutes. "This isn't necessary", Reynold shook his head. "In fact, we won't be here for long. I have no idea why you're living in this condition.""Listen, Mr. Reynold. I don't mean to be rude but we're basically strangers. I only contacted you because you were my last resort in finding out about my parents and my identity.""Yes", he nodded in understanding, his eyes straying to Lily. "This is a
Chapter 74Axel POV The entire pack house was in a flurry. Most patrol guards had been dispatched to the neighboring forests and cities. We'd gone as far as other packs to inform them about Selena and I could only pray to the moon goddess that she was safe. I knew this wasn't a kidnap, or else her room wouldn't be so organized and her maid would be released to pass a message across. They had stowed away some clothes and the members of the pack reported seeing them leaving the pack house with a duffel bag. The pack driver had driven them to a boutique and Selena had instructed him to return in a few hours. It was clear as day, she had gone away based on her own free will. I couldn't be relieved nor upset. My emotions were all over the place, which made it even more difficult to suck it up and be a leader in this hard time. Asher was working almost as hard as I was. On certain instances, he followed the search team. It was suspicious, but there was nothing I could hold against him.
Chapter 75Selena's POV I clutched the headrest, shutting my tightly as I wished earnestly for the wave of dizziness to pass. I had no idea what was wrong. After arriving safely to this mansion, scratch that, my mansion, I had a long and much needed bath, followed by a rejuvenating sleep. If anything, I was healthier than ever, so why did I feel like crap?"Hey", Lily peeked in, not bothering to knock. "Hi", I straightened up, forcing a smile on my face. "Why do you look like that?", she frowned, rushing to my side. "You look so pale and tired.""I'm not tired. I've just had the best rest in the history of rests", I chuckled as she wrinkled her nose. "Whatever. You still need to see a doctor.""Who needs to see a doctor?", Reynold asked as he joined us in the room. "Selena looks a bit sick, don't you agree?"Reynold kept silent, staring at me under his keen eyes. "Yes. Her face has lost its color and if my memory serves me right, she seemed to have added a bit of weight."I bla
