Sienna:

I was calm as the nurse pulled the knife out of my leg, doing my best not to scream.

However, despite myself, I found myself squeezing my palm so hard that it bled, tears escaped my eyes before I could stop them, and I the metallic taste that I tasted from my lips told me that I bit through the process, drawing blood from it.

“We are going to need to clean it, ma’am.” The nurse said, and I nodded, looking away from her and at the now worried Maria as she sat on the chair beside the door.

“You know, you are not doing yourself a favor by sitting here. I am very much capable of dealing with this.” I said, and she shook her head at me.

“I still don’t understand how things happened. Why…?”

“Welcome to the world that we live in, Maria. Sometimes, things beyond us happen.” I said, my voice softening as I looked at her. “It is not out of the ordinary, but it is not something that I want Diablo finding out about just yet. He is too weak for me to be speaking to him about such a topic.
