Ophelia discovered her boyfriend's betrayal in the most devastating way possible. She attended an engagement party, only to discover that the groom was her boyfriend of two years–the man she had poured her heart and soul into. The same man for whom she had sacrificed everything had not only betrayed her heart but also driven her family's business into bankruptcy. Still trying to pick up the pieces of what's left of her life, her parents gave her a more devastating news: they had arranged for her to marry a man in a coma. "This is your mess Ophelia, it's only right that you help clean it up," her stepmother had said. With no room for protest, Ophelia found herself bound to a lifeless stranger. Yet, fate wasn't done with her just yet, as the comatose man harbored secrets that would turn her world upside down once again

Chapter 1

Ophelia's POV"Happy anniversary Hudson," I whispered into the air, as I sat down in the cozy corner of my art gallery carefully adding the final touch to the fictional wedding portrait I made as an anniversary gift to my boyfriend of two years. This was my way of throwing a hint at Hudson, letting him know I was ready to go on a forever deal with him.Sighing deeply, I stepped back to admire my work one last time."Perfect," I muttered, smiling from ear to ear as I stared at the portrait that had Hudson and me standing under an arch of flowers, with our faces glowing with sheer happiness. The image of Hudson's face when I presented him with this gift made me giddy. I could almost hear him laughing, his deep warm voice teasing me for my crazy imagination.I glanced over the clock and realised it was almost time for the engagement ceremony of one of my major investors, Anita.I quickly changed out of my paint-streaked clothes, and into an ash-coloured gown, which hugged my features jus

Chapter 2

Ophelia's POVDifferent thoughts were running through my mind as I wiped my tear stained face with the back of my hand. I started my car, and drove out the parking lot. Just about a minute as I was headed to the hospital my phone rang again, this time around it was my stepmother, Genevieve. My relationship with Genevieve had always been cordial, with no open conflicts. Ever since my father married her, I realised my Dad wasn't who he portrays himself as. While my mom was still alive, he acted like the perfect husband, or so I thought. But all along he has been cheating on her! He and Genevieve had a daughter a year younger than me. That revelation made me feel like an outsider rather than part of the family. It was one thing if they had my stepsister after they got married, and a completely different thing when she's been in the picture all along. My Dad showered all his love on my stepsister, leaving me in her shadows like I never existed.Since Genevieve came along, I've not reall

Chapter 3

Ophelia's POVGenevieve must have heard the news about what actually triggered my Dad's heart attack. In as much as her words stung, they were the absolute truth. Seeing me might trigger another heart attack, and I couldn't bear that guilt.I parted my lips to say something but the words cut in my throat, instead I gave Genevieve a silent nod and sat down on the chair just outside the ICU.The hours crawled by, and I found myself drifting in and out of a restless sleep. As dawn began to break, I stretched my stiff limbs, and leaned back in the uncomfortable chair. Just as I was about to drift off to sleep because my eyes were heavy, the door to the ICU opened, and Genevieve stepped out."Ophelia," she called out softly. "Your Dad wants to see you.""How is he?" I asked, as I stifled a yawn, and stretched my limbs one last time."Go see for yourself she said," she answered, and gestured for me to go in.My legs felt heavy with every step I took, I was anxious and didn't know what to e

Chapter 4

Ophelia's POV "How long has he been in a coma?" I asked, not taking my eyes off him for a second."It's been a month already," Gwen replied."A month?" I muttered, masking the surprise in my voice. How can this be? Just yesterday I saw him, I didn't really pay much attention to him but he looked perfectly fine and healthy. So, how come she's saying he's been in a coma for a month? "Madame Eleanor, would be here to see you soon," Gwen said, breaking my train of thoughts. "She'll give you details about the wedding arrangements."At the word 'wedding' reality came crashing down on me. My life is about to take a really drastic turn unless I somehow figure out how to pay off the debts my family is in."I need to have a word with my parents," I said, and turned to leave."Okay," Gwen said.As I walked out of the room, I headed straight for the exit. My mind raced with different thoughts of what to do to raise money, and fast. Selling off my paintings seemed like the only option right now

Chapter 5

Ophelia's POVI woke up to the stark white ceiling of a hospital as I laid in bed with a throbbing headache. How I got here, I had no idea. The last I remembered was the old man….. Mr. Andrew told me he wanted to invest in my gallery and he came on behalf of Dominic Blackwood. If my memories serve me right, Dominic Blackwood was the name of my supposed husband. I've never been more confused in my entire life as different thoughts raced through my mind. Was Mr. Andrew really from Dominic? Or was this another one of Hudson and Anita's ploys. It didn't seem like they knew about it, because Anita was equally surprised as I was when he informed me he wanted to invest in my gallery. Well, if that's not the case, the question now would be, how was my supposed husband who is supposedly in a coma aware of the arrangements made between our parents? Also, how did he even know about my failing gallery? It's barely two days since all this mess.Trying to make sense out of all this nonsense only

Chapter 6

Ophelia's POVSitting down in the lavishly furnished living room of Dominic Blackwood's home I couldn't help but recall my conversation with him at the hospital two days ago."Let’s discuss our CONTRACT marriage, shall we?" He had said."Contract marriage?" I asked, my brows furrowed in confusion."You see, Miss–""Ophelia, my name is Ophelia," I corrected. "Aren't you supposed to be in a coma?" I asked, even though I know I sound stupid right now. He was standing in front of me, that's all the answers I should need."Yes, but it's complicated," he replied. "And I'm not here to discuss the complicatedness with you," he continued. I just stared at him, not knowing what to make of all this."I'm fully aware of the financial situation of both you and your family," he continued. "I'll give you twice the amount my mother is offering as dowry to your parents, but I'll need you to do one thing for me.""And what's that?" I asked, dreading what he might say next."Keep quiet about knowing th
