Ashly watched from the balcony of her room as cars rolled in through the gate of the mansion.
Today was the day. She was going to meet up with the person she had been engaged with, an engagement that had been arranged purely for the pack's greater good. Being an Omega, Ashly didn't have much of a choice in the matter. And she couldn't just refuse when her adoptive father, Brandon, who was also the pack leader, asked if she would marry into the Moonlight pack for the sake of the pack's wellness and to put an end to the enmity between their packs. Brandon had always done what was best for her, and the fact he actually asked Ashly permission for marriage made her really happy, as an Omega wasn't given the privilege of raising their disapproval when it came to their spouse and marriage. So, of course, she accepted. She didn't know how her alpha looked or what kind of person he was, but Ashly was already devoting her life to him, like any omega should.
After Ashly had given her approval for the marriage, Brandon had contacted the Moonlight pack Alpha, Jones Branson, who seemed just as thrilled at the prospect of a peaceful marriage between the two packs. Both the leaders seemed very intent on leaving behind the fight between the packs that had been going on for generations now.
Brandon had said, "It's time for a change."
A ritual was conducted the very same day, making a sacrifice to the moon goddess, and Ashly was engaged by the pack elders to Alex Branson, Jones son, who will be taking over as the alpha of the Moonlight Pack once Jones resigns from his reign. She was going to meet her husband-to-be today, and by golly, she was really excited.
"Ashly?", She heard a familiar voice from behind her.
"What is it, Moni?", Ashly turned around to face her sister, who smiled at her.
"Are you ready?", She walked into the room, shutting the door.
"I am,", Ashly answered, looking at herself in the mirror on the opposite wall. She let out a relieved sigh. She felt good in his navy blue-patterned blouse, tucked in, and black pants that hugged her legs all in the right places. Her long hair was upright, and she decided to sprinkle a dash of blue color on it. She still needed to do her eyes, but otherwise, she looked like eye candy.
"Yes, my dear sister, you look like eye candy.", Monika rolled her eyes.
"Did I say that out loud?", Ashly asked, scrunching her nose when Monika nodded.
"I'll do your eyes,", Monika offered, holding her hand out for the Kohl stick. Ashly trusted Monika when it came to makeup, so she didn't hesitate to hand it over to her as she sat on the bed.
"Eyes up,", she instructed, and Monika did the same.
"So, did you catch a glimpse of your mate?", Monika asked slyly. Her eyes widened, as only then did she realize that she forgot to look for her alpha after Monika had come into the room.
"Shit.", Ashly sighed and rushed to the window just in time to catch a group of people walking inside. She knew one of them was her mate, and her face fell; she did not get to see his face.
"You distracted me,", she complained, slumping back on the bed.
"Sorry,", Monika giggled, but when she saw how sad Ashly really looked, her eyes became laced with concern. "Hey, it's fine, Ashly. You'll see him in a while. The moonlight pack's spending the entire evening with us. You can talk with him, even... I'm really sorry."
Ashly closed her eyes. "It's okay, Moni. I don't know why I feel like this.", She said this even as disappointment and dejection threatened to overwhelm her. She composed herself and opened her eyes, looking at her sister with a small smile. She gestured for her to complete the makeup. And she did.
"You look amazing, Ashly.", Monika grinned. "Alex Branson is going to fall head over heels for you."
Ashly blushed as her sister continued to tease her further. She stayed with her for a while, and then Ashly said, "You should go downstairs."
She stood up, pulling her up with her. "Let's both head downstairs."
"Moni, I'm not supposed to, yet. Remember, an Omega is supposed to come only when he or she is called."
"Nonsense. You know Dad isn't like that. No one in the Shadow Pack is so narrow-minded."
"I know that, Monika.", Ashly rolled her eyes. "But we don't know how the Moonlight Pack members are. They could be typical werewolves.", Ashly shuddered when she realized that her own mate could be just a typical alpha. Someone who believed omegas were good for nothing except sex, someone who treated them like a breeding machine Someone who would hit Omegas Ashly closed her eyes, hoping her mate was nothing like that.
"If they are, I have no doubt that your friend would kick their asses for you."
Ashly snorted.
"Come on,", Monika said impatiently, and Ashly let herself be pulled by the girl out of her room, through the hallway, and down the stairs until they reached the hall.
She noticed that it was buzzing with people moving here and there with drinks in their hands. It felt really stuffy, and Ashly was really wishing she had stayed back in her room. She and Monika found their way through the crowded room as she continued to drag her. They eventually spotted their mother, and they walked towards her.
"Hello, my dears,", she said as soon as she spotted them.
Ashly took a moment to look at her mother's attire, and she said, "You look really beautiful, mom."
"So do you, my sweetheart,", Jenny said, smiling happily as she pulled her into a hug.
She pulled back just as Brandon joined them. He pulled Ashly into a side hug and said, "Are you ready, kiddo?"
Ashly took a deep breath and released it, trying not to let her nervousness show, but anyone who could smell her scent would smell how tense she was.
"Yes.", She tried to sound confident. Brandon held her hand out for his wife, who took it. They started walking, and all the other pack members made way for their Alpha and Luna. Monika tugged on her pinky, and they followed their parents. They passed the general banquet hall, where all of the pack members of both packs were dining. They walked down the hallway leading to a more private, secluded dining room, where probably her mate and her family awaited Ashly and her own family. Ashly felt the jitters in her stomach, and Monika realized it as she nuzzled into her arm and said, "You are okay, Ashly. They are going to love you."
Ashly tried to smile back at her sister as her anxiety got the best of her. They took a right turn, and Ashly felt her breath come to a stop as her eyes fell over a family seated on a dining table, one of the really fancier ones in the mansion. They looked royal and intimidating. Ashly gulped as she looked at them.
"Jones,", Brandon welcomed gleefully, and a bald man stood up and hugged him, while Jenny hugged a Latina lady around her age. Ashly figured they had to be Jones and Jia Branson. She dragged her eyes away from them to a beautiful girl who bore a spot-on resemblance to Jia Branson. She seemed really happy to see Ashly as she waved at her. Ashly smiled back, regarding and turning her attention to a little boy dressed in a suit, seated next to her, who looked really uninterested, and Ashly felt him. After all, what would a kid like about a dinner where nothing that he considered fun happened? Her eyes then fell upon the one person whom she was so anxiously awaiting. Alex Branson, in all his glory, was seated right next to the kid, and he looked like he would be anywhere but here. He refused to look anywhere except the plate in front of him, but Ashly took note of his jet-black hair and his pale skin before she heard her name being called, and Ashly bowed down to Jones and Jia Branson. Ji
Alex was fuming in anger as he drove back home. "Loosen the grip, Alex.", He heard the person from the adjacent seat say: "Shut up, Seth." "You're going to break the steering wheel,", his best friend countered. Alex groaned but loosened the choke hold on the steering anyway. "Good, now tell me what's got you all—death grippy." "It's that Omega. I hate her,", Alex snarled. "What, Omega?", Seth asked innocently. "You know who I'm talking about,", Alex said, narrowing his eyes, not impressed at Seth's act of clean hands. "Nope,", Seth said, even though his mischievous smirk said otherwise. Alex gritted his teeth and said, "Ashly James." Seth's smirk left his face. "Why do you hate her? You just met the girl. Surely, she can't be that bad." "It's not about her; it's the fucking situation,", Alex sighed. After talking with Ashly, Alex basically stormed off and snatched Seth with him back to their manor. Seth didn't raise his disappointment at being dragged away before he had eat
Ashly was good-looking; Alex will admit that. But his heart belonged to a blond-haired beauty whom he wanted to spend his entire life with. Maybe if he had met Ashly before he met Jasmine, everything would have turned out differently. He only hoped that Jasmine was willing to wait for him even after his marriage. He knew what to do; he would get married, yes, but once he was sure that the peace treaty between the packs wouldn't ever be affected, he had to get rid of Ashly. He didn't know how, but he would do it for his love. He didn't even know what was waiting for him at Jasmine Place, and he desperately wished it wasn't a breakup. He didn't know if he could take it. It would kill him if Jasmine ever left him. He soon reached the destination of his choice. He shifted back as his bones popped back into their original places. Jasmine's room was on the ground floor, and her room had a balcony that led right to the forest. Alex's feet carried her through the familiar path; he walked car
Ashly felt like her world had crashed, spinning one second and stopping entirely the next. Those words that escaped her fiancé's mouth weren't the ones that she was expecting at all. She guessed she deserved the cold treatment because it was an arranged marriage and Alex wasn't in love with her. But what Alex had said—Ashly still couldn't wrap her head around it, ten hours later. Alex had someone in his life, someone he loved, whom he planned on being with ever after their marriage. Ashly had never had an opportunity to fall in love. Being an Omega meant Ashly had a pretty sheltered life. People were never looking to build a relationship with her; they'd rather get in bed with her. It had put Ashly off relationships and falling in love. But after she had gotten engaged, she started looking forward to sharing her life with that single person to whom she would give everything. She had gotten ready to give everything to the cold and hostile Alex Branson. Ashly sighed, pulling the bedshee
"What the hell, Alex?" His sister's voice boomed through the emptiness of his room as soon as she opened the door. "Where the hell have you been?" He groaned, sitting up on the bed. To be honest, he knew this conversation was due. He had returned in the wee hours of the morning from Jasmine Place and sneaked back into the house, being careful not to wake his parents or his sister. He knew Rose was going to lecture him on yesterday's events, and he wasn't really looking forward to it. He had a good time after leaving the Shadow Pack lands and felt at peace after spending the night with Jasmine. He was in a good mood, and he wanted to maintain it that way. "Nowhere,", he replied carelessly. "Nowhere?", she scoffed. "That's funny because I don't remember seeing you at home last night." Alex sighed, avoiding her eyes. "None of your business, Rose." Rose narrowed her gaze. "Did you...Did..." She closed her eyes, irritated. Alex was an even bigger idiot than she initially thought, if he
"Monika, Ashly." Brandon shouted. "Come on down! There's someone you have to see." "God, why is he shouting in the morning?" Monika groaned, walking out of her room, her hair like that of a bird's nest making Ashly squint away her drowsiness just so she could get a clear look at her sister. And when she did, she couldn't resist laughing, making Monika let out a growl at her, before she carded her fingers through her messy hair, trying to smooth down the tangled strands, before they walked down the stairs, both wanting to know why their dad was yelling for them at 7 in the morning. They walked together to the living room, and they looked at their father, in front of whom another guy stood. And they squinted before the said guy turned around, and they both squealed, "ADOM!" "Surprise." Their friend stated before holding his arms out, knowing that the next moment Monika and Ashly were going to strangle him with a tight hug. "Curse you, Adom! I missed you so much." Monika rushed forwar
"Ashly, you look amazing." Monika said, staring at her sister, who was wearing a red, black-striped glittery long dress with a royal black sequined coat over it. She knew when Ashly picked out the dress that she was going to look amazing in it, but actually seeing her all ready for the big event brought tears to her eyes. "Of course, I do." Ashly laughed. "After all, you're the one who did my make-up." She smiled at her teary-eyed sister. She hugged her, gently shaking her head. "I love you, Ashly." "I love you too, Moni." Ashly gently patted her back. She pulled away, smiling at her and blinking away the tears before her makeup could be ruined. "Oh shit." She said as she noticed the time on the table clock in the tent assigned for Ashly in the gardens of Branson Manor. "Mom asked me to give this to someone before 4. It's half over already. Shit. shit." She pointed to the file that contained papers about the two-pack agreement and their peace treaty. "Moni, calm down." Ashly said
"What are you doing, sitting here alone?" Monika asked the blond-haired man who sat by the pond, his blazer on the ground by his side. "Just sitting. Crowd's not really my scene." He answered when he looked at her. "Really?" She asked. "I would have pegged you for a love-the-attention kind of guy." "Oh, believe me, I am. I just don't want to steal the newlyweds' spotlight." He joked. "Cocky, I see." She smirked. "Is that how you talk to an alpha?" Seth's eyes hardened, and Monika was scared for a second. "Sorry...I.." She stopped when Seth's brow furrowed. "Relax; I was just teasing you." He chuckled. Monika relaxed. "Oh." She sat down near him. "Yeah.." "So you're not like your friend, then?" She said, bringing up her knees to the chest. "Who?" Seth asked, confused. "Alex," she answered. "Alex is not that bad, either." Seth said it gently. "Try again," she said, smiling sadly. "Monika, he's not." "Seth I don't know if you know what Alex told my sister or not, but if you
By the time Ray arrived at the Downtown, the tavern owned by his 22-year-old childhood friend, Alvin, it was only a quarter to seven. It was still so early; there were only two patrons there, sitting at the bar. Henna was their bartender. RK, another friend of theirs who also worked with RK, was setting up the stage. It was jazz night. Alvin was at the bar, cleaning some of the glassware. Ray went to the bar and sat in front of Alvin. The older man took one look at him, raised an eyebrow, and said, "Well, you look like shit." "I feel like shit too." "What happened?" "Milly pregnant." "Ah," Alvin said, now understanding Ray's troubles. "You knew she was pregnant, didn't you?" There was no accusation in his voice, just resignation. Alvin nodded. "Of course I did. I think everyone who knew Milly knew. This town is not really a big town. People gossip." He took a bottle of beer from the shelf behind him and pushed it in front of Magnus. "Here, have some. It's on the house." "Thanks
In his room, Ray changed and sat on his bed. His phone lay in front of him, and he stared at it. He didn't want to admit it earlier, but he knew Jane was right. But it had only been a few months, and everything was still raw. He loved Milly, and he still does. He had been in a few relationships before Milly, but he never loved someone like he loves the omega. It wasn't just some Alpha lust. And he knew Milly hadn't moved on either. After Milly broke up with him, Ray spent weeks stalking Milly through F******k and I*******m since the latter wouldn't answer his calls, not that Milly updated much. In fact, Milly's F******k relationship status was still "in a relationship". That gave Ray hope, and he continued to stalk Milly's social media updates until Jane, Jack, and Tommy held an intervention. He wasn't allowed to obsessively refresh Milly's I*******m account or F******k page in the hopes that Milly would post something regarding the two of them. Once he stopped stalking Milly on soci
Both of them got up on their feet, and Milly threw away the pregnancy test and cup in the rubbish bin under the sink before washing her hands. She followed Mai to the kitchen, and Mai told her to help herself with any drinks she wanted. She took a soda for the Mai and was about to look for something for herself when the smell of cheese hit her nose. She was hit by a bout of nausea and quickly excused herself and made her way to the bathroom in the hallway between the dining room/family living room and the second living room, where they entertain guests. By the time Milly returned, Mai had set everything up in the family room. On the coffee table, there was a bowl of popcorn, a plate of crackers, and a pot of tea. The cheesy nachos Mai made earlier were nowhere in sight. "How do you feel about the Marvel movie marathon?" Mai asked as she held out three DVDs. "I just bought a collection of Marvel movies." "Sure." Milly wasn't that interested in Marvel, but she knew quite a bit because
Ray laughed before removing his robe and boxers. Then, he continued his meditation on Milly's jaw while his hands started playing with Milly's boobs. He trailed kisses down to Milly's neck, nibbling on it, biting it, and marking Milly while pinching and twisting the reddened verginia with his fingers until she became a complete mess. When he trailed kisses down to Milly's chest, he replaced his fingers with his tongue on one of Milly's boobs. His free hand, on the other hand, moved down to Milly Verginia. It was already wet once more. Milly whimpered when Ray gave his attention to her other boob, circling the hardened nub with his tongue. She whimpered, "Please, Ray. Enough foreplay. I want to feel you inside me." Ray straightened up and shook his head. "No, you deserve the best, love. And because it's your first time, I am going to make sure you feel thoroughly loved." He dove down again and trailed kisses down Milly's torso. His tongue dipped into Milly's belly button before he rea
On any other day, Milly would have been amused by the deer-in-the-headlights look on her boyfriend's face. However, today was not like any other day, so she walked into Ray's bedroom without a laugh, with a frown on her face instead of a smile. "Milly, hey," Ray greeted his girlfriend. He quickly sat up on his bed, his legs crossed. "Why are you here?" Milly had her hands crossed over her chest. "Shouldn't I be asking you that question, Ray? You said you had practice today. The funny thing is, Shine told me practice was cancelled." Shit, Ray thought. He forgot that Milly was friends with Shine too, and she always talked to him and Cecily on the phone. The excuse he gave Milly when the final class ended was the first thing that came into his mind before he all but ran out of the classroom. "Sorry?" he said, although it came out more like a question. Milly sighed and climbed onto the bed. "Why are you avoiding me?" Ray forced out a smile. "Who said I was?" "We've been together for
"There's no threat here. I'm just trying to show you that my brother and I are more useful to you alive than dead." Eliott seemed to take in his words for a moment before talking again. The more he considered Ray's proposal, the less focus he put on keeping hold of his brother. If he lost control and became totally distracted, maybe he wouldn't be able to keep Shine under control. Maybe he could free his brother and get Shine to fight alongside him. Apart, they were nothing more than trained wolves with no real fighting experience or skill, but at the bare edge of their full potential. Together, though, they might be enough. They might even be unstoppable. It was a long shot and probably a stupid idea. It was also the only idea he had, so Ray would make it work. "Even if I believed you, how can I know they won't kill me as soon as they find us?" "You must know a defense technique that is strong enough to prevent that." Ray shrugs, trying to appear casual. "Also, my parents value o
The first time Ray ever met Shine, he came back when he heard about his Omega brother. When Ray entered their home, he saw Shine, who was just a mess of pale skin and fancy pajamas on his dad's lap. At the time, of course, he didn't think about being an Omega big brother. Ray was just scared and confused about how he was going to take care of his omega brother. Everyone around him was talking and smiling, and he didn't understand. Nothing made much sense at all. Ray knows the meaning of Omega in this world, but society still doesn't accept it. His own mother is a big example. When Cecily was born, Ray was relieved; she was born as an Alpha, but now... His dad snapped him out of his daydreaming and smiled at him as he came to offer his hug, then offered him a look at the boy in his arms. Even though Shine was already 3 months old back then, he still loves Ray and Cecily's scent. Maybe it'll make him safe, and Ray will make sure to protect him all his life. Seven Years Later: Ray f
Alex and Ashly didn’t write their own vows this time. This time, they just repeated whatever the fake prince told them to, and they swapped the same rings they already had on. Alex even pressed the button on his bouquet to make it sing the wedding march. It was very tacky and nothing fancy. But their friends were there—their family. It was perfect. Monika was tearing up in the front row, with Rose soothing her from the side and smiling at Ashly like she was proud of her. Adom and Seth gave them a thumbs up, throwing confetti over them when they walked down the aisle afterwards. It was a spur-of-the-moment, I-dare-you-to-do-it decision on their part, but Ashly thinks that it doesn’t matter. Because if Alex is really happy with them, he wouldn’t say no to anything. “I thought it was lovely. Priest even sang a few lines from ‘Can’t help falling in love with you’.” Monika comments when they sit on a bridge, looking over the Vegas lights. Her legs dangle over the edge, and she’s hol
They sit in the huge living room, complete with a flat-screen TV that takes up a whole wall and a fountain in the middle of the room. Ashly just knows that Shine would've loved that fountain. "So, we need—Monika, where'd you get that?" Alex eyes Ashly's sister, who's sipping a new cocktail, this time a mai tai. "There was a bar downstairs, duh." She waves the yellow drink at them, lounging on the armchair. She looked stunning as ever in her black glittering dress and black stilettos. "Are you sure you don't want to slow down? What even is that?" Seth asks and comes closer to sniff at the cocktail. "Mai tai. I never mix alcohols, and today is a rum kind of day." Monika responds, ignoring the first part and giving Seth a sip. "That's actually good." "I thought men only drank brown liquids." Adom teases, and Seth flips him off. "People," Alex gets their attention effortlessly, his ringed fingers catching the light from the great chandelier on the ceiling, his voice commanding. "Th
