At night, we played the one and only, ‘Truth or Dare.’ They weren’t as many people…well actually it was only the four of us.
I know. Sounds boring right?
The day was quiet tedious and Anna needed ‘distraction’ because according to her if she did not get a ‘distraction’ she would go mad and kill all of us. Math really does drive people crazy so I don’t blame Anna. She was never really the study or getting good grades type. All that satisfied her was that if she could pass above average, unlike me. I’m not a nerd (Thank God) but I do want good grades for a better future.
We sat in a circle with Andy in front of me and Ed in front of Anna. Before starting, I was warned by both Anna and Ed about Andy giving weird and embarrassing dares. But what they did not know was that I was always looking up for a challenge. So for me it was game on.
The first bottle spin went on Anna and she chose truth, obviously. Ed asked her casually, “Who’s your latest crush?”
Anna who had a huge grin all over her face was now giving Ed a deadpan look while Andy was looking at Anna curiously. “Andy of course,” she managed a fake smile.
“He’s your boyfriend, darling. I’m asking who your crush is?” he said, emphasizing on the word crush. Anna kept glaring him for a moment.
That’s intimidating.
She sighed and mumbled, “Paul…Paul Hardy,”
Ed burst out in laughter. “Oh shut up Ed,” replies Anna irately.
“He’s just a crush Andy. I love you, you know that,” she explained. Andy nodded. He was not affected by what Anna said. He trusts her. “I know Anne but…” he hesitated before speaking, “Paul Hardy?”
“What? He’s hot. Do you not see him play?” Anna defended. Andy shrugged.
Paul Hardy is our senior and College’s Basketball captain. No doubt he is freaking hot. He’s tall and boy you should see him play. Girls drool around him (and that is not a good sight). Lucky for me since I love sports and I’m an extrovert who loves socializing, I opened up to him and we became friends. *hair flip*
I told Anna I could introduce both of them if she wants to, to which Ed replied rather mockingly, “Like you know him?”
“We are friends, thank you very much. I’ve been learning some basketball moves from him, by the way” I gave him the ‘impressed yet’ look.
We continued the game and the next turn came on me, “Andy or Ed? Who is better?” asked Anna, enthusiastically. I didn’t even choose but I answered anyways.
“Definitely Andy,” Ed fake coughed after hearing me.
Anna stuck her tongue out to Ed and then gave Andy a quick kiss. “Everyone’s favorite huh?” she said proudly.
“I love both of them and they are the greatest…I can’t choose.” I said seriously this time.
Everyone looked at me. Andy and Anna smiled while Ed just…looked at me.
The next turn went to Anna again and she chose truth, again. Ed asked her slyly, again, “when was the last time you practiced kissing in a mirror?”
Andy and I exchanged looks and then looked at Anna who was cursing Ed under her breath.
“You are so…You are a complete asshole Ed” she said.
“Answer the question, Anna darling,”
“Two days ago,” she said sighing in defeat but she quickly defended herself when she heard all of us laughing, “I put on too much lipstick and there was no tissue so I…”
“So you kissed yourself in the mirror. How cute,” Ed finished for her between his laughs. Anna threw her shoe at him.
The next turn was Ed’s and he chose dare. I expected him to. Anna said, “Sit there in nothing but shorts,” the way she said seemed almost challenging to me but seeing Ed, already stripping his shirt off, made me think otherwise. He was now sitting in his black shorts only.
“If you want to see me naked Anne, all you had to do was ask. Why bother wasting the dare?” he winked. “You wish,” Anna scoffed.
I watched Ed’s physique. It was muscular. Not too heavy and not too skinny, it was perfectly toned. “Like what you seeing Lodge?” Ed asked doing his signature smirk.
“Yeah, very much” I winked.
Now I could see that none of them were expecting me to say that and wink, especially Ed. He was trying to hide the amusement but it was clearly visible to me.
Next was my turn and I chose dare. Andy was smiling mischievously. Something was definitely going through his devil mind.
“Dance,”
Dance? I can’t dance.
“I can’t dance,” I said pathetically.
“Nonsense, everybody can dance.” He said his grin still on his face.
I got up, thinking what to do. Come on Lilly. These are your best friends. Don’t get embarrassed in doing some weird moves. I mentally scolded myself.
I smile appeared on my face as I started moving my face, followed by my hands and legs and soon my whole body was moving in a weird flow. And I finish off by a doing the moonwalk step and the Michael Jackson “Ow!’ scream. We all were laughing and I gave Andy ‘you’ll pay for this’ look.
The next turn came on me but we skipped as I already did two turns and luckily the next one came on Ed. Andy, so far was going good.
The moment Ed said ‘truth’ and I asked him excitedly, “Do you love Emily?”
“Not you too Lil. I told you guys…she’s an annoying friend who crushes on me.” He whined, “I think of her as my sister. She’s not even my type,”
“Then who’s your type?” I said between my laugh.
“You.” he responded quickly. My laugh turned to a smile. “I mean…you…you and Anna and you and…” he was definitely embarrassed, “it’s just that you girls are the only ones who I actually care about and love,” he explained.
I know what he means.
Finally, the turn I was waiting for…Andy. He chose dare. He was looking at me, challengingly. He had an evil grin. But that grin faded immediately when I said, “Lick your toe.”
“Gross!” exclaimed Anna.
“Nice one!” said Ed.
I took my phone out and made a video of him. Seeing him trying to bring his toe in front of his mouth was hilarious. But when he licked his toe, that was when all of us ugh-ed.
“Do NOT KISS me for the next whole day” ordered Anna.
The last turn came on Ed. He thought for a second and then chose dare. Anna got up and said she was going to the bathroom. We waited for her. I saw her coming behind Ed with two water bottles which looked kind of frozen.
I realized what she was trying to do so I started, “She’s taking too long. I’ll give you a dare,” I thought about it for a moment then, “Okay so just to be clear…you don’t get mad on Anna often, do you?” After he shook his head, I continued, “Good, so don’t move and you will say nothing to Anna if she does…” and that’s when Anna poured the icy water on Ed.
Ed gasped. I saw his muscles tighten. His abs got even more prominent. Water dripped from his hair to his face, down to his perfect body.
Dang!
“…that.” I completed.
He looked up. His eyes widened. We all started laughing. He got up and watched his wet body. He rubbed his hand through his hair causing the water droplets to come on me. Then I noticed his features changed. He looked at his body then at Anna. He smiled. Before I could warn Anna about what he was about to do, he had already gone in for a bear hug. Anna got all soaked up in water as well. Andy and I just looked at each other and laughed.
While preparing my bed Ed entered, “Hey!”
“Hey,” I looked at him as I sat down.
“I just…I just wanted to…tell you that what I said before in the game I didn’t mean it…in that way,” he said looking down at the floor.
I couldn’t help but to smile on that. I don’t know why but this seemed so cute.
“I know. Don’t sweat about it.”
He looked at me and opened his mouth to say something but got interrupted when my phone rang. It was Grandma. I hadn’t talked to her three weeks.
I went outside the room and in the kitchen. “Hey Grandma,” I said as lively as I could but a worried expression raised my face when I heard her coughing so badly.
We talked about the usual stuff but her cough was the only thing I was concentrating on. It wasn’t settling. “Grandma, are you sure you are alright? You have been coughing really badly.”
“I’m fine…it’s just some allergy I got a few weeks ago,” she said.
Weeks ago?
Now I was worried, “How long exactly? Did you go see a doctor?”
“It’s been a few weeks honey and the doctor said I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about me”
I realized the last time I was on call with her she was coughing but I didn’t know it would get this serious. I had a bad feeling for this one.
“You know what Grandma. It’s Saturday tomorrow. I’m coming to visit you. I’ll be back here by Sunday night. I miss you and I really want to see you so…”
“But honey…”
“It’s two days Grandma. And you now I won’t be able sleep, not until I take you to the doctor myself.” I said sternly.
She hesitated before speaking, “Okay honey, I’ll see you tomorrow”
“Have a good night”
After she hung up I sighed deeply. I hope she’s okay.
“Everything alright?”
I glanced back, “No, Grandma’s not fine. I’m worried for her Andy, she’s coughing really badly.” I explained. “Is it okay if I go tomorrow?”
“Do you really have to ask?” he smiled, warmly.
“Thank you!” I said, softly.
“Don’t worry. It’ll be alright. She’ll be fine.” He gripped my shoulder to comfort me. “I’m sure,”
I was shocked to see Anna barging in our room with a wide smile spread across her face. Ed looked annoyed by her charging in like this.
“Can we come long?” she asked, excitedly.
Ed and I exchanged glances,” Where?” we asked in unison.
“Montona! You’re going tomorrow, right?”
Oh!
I looked at Andy who was smiling at me. He told her. I noticed Ed looking at me, his brows furrowed. “Uh yeah sure, I’ll be glad.” I was happy; I’ll introduce them to Grandma. She’ll love to see them.
“Great, we’ll take Andy’s car. Night!” and she left.
Ed was still looking at me for an explanation. “Grandma’s not well. Bad cough so I…” I sighed.
“Right,” he lied back down.
The next morning, Anna’s excitement got her up at 6 a.m. which led her into waking all of us after thirty minutes. We left for Montona at 9.Andy was too sleepy and Anna’s energy drained so they both slept at the back while Ed drove and I kept him company. I was very tired but he was too so I decided to stay up.“Go to sleep Lil, I know you’re worn-out. I’ll wake you when we get there,” he said. He saw right through me.
I laughed as Grandma recalled the day when we got invited for dinner over our neighbors and the family started fighting while we were sitting at the table, “Yes. That was rather awkward”“Your friend Edward is handsome? He’s such a decent boy and his voice, his height, he looks sporty.”I looked at her, smiling, “He plays football, sometimes. And I know where you are taking this, Grandma.” After a moment of silence I continued, “He’s my best friend Grandma. We just had a silly fight while comi
Ed and I went over to Danny’s in the late afternoon while Anna and Andy gave company to Grandma. I was happy she could meet my friends. Grandma was enjoying their company and it seemed as if they were enjoying hers as well. It had been a long while since this house was so lively, since Grandma was so active and cheerful. I could tell that Ed was reluctant to go. Why though?“Behave” I whispered to Ed as I rang the bell.
It had been an hour since Grandma had collapsed. We brought her to the hospital and since then I have been striding near the door where Grandma was taken in. The more time passed, the more panic aroused within me. Why did she collapse? What happened? Is she sick? Or is it her age? The questions kept building inside me. I was tapping my thumbs together, impatiently. Anna and Andy were sitting on the chairs, looking at me, concerned. Ed had gone to bring us some juice.
Edwards POVI couldn’t sleep. Her face kept popping up in my mind. She did not deserve this. I had always seen her so happy, always smiling, laughing and always lively that it was so weird seeing dullness in her face, watching her cry. I never thought that I would see her cry. Not so soon at least.
Edwards POV: After the burial Dylan and Tim talked to us guys. Both of them were really nice. Both equally handsome and both were very elegant. One could easily tell they were brothers. I, for one, enjoyed talking to them.“So you
Lilly’s POV:I woke up, still feeling a little dizzy. I was beyond aggravated, planning schemes inside my mind on ways of killing that son of a bagel. My body felt weak but strong enough to punch that mustard fries. I went out when I heard Em’s voice from the lounge. “…thinking of canceling the reservation for Thursday,”
Duke, Ronny, Beth and Anna went to buy our beverages and eatables for the weekend. I let Em and Liv explore my closet so they were busy packing my clothes while Ed and Jack were watching television...together...which is really hard to come by. Meanwhile, Andy and I were washing my Jeep Cherokee Laredo model 2016.Since both of us were already soaked we threw a whole bucket on Anna and the others when they came back making them drip with water, too. That way we started a water fight. These guys...they really were making a great effort in keeping my mind off from everything.Duke and Andy's cars left for the Lake House twenty five minutes ago. I was sitting in my room and watching my thirteenth birthday picture. Both Grandma and I w
I drove the car back with the words of Sophia echoing in my head. “Listen to me Lilly, whatever you think was going on between Edward and I, was all false”“It was all false.” I said out to myself.“I came back with my father because he was filing a divorce. Edward was really just helping me through it. He’s gone through one.”“They were not dating. You fool! They weren’t dating,” I laughed at myself. My cheeks were red with the warming truth and ecstasy building inside me.I parked Andy’s car and ran to find Ed. I looked at our usual bench from a distance; not there. However, the gang was still seated there. They looked rather happy. I was passing the ground, scanning every face. There he was! A huge wide smile appeared on my face and I made a run towards him. I almost made a run towards him but I stopped, the smile slowly wavering off.One random girl hugged him and kissed him on his cheek. He smiled at her. I looked at the ground, thwarted. Scoffing to myself I thought, some other t
“Hello son!”I moved aside to give Andy some space to come forward. “Dad!” he didn’t smile shock was still there. “Are you not happy to see me?”He blinked as if coming back to reality, “Of course I am,” he smiled, “Come in” “Who is it?” Ed asked.“Long time no see Eddie boy”“Mr. Smith” Ed let out his charming smile and hugged him. “Ah, look at you” I’m sorry, wasn’t Andy his son? Andy and Mr. Smith were supposed to meet like the way he and Ed were meeting and hugging and smiling. “It’s good to see you after all these years, Mr. Smith” I glanced at Andy. Baffled, he stood still. I felt bad for him. Tip toeing my way to his side, I rubbed his back as a gesture of saying, ‘It will be fine” There is nothing wrong in being optimistic. We were seated in the common room. “Don’t you have anything to say to me?”Andy released a mocking snicker, “Oh, I have a lot of things to say. And ask? Like for an instance…why have you never called?”“I had my reasons”“Well please. Share them with m
Edward’s POV:“How are you doing?” I asked as I entered her room. It was like a typical girl’s room. The color of the walls emerald green and pastel pink couches and sofas. A coffee table was in the middle with a few books scattered. The cushions matched the wall color. She had huge stuffed animals and a rack full of books. Sophie’s room was neat and elegant like her personality.“You won’t believe what happened Edward” she chimed.“Seems like you’re doing just fine” I sat on the couch picking up a book from there. “Fifty shades darker? Never thought you were into fifty shades” “Change is good Edward. Olivia lent it to me”I responded quickly, “Yeah seems like Livy. Wait! You and Livy are friends?”“Why wouldn’t we be?”I looked at her and shrugged, “Never mind” “Anyways, I have to tell you something important Edward.”“Good news or bad?”“Definitely good” she was smiling. Must be something really good.“Carry on then,” I said as I skimmed through the first few pages of the book.
“I don’t want to go today” she whined. “Anna, you promised you were going to make it right. And you made me promise to come with you. You’re going Anna” I firmly told her.“You are delaying it because you’re afraid and it is alright to be afraid, Anna. But you know the saying, the sooner the better. Lilly is right. You have to do it today” Beth nodded with me. She was glowering at us, “What if she refuses hmm? What if she refuses to let me back in?”“I think you know the answer to that Anna”“She is your mother Anna, whatever differences you have had were in the past; she is still your mother,” Beth held her shoulder. “I’ll drive” I offered. In the next few minutes we were on the road, off to Mr. Andersons’ place. I prayed and hoped it would work out. They want her back. I could see it in their eyes at Christmas. How much longer do they have to be like this?“Are you ready?” Beth asked.“No,” Anna whispered, “I’m not ready.”“That’s why we are here with you Anna. Come on” We got o
Sophia’s POV:“What are we going to do daddy?” I asked taking his hand in mine. “There is nothing much left to do, sweetheart. If your mother agrees to this divorce then we’ll have to sign papers and that will be that. But if she restrains from it then matters will go to court. Your mother is a lot of things but she is not a fool. She will not advertise her affair. She will, hopefully, agree to this divorce.”“And you are sure about it? This divorce I mean?” I asked. He looked at me and kissing the back of my hand, “Listen to me sweetheart, I know this will be very tough for you but I need you to be strong. Nothing is hidden. You know what your mother did. You know my side of the story,” he cupped my cheek, “At this point; I suppose divorce is the only logical and the right thing to do” he kissed my forehead, “I am truly sorry Sophia”He got up and went to his office room. His words echoed in my ears. Suddenly, it was hard to breathe. I know mum was wrong. She most definitely deserve
Ronald’s POV: A hand smacked my back, “Turning nineteen tomorrow, eh? You have become a big man. I’m proud of you brother” Flynn grinned. “I’m glad you could make it Flynn” I hugged him. “Of course,” he moved back and held my shoulders, “You are not the only reason though. Come on.” We were seated at the table with the food among us. Flynn reached out for the skillet chicken thighs with spring vegetables whose aroma took over the whole dining room. Mom slapped his hand away, “Close your eyes. We will pray first” “My stomach is growling. Just one bite” he whined and smirked. “Flynn, listen to your mother” Dad ordered firmly. He pouted at mom who smiled victoriously, “Close your eyes and join your hands together” she spoke softly. “Thank you Lord, for giving me such a loving husband and my two troublesome boys. Forgive Flynn for disrespecting,” Flynn and I looked at each other and he winked at me before closing them again. “Our dear Heavenly father, bless us, O God. Bless our fo
Emily’s POV:Sitting on the bench, one leg over the other, I searched around the busy track to find Trevor. There were a lot of guys from different sports doing laps; basketball players, footballers, athletes. My eyes finally found him. Studying his every move, his expression his looks his body, everything from afar, I came to a conclusion that I actually might like him. He stopped running. A few of his friends gathered around him and they started chatting while walking. He laughed, waving his hand over his sweaty hair. Then he stopped and pulled his shirt up to wipe his sweat from the forehead revealing his chiseled body. He had beautiful eight pack abs. I took a deep sigh. Get control over yourself Emily. I looked down at my knees and smiled to myself. He is hot. I looked back up and he watching me. His face soft and eyes delighted. I just couldn’t stop myself from smiling at him. His eyebrows rose in amusement and he soon smiled back at me. It turned into a nervous laugh. I sat th
“So, what’s going on lately?” he started.“Mm, nothing interesting, I’m just spending most of my time with Paul now,”He blinked and took a sip of his latte. We were at the café, sitting against the window, talking like the old times. However, there was something unusual in the air between us. The familiarity of knowing a person was missing, it was like he was a stranger who I’ve met and known partially. Looking around, I realized most of the café was occupied by the same customers, the regulars. The woman typing on the laptop, the two old couples, a man with a hat and the young couple by the stand.“What about you? How is your life going with Sophia in it?” I said, hoping it didn’t sound like I was jealous. “She’s,” he paused, “It’s going the same as yours. She is going through some hard time and I am glad I’m with her, you know, to help her out of it or at least get through it.”“What’s the problem?”“Kind of personal,” after looking at me, he added, “To her. It’s personal to her s
Danny turned around and glowered at Ed for a brief moment, recalling the fists he received on that day. His face lightened and a smile appeared on his smug face. “Old friend! How are you Eddie boy?” “You,” Ed took a fierce step towards him but Sophia grabbed him by his arm. Ed had his eyes sternly fixed on Danny’s. “Oh right, I forgot,” Danny said suddenly and then turned to face me, “Happy Valentines” he winked. I walked close to him, “Get out” “What’s the big deal? I’m here to enjoy my pie. I just happen to ran into you” he turned to Papa Curt, “One cheese and onion” Papa Curt hesitated for a moment but then reluctantly nodded. “We’re leaving” I heard Ed speak as he walked out to the door. I couldn’t tear my eyes off his hand grasping Sophia’s. “Hot new girl friend,” Danny teased, without looking at him and Ed stopped, “But I would have still preferred Lilly” he looked back, smiling. Ed came marching at him and picked him up from his collar, throwing a strong blow at his face.
