My eye’s fluttered open when I heard drawers opening and closing. I got up and saw Ed in light blue jeans and a denim blue shirt with a small towel around his neck. His hair was wet and rough. That gave a very sexy look.
He looked at me over his shoulders. “I didn’t wake you, did I?”
“No,” then an afterthought struck me, “wait, we’re not late for school because of me right?”
“No,” he laughed, “I got up early; had to shower and everything. You had a good night? You looked weary yesterday,”
“Yeah, I feel lively,”
He sat on his bed, “Where did you stay when you came here?”
“At Creamery’s,”
“Mandy? Yeah of course, she’s a great person. I’ve known her since childhood.”
Today felt like a good start. I focused on my studies. This week was not so tough and all but I was impressed by the students. I’m not bragging but I am an intelligent student and I thought I might be able to maintain that here but there are a lot of students who are like me, maybe even better.
Ed, to my surprise was not only known for his hotness in school but he was outstanding in academics. I had gained popularity among the girls as I was friends with Ed. And believe me when I say, they all were crazy.
That Friday, Anna got stuck in some schoolwork so Andy stayed behind with her. I went to parking lot and saw Ed leaning against the car, talking to a girl. His gaze shifted to me and I heard him say something like, see you later.
“So it’s only the two of us,”
“What do you want to do?” he asked.
“Coffee?” I replied
“Sure,” he grinned.
We went to a small cafeteria. We ordered two lattes. He and I talked and talked and laughed and laughed. That Friday left a heavy impact on our friendship. We became so close. It was almost as if he was my long lost friend who understood me and I’d finally found him.
I met Anna’s and the boy’s inner circle; Duke Hunt and her little sister, Emily Hunt, Olivia Cox and her boyfriend, Ronald Jones, and Bethany Miller. They told me about Jack Newton who was out of city.
Listening to them made me realize I was a bit out of place here. Hearing them telling about their trips and vacation spots during summer break made me understand that these people were very rich. I was out of my league here. These people were elite and I was just a small town girl. Grandma raised me to be confident and thankful which is why money did not matter to me.
They all were very welcoming. Emily invited us to her birthday which was on Saturday and she said it’ll be a big party as she was turning 18.
“So you going to kiss her happy birthday, Ed?” cooed Anna.
“I don’t know who you’re talking about,” replied Ed, irately. It looks like to me he knows exactly who Anna is talking about.
“Oh, you know Eddie boy,” teased Andy.
Eddie boy? Really?
“Emily,” singed Andy.
Emily?
Did Ed like her?
“Em crushes on Ed and he hates it when we tease him,” explained Anna.
I looked at him. “It can’t be helped,” he said.
It was Saturday afternoon. We were having this conversation while enjoying our snacks. We were to leave for Emily’s birthday in two hours.
Anna was dressed in a purple frock that covered her knees with a silver heart necklace. Her hair was neatly open and she looked beautiful. I on the other hand put my grey slacks on with a fancy royal blue silk top, and slip-ons underneath. I brushed my hair open and put on just a lipstick and I was ready. It took me no more than ten minutes. I always preferred shirts and jeans rather than frocks and skirts. I liked tomboy style. It suited me.
Andy drove. We put on some music in the Jaguar SUV Andy owned.
“You look classy,” said Ed.
“Thanks, you look hot too. I’m pretty sure Emily would love you even more,” I winked. Well, he did look hot in his black silk T-shirt and black jeans with Adidas joggers. Andy wore a maroon shirt with black jeans and joggers.
Ed glared at me while Andy and I high-fived.
We reached Emily’s house. It was freaking huge. Her garden was near to 605 square yards. Did she invite the whole college? Just how rich is this woman?
The place was full of drunken teenagers, smooching and dancing like idiots. I had only seen this in the movies. And here I thought this happened only during high school times but I guess I was wrong. This was a whole new experience for me.
“When’s Jack going to be here?” asked Bethany, impatiently.
“He’s on his way. Don’t worry he’ll be here in a few minutes.” Emily replied and Bethany pouted like a baby. I had no idea what to do. Sitting here, observing around seemed to be the only thing keeping me busy. Besides, I really wanted to avoid questions being directed at me which was going to happen soon. It was getting hot and I guess I was starting to feel nervous and left out.
“Can I know where the bathroom is?” I asked.
“You want me to take you?” said Ronald.
I looked at him. Olivia hit his shoulder and Ed gave him a deadly stare. “I’m kidding,” he said, noticing Ed’s glower.
“It’s upstairs to the left. That’ll be my bedroom by the way.” She smiled.
I got up and headed upstairs. People were all over the place. I passed a room and heard noises. Ew! Apart from the noises it was quiet upstairs. It gave my mind some peace and my heart to normal its beat. As I was about to go inside the room, a drunk guy got outside and following behind him was a satisfied girl who seemed to be lost in her world. His shoulder brushed against mine. He whistled.
“You want me, baby?”
Baby? Seriously? You just had sex with a girl inside.
Ignore him Lilly, he’s drunk. Calm down. Let it slide.
He pushed me to the wall and forced himself on me. He made attempts but failed. “Alright seriously let me go,” I struggled but his grip on my shoulders was too tight. I was panicked at first. My first time in a party and I was already being forced on. Then I closed my eyes and when I opened them, I was pissed. “Let me go!” My leg was half way there but someone sternly said,
“Back off, now”
A tall guy dressed in army green shirt and black jeans stood heroically by the stairs. He had black hair and beautiful green eyes. He was striking.“You got a problem?” asked the boy.“This is my best friend’s birthday. I don’t want to create a scene so…” the cute guy started but he was caught off guard when I kicked the boy holding me, between his legs. The boy made a squeaky sound before he passed out. I looked at the cute guy who was completely amazed by what I had just done.
At night, we played the one and only, ‘Truth or Dare.’ They weren’t as many people…well actually it was only the four of us.I know. Sounds boring right? The day was quiet tedious and Anna needed ‘distraction’ because according to her if she did not get a ‘distraction’ she would go mad and kill all of us. Math really does drive people crazy so I don’t blame Anna. She was never really the study or getting good grades type. All that satisfied her wa
The next morning, Anna’s excitement got her up at 6 a.m. which led her into waking all of us after thirty minutes. We left for Montona at 9.Andy was too sleepy and Anna’s energy drained so they both slept at the back while Ed drove and I kept him company. I was very tired but he was too so I decided to stay up.“Go to sleep Lil, I know you’re worn-out. I’ll wake you when we get there,” he said. He saw right through me.
I laughed as Grandma recalled the day when we got invited for dinner over our neighbors and the family started fighting while we were sitting at the table, “Yes. That was rather awkward”“Your friend Edward is handsome? He’s such a decent boy and his voice, his height, he looks sporty.”I looked at her, smiling, “He plays football, sometimes. And I know where you are taking this, Grandma.” After a moment of silence I continued, “He’s my best friend Grandma. We just had a silly fight while comi
Ed and I went over to Danny’s in the late afternoon while Anna and Andy gave company to Grandma. I was happy she could meet my friends. Grandma was enjoying their company and it seemed as if they were enjoying hers as well. It had been a long while since this house was so lively, since Grandma was so active and cheerful. I could tell that Ed was reluctant to go. Why though?“Behave” I whispered to Ed as I rang the bell.
It had been an hour since Grandma had collapsed. We brought her to the hospital and since then I have been striding near the door where Grandma was taken in. The more time passed, the more panic aroused within me. Why did she collapse? What happened? Is she sick? Or is it her age? The questions kept building inside me. I was tapping my thumbs together, impatiently. Anna and Andy were sitting on the chairs, looking at me, concerned. Ed had gone to bring us some juice.
Edwards POVI couldn’t sleep. Her face kept popping up in my mind. She did not deserve this. I had always seen her so happy, always smiling, laughing and always lively that it was so weird seeing dullness in her face, watching her cry. I never thought that I would see her cry. Not so soon at least.
Edwards POV: After the burial Dylan and Tim talked to us guys. Both of them were really nice. Both equally handsome and both were very elegant. One could easily tell they were brothers. I, for one, enjoyed talking to them.“So you
I drove the car back with the words of Sophia echoing in my head. “Listen to me Lilly, whatever you think was going on between Edward and I, was all false”“It was all false.” I said out to myself.“I came back with my father because he was filing a divorce. Edward was really just helping me through it. He’s gone through one.”“They were not dating. You fool! They weren’t dating,” I laughed at myself. My cheeks were red with the warming truth and ecstasy building inside me.I parked Andy’s car and ran to find Ed. I looked at our usual bench from a distance; not there. However, the gang was still seated there. They looked rather happy. I was passing the ground, scanning every face. There he was! A huge wide smile appeared on my face and I made a run towards him. I almost made a run towards him but I stopped, the smile slowly wavering off.One random girl hugged him and kissed him on his cheek. He smiled at her. I looked at the ground, thwarted. Scoffing to myself I thought, some other t
“Hello son!”I moved aside to give Andy some space to come forward. “Dad!” he didn’t smile shock was still there. “Are you not happy to see me?”He blinked as if coming back to reality, “Of course I am,” he smiled, “Come in” “Who is it?” Ed asked.“Long time no see Eddie boy”“Mr. Smith” Ed let out his charming smile and hugged him. “Ah, look at you” I’m sorry, wasn’t Andy his son? Andy and Mr. Smith were supposed to meet like the way he and Ed were meeting and hugging and smiling. “It’s good to see you after all these years, Mr. Smith” I glanced at Andy. Baffled, he stood still. I felt bad for him. Tip toeing my way to his side, I rubbed his back as a gesture of saying, ‘It will be fine” There is nothing wrong in being optimistic. We were seated in the common room. “Don’t you have anything to say to me?”Andy released a mocking snicker, “Oh, I have a lot of things to say. And ask? Like for an instance…why have you never called?”“I had my reasons”“Well please. Share them with m
Edward’s POV:“How are you doing?” I asked as I entered her room. It was like a typical girl’s room. The color of the walls emerald green and pastel pink couches and sofas. A coffee table was in the middle with a few books scattered. The cushions matched the wall color. She had huge stuffed animals and a rack full of books. Sophie’s room was neat and elegant like her personality.“You won’t believe what happened Edward” she chimed.“Seems like you’re doing just fine” I sat on the couch picking up a book from there. “Fifty shades darker? Never thought you were into fifty shades” “Change is good Edward. Olivia lent it to me”I responded quickly, “Yeah seems like Livy. Wait! You and Livy are friends?”“Why wouldn’t we be?”I looked at her and shrugged, “Never mind” “Anyways, I have to tell you something important Edward.”“Good news or bad?”“Definitely good” she was smiling. Must be something really good.“Carry on then,” I said as I skimmed through the first few pages of the book.
“I don’t want to go today” she whined. “Anna, you promised you were going to make it right. And you made me promise to come with you. You’re going Anna” I firmly told her.“You are delaying it because you’re afraid and it is alright to be afraid, Anna. But you know the saying, the sooner the better. Lilly is right. You have to do it today” Beth nodded with me. She was glowering at us, “What if she refuses hmm? What if she refuses to let me back in?”“I think you know the answer to that Anna”“She is your mother Anna, whatever differences you have had were in the past; she is still your mother,” Beth held her shoulder. “I’ll drive” I offered. In the next few minutes we were on the road, off to Mr. Andersons’ place. I prayed and hoped it would work out. They want her back. I could see it in their eyes at Christmas. How much longer do they have to be like this?“Are you ready?” Beth asked.“No,” Anna whispered, “I’m not ready.”“That’s why we are here with you Anna. Come on” We got o
Sophia’s POV:“What are we going to do daddy?” I asked taking his hand in mine. “There is nothing much left to do, sweetheart. If your mother agrees to this divorce then we’ll have to sign papers and that will be that. But if she restrains from it then matters will go to court. Your mother is a lot of things but she is not a fool. She will not advertise her affair. She will, hopefully, agree to this divorce.”“And you are sure about it? This divorce I mean?” I asked. He looked at me and kissing the back of my hand, “Listen to me sweetheart, I know this will be very tough for you but I need you to be strong. Nothing is hidden. You know what your mother did. You know my side of the story,” he cupped my cheek, “At this point; I suppose divorce is the only logical and the right thing to do” he kissed my forehead, “I am truly sorry Sophia”He got up and went to his office room. His words echoed in my ears. Suddenly, it was hard to breathe. I know mum was wrong. She most definitely deserve
Ronald’s POV: A hand smacked my back, “Turning nineteen tomorrow, eh? You have become a big man. I’m proud of you brother” Flynn grinned. “I’m glad you could make it Flynn” I hugged him. “Of course,” he moved back and held my shoulders, “You are not the only reason though. Come on.” We were seated at the table with the food among us. Flynn reached out for the skillet chicken thighs with spring vegetables whose aroma took over the whole dining room. Mom slapped his hand away, “Close your eyes. We will pray first” “My stomach is growling. Just one bite” he whined and smirked. “Flynn, listen to your mother” Dad ordered firmly. He pouted at mom who smiled victoriously, “Close your eyes and join your hands together” she spoke softly. “Thank you Lord, for giving me such a loving husband and my two troublesome boys. Forgive Flynn for disrespecting,” Flynn and I looked at each other and he winked at me before closing them again. “Our dear Heavenly father, bless us, O God. Bless our fo
Emily’s POV:Sitting on the bench, one leg over the other, I searched around the busy track to find Trevor. There were a lot of guys from different sports doing laps; basketball players, footballers, athletes. My eyes finally found him. Studying his every move, his expression his looks his body, everything from afar, I came to a conclusion that I actually might like him. He stopped running. A few of his friends gathered around him and they started chatting while walking. He laughed, waving his hand over his sweaty hair. Then he stopped and pulled his shirt up to wipe his sweat from the forehead revealing his chiseled body. He had beautiful eight pack abs. I took a deep sigh. Get control over yourself Emily. I looked down at my knees and smiled to myself. He is hot. I looked back up and he watching me. His face soft and eyes delighted. I just couldn’t stop myself from smiling at him. His eyebrows rose in amusement and he soon smiled back at me. It turned into a nervous laugh. I sat th
“So, what’s going on lately?” he started.“Mm, nothing interesting, I’m just spending most of my time with Paul now,”He blinked and took a sip of his latte. We were at the café, sitting against the window, talking like the old times. However, there was something unusual in the air between us. The familiarity of knowing a person was missing, it was like he was a stranger who I’ve met and known partially. Looking around, I realized most of the café was occupied by the same customers, the regulars. The woman typing on the laptop, the two old couples, a man with a hat and the young couple by the stand.“What about you? How is your life going with Sophia in it?” I said, hoping it didn’t sound like I was jealous. “She’s,” he paused, “It’s going the same as yours. She is going through some hard time and I am glad I’m with her, you know, to help her out of it or at least get through it.”“What’s the problem?”“Kind of personal,” after looking at me, he added, “To her. It’s personal to her s
Danny turned around and glowered at Ed for a brief moment, recalling the fists he received on that day. His face lightened and a smile appeared on his smug face. “Old friend! How are you Eddie boy?” “You,” Ed took a fierce step towards him but Sophia grabbed him by his arm. Ed had his eyes sternly fixed on Danny’s. “Oh right, I forgot,” Danny said suddenly and then turned to face me, “Happy Valentines” he winked. I walked close to him, “Get out” “What’s the big deal? I’m here to enjoy my pie. I just happen to ran into you” he turned to Papa Curt, “One cheese and onion” Papa Curt hesitated for a moment but then reluctantly nodded. “We’re leaving” I heard Ed speak as he walked out to the door. I couldn’t tear my eyes off his hand grasping Sophia’s. “Hot new girl friend,” Danny teased, without looking at him and Ed stopped, “But I would have still preferred Lilly” he looked back, smiling. Ed came marching at him and picked him up from his collar, throwing a strong blow at his face.
