I looked back at the driver who gave a slight bow to Xander before he left. The connection was clear: Xander's knowing look could only mean one thing - he had been informed about the driver's plan to bring me here.

Then, I turned to Xander who folded his arms. He spoke, “I thought you agreed to leave.”

I said firmly, “I changed my mind.”

“Why?” He asked, with his eyes locked on mine.

“It's a long story, and I feel concerned about that child. I feel guilty too.”

“Guilty?” he repeated, his brows furrowed.

“Well, I had a nightmare about that child the other night. He died with the same physical symptoms we saw.” I clenched my fists, my voice rising. “If only I had been able to stop the murderer before that incident, all these wouldn't be happening.”

Xander's expression turned thoughtful. “When did you have this nightmare?”

“After the coma, and I think after the argument. I don't really remember.”

“I think we still need to see a doctor.”

“Why? Don't tell me that you think the nightm

ZIVAI raised an eyebrow. “Oh, really?” I asked, my voice laced with skepticism. “You forgot to mention that the room was reserved for both of us?”Xander stood up as a charming smile appeared on his face, “Yes, and it's not appropriate to tell anyone about the pending divorce...yet.” He approached me slowly, his eyes sparkling with a gentle warmth. “But let's focus on getting you comfortable, okay? And let's just...enjoy each other's company...for now.”I folded my arms, “I don't like this idea. Also, do not think that I will change my mind about getting the divorce papers. I won't.”“Alright,” he replied, his voice low, while I walked into the bathroom.Turning around, I warned, “Keep your distance, and don't come close.”Xander nodded. With that, I headed into the bathroom, eager to soak my back in a warm bath. As I entered the bathroom, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. Finally, some peace and quiet. I began to fill the bathtub with warm water, adding some calming essentia

ZIVALeaning in slightly, I closed my eyes, expecting a kiss from Xander. Instead, Xander spoke softly, “How about we finish your bath, hmm?”My eyes snapped open, and I pulled back. “Right... My bath,” I nodded and returned to the bathtub. I could not even face him because I felt embarrassed. I was the one who wanted a divorce, then, I was leaning for a kiss. Oh great, what would he think of me? I focused on the bath, trying to shake off the memories of what happened earlier. I felt disappointed, but why? I didn't want him to kiss me, did I?Afterward, I changed into a new set of clothes and prepared to check the Mel Tree. However, whenever I tried to leave, Xander would always be around.“I know you are still worried about the death case,” Xander began, causing me to huff in annoyance. He knew that I would be worried, yet he wanted me to leave.“Fortunately, we found out that it was a disease. They were infected by the pork they ate. A day before they died, the two families had vi

ZIVA“Okay, we're not discussing the investigation,” Xander said, as he assisted me to sit up. “We're only talking about why you didn't answer my calls and where you went.”“I headed to the Mel Tree since you refused to include me in the investigation,” I confessed, my voice firm and confident.Xander's eyes widened in shock as he exclaimed, “What?”I explained in a calm tone, “I found out that the two families were among the people who pinned their wishes to the Mel Tree. Also, someone cast a specific death spell on them - one that controls their body and kills them when their inner self chooses the wrong path.”“A mind trap?” Lance said, raising an eyebrow.“Exactly!” I snapped my fingers and narrated what happened earlier. While I was there, trying to escape from the bear, my body returned home and slumped on the bed. Also, if I had chosen the left path, I would be on my bed, dead with the same symptoms as the deceased.“I heard about the spell at Granelma pack and I only recall i

ZIVA“Will you give me another chance to be the husband I should have been from the beginning?” Xander asked. My heart melted at his words. I nodded slowly, tears of joy streaming down my face, and whispered, “Yes, Xander. I'll give you another chance.”Then, Xander's face lit up with a radiant smile. He slid the stunning, diamond ring onto my finger, and he rose to his feet.“Thank you,” he said as he gently cupped my face with his hands and kissed me tenderly. TANIAMy father, mother, and I settled for dinner and we ate quietly. I savored the sweet taste of the meal I was eating until Father began to speak.“Nikolas's pack is safe and he is doing well now. Don't you think you should return to your home?” Father asked as I gulped the food in my mouth.Gulping, I felt my stomach churn. I didn’t want to discuss that cheating asshole Nikolas or go back to his pack.“Dad, I just want to stay here for a while,” I said softly, trying to persuade him and distract him from discussing Nikola

TANIAI stood there, frozen in shock, as my mother's words echoed in my head. I couldn't believe she was doing this to me. I had nowhere to go, no one to turn to. My father and mother had made it clear: I was to return to Nikolas's pack, or I would be disowned and left with nothing. The thought of going back to that place, to that asshole, made my skin crawl. But I had no choice. I was trapped. With a heavy heart, I slowly turned and walked to my room, feeling like I was walking to my own prison sentence. I packed my bags in a daze, my mind racing with thoughts of escape. But I knew it was futile. I had to face the reality: I was going back to Nikolas, and there was nothing I could do to stop it.I thought about how I had made a mistake by marrying Nikolas in the first place, knowing he was Ziva's boyfriend. Now, I am paying the price for my own greed. If I had just left Nikolas when I had the chance, instead of marrying him, maybe things would be different. Being forced to go ba

TANIAI paused, processing what Nikolas said. I exclaimed as soon as I understood, “You did everything and hurt me, for that bitch, your so-called Beta?!”Nikolas nodded with a smile on his face, “Yes. I would appreciate it if you call her by her name from now on. She is Delilah, the love of my life.”I clenched my fists, feeling annoyed and disheartened. I loved him and treated him as my mate, but he hurt me for a woman he called his Beta.“Fine, I understand.” I sniffled, “Delilah is the woman you love, while I am the woman you toyed with.”“Good!” He exclaimed, then he went ahead to move the silvery chains from me. As soon as he released me from the chains, I rose to my feet and slapped him across the face.Startled, Nikolas held his cheek, while I yelled, “You are a jerk, an asshole, and whatever word would fit a despicable man like you! To think that I married you and spent the nights with you! Despicable!”Nikolas turned. He raised his hand to slap me, but I caught his hand bef

TANIAAs I stood up to leave the bar, everywhere spun for a minute and my legs felt jelly. I widened my eyes and tried to focus on walking out of the bar, but even my vision was hazy. When I tried to take another step, everywhere spun again and I almost stumbled on the stools. Suddenly, I felt a warm hand grasp mine, its contact made my cheeks burn red instantly.I glanced at my side, and my gaze fell on Zarek. He stopped me from falling and my heart skipped a beat as he touched me. It felt as though I should drag him by his collar, kiss him and be intimate with him.“I'm probably thinking this because I'm still drunk,” I admitted to myself, trying to rationalize my thoughts. But there was something about him... something that drew me in, despite my cloudy judgment. My mind was a jumble, but I knew I had to shake off the haze and think clearly. “Ugh, focus, Tania!” I mentally scolded myself, trying to snap out of it. Just then, Zarek's soft voice broke through my foggy thoughts. “A

TANIAAfter a few hours, the bar was sparkling clean. I leaned against the counter to rest, as I was exhausted from cleaning.Suddenly, a low growl echoed. I have not eaten lunch yet. I touched my belly, as it grumbled again, and as I stood there wondering what to eat, my ears perked up at the sound of soft footsteps approaching me. Turning around, I saw Zarek.Tsk, now he appears out of nowhere after cleaning everything. My gaze shifted to the bowl he carried. It was a bowl filled with food and the sweet aroma of the food wafted into my nostrils.Finally... “You arrived just in time; I'm starving,” I said. As soon as he placed the bowl on the counter, I picked up a spoon, intending to eat.But just as I was about to take a bite, I felt a smack on my hand. I looked up to see Zarek smiling warmly. “I wasn't expecting you to even touch the mop,” he said, “but you did a great job. Hopefully, you'll work just as well as a bartender tonight. • An Enemy Called Mate   Chapter 153

ZAREK The hall had emptied, leaving behind a quiet that felt almost sacred. The day had been full of energy and celebration, but now, with everyone gone, it was just Tania and me. The air was calm, and I could feel the weight of the moment settling in. I turned to her, my heart steady. This wasn’t going to be a surprise—after all, her mother had practically announced my intentions earlier. But that didn’t matter. What mattered was what I had to say, and how much I wanted to share this with her.“Let’s take a walk,” I suggested, squeezing her hand gently. She looked at me, her eyes warm and trusting, and nodded. We made our way up the grand staircase to the top floor, where the large windows offered a clear view of the night sky. The moon hung low, casting its soft light across the polished floors, creating an intimate, almost magical atmosphere.Tania turned to me, curiosity in her gaze. “What are you up to, Zarek?”I chuckled softly. “I know your mother already spilt the beans

ZAREK “Mum, what’s going on here?” Tania asked, her brows furrowing in concern.Tania’s mother looked up, a touch of defensiveness in her tone. “I was just discussing your engagement plans with Zarek. Don’t I have the right to know?”Tania opened her mouth to protest, but I stepped in to diffuse the situation. “It’s fine, Tania. There’s nothing wrong with discussing it. And yes, I do have plans to propose.”Tania’s eyes widened slightly with surprise, then softened as she looked at me. Her mother let out a sigh of relief. “Alright then,” she said, giving a small nod before walking away, leaving us in the midst of the bustling crowd.Tania tugged gently at my hand, guiding me towards the photo op area. As we walked, I couldn’t help but ask, “You’re not worried about the delay in the proposal, are you?”She shook her head, a light smile on her lips. “No, not at all. A normal relationship takes about two years before a proposal is made, so this is pretty standard. Besides, you’ve been

ZAREKTime passed, and the weight of justice finally settled. With Boss and Alpha Barral behind bars, the world felt a little safer, a little lighter. Then, a loud, booming voice echoed through the hall: “Alpha Zarek!”The words reverberated off the high ceilings and marble floors, sending a shiver down my spine. In an instant, the hall erupted into thunderous applause, a sound filled with appreciation and respect. I let the waves of applause wash over me, taking a moment to soak it all in.This moment felt surreal, almost like a dream, yet the warmth of the applause and the shining eyes of Xander and his Luna, Ziva, reassured me that it was real. The pride that radiated from them confirmed everything I had fought for.I took a deep breath, savouring the moment, then began my walk to the stage. The crowd parted, clearing a path for me, their eyes full of admiration and respect. As I climbed the steps, the weight of responsibility settled on my shoulders, but it was a burden I was re

ZAREK I held my breath. Alpha Rowan? I had heard of him—a powerful Alpha who was supposed to have been killed along with his wife. But this? It didn’t make any sense.“That’s impossible. He and his wife were killed,” I said, my voice barely audible.“They were,” Lizzy confirmed, her eyes darkening with the weight of the truth. “Nikolas’s father and boss conspired to kill Alpha Rowan and his wife as part of a twisted plan to seize power. When the plan went south and Boss was discarded, he hid the truth from you to protect his own agenda.”The room felt like it was spinning, with the walls closing in as the reality of her words sank in. I felt like I was falling, unable to grasp anything solid. The man who raised me, who trained me, who I trusted—he’d kept this from me my entire life. I had lived in the shadow of a lie. “So, everything I thought I knew... was a lie?”Lizzy nodded; her expression pained. “He kept you in the dark because he didn’t want you to know where you really

ZAREK Tania’s breath hitched, her eyes searching mine for any hint of a joke. But this was no time for jokes, no room for lies.“Assassins?” she whispered, her voice trembling with disbelief.“Yes,” I confirmed, leaning in closer, my tone even. “We’re trained, skilled, and we do whatever it takes—robbing, stealing, destroying.”“The man Lizzy killed was sent to take us out. He murdered Ramirez and Bruce, and he wouldn’t have stopped until he succeeded.”As I spoke, I watched as Tania’s expression shift—a collision of shock and confusion. I could see her trying to piece it all together with the revelation I had just dropped. “What? This whole time?” She asked.I nodded, feeling the weight of my own words. I never wanted her to find out like this. Not like this. But there was no going back now. “I never wanted you to find out this way, but it’s the truth. There’s more, though, Tania.” I paused, grappling with the right words. How do you explain the darkest parts of yourself to so

ZAREK We stood there for a long moment, wrapped in each other's arms, the tension and fear melting away. The tremble in Tania's shoulders stilled, and when she finally pulled back, her eyes, once clouded with tears, had cleared.“I met Lizzy recently,” she whispered. The words startled me, and I felt my pulse quicken.“Lizzy? Is she alright?” I asked, searching her face for answers. The thought of anything happening to Lizzy sent a jolt of panic through me. I needed to know if she was okay.Tania nodded, “Yes, she came here with me.”As she spoke, the tightness in my chest eased, replaced by a wave of relief. If Lizzy was with Tania, then she had to be safe.Afterwards, I noticed that she shifted her gaze to what was behind me. Her expression shifted to a mix of relief and something else.Concerned, I followed her line of sight, and turned to see Lizzy. She stood in the doorway, her eyes locked on me. She didn't seem hurt or weary. She seemed rather strong. Stronger than I remembered

ZAREK The memory of the man on the phone lingered. Whoever he was, he felt more like a conspirator. And then there was Dr. Everett, standing before me with that unnerving calm, as if everything was perfectly under control.Something didn’t add up.“Are you even a specialist?” The question slipped out before I could stop myself.Dr. Everett’s expression turned mocking. “That’s a good question.” He leaned in, his eyes glinting with amusement. “Is the Medical Arts Building even real? Am I the real Dr. Everett?”My mind raced. The Medical Arts Building isn’t real?Confusion clouded my thoughts. “What are you talking about?”“This is all just a game,” he said with a casual shrug.“What?” I said, bewildered.Dr. Everett’s back was now turned to me as he moved towards a distant table.“Wait a minute,” I said slowly, dread creeping in. “You’re not Dr. Everett, are you?”He didn’t respond; his focus absorbed in whatever he was searching for. The metallic clinks filled the silence. Then, his l

ZAREK The pungent smell of blood jolted me awake, making my stomach turn. I immediately started coughing uncontrollably, and blood spilt out of my mouth with each rasp.Even when I tried to push myself up, my arms barely responded, quivering under the strain.I felt weak—far weaker than usual. Had I injured myself during the transformation?I shook my head slightly, trying to recall. But the memories were hazy, blurred by pain. The only clear memory was how I had hurt Tania—or, worse, maybe even killed her.The thought hit me like a sledgehammer: my claws slicing through the air... her lifeless form.I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to block out the images, but they burned behind my eyelids, searing into my mind.I forced myself to focus, to push past the rising wave of guilt. I had to find out where I was and what had happened. But as I shifted, pain flared in my wrists, snapping me back to the present.I looked down and saw silver cuffs clamped tightly around them. Why am I cuff

TANIA I slowly opened my eyes, only to be stabbed by a bright light that made me wince. For a moment, I lay there, trying to let my senses adjust.Taking a deep breath, I raised my head and attempted to sit up, but the effort sent the room into a dizzying swirl of colours and shapes. My strength faltered, and I fell back against the pillow, my head sinking into its softness. As I lay there, my hand instinctively moved to my cheek, where a dull ache pulsed beneath the surface. I traced the tender skin, feeling the faint ridges where claws had raked across it.The memory of that searing pain was still vivid, as was the look on Zarek's face—his eyes wild and uncontrolled, filled with a terror I had never seen before.A shudder ran through me at the thought, and my heart began to race. Despite the dizziness, I forced myself to sit up again, driven by my concern for Zarek.I needed to see him.I sat up, and slowly, the room gradually came into focus. I took in the sterile white walls
