Chapter 17

Sarah's POV

Five hours later,I found myself seated at a long table filled with mouthwatering dishes ranging from savory meats to salads,potatoes and chicken soups. The best sets of china ceramic plates occupied the table covered with pure white linen clothing.

I couldn't stop gazing at the beautifully adorned furnitures and wall paintings round the hall. It reminded me of home where I grew up in.

Flowers were well decorated and curtains were weaved together suitably to fit in the designs of the house.

I wondered where I was at the moment and reminisced back to the events of last night.

Lycan Julius stayed behind to witness the unbinding ceremony of Alpha Jacob and I. At first,the council disagreed due to strict rules guiding the pack.

As stated earlier,werewolves of their pack most especially Alpha werewolves find it hard to let go of their mates and are very possessive of them.

Alpha Jacob rejecting me as his mate took the council by surprise,it seemed to them he was forfeiting a major law guiding the pack. It has never been heard among their own pack that an Alpha werewolf rejects his Luna.

But there was really nothing that could be done to change his mind. He stood unresolved despite the hushed whispers and controversy.

And so I was headed down to the ceremony not being able to decide my fate. My wolf shifted so far from me I could barely sense her presence in my head.

Words of rejection were spoken and we were made unbound physically by cutting each other right on the spot where we were marked and inserting our names.

When it was all done and we were both freed from the obligations we made to the moon goddess,Lycan Julius officially announced to the council his new position of assuming the role of head over both Lycans and werewolves.

The grim look on every elder's faces said it all-they weren't happy about this unexpected leadership over them but as Julius stated,it was for everyone's benefit and for easy attack against intruders.

The elders were more stunned when he also announced his claim on me as my mate. Alpha Jacob was indeed shocked at Julius sudden interest in me. But he knew he couldn't stand in the way of a Lycan so he kept mute about the whole situation.

Lycan Julius and I ignored everyone and walked away from the grove. He kept silent all through our way down here which he introduced to me as his house. He quickly handed me over to the maidens in the house and rushed out to an impromptu meeting.

I found out that I was indeed starving and ravenously finished my served breakfast. After that,I showered and made a beeline tour of the house escorted by two female servants. Everything about this place screamed opulence.

The more I climbed staircases and found hallways,the more I felt tired. I paused as I reached the large painting of Julius' father,his face still looked fresh and lively to me. I didn't know I was staring for long until a voice startled me.

"Lovely isn't it?" I jolted in shock on realizing who the voice belonged to.

My wolf really showed her excitement in my head. Ever since Lycan Julius mentioned the word mate,she stopped being quiet. She never stopped describing how she felt inside,the strong connection was just too much for her. And I felt just exactly the same way.

Julius Pov

For a long time,I thought mates weren't just for me. Not that I wasn't attracted to the opposite gender,but the thought of having to spend my entire life with a person who I was only soul connected to made me slow down on my search for a mate.

Regardless of the female attention I was getting on all sides,that still didn't deter my decision. I smirked as I walked past the expansive mirror stopping to adjust the little curls of black hair falling into my face.

These days,I was getting into the habit of paying much attention to my Lycan title and attending meetings as much as I can. Matters concerning the heart could wait.

As Alpha of the Lycan pack,I was devoted to my duties and sole responsibility of my father's dying wish. He had always wanted to rule peacefully over both Lycans and werewolves in a fair and just manner.

Unfortunately,he didn't live to fulfill his wish and so passed it to me. I was willing to carry out this wish as fast as I could,despite resistance from nearby werewolf packs.

In his words,ruling over both sides was to foster unity between us and ward off potential human intruders into the packs.

A knock on the door startled me as my beta called out my name.

"Desmond,come in"I said as I turned towards the door.

"Your majesty,all is set and we're ready to head out". "What direction are we to take?"

"We're heading north,your majesty"Desmond replied. "Very well then, shall we?" "Certainly "

We were heading to the werewolf community of starlit pack headed by Alpha Jacob. That was the last werewolf community we had to talk things over with and I could already sense victory.

Alpha Jacob's father and mine didn't see eye to eye on matters regarding their kingdom title.

His father believed werewolves were more to be recognized and that their presence should be well known for than that of Lycans. Mine believed there should be no comparison. All should be regarded as strong and formidable.

But that didn't matter to us sons. On few times I met Alpha Jacob,he sounded cool and respectful towards me.

We reached starlit pack quite early enough. I decided to tag along my beta,Desmond as he was more sensible and careful in his words than anyone I knew.

We passed gateways heading to Alpha Jacob's place. I could sense Desmond had something in mind to tell me and it pushed me to ask.

"What is it beta Desmond?"he jerked at the sound of his name. "Nothing really, just worried about your safety in carrying out this task."

"We can't be too sure about these werewolves,they might turn against you at the end"he sounded really worried and I could understand where his anxiety came from.
