Chapter 4 Blake

I was mingling with my parents, my dad's Beta, Jared, and his fiancée, Donna. Ms. Stevens was so overjoyed her daughter has come to visit. She knows that I have yet to find my mate and insists that I meet her daughter. I don't mind meeting her, but I hope Ms. Stevens won't think anything further than a possible friendship.

I smelled the sweet scent of chocolate chip cookies, when I turned around to meet Winter, I couldn't believe my eyes. She is stunningly beautiful. Long auburn hair and the most electric green eyes. She looked familiar. When we shook hands, a static charge shot up my hand and arm. Whenever Donna would mention her daughter, I would always feel butterflies in my stomach. As an Alpha, I never get butterflies. I never knew what those butterflies meant. Until, MATE, my wolf, Shadow, yelled while jumping up and down in pure joy. Our mate is stunning, Shadow continued. I swear his eyes were heart-shaped and popping out of his head like a cartoon character.

Yes, she is. Her mother's description doesn't do her justice, I told Shadow. Focusing back on Winter and her apologizing for the static shock, I shook my head and told her not to worry about it. "Tell me Winter, how are you liking our town so far?" I inquired. Her face lit up as she spoke about how beautiful our place is here and she hasn't seen anything like it. I know she is only here for a little bit, but I must convince her to stay.

The DJ started playing a slow song and I mustered up the courage to ask Winter to dance with me. "May I have this dance?", hopeful she will say yes. Her eyes lit up and her cheeks turned a light red, so cute.

"Sure," she said reaching for my hand. When she grabbed my hand again there was another static shock. "Oh goodness! I am so sorry, maybe it wasn't a good idea-" she started but I cut her off.

"It's okay, I promise," I started, "You look beautiful." she cheeks continued to redden at my compliment.

As we started dancing, I glanced over my shoulder and noticed my parents watching us. She's my mate! I said to both of them through our mind link. Once they heard me, both if their faces lit up. My father who had a drink in his hand raised it to me and nodded his head. My mother was so thrilled that she immediately turned to Donna and told her the news. Donna turned her head so fast, I was surprised she didn't end up with whiplash, smiling and I could have sworn I saw a tear in her eye.

"So tell me, Blake, what else is there to do it this town?" Winter asked. Goddess her voice was like sweet honey. I tried to hide my bulge growing inside my pants.

"Well, we have a huge lake that freezes during the winter months and everyone likes to go ice skating. We also have a Christmas festival that is open every weekend throughout the month. Do you like ice skating and festivals?", I hope she said yes because then I could plan at least a couple of dates with her before she left.

"I actually don't know how to ice skate, but I do love festivals. My dad would take me to them all the time when I was younger. I haven't been to one since he passed, so maybe I will have to check out the Christmas festival here."

When she said she had never ice skated before, I jumped at the opportunity to ask her. "I could teach you how to ice skate, if you want. It's not hard," I reassured her. When she nodded her head agreeing to go, Shadow howled with excitement.

Clink! Clink!

My dad clinked his glass getting everyone's attention. "Dinner is served. Let's gather to the dining area please." I looked at Winter who seemed to be looking for her mother. "May I escort you to the dining room?" She looked up at me and shyly nodded her head.

As we walked into the dining area, we spotted Donna and Jared already seated next to my father. I pulled out a chair for Winter and she cozily tucked herself in. "Thank you, Blake," she smiled and turned her attention to her mother. I nodded my head and walked around the table to sit next to my father.

My father sat at the head of the table and my mother sat at the other end of the table. I am so happy you found your mate, sweetheart. Though she doesn't know of our kind. Please don't rush her. You don't want to scare her off. My mother mind linked me, and I just smiled at her.

My best friend and beta, Jade, pulled up a chair next me. "Sorry I'm late, I was dealing with pac- ouch!" Jade started before I kicked him under the table so he couldn't say more. "What was that for, Blake?" he whined, while rubbing his shin.

"Jade, this is Winter, Ms. Stevens daughter," I told him with a stern voice. She's human remember? She doesn't know about us. Also, she's my mate.

As soon as I said those words, Jade straightened up and fixed his blazer. "It's very nice to meet you, Winter. Welcome to our...community." Man, I could just slap Jade. "It's a pleasure to meet you too Jade," Winter smiled her award-winning smile.

Dinner was served and it became eerily quiet. Thanks to my father for breaking the silence I got to learn more about Winter without asking her myself.

"So Winter, your mother tells us you're a student." The way my father pointed out her education career piqued my interest. I could tell Winter was a little taken back by my father's statement, "Why yes, I am. I go to the University in Georgia. But, I am planning on making a move." Now she's sparked my interest. Donna looked at Winter with a confused look on her face. Apparently she was taken by surprise as well by the news.

"What do you mean make a move? Do you not like being at the University?" Donna asked with worry in her voice.

Winter just giggled. Her giggled sounded like music to my ears, "Of course I do mom, but I have been thinking about moving back home." She finished by taking a sip of her drink and looking around as if she had said something wrong. Donna just put a hand over her mouth and with tears in her eyes. "Are you serious?" Donna asked hoping her daughter wasn't making a joke.

Just as Winter nodded her head excitedly, a loud commotion came from the foyer. I looked at my father who nodded at me to check on it.

After excusing myself from the table, I made my way to the foyer to see what happened. As soon as I turned the corner I saw her, my ex Lydia. "BABE!" she screeched when she saw me. I wanted to gag when I heard her voice.

"Lydia, what are you doing her? You were not invited." I used my Alpha tone on her because I knew she would make up some lie or some excuse. Ever since we broke up months ago, she has been acting as if we are still together.

"I am your girlfriend and future Luna. Of course, I'm invited." She scoffed as if I asked her a stupid question.

"I'm sorry Alpha, she just barged in. I tried to stop her," our head omega Dylan apologized. He looked as though I would yell at him. It's okay Dylan. I will handle it, I mind linked him. Dylan bowed and went on his way.

"Babe are you going to let him get away with how he treated me just now?" Lydia whined. I can not believe her right now. She's going to understand tonight that we are not together and we haven't been for the last few months.

"Lydia, you are not welcome here. This is a private party. You will leave. We are not together anymore, not after you're cheating and lies. You're lucky I didn't have you banished. Leave now because you are only making a fool of yourself." Lydia stomped her foot down and screeched. I turned around and walked back to the dining room because I was missing my mate and seeing her will calm me and Shadow down. I heard the front door slam shut and a car's tire burn rubber out of the driveway. I don't know what it was I ever saw in her.
