Chapter 11 Winter

I woke up to a text from Maddie saying she was on her way. I sent her a quick text telling her to come in and come upstairs when she got here then jumped out of bed and ran into my closet to put warm clothes on. I forgot to tell the guards at the gate about her arrival! I rushed through my bedroom and down the stairs to my shoes. The house was quiet so I assumed my mom wasn't home yet. I grabbed my purse and the car keys and ran out to the car.

I started the car and made my way to the gate. 20 minutes later and I saw a guard stop me. "Excuse me," I said to the guard, "I meant to tell you that I have a friend coming to visit me. Her name is Maddie Johnson." The guard held up his index finger indicating me to wait a moment while he went into the guard shack. Not even a minute later the guard came back.

"Alright Miss Stevens, apologies for the delay, I had to confirm her visit."

"No worries, thank you!" I shouted and turned around to head home.

When I got home the house was still empty.
