Sean went back to the office in a good mood. Fate had certainly intervened at the right time when he and Grace bumped into each other earlier. Once in his office, he changed himself into one of the many spare shirts he had in his office closet and he then asked his secretary Rachel to arrange for his stained shirt to be dry cleaned. Even though his shirt was custom made for him and was worth $5,000 per shirt, even if the stains could not be removed, he would not care. To Sean, bumping into Grace and the subsequent coffee date he had now set up with her, meant more to him than his shirt. His staff noticed his good mood and were relieved because it meant that they would be getting out of the office on time today.
“Mr Harper, the investigation you asked me to carry out regarding Grace Messi has been completed, here is the paperwork. I’ve read through it and something just doesn’t add up”, Lep told Sean with a worried look on his face. “What do you mean by that Leo”, Sean asked him. Leo had read the file that he had put together from his investigations on Grace, he didn’t know what, but something was amiss. “I’m not sure exactly, but once you read it, you may get the same feeling”, Leo replied to him. Sean wanted to get right into the file and start reading it, but he really had to go through his case files to review some evidence for an upcoming trial. “Very well, I’ll review the evidence for the Smithers court case and then I’ll review this file”. Leo nodded, “I‘ll leave it with you Mr Harper and by the way, I’ve emailed you a soft copy of the file as well to make it easier to read”, Leo said as he handed the file to Sean and left to get on with his own work.
A number of hours later, Sean had completed reviewing the evidence for the Smithers case. He then looked at the file on Grace that Leo had compiled and left behind for Sean. Rather than going through the hard copy, Sean opened the soft copy that Leo had sent him. At the top there was a beautiful photo of Grace. He put his hand on the photo that was on his laptop and just stared at it for a while. Sean then commenced reading the file. He read through it a few times, marking off some items of interest. It seemed that the first instance of her was when she just popped up in Greece just before she turned 16 years old. Before that, there was no record of any ‘Grace Messi’. She only stayed in Greece for two weeks and then headed to Italy for a few weeks, although exact location in Italy once she landed, was not traceable. After that she headed to California and by that time she was already 16 years old. In California, she not only purchased a run-down hotel, renovated it, sold it for triple what she bought it for, but she took university entrance exams at Stanford University. Her grades were exceptional, so when she sat for her entrance exam, she topped all the students that had sat for the exam by earning full marks.
She took on a 3-year business degree which she completed in 2 years. For the first year of the business degree, she attended classes on campus full-time whilst working on her hotels she was renovating and building with any spare time she had.
After the first year of her degree, she headed off to Sicily in Italy, but her exact whereabouts again was unknown. Whilst in Sicily, she continued her second year of her Business Degree online whilst occasionally flying back to California to attend Stanford University every few months for a week at a time for essential face to face classes. During her year in Sicily where she undertook most of her second and final year business degree mostly online, it was not known where she stayed or with whom she communicated with.
After completing her one year stay in Sicily, Grace returned to California where she not only completed her 3-year degree in 2 years, but she graduated top of her course and this was all against other students that were from anywhere 2-3 years older than her. She moved around and lived in different cities around Europe for a few months at a time and eventually landing in Boston 18 months ago where she set up an office and then making her way to Straco City just a few months ago.
There was no indication in the file of her family, where she was born, where she went to school before landing in Greece when she was nearly 16 years old. There were a few friends, work colleagues and interesting enough, there was a boyfriend by the name of Myles Lake in Boston, but that relationship seemed to have only lasted less than 4 months. “Miss Messi, you really are a mystery, what are you hiding? Why can’t we find anything on you before you were 16? Why suddenly pop up in Straco City when you had just started a new business in Boston 18 months earlier? What’s the secrecy in Italy that as soon as you land there each time, there is no trace of you? There’s nothing here about your family either”, he whispered to himself. There were too many unanswered questions.
Her Australian accent was a dead give-away that she was either born in Australia or at least spent most of her childhood and teen years in Australia, but nothing else was known. Re-reading the part about her topping her course, made Sean’s face beam at the fact that she was a high achiever. Sean then pondered on some of the points he had marked on his screen. There were certainly things that were amiss just like Leo had said. Sean knew she had secrets but how many and what they were he hoped that he would find out soon as every time he saw her, he felt that he wanted to spend more and more time with her. ‘Grace, I may not know all your secrets right now, but rest assured, I will find them out’, he thought to himself.
Sean’s pondering was interrupted by his mobile phone ringing. Glancing at his phone, he realised it was Claire calling him. After the day she came to his office professing she was his girlfriend and him rebuking her for making an untrue statement, he hadn’t heard much from her apart from a few text messages asking what he was up to and if he could come over and keep her company. Sean just wanted to keep the relationship clear. He only had gratitude towards her.Picking up the phone, he asked “Hi Claire, what’s up?” All he heard was Claire crying which made him stand up from his chair. “Claire, tell me, what happened?”, he yelled with a concerned tone. “I fell down the stairs, I think I have broken my wrist. Please take me to the hospital, it really hurts me.” With concern and exasperation, he calmly said to her, “Claire, calm down. I’ll get Leo to arrange someone to take you to the hospital right away. Leo could have someone there in 15 minutes. If you wait for me, it will be
As Sean drove into his office car park the next morning, he had to buzz security to let him into the car park as somehow, he had misplaced his security pass that he would normally swipe at the car park that would open the boom gate to let him in. He had already called Leo to arrange a new security pass and disable the previous one so that no one could access the building should they get access to it. At 7:50am, Sean was seated in the Café across the road from his building. It was a beautiful café with lots of light and planter boxes with flowers around the outside tables. Sean made sure that he got there early, he was not going to risk getting there late and having Grace walk away. It was 7:58am as Grace approached the café. As soon as she reached his table, he pulled out her chair and pushed it in for her before he sat back down himself. ‘He’s not only early, but also a gentleman’, she thought to herself. As he handed over the breakfast menu, he told her that he hadn’t had break
Grace made it back to her building. ‘What just happened there? Was that Sean’s girlfriend or a potential girlfriend that he has been courting? If so, why was he acting like he was interested in me? Was he hedging his bets? That girl was certainly not happy to see me with Sean, so maybe they are in a relationship. Oh dear, Sean is just like the other men I have dated. He’s a good for nothing liar trying to hit on a girl when he already has a girlfriend. I need to keep my distance from him’, she thought.During the coming days, Sean couldn’t take his mind off Grace and the staff knew well enough to. He was frustrated as he didn’t have her mobile number and wasn’t sure if he should go and see her at her work. Since she worked in the building next door, every time he left his building, he hoped that he would bump into her but that that never happened. He decided to call Carter to meet up with him for some words of advice. He couldn’t talk to Sebastian about this because he also ha
When Mara brought in the third bunch of flowers in the week, they were so big and wide she could hardly be seen behind them. “Someone wants your attention. I wish I had a boyfriend that gave me such magnificent bunches of flowers”. As the bunch was so big, they had to be put into three separate vases. Grace reflected on the cards that Sean had written. She didn’t want to be a third wheel in his relationship with Claire and Claire had made it abundantly clear that day to whom Sean belonged to. Grace was not looking for a romantic relationship with Sean, it was merely just starting to be a friendship. What if there was indeed a plausible explanation. At that moment, Grace decided to give him a chance to explain.Back in Sean’s office, Sean was in the middle of a Video conference call. Although his phone was on Silent mode, he saw a call coming in. As it was from an unknown number, he chose not to answer it as he was in the middle of a meeting. A few minutes later, his assistant L
Grace was utterly shocked with Sean’s revelation. So many thoughts were going through her mind, ‘How could this be? Should I tell him it was me that saved him? Maybe not. I don’t want him to feel like he owes me, but then again, he is being lied to and manipulated by Claire’. Just as she had so many thoughts going through her head, she saw Sean close his eyes tightly and rub his temples again. Grace realised that something was wrong. “Sean, Sean”, she called in a concerned tone. “Are you ok? Here, she grabbed onto his wrist and felt his pulse. So as not to raise any suspicion from the people in the Harper Group building lobby, she asked him to lean on her whilst she called Sean’s assistant Leo. Within minutes, Leo had arrived. “Leo, help me inconspicuously get Sean somewhere private. We need to get a Dr to see him immediately. In the few minutes that we have been seated on this Sofa, it appears that he has been having a headache”, she said to Leo. Sean opened his eyes and too
The next day, Claire received a video of this encounter outside the Harper Group building. She replayed it a few times and with each viewing, she not only clenched her fist harder but her anger also increased. Claire had paid someone to follow Sean for a few days a week for a few weeks whilst she got to know his routine. She couldn’t afford anymore with the money Sean gave her as it would cost more and there would be a bigger chance of Sean noticing. Claire received several videos a week of Sean going out to lunch, what he ate (so that she could lie and tell him she had the same taste in food), meeting his friends and even going to his Doctors for his appointments. Now for the first time, she was sent a video of this interaction with Grace and she was not pleased. ‘Looks like I need to try harder to get rid of this bimbo woman. How dare she go after my man’, she thought to herself. Claire knew where Grace worked. She didn’t know that Grace owned ‘Messi Group’, she had seen her
That night, Sean met up with Carter, Sebastian, Kiara and Tyra for drinks at ‘Blue Moon’ club. Sebastian had been away on a business trip where he signed a number of models over to his talent company and now had them assigned to the latest fashion show that was being brought to Straco City over the coming months. He also collaborated with Carter’s sister Kiara as some of her clothes from her fashion line would be paraded on the cat walk at that fashion show by the models from his company. One of the models happen to have been walking by and had seen Sebastian at the club. He had fine on a few dates with her in recent weeks but had been avoiding her in recent days. “There you are Sebatian, why haven’t you been returning my calls?”, she asked him. Sebastian had only just started to date in recent months but with the two dates he had with her, he found she didn’t have any substance but all she talked about was her looks and also enjoyed spending his money. Sebastian took her aside
With a determined and icy face, Grace stood up from her chair, turned around and marched over to the booth in the café behind where she had been sitting. There was a group of people sitting at the booth that were staring at her as she made her way over. Grace looked at the male closest to her, “Excuse me Mr Gibson but I did not ask you to pay for my meal, thank you but I can look after myself”. Grace then angrily slapped the money for her meal on the table in front of Sebastian, picked up her laptop bag and strode out of the café with her long curly hair bouncing around, whilst lots of people staring at her admiring her beauty and her curvaceous figure. (EARLIER THAT MORNING)Walking into the ‘Shore Café’, Grace spotted the same table she had sat at the last two times she came to this café. It was in a quiet area of the café, near the window facing the beach. Growing up near the beach in Sydney Australia, it was one of the things she missed the most about living there. Having the
