Chapter 38

RIFTAN POV

A loud boom filled the afternoon air, sending a rush of angry wind through the trees. Inara and I jerked our heads to where the sound came from before crippling panic settled in my bones.

The ground shook for a few more seconds before everything quieted to deafening stillness.

A small whimper fell off Inara's snout.

"Eden." I roared before ripping from the ground and charging to where the sound came from. Inara was a ball of swift fur on light paws as she matched my running pace her heart pounding with what tasted like fear and slight panic.

"Where is she? Can you feel her?" I said telepathically to my mate's wolf, hating the mere idea that something might have happened to her. The connection between us was so faint I wondered what the hell happened to her. And as much as I had exclusive access to her feelings about the mate bond- her wolf was a literal piece of her soul and the only thing that had answers to all my questions.
