Amber's pov
Working for Alpha Drake wasn’t that bad, he allowed me to start late so I could have breakfast with Elias and leave early so we could have dinner together. I only stayed longer when he had guests. I had most weekends off and I could take leftovers home.
Saturday mornings I trained with some other working moms, Elias often joined me and sparred with some of their kids. He was strong and could fend off kids twice his age, but I’d rather he stay a kid a bit longer.
Brian was usually sleeping off a bender in the mornings, but would join us for lunch most of the time. He wasn’t a great father, he was often gone for days at a time or he would smell of women and alcohol. But when he was sober and had a good day he would play ball with Elias or help me in the garden. I knew he tried and I saw how much Elias loved him.
Every so often I would see Brian stare at his own reflection and look at the mark Susan has left. It was one of the only things he had left of her, the mark and the necklace he bought Susan for their first date.
Brian and I decided not to mark each other, we aren’t in love and this way he could keep his old mark. If anyone asked we would tell them about his mate. Lying about Elias dad was easier when I didn’t have to lie about everything else. We told everyone that we met after his mate died and then we fell in love and I got pregnant with Elias.
I loved working in the garden with my hands, feeling the earth and seeing the flowers and vegetables grow. I even brought some to the packhouse sometimes and everyone loved them. The packhouse was next to Alpha’s house, we often had dinners at the packhouse and when Brian and I first got to the Crimson Moon pack we even lived at the packhouse. The packhouse was a safe haven for anyone that needed it.
I started working for Alpha Drake after Elias turned one years old and we got our own house with a small garden. Brian worked as a handy man in the pack, this way it wasn’t very noticeable if he slept in or was gone a night or two. He wasn’t cut out for a nine to five job.
My neighbor Casandra and her mate Thomas helped me babysit Elias whenever I needed help, honestly she was like a substitute mom. She always checked if we were okay and had enough to eat, she would buy presents for Elias and gave the best hugs in the world. She didn’t care for Brian though, but I couldn’t tell her how he saved me when I was pregnant.
She had three kids grown kids herself and was the proud grandma of five grandpups. She loved having kids around her, it was one of the best qualities of Cansandra, one I never saw in my parents growing up.
She helped me set up the garden and showed me how to care for plants. Cassandra taught me so much about gardening and now I have one of the nicest gardens in the pack. Elias loved to help me too, sometimes secretly stealing a tomato or some strawberries while I have my back turned. He had become quite the little gardener himself.
It was another random Saturday when I brought some extra cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots to the packhouse and some flowers to put in a vase. Suddenly I overhead some pack members talking.
"Did you hear there’s an Alpha visiting soon?" asked Lois.
Alex replied: "I heard he’s looking for his mate and he’s staying until the next full moon to find her."
"Who’s visiting?" I asked them out curiosity.
Both Alex and Lois couldn’t say, only that Alpha Drake couldn’t refuse, the visit would be next weekend and that he needed all staff available. I guess I would have to work overtime this week.
Luckily had Casandra been asking me for Elias to have a sleepover with one of her grandkids next weekend so the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.
At Monday the staff got the announcement, this weekend the Alpha of a rivalry pack would visit and he would stay until the full moon. The full moon would be in two weeks time. He would stay in the packhouse, because he would be bringing his Beta and some pack members. Honestly Alpha Drake had a big enough Mansion to accommodate them, but I think he wanted to keep them out if his house as much as possible. I wondered why, most visitors would stay in the guest suite at his house.
Suddenly my train of thought was interrupted when Alpha Drake entered the room. He looked at me and sighed before asking me to join him in his office.
We went upstairs and Alpha Drake closed the door.
"Amber, the reason I called you here is because of the Alpha that will be staying here for a few weeks."
I looked at him with a puzzled look. He never talked to me in private about any of the guests.
Alpha Drake continued, "I am sorry Amber. The Alpha who’s visiting this weekend is Axel.".
Flashback: Axel and I have had the best summer and I knew I shouldn’t, but I started to think about a future together. I knew his family would never accept me as his Luna so we had been secretly meeting all summer. After school we would meet at the lake and picnic on a field overlooking wildflowers. We would talk for hours, well we wouldn’t just talk. But who could blame me, have you seen Axel, he looks like a model. He’s build like a statue, with bright blue eyes and when the sun hits his hair it looks like every strand is made of gold. We would kiss until it was time to go home, but after a while that was not enough and he would sneak into my bedroom window at night. My parents didn’t notice, they hardly paid attention to me anyway. My bedroom was all the way at the back of the house near the forest, so it was easy to sneak in undetected. Being with Axel was lovely, even though we knew it couldn’t last. Mates were chosen by the Moon Goddess and they would complement each other. I
Amber's pov "Did you hear me Amber? Alpha Axel Wensworth is the one who will be visiting us this weekend." I had heard Alpha Drake, but his words hit me like ton of bricks. Axel, someone I thought I would never see again, was visiting my pack. I was trying to push back the memories and the feelings of heartbreak that followed. I tried to contact Axel after I had found out about my pregnancy. We had been careful, using condoms every time. But during our last time, there was a tear in the condom. I was planning on getting the morning after pill, but the pack's gossip was in line behind me in the pharmacy. The next day Axel started to ignore me. I was so heartbroken that I didn’t even think of the condom until I started feeling nauseas. Abortion isn’t uncommon in the werewolf community, but in Alpha’s Alistair’s pack women didn’t have much choice and abortion was forbidden. I don’t know if it would have mattered if I had the choice, I knew what it felt like to be unwanted and Elias w
Amber's pov I felt numb the rest of the day, until I saw Elias playing in the garden with Thomas, Casandra's mate. The first time I met him I wasn’t sure how I felt about him, he was scary looking and build like a linebacker. But once I saw him with Cassandra and the kids I knew it was all bark and no bite. He was one of the kindest souls I ever met and would go to any length to keep his loved ones safe. I was so lucky he counted Elias as one of his bonus grandkids. Looking at my boy with a loving father figure nearly broke me, I tried to keep the dam from breaking before anyone would see. Unfortunately Casandra had already noticed something was off and quickly took me inside. "Tell me what’s going on, you can’t go to Elias looking like this. You need to calm down, tell me please so I can help you," Cassandra said. It wouldn’t hurt to tell her now, I thought to myself. It might come out anyway if I’m not careful. The more help I can get to hide Elias away the better. I told Casand
Amber's pov The next few days went by in a blur. Brian came back on Tuesday and I filled him in on the visit of Alpha Axel. He suggested to leave for the weekend, Axel might recognize him as well. He couldn’t stay away for the whole two weeks, but that first weekend would be most important to skip. Usually when Alpha Drake had guests, he would invite them over to his Mansion for dinner and would show them around town the next day. I guess Brian was scared of what Axel might do if he found out he’s been living with the Alpha’s ex and their secret love child. Brian had helped me when I needed it the most, but he was not a brave or strong man to be honest. Years of using alcohol to numb his senses, made him slow and he skipped out on training most days. He wouldn’t stand a chance against an Alpha. I actually felt relieved, not having to worry about Brian this weekend. My mind was busy enough with worries and thoughts about my old pack.Suddenly it was Friday night, the day before Axel,
Amber's pov I woke up after having slept barely a few hours. I was unable to forgot about the events of last night. Who was the mystery wolf and would he tell someone what he saw? I couldn’t focus on this right now, Alpha Axel and his pack would soon arrive and I needed to help get the Mansion and packhouse ready. We needed to set up all the rooms at the packhouse, fill the pantry and I brought some of my fresh vegetables and fruit. We needed to decorate the dinning room in the Mansion and make preparation for Dinner that night. I started at the packhouse, making sure each room looked nice. Alpha Axel was bringing his Beta and the Beta’s mate. Plus his Delta and some security. When everything looked great in the bedrooms in the packhouse, I went downstairs to head to Alpha’s mansion. I heard noises coming from the kitchen, people talking very seriously. Suddenly I smelled Eucalyptus and Sandalwood, I turned my head slightly trying to sneak a peak at the person that smelled so nice.
Axel’s point of view. Was that Amber? No it couldn’t be! I had been trying to follow the scent of the wolf I met last night. She smelled like wild flowers. Later that day I smelled it again, while meeting with Alpha Drake at the packhouse. We were early, we stayed in a horrible hotel on the other side of the forest and I couldn’t stand being there any longer. The food was horrible, the matras lumpy and dirty. And when I couldn’t sleep, I let my wolf out for a run. That’s when I noticed the other wolf, it was big but my wolf wasn’t scared. He just wanted to play and tackled her to the ground. Sometimes happened with the wolf's fur, it glowed. It looked magical. I instantly wanted to know more about it. I apologized to Alpha Drake for our early arrival, but once I explained the state of our hotel, he understood perfectly fine why we couldn’t stay there any longer. Alpha Drake was often mentioned in one of dad’s rants. He was the type of Alpha dad hated, he was too soft and kind and le
Chapter nine: Amber’s pov: "Amber?! Is that you?" Alpha Axel asked, a shocked look across his face. "I’m so sorry to bother you, I will leave you alone. I know you don’t want any contact, so I will head home now Alpha Axel," I mumbled very quickly and almost ran to my house. Leaving a stunned Alpha standing there. I knew I could have handled this better. It was kind of low to mention his last note. Five years had gone by, he probably had enough to deal with without worrying about me. I made myself some chamomile tea to calm my nerves and help me sleep when I heard a knock on the door. Before I could open it I saw a note being slipped under the door. I picked up the note and carefully read each word: "Amber, would you be willing to meet me for lunch tomorrow at the packhouse? A." Axels point of view: I slipped the note under the door and quickly left. I noticed she had a swing on the right side of her garden and lots of vegetables and flowers on the left side. I planned on aski
Amber’s pov I didn’t sleep well, tossing and turning in bed. I had read the note so often I had memorized every word. When I woke up I took a shower and headed to Cassandra’s house. Elias was so happy to see me, he was hugging me and jumping around. I had missed him too, even if it was just for two nights. I asked Cassandra if she could come over in a bit, because I needed her advice. Elias was on the swings, while we sat on the bench outside. I told Casandra of the note and what had happened last night. "I think you should give him a chance. He might have changed. He’s an Alpha now, so he might just want to make sure there are no hard feelings about the past. Or perhaps he has questions about why you left, you told us you didn’t tell anyone that you were leaving and where you were headed right?" Casandra always had a way of calming me down and asking the right questions. I explained, " I just don’t want him to feel obligated to have me be a part of his life, because of Elias. He
Amber’s pov The End It’s has been five years now, since Axel was kidnapped by Beatrix. There have been some minor setbacks, but we’ve mostly been able to come to an agreement with the witches. Some of the witches of Willa’s coven have even helped us throughout the years, by protecting our borders and offering healing salve for our member’s who aren’t eighteen yet. I love how Axel has kept his principles through all this, even though he was met with so much resistance from the werewolves in the beginning. It’s hard changing people’s mind, when they are so used to their prejudices. But Axel had done it before, by changing his pack to be more inclusive. Hunter is almost six years now and he is such a fun kid. Very outgoing and loves to be outside. He loves to play with his sister and baby brother. Yeah, you can say Axel and I have been busy. Our four year old Charlotte is really smart and loves to chase her brother around the room. Our baby is just three months old now, we named him De
Axel’s pov I woke up and checked the time, crap the trial had already started! I must have been tired from being injured, plus this morning didn’t help. Although I wouldn’t take it back for the world. Being with Amber was always worth it. I quickly got dressed and brushed my teeth. Luckily the courthouse was next to the hotel we were staying at. I mindlinked Amber while I was getting ready, “did I miss everything?” She summarized the morning for me, “Alpha Ivar blamed Finley for everything, saying he was under her spell. People were gasping when they heard she was a witch. He even knew about her trying to kill Elias. Then I testified and told them everything that happened that day. And that I had forgiven Finley after she had saved yours and my live.” I interrupted,“you forgive her?” Amber laughed, “is that so hard to believe? I am not forgetting what happened, but I need to forgive her for Finley and Elias to be able to move forward. I want to be a part of their lives, if Finley
Amber’s pov We waited in Beatrix’s house, trusting Elias was doing his best to stop a fight from happening between us. Zoey and Matt were getting restless and Axel was getting his strength back and sitting up right. I felt guilty for assuming Finley was betraying me so easily. It didn’t take long for me to go back to mistrusting her, even after she had saved me from Alpha Ivar. It had been too hard for me to think about forgiving Finley for hurting Elias. “But hasn’t she done enough to prove she has changed? Finley saved you and now she saved Axel, without any regards for her own life. Do you really want to stand in the way of Elias being with his mate?” Ripley asked me. “You are thinking about Finley and Elias aren’t you?” Axel mindlinked me. “How could the Moon Goddess choose someone who had hurt him so deeply?” I replied. Axel told me what had happened in the house, how angry and hurt Finley was by her grandmother. “You don’t understand Amber, I don’t think she had much of a c
Axel’s pov I woke up tied up next to Omar in a small house. An older woman was standing in front of us. She wasn’t looking at us, but at someone else who had entered the house. I couldn’t turn my head enough to look at her, my whole body felt weak. But I recognized the voice from somewhere. “Jade you came back” the old lady said. “My name is Finley and I am not here for you grandma. I am here to get Alpha Axel and his gamma back.” That’s why I recognized the voice, it was Finley so that meant the old woman was Beatrix. I tried to talk, but my body was to weak. Beatrix walked to Omar and grabbed the iron chains around his arms. She pulled him by the chains to the middle of the room. She was strong for an old woman. I tried to turn my head again, this time slowly and I could see Beatrix and Finley standing over Omar. Finley wasn’t dressed and had probably just shifted back. “What are you doing Grandma? Just let them go, we can talk about this.” Beatrix started to laugh, “talk about
Amber’s pov I had just arrived at the location of the courthouse and was greeted by Elias, Zoey and Finley. Finley and Elias both looked tense and like they needed a good night’s sleep. Preferably not together, because I still didn’t fully trust Finley. Her hair had grown over the last few months and she had put on some weight, but her face still showed how much she had gone through. “Hi mama, are you ready for the trial?” Elias asked me as he gave me a hug. I had mindlinked Axel on the way over and he had told me about the fires, which still had me worried. “Actually I’ve been busy stressing over your father on the drive over. He’s taking too much on. There was a fire in the forest and now he is tracking the source in the woods with Omar. He has people who can handle that, but he always wants to be hands on” I told Elias. Elias laughed, “just like you mama. It’s not like you ever sat back and let other people handle anything.” I frowned and playfully hit Elias on the arm. He was
Axel’s pov’ Amber was right, we did need to prepare for the worst. So I contacted every ally and let them know to up their security. I told them there was a group of witches that had plans to potentially hurt werewolves, but that not all of the witches were bad. That last part was tough for most Alpha’s to except. Witches had always been our enemies and even when I explained about dark and white magic, they still didn’t trust any of them. “The only witch I trust is a dead witch,” was one Alpha’s remark. I understood where they were coming from. Our ancestors had fought against witches for years, but I truly believed you couldn’t just assume every witch was evil by default. There are bad witches, bad werewolves and bad humans. But that means there must also be good witches. I believed Willa when we talked and she had done nothing to help me. I would much rather have a friend than an enemy, but I was pretty mild tempered for an Alpha. I think that’s what Amber liked about me, but it
Amber’s pov I love having Hunter around, but every time I see that little face of his I am reminded of Charlotte and I wish I could have stopped Alpha Ivar. I have killed men for less, but I understand what Elias wants to do with his court system. It’s important for him to have people be accountable and that every werewolf can see that. Since I was in the dungeon with Alpha Ivar, I can’t help Elias in the trial like we planned, I can only testify. So now I am focused on raising Hunter and Briana and being the best Luna I can be. I go to training every evening so that can get Ridley some exercise and I can practice my fighting skills. I want to be able to defend myself against anything, even though Kenzo said I already am at the top of the class. Things with Axel have been good, but I can sense and see that he is stressed out about the whole witch thing. I think he tries to do it all himself, because he doesn’t want to bother me. But last night I finally got him to share what has been
Axel’s pov Luckily both Elias and Finley accepted my proposal, Elias took Finley with him on his travels after she had fully healed. Now that I learned more about Finley’s grandmother I really needed to find that prophecy somewhere. I was pretty sure it wouldn’t be in any of the books we had, but if I could find this Willa perhaps she could help me. I reached out to all my allies, letting them know if they could help me track her. I mentioned to them that she wasn’t to be harmed, they should only let Willa know if she could contact me as soon as possible. I then mindlinked Amber and asked her how Hunter was doing. He had been with us for a couple weeks now, but I couldn’t imagine life without him. What I could imagine is sleeping ten full hours with Amber by my side or even better feeling Amber on me. But sadly there was no chance of that right now, Hunter has been so clingy even at night. I think he might have gotten very little attention at the orphanage and was scared we wouldn’t
Axel’s pov I came looking for Amber and Charlotte and I ended up having a son. That’s not something you just get used to. But I think Amber and I both forgot how much work a baby is, so we barely had the time to adjust. Hunter seemed to favor me. Which was fine, but I still had my responsibilities as Alpha. Logan offered to step in for a while, but his son was the same age as Hunter. In the end we found a solution, baby-carrying seemed to work like a charm. Amber carried Hunter most of the day, while I took care of some work. I had another lead on the witches, the girl Jade, that Elias brought home, much to Amber’s dismay. Jade now wanted to be called Finley, her real name. I guess she wanted a fresh start and live truthfully, but neither Amber or I trusted her. But I needed Finley’s help, I knew nothing of witches. If she could provide me some insight, I could finally decide if the group that lived nearby was friend or foe. And once I was finished with my research, Finley could go o
