CHAPTER 113

HAZEL'S POV;

For almost a week, Zion visited with food and drink. So did Earl. Though Theresa's visit dampened, she still dropped by once in a while.

I wasn't used to this place but I knew I could survive these conditions. I knew I could live here. I found every purpose to live because I had a lot ahead of me. I had a child to take care of.

Somehow, my baby gave me the fortitude to go through this. With the child, I knew I could do anything. I felt this sense of protection whenever I thought of the baby in my belly. It made me fee a new dawn of hope. Maybe one day, we were both going to be out of here and away from the palace where he would know nothing but happiness. Misery wasn't going to be near him.

I leaned back against the wall and for the first time since I was thrown in here, I smiled.

I sat up immediately and I heard the shuffling of footsteps. Whoever it was better come bringing good news. I sat still, hearing my heart beat erratically

As I walked through the corridors, I heard the maids talk about it and no matter how he'd j tried, I knew I couldn't ignore the fact that she was back. Whenever I walked through the corridor, all I could feel was her presence. It was thick in the air and hard for me to avoid. I bumped into Theresa on my way to the dining room. She stopped for a moment, staring at me like she had something to say. But she thought against it and shook her head. She made to walk past me but I grabbed her by the hand and stopped her. "I know you want to say something. What's it?" She shook her head. "I have nothing to say. Or do you want me to say something?" She asked and raised a brow at me in askance. I shook my head and sighed. "Not at all." She pulled her hands off mine gently before walking away. I sighed and walked into the dining room. I knew she was going to join in soon and as I took a seat, all I could do was

CHAPTER 115 HAZEL'S POV; I wonder what Onyx expected after locking me up for weeks in that dungeon. Run to him and give him a hug, appreciating him for finally releasing me after believing a lie that had been cast on my head? Or did he expect me to smile at him and tell him my experience in that miserable place? Did he expect me to run into his arms and cry, telling him how much I missed him and his touches? He would be delusional to think I was going to spare him a glance after everything he had done to me. This was the last straw that broke the horse's back and I was ready to ignore him till I was able to get out of here. I was quite strong for a pregnant woman, seeing that I was able to help Earl to the drawing room and help him take a seat on the couch. Once he was seated, I heaved a deep breath in relief. "Can you heal or do I get someone to get you treated?" "Uhm, no. It's fine. I'm fine here. I just need to rest and go on my way,"

CHAPTER 116 THERESA'S POV; I noticed how happy she was to be here. I shared her joy. She didn't care about the stares she was getting. All she did was chatter and I listened to her. "Do you know it's been months since I came outside? I feel like a bird that has been let out of its cage," "If I am going to be honest with you, Onyx really locked you up in there. He really did. You've seen enough. Maybe now is your time to bloom." "Bloom? That's a fancy word for someone who has experienced what I have experienced, you know?" I nodded at her and slipped my arms into her. We walked through the market street. "Everyone is staring," "I realized," Hazel whispered. "I am trying not to let it get to me. I don't want to care if they're staring at me, you know?" I nodded at her. "Of course, I do." We stopped in front of a stall and I bought apples. "Sometimes, I forget that you have your own home and aren't living in the servant's quarters," I smiled

"Over here," Theresa called out when I got to the living room. I turned and found her turning a cup of coffee on the counter. She lifted her hands and handed the cup over to me before pushing a plate of toast to me. I smiled and looked at her. "Really?" "You need to eat something. I am sure you didn't eat enough with Onyx at the dining table with you," I nodded. "I couldn't. He was just so annoying and I couldn't stand him," "He can be like that at times," Theresa said but she looked distracted. "Do you know why they're fighting? Earl and Onyx. He shouldn't be so mad that he visited while still in the dungeon. I was hungry and without food. If you two hadn't come to

CHAPTER 118 HAZEL'S POV; I have never been so happy to be back home without the fear of being looked for by anyone. Zion is here and I can feel the warmth of family. As for Theresa, I see how she's looking at Zion's new friend. With admiration. He's a fine fellow. Tall, fair hair, green eyes when he draws near. I don't think any woman can resist him. I need to do something. "You're all smiles. You look happier for someone who just got released from that godforsaken dungeon," Zion says as we walk to the porch. I am smiling because of Theresa. She needs to talk to Trenton and I think she'd need my help. "Hey," I whispered into Zion's ear as soon as we got into the house. Theresa is behind us with Trenton trailing far behind. "I need to talk to you about something in private," "What could that be?" I pull him by the hand, leading him towards the kitchen. "Your new friend, he looks older than you," "Obviously it is," Zion shrugs. "He's one of

CHAPTER 119 THERESA'S POV; Since Earl, I don't think I have talked to another man or showed interest. I couldn't lie to myself that I was immediately attracted as soon as I saw his six foot three frame standing in front of the wooden gates. I couldn't ignore his good looks. I mean, good looks aren't everything. I didn't want to dwell on his handsomeness and the fact that he was the god's gift to women and that was what made me turn away from him. With his looks, he could pull any woman and most men reveled in it by having multiple women and mistresses and she didn't want to be among the bevy of ladies going after him. She might be man starved but she still had some pride stashed somewhere at the back of her mind and she wasn't going to even show any interest in him. But this hadn't gone past Hazel's eyes. She had seen it all and she had told it to Zion and they had both planned. She didn't want to do this but when Trenton turned to search for her before

He was all sweaty from carrying the dead animal and I kept my eyes away from his sweated shirt that had somehow gotten plastered to his body. "Yes, I do. He goes hunting with me but today, I let him stay because he got injured," It was a German Shepard with a white and black coat. It was quite large and once it saw its owner, it fell on its forelegs and whined, its tail wagging. But as soon as he saw me, his fierceness returned and he began to bark again. "Jake!" Trenton snapped and he kept quiet immediately, going back to whining. He hurried to his master and once Trenton dropped the game on a large table in front of his house, he patted the dog and rubbed on its fur. I noticed it kept looking a

"Of course." I didn't miss the look on Earl's face. As soon as he heard Trenton's name, his expression darkened and he stared at Theresa for a long time but she didn't seem to be interested in whatever he had to say. As soon as she left, I took the flowers from Earl's hand and brought it to my nose. It was a bouquet of white carnations. One of my favorites. I looked up at him and caught him frowning and lost in thought. "You good, Earl?" He snapped out of his thoughts and looked at me, a smile filling his face. He nodded. "Of course. I am fine. I just got into my head," "I love the flowers, Earl. I must

Theresa nodded and went ahead to pull out a seat. She took a seat and stared at me. "I'd rather you took your seat," Nodding, I pulled out a seat. "I hope you're not here to tell me something that'll make me worry? I think I've had enough drama for today," "It's not a lot that I want to say, Onyx. I just want to tell you that I am really happy you're coming to terms with everything changing," I leaned back against my chair and stroked my chin. "Theresa, I am really overwhelmed. Squealing in delight, I fell back flat on the bed and smiled. A knock sounded on the door. I sat up immediately and stood to my feet. Twisting the knob, the door opened. Onyx stood there. I was taken aback but I let him in anyway. He looked really dull and like he needed a hug but I stepped back and maintained my position, my hand behind my back. "You're well, aren't you?" He asked when he stopped in the middle of the room and looked around. "Yes, I am," I replied with a nod. He said nothing for the next few moments. He busied himself with checking the window to be sure the locks were intact. I stood there, watching him with slight surprise. Why was he doing all these? "What's going on?" I finally asked. He turned to look at me. "I want to be sure the locks are intact

CHAPTER 130 ONYX'S POV; I drove into the palace, shaking with anger. Seeing Hazel had released something in me. All the pent up anger and hatred had come flowing out of my whole being and I didn't want to see her close to me at all. Once I parked my car, I pushed the door open and shut it with a thud. I walked straight into the palace. The Priest stood in the middle of the great room. A lady dressed in a cloak stood behind him, her head bowed low. I stopped before him. "It's a surprise to see you here after such a long time. I hope you have come with great news concerning the recovery of my parents?" He looked at me with obvious displeasure and took a step towards him. "That is not why I have come here, Alpha Onyx," "Is something wrong?" "Terribly. And for the fact that you have been aware and hiding it. It's terrible," . "What are you talking about?" "Have you forgotten? It's so funny how you tend to forget things because you force yourself t

CHAPTER 129 HAZEL'S POV; It felt beautiful to be running with so much speed past trees and vegetation. I moved with the breeze, feeling free. I had shifted and I revelled in the strength it came with. It's speed and great hearing ability. So this was how it felt to be a wolf? This was how amazing it felt to have a wolf. I thought back to my brother and how he was going to be so shocked and filled with excitement as he shifted. And that made me change my course. I had been running towards the blood river which was the southern part of this lake but I made a side turn, going southwest. I ran for such a long time, going only through the forest as I knew it led to the back of our cottage. While I was eager to go through the front door, I knew I had to go. Through the back. There was a possibility that it had already been found out that I wasn't in my room. I mean, it was midday already and Theresa would be worried. At least, I hadn't informed her. Still, I h

CHAPTER 128 ONYX'S POV; I had no idea where to start from. Today was going to be hectic but I didn't care. I needed to find her and the first place I went to was her home. No one was home. The gates were latched and locked but the fence was short so I jumped over it. There was a possibility that Hazel had locked it to keep anyone off, just like the way she had made a false body in her bed. As I walked towards the porch of the cottage, I felt a wave of nervous feeling wash over me. She better be there or I was going to lose my shit. On getting to the door, I twisted the door knob but it was locked. I tried a few more times before realizing that she was indeed not at him. Maybe she locked herself in? I knew keeping keys outside was one common thing so I lifted the floor mat. There was no key there. I looked around then I find a vase standing at the other side. I walked to it and looked around but there was no key. Parting the leaves of the plant

CHAPTER 127 ONYX'S POV; "Where's my wife?!" I thundered as I walked through the corridor. The maids stood there, watching with fear. I had gone to Hazel's room to check on her but her door was locked. I knocked several times but no answer came. I knew she couldn't ignore me for that long even if she was mad at me or hated me. Something was wrong. I asked one of the guards to climb up her window and look in only for him to find out that she was not in bed but an array of pillows covered with her duvet to make it look like she was asleep. Once it was reported to me that she wasn't in her room, I went into a full blown panic and asked all my guards to search for her. I was so afraid. A lot of things ran through my head. What if she had been kidnapped by Selah a second time? I knew they were capable of doing that. Or maybe she had run away. But with who? Earl? I sent one of my guards to check if she was with Earl but he returned with negative news and

I would have told Theresa about my movements but she has done something to really annoy me yesterday. Telling her would have put more risk to this as I didn't trust her so much. Before going to bed last night, I had planned on how my movement was going to be, taking notes of routes to go through and how I was going to return. She walked to the window and looked out. There were guards stationed at different points but she wasn't going to go through the palace gates. She went back to her bed and picked two pillows and arranged it on the bed to look like someone was sleeping on it. Then she raised the duvet and placed it over the pillows. As soon as she was done, she picked the keys to her room. She was going to lock it. The maid would find the door locked and think I am asleep and it would only be a matter of
