Alexa's POV
I run my fingers on the sparkly diamond necklace resting on my neck. It's a match to my outfit and my hairdo. My reflection in the mirror shows how radiant I look.
The complete opposite of what I looked like four years ago. Back then, I was just a poor, Omega high schooler, who got unlucky in love and got pregnant too.
I had a bleak future. The only thing I held onto was my will to survive and my Mother's love. And of course, my unborn baby. The bulging result of the passionate love I shared with Lucian.
Funny how four years later, I'm a radiant single mother, in one of the biggest Packs in the region, working as a personal assistant in a globally acknowledged company, under the direct supervision of the CEO. I own this mildly luxuriously furnished apartment. It's not huge. But it's very modern and comfy.
My life has experienced a chaotic change and I can't stop considering how lucky I am. For not giving up.
With a happy sigh, I grab my blazer and put it on, as a finishing touch of my outfit. Looking at the mirror one last time, I smile at my perfect work outfit.
Grabbing my bag, I was ready to exit my room and go downstairs for breakfast. But my buzzing phone makes me delay. I fish it out, checking the message.
An unsolicited smile sweeps through my face as I see that it's a text from Drake. In full, it's Alpha Drake Mckelly. The Alpha of Green Falls Pack, the present pack where I'm staying with my Mother and my baby boy.
Drake is also the CEO of the company where I'm working. He's my direct boss. And also, the one man who's been relentlessly wooing me for the past two years.
I click on the message.
Drake — Good morning, Sunshine. Can't wait to see your pretty face at the office.
So cheesy! I chuckle, leaving my room and taking the stairs, still grinning ear to ear as I punch in a quick reply.
Me — Good morning to you too. And isn't it too early to flatter me?
I get to the dining room and it's just Mother serving breakfast. She joins me as we sit, ready to dig into our sumptuous breakfast. Richie, my four-year-old son, isn't here yet. He's probably still in his room. With his nanny.
"Good morning, Mother." I greet, dropping my phone next to my plate.
"Good morning, dear." She replies in a sickly voice, coughing a bit.
That's right. She's sick. She went to see the doctor yesterday. But she's yet to tell me the outcome of her visit.
"How are you feeling now, Mother?" I ask, rubbing her hand that's lying on the table. "What did the doctor say?"
"He recommended that I get admitted to the hospital today for a close examination. So I'm sorry, but I can't watch over Richie."
"No, it's fine. You should take care of your health first. Richie can stay here with his nanny."
"You know he doesn't like staying with her. He always wants to be with me or with you."
"That's true." I think for a while and shrug. "Then maybe he can come with me to the office."
"Are you sure? Won't your boss get offended?"
Like on cue, my phone beeps again. "He won't," I reply, but not sparing her a glance. I take up my phone, grinning at my phone, reading Drake's reply to my message.
Drake – It's been two years and you still think I'm flattering you. What do I gotta do to show you how much I truly love you?
I pale a bit, and my heart flips at the word 'love'. I always think about a certain someone whenever I come across that word.
"Who is it?" Mother asks curiously, taking a sip of her tea.
"My boss, Alpha Drake," I reply, finally looking at her, with a mixed smile.
"Listen dear, I don't mean to intrude. But hasn't it been two years since he's been wooing you? Why don't you give him a chance?"
"Mother…" I drawl, not wanting to go into this conversation again. It never ends well.
"I know you had a lot of valid reasons for rejecting his proposal at the onset. But dear, those reasons don't matter anymore. You're stronger now. Healed too. Look at you, you're sparkling…"
I laugh at her words, feeling my eyes wet with tears.
"... you're every man's dream now. And so far, the perfect man for you is Alpha Drake. So why not give him a chance?"
"You're right. He's amazing, but…"
"But you don't love him?"
"Well, I think I do. Or I might learn to."
"But you don't wanna give it a try. Because of Lucian?"
My smiles vanish, replaced with a sting in the hollow of my heart. I can't answer her question so I just stay silent.
"You're still in love with him, right? And you're stubbornly holding on to that love and refusing to give any other good man out there a chance. And that's not fair."
"Mother, please. We promised not to mention his name here in the house. Because of Richie…"
"I know that. But…"
"Good morning, Mummy." Richie runs into the dining room and hugs me. Then he goes over to Mother and hugs her too. "Good morning, grandma."
"Good morning, sweetie." I quickly flash a radiant smile, regardless of the ache in my heart.
Richie is a beautiful combination of my features and Lucian's. But it's a good thing he got my eyes. It kinda gives me an unexplainable sense of pride.
"Good morning, sweetie," Mother replies, dishing out his breakfast.
"Baby, your grandma will be getting admitted to the hospital today. So you're coming to the office with me." I inform him as we eat our breakfast.
"Yippee! I'd love to. I miss Uncle Drake so much. I wanna see him again."
"You will, baby." I chuckle.
"He promised to take me around the Pack in his new car. I hope he hasn't forgotten."
"Well, you can remind him." I shrug. He has an impeccable bond with Drake. And if I ever consider accepting his proposal, it'd be more for my son's happiness than for mine.
"I sure will. He also promised to become my Daddy. I'll remind him about that too. I'll go grab my stuff, Mummy. Thanks for the food!" Richie excitedly hops down his chair and races up the stairs.
His words take turns spiraling in my head. Drake…. promised to be his Daddy? When did that happen? Why did he say that to him?
I look up to find Mother giving me a pointed look. I roll my eyes with a scoff.
"Don't say it, Mother."
"What? I wasn't gonna say anything." She shrugs innocently.
"Yes, you were. It's written all over your eyes." I stand, grabbing my bag. "Let me know when you get to the hospital."
"Alright, dear. Have fun at work." I go over and quickly hug her.
Minutes later, I arrived at the company with Richie. We both take the elevator to the third floor where Drake's office and mine are.
I get to his secretary's desk and flash her a smile. "Morning."
"Good morning, Ma'am." She smiles back, bowing slightly.
"Would you be so kind as to keep an eye on him for me?" I ruffle Richie's hair. "I need to have a quick talk with the boss first."
"Sure, Ma'am." She says, gesturing at Richie to come closer to her.
"Stay here, son. I'll be out in a few minutes."
"Okay, Mummy."
I head into Drake's office, shutting the door as I step inside. He's on a call, and laughing out loud.
He sees me and waves. Then he says into the phone. "Alright, dude. I'm waiting. Get your ass here quickly."
Then he hangs up and tosses the phone on his messy table of files, a laptop, a glass of wine and what have you.
"Good morning, boss." I smile, tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear.
"It hurts me when you're formal with me and you know that." He chuckles, placing a hand on his chest. "But I'll overlook that cause I wanna tell you something."
"Sure, what is it?"
"My friend, who is also our low-key biggest shareholder, is on his way here. He's already in the building. I want you to meet him."
"Uh, sure." I chuckle nervously. "But is it like a business meeting? Because I brought Richie to work with me…"
"Richie's here?" His eyes beam. "Where? Haven't seen that little rascal in a while."
"He's outside. With your secretary."
"What? Why keep him outside?" He asks, already heading out. I follow behind him. "Where is he?"
"He's…" my words vanish as there's no sign of him. His secretary has her head bowed shakily. My heart drops in panic. "Where's…my son?"
"He…he was right here. And then I turned and he was gone. I don't know where he went."
"What?!"
Lucian's POVA disgruntled sigh puffs through my lips as my phone starts buzzing again. I take it out of my pocket just to confirm if it's who I think it is. And I'm right. It's her. My frustrating chosen mate, Letty. It's just been two hours since I left our Pack but her annoyingly clingy ass won't stop calling my phone. Just a few seconds ago, I got off the phone with Drake. She was calling all through but I wasn't about to cut short my conversation with Drake just because of her.And now, she's calling again. Trying to drive me nuts with her persistent calls. Getting into the elevator, I swipe to the receive button to finally hear what it is she has to say. But I think I know what all this is about. She didn't want me to come here alone. She'd been whiny about my plans of coming here and had insisted I take her along. I refused. So I'm sure this is all her way to frustrate me."Why do you keep calling me?" I snap, the second I take the call. "Why won't you let me have a little b
Lucien's POVI’m tongue-tied as I stare at her. All the memories come rushing in like a flood. Every single moment I spent with her, “Alexa?” My voice is barely above a whisper, so no one hears me.“Trevor,” she calls out to him lovingly, clutching him tightly to her chest, “Why do you always make me worry?”I remember that voice, heck, I would remember it any time. I had slept to the sound of that voice, I had heard that voice multiple times in my dreams.“Mommy...”“I was worried sick,” she kisses him fervently all over, her eyes scanning his body for any injury.“You don’t have to worry, mama. This uncle helped me...” he gestured at me with his fingers. All their attention turns towards me, and now I’m staring into those bluish-grey eyes. It’s like standing beside the ocean, it was mesmerizing. They were the most beautiful pair of eyes I had ever seen, eyes I would never forget. Her beautiful blonde hair was tied atop her head in a messy ponytail. There was a flash of recognition i
Lucien’s POVI didn’t realize how hard I was gripping the table until I heard the wood split in two and cave in under the weight of my hand, splinters sticking out.Drake stares at me, a shocked look on his face. “Are you alright?”I glance at my hand gripping the table and look up at him. “Yes, I am,” I am shocked by my own reaction. “I’m okay,” I pull away and put my hand behind my back.Drake looks at me with uncertainty in his eyes. “Are you sure?”I nod. “Yes, I’m sure. I just didn’t know how hard I was gripping it,” I answer. “I was too engrossed in your explanation, I had no idea...” I trailed off.Drake nods. “That’s alright, I’ll just call for another one.” He is silent for a while, so I assume he’s mind-linking someone.“Carry on,” I urge him, pulling out a chair across from him. Maybe if I was seated, I’ll be more in control of my emotions. “It was pure excitement.”Drake nods in understanding. “So...”“Alexa,” I remind him, maybe a little bit too eagerly. If he realized it
Lucien’s POVMy eyes are fixated on her as she walks across the length of the room. I am gawking at her full legs, her shapely curves accentuated by the snug-fitting dress she had on. She sticks her nose in the air, a stiff smile on her lips as she walks past me, carefully averting her gaze. I notice her slightly red eyes and nose, my heart breaks at the thought. The thought that I hurt her, the thought that I broke her heart, makes me feel a pang of guilt in my chest. All I want to do is gather her up in my arms and apologize. I want to feel her pressed up against me, being in the same room and not getting any single attention from her is maddening.“Alexa,” Drake calls out to her affectionately. “How is he?”She shrugs. “He had to listen, rephrase that I had to make him listen to my warnings. So there’s a fifty percent chance he won’t wander off on his own again.”Drake chuckles lightly. “That is Trevor all right. We need round-the-clock eyes on him.”“Right? I have safely tucked hi
The words hang in the air between us, and I can tell he's using his alpha tone. The tension in the air is thick, and I realize I'm holding my breath. I hate it, the nerve of him to bark out orders to me like I belong to him, or like I'm part of his Pack. The rejection stings even harder now that I think about it.I clear my throat dramatically, tucking my hair behind my ear. I glare at him, but his expression remains unchanged. I subtly hint at him to step away, but he doesn’t move an inch. He completely ignores me, staring down at me, his eyes never leaving mine.Drake looks between the both of us in confusion. I can see it in his eyes, and in that moment, I can’t help but wonder what he’s thinking. Of course, he's not dumb, he probably has noticed the tension in the air between us, not to leave out Lucien who is ogling me like I'm his favorite dessert.I know I have to salvage the situation. Drake is already suspicious, and I don’t want him to figure it all out. If he knows, that me
Alexa’s POVLucien grabs my arm. “We need to talk, Alexa...”I fling his arm off of mine. I’m about to say something in anger when I see Trevor walk in sleepily, his nanny not far behind. She looks at all of us curiously, as if sensing the tension in the room. She averts her gaze. “Um...hi. He just woke up, he was calling for you.” She retreats and shuts the door.“Mama,” he calls out to me in a groggy voice. I grab my purse and crouch, waiting for him to come into my arms.As he walks up to me, he spots Lucien standing in the corner. He walks up to him instead and hands him the candy in his hand. It's hard to conceal the disappointment on my face as I watch them.“Take this,” he outstretches his little hand towards him. Lucien crouches in front of him, and in that moment, I can't look past their similarities. Their black hair, bluish-grey eyes, boyish smile...Lucien takes it from him. “Thank you so much, Trevor. Why are you giving me candy, though? It’s not my birthday yet.”Trevor g
Lucien’s POVI watch with slouched shoulders and sad eyes as the car drives off, feeling an emptiness in my heart much bigger than when I set out. I wanted to be with her and her son, everything felt right about that. I stare off into the distance until the car disappears from sight. Then my phone buzzes in my pocket, pulling me from my thoughts.I pick it up, “Hello,” I say in a flat tone, a bored look in my eyes.“Lucien...”I sigh and massage my temples, “What is it, Letty?” It was bad enough that I had to deal with her every day at home, but having to endure her unnecessary attitude even when I was miles away was exhausting.“Lucien, I’ve been trying to call you all day. You weren’t picking up your phone,” she says in a whiny voice, which seemed especially whiny today, or maybe I was just irritable.“I was at a meeting, Letty. An important meeting I told you about before I left the house. The same one I explicitly told you I didn’t want to be bothered at...”“Babe, I can’t help bu
Lucien’s POVI freeze at first at her words, my mind digs through all my memories, but nothing comes up. Pregnant? It was absurd. “You’re lying, Letty. You’re not pregnant!” I say in a harsh tone.“I am pregnant, Lucien,” her voice is strong and unflinching. “I am carrying our child in my womb, Lucien.”I scoff, “I haven’t touched you in a long time, Letty. We’ve gone long months without sex. If you think you’re pregnant, you may want to think harder about who the father may be.”She grows quiet all of a sudden and then in a really small voice, “We made love to each other a month ago,” she confesses.I have no memory of it. Letty and I haven’t been intimate for a longer period of time than was normal for a couple living together.“It was really hot sex...” She chuckles as if stifling a blush, “You were like a stallion starved, you turned me in many ways than I could count. It was long, passionate all night...”“Stop it, Letty,” I interjected sharply. “That’s e...” and then I recalled
The men come back again to my cell still in arguments about on whether to harvest my organs Or not. Earlier the other man had spotted my pack sign and informed the masked man of which pack I belonged to and it would be a problem if it was later traced back to them. He informs him of how dangerous it would be to their operations if they were to have a run in with the other pack and suggest they let me go so as to avoid any problem in the near future.“Do you know we are already running short on our deliveries this month and you want to let one go? An expensive one at that. If we get this one it’ll be worth ten others and that would be enough to spare us from the big Boss wrath this month. I know you clearly remember what Hal the last time we failed him” The masked man turned to his companion and he looked awayI had a suspicion as to why they were putting on masks and I guess it had something to do with their punishment. I wanted to feel bad for them but they had taken countless of liv
I wake up with a banging headache and the metallic taste of blood in my mouth. I can feel it ran down my face and was roughly treated. The room is dark and it does not look like there is any light in view and I struggle to recollect what was the last thing that happen. It comes in bit and pieces. I remember being on a call with Amaya and then I remember flipping and losing the phone. Next thing I remember is being lifted and dumped and the back of a truck and it all went dark. As the last memory comes in I call out for help and no one answers me. I call out a few more times and no one answers me.I think back to home and how I left things recently contacted Amaya and Trevor is with her. Trevor. I remember that I have not beards from my son in a long time and by now he will be worried and here I am in a dark room that I don’t know where I am. I call out for help so more and the calls turn into screams as no one seems to respond m. I let out an ear piercing scream which echoes of the wa
It takes a lot to convince Amaya to take care of Trevor and make sure the boy is comforted and isn’t suspicious of his mother’s disappearance. It’s going to be a big job as I know that Trevor is a really smart kid and it’s not going to be long before he starts asking the right questions about his mother and when he does not get the right answers he is going to start getting suspicious and worried. It’s already been a day since he heard from her last and it’s already been too long for him.I also plan on talking to him to get him relaxed a bit and might even go see him to comfort him in person to distract him all of this in midst of making plans to get his mother back home. It’s all he can think of at the moment. We all gather in the room making calls and plotting to get her back. Everton has a contribution from Cole, Drake and Elena even chips in occasionally. Amaya is one a call with Trevor trying to do her best to make him not suspect what is going on. From the distance he can see h
“What do hell do you mean by that Amaya” I asks again and she turns to face Drake for an explanation.Drake keeps his head down in shame and I’m so close to losing my cool with him if he does not start speaking.“Drake if you don’t start speaking I swear to God that I’m gonna…”“It was yesterday and I needed to go for a meeting out of town but decided against it and needed a representative so chose Alexa to go represent me at the meeting…”The more Drake talks it becomes clearer that sending Alexa out was all a rouse to get her out of town so I would not see her as they concluded the deal. I can’t believe that he would do this sort of reckless thing just to keep her out of sight from him. The more I listen to him the more I want to break his stupid face.He finishes and no one says anything about it. Cole looks away not wanting to be involved and from his actions I know that he was clearly against this but was ignored so he’s leaving him to carry his cross.“You claim you love her but
Authors POVDrake is restless as he has not heard from Alexa in over a day and tries calling her but it keeps going to voicemail. He wonders why she didn’t call when she arrived but then again thought could he blame her. After all she did not want to go and he made her go for this so it only makes sense that she would not want to talk to him. He paces around his room unable to get some sleep and is filled with regrets as to how he acted towards he. He thinks that he should have been a more matured person and not let petty rivalries get in the way of their relationship. He is lost in thought of how much of a good person she has been and how she navigates the struggles of being a single mother. He thinks about Trevor also and feels guilty, at a time she would have brought Trevor for him to look after and now he does not even know where Trevor is as she is away which is also his fault. He tries calling again one last time and it goes to voicemail.“Alexa when you get this I want you to k
Author's PovAmaya was really excited to watch Trevor and I could understand that, he could be sweetheart but when she tried to inquire about my situation I have to deflect it and ask about her and her family, what she had been up to and work. I know that it does not make up for the lost time and how I handled things but I’m glad that we could do this right now. She tries again to inquire and I know that I can’t keep deflecting what happened for too long.“So how is your boss?” Amaya asks“He is doing okay” I reply lightly“Is he the one sending you on this errand?”“Yes he is, but it’s a really important meeting and he’s sending me to handle it. I guess he trusts me that much and I won’t let him down”.“He must really be a good man for you to really want to deliver this for him”“He is…”We both end say our last and I tell her that I’ll see her in a bit while I put together my things and have to go get Trevor’s things and also talk to him about my journey for the next few days. It’s
Authors povDrake tells Cole about how much he likes her and how hurt he felt there last week with Lucien all over her trying to make her his girl. Especially with the negotiations going on and trying to make her part of the deal.“See Cole I don’t want her to actually work for Elena but I have to do this and keep her at a distance Lucien be a the more she is close by the more he feels like he can get her and I simply cannot let that happen” Drake explains to Cole.“So if you do like her this much why would you have to do all this? I really don’t see the need to be all mean and non chalant about the whole Elena thing because it is well within her rights to refuse to do anything that is not within her employment” Cole says to Drake.“I know that but I had to draw a boundary between us. No matter how I much I feel about her I am still her boss and that respect needs to be there”“As much I understand this what you did this lot was going a little of the top to stamp your authority wasn’t
Author’s POV)It’s the first day for Alexa to work under Elena, and she completely hates the idea of doing it and the fact that she is actually going to be doing it daily for the time being. She hates that Drake is doing this to her for trying to leave the office. Now she’s not only still sick here with all that has happened but also having to work directly under, not with, but under Elena. She walks into the office, and the air feels thick, and she wonders if it has always been like this and swears that it was not always this way. Maybe it was her mood that made the place feel gloomy and dark.Alexa heads to her office, and on her way, she runs into Drake, having an uncomfortable encounter.“Hi, good morning,” Alexa greets and forces a smile.“Yeah, morning,” Drake mumbles a reply and walks by without saying another word, which is unlike him. But she understands and does not want to pursue it further. She slowly picks up her pace and continues to her office to settle down before the
The constant vibration from my phone disturbed the peace and tranquility of the morning. This morning, my sleep has been going off and on as I have tried to force myself to sleep away through the pain of Alexa’s rejection and frustration of the contract.Nothing was going according to plan, and I experience and feel new levels of anger and frustration every time I wake up and realize my situation. Now, to add to that, someone is blowing up my line this early morning, and honestly, I’m not having it.My two guesses will be Letty and my Mum. They were the only two people who have the mindset to bother me this morning. However, I have no intention of dealing with them this early morning but finding my peace of mind. The calls, however, don’t stop, and I can’t switch my phone off, so I have to answer.“Oh my God, Lucien, I have been calling for ages now. Why didn’t you pick up?” Letty screams into my ear. “I may have been shot or in real danger, and you would not have answered on time. Wh
