Chapter Ten

Rejected. Banished. Rogue.

The words swim in my head, swirling around, threatening to drag me down. This is a nightmare. My worst nightmare.

Everyone is staring at me. Am I supposed to do something? I'm not sure what they want. The prince says something, but his voice is too far away for me to hear.

The next thing I know my world goes entirely dark.

My mate, the man I am destined to love, marry, and have a family with, lies motionless on the ground, on the verge of death. I only just met him today. We've barely said hello. I will not let him die.

I give my surroundings a quick look, making sure there's no one else around. I can save him, but it's risky. Dangerous. I don't know how, and I don't know why, but there is a way I can bring people back from death itself.

My mother warned me never to tell anyone about this. She made it clear – throughout my entire life – that revealing this talent would be disastrous not only for me, but for everyone who knew. She promised, over and over a
