JESSICA Blake muttered the phrase ‘she is alive’ several times. I had never seen him this disoriented. I tried to ask him but I decided to give him a few minutes to discern what I had just told him. I never knew this woman had a significance to his life. I didn't know what connection they had but I was more concerned about how it was affecting him. How he was affected.Everything slowed down, and it felt like I was stuck in between times, not knowing what to do. There hasn't been this kind of heavy silence hovering around us before. I tried to reach the bond but he wasn't having it. He has blocked his mind from me. “I do not like the fact that you guys are quiet and not telling me what's going on?” I became scared. If Blake was this quiet about a random woman, then it seals our fate when Antonio comes for us. I didn't know what else to do to reach him. Vanessa, who was the cheerful one, had drowned in her fair share of sorrow. It was almost like the pain was transferred onto me.
BLAKE Nothing is more devastating than revealing the past that should have been kept asleep. I didn't think that part of my life was going to resurface. It was a day I wanted to forget. I knew I was going to speak about it, but I didn't think it was this soon with the woman whom I had loved now.I had not seen her this distraught, and she had been avoiding me. Lunch came and she missed it. Sitting in an empty dining room with just Vanessa and I. I tried to understand where she might be coming from but it only made me miss her more.I noticed Vanessa was staring at me. I knew what she was going to say. "I told ya, tell her sooner." Yeah, I should have but I knew something like this would happen. Maybe she did understand me, that doesn't mean Jessica would."Please, don't say it."She chuckled. "I wasn't going to say that, trust me." So I gave her a listening ear. “What I was going to say was, I think you just have to give her some time. I promise you she will come around.” I shook my
BLAKE There was a certain sadness that enveloped me, watching her leave like that. Her last look at me before hopping into the car was a bit relieving that she wasn't offended with me but then... I tried to be at peace with the fact that I made the right decision in letting her go. She made the choice herself and I didn't think it was the right one. I didn't know why Antonio was an issue for all of us. There was always a way for him to rise from the fucking shadows. I tried to make sense of why he would want her in exchange for a war. Antonio wasn't the type of person to back out from any kind of war, if he wanted to inflict hell, there was always a way for him to make that happen. I didn't know if he was saying true to his words or if Jessica was the prize he needed to take. I hated myself even more just thinking of how stupid I had been in listening to her. I poured myself another drink. “That's your fifth glass and if care is not taken, you would be done with the whole bottle
JESSICA As soon as I got to the pack, Antonio was hostile towards his staff as the guards dragged me into the lobby. Even with the quietness in the car, Antonio found a way to break every bit of peace I had by bragging how it was easy to take me from Blake. I had no words for him because it was true. It was quite easy, too easy that I didn't think his words might hold any weight for me as I spend most of my time in his pack. Deep down, I knew he was going to launch an attack, but first, giving him the benefit of the doubt was something I felt was needed. “Take her to the dungeons!” He yelled at the guard holding me in his grip. “What?!” I yelled in panic. “Remember, you promised.”“I didn't promise that you wouldn't be treated as my prisoner. You are under my fucking roof and I would treat you as I please. At least your so-called man comes running to his death.” he had this smug smile on his face as he taunted me with his threat. I shook my head. “I know you didn't promise me th
JESSICA I scolded myself in my head. I should have kept her name out of my mouth but I couldn't help but wonder what kind of a lady she was, that she was seen around this cruel man who only knows how to spill blood as an answer to anything. “Have we met before?” She asked me but I knew my words were as sharp as iron if I kept letting her read me in my own game. Silence was far more reachable because it was a way to keep my thoughts to myself without them knowing my next move or the next words I wanted to say. I didn't want to expose the fact that I saw through dreams. She walked closer to me, looking me in the eye. I lowered my gaze. My cover was much more important than being tough. I wanted to have a conversation with her to know how dark her mind went. “I feel like I have seen you somewhere before.” I shook my head. The way her eyes went darker, it was clear she didn't buy it. I prayed to the heavens that she wouldn't recognize me. Deep down I knew how futile the prayer was.
JESSICA I have never felt this much fear inside of me. I couldn't quite see why she was suddenly calm. She continued scanning me like she was trying to figure out something. I couldn't blame her at all. If I found out about someone this strangely, I would want to know what else was at play. It was in the same way, I was trying to figure her out. She had this familiar and off aura around her. I saw her as the opposite of me. I didn't know what else would make that work or what was at play but there was something sinister about her. No matter how much I tried, I couldn't come up with anything. Which made things worse. “I want to take her for a walk.” She casually told Antonio and walked ahead of me. He instructed the guards to release the chains on me. Antonio was confused and wanted to know more; his lack of trust was so evidently written in his eyes, but he couldn't act until he had sensed a cause of betrayal and pain..I joined her trails, and where we walked through the cobblesto
JESSICA I tried to reason with her but she wasn't having it. She had been riding on a stronger conviction that Blake was only put to hurt her. To make sure that she had suffered for pursuing him like that even when he had a girlfriend. I didn't know how I was still solving the exes of my man cases. A part of me, deep down, wanted her to self-destruct, but I didn't know for how long I was going to live with the guilt. Even when I knew she was on the wrong side of justice, I felt for her. My heart was with her every moment she objected to what I had in mind. She acted not to be moved by what I had told her. She was dissociating herself from the whole truth. She wanted to justify her madness all these years.“You don't know what you are talking about. He hated me because of that girl. There was no way he could have broken up with her in such a short time.”“I will not lie to you. I am his mate, remember, and as such, I get to know exclusive details about him. That is what I am proving
JESSICA“Why are you helping me?” I was forced to ask.She scoffed. “Don't kid yourself, there is nothing special about you that I am saving your life. I wouldn't like the war to be an unfair one, so I am letting you go, to inform your beloved mate, that I am very much alive, and I am coming for him.”I was about to speak when the maid showed up. I saw the surprise in her face when she saw Priscilla and I was conversing. I signaled for her to keep quiet.“You better leave with her immediately. I am obliged to tell him that she is gone and if we see you along the premises or even the border, we are going to kill on sight.” She told us. The maid was surprised and kept wondering what the deal was between Priscilla and me.“I will tell you on the way home. Are we leaving now? That bitch isn't bluffing.”“Yes, we are. We would take the train, which would lead us to the border. I have already made the arrangements.” I followed the maid to the site, where a friend took us to the train statio
