‘Your tone is changing, girl. You do know to whom you’re talking, don’t you?’ Mom asked sternly.

‘I know. I’m talking with a mother who would have scratched any person’s face with her claws for saying rubbish about her son. That’s why I did your work in your absence.'

‘Fred doesn’t need our protection,’

‘I also know that, Mom. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t need to be protected. I can now understand why you have hidden the truth from him. You’re protecting him mentally and emotionally, and I promise I will do the same.'

‘I know. Paige told me how you shut her mouth and lost your temper when she asked that question,’ Mom chuckled. ‘I
