Chapter 79

The day was bright and saturated sunlight filtered in from the large bay windows. Anna turned and opened her eyes, letting the sunlight contract her pupils. She yawned and stretched before sitting up. The feeling of having a good sleep was welcoming and she felt energized.

"Are you going to sleep the whole day? It's late afternoon."

That sentence seemed to bring her out of her mini daydream. Anna climbed out of her bed quickly and hurried to look at the clock ticking at the other end of the wall, beside where Alma sat on a vanity table applying makeup.

The time was past three. Anna was shocked. She stood there in her light baby blue shorts and a flannel shirt, mouth hanging open.

"What happened? When did you wake up?" Anna asked, her eyes finally leaving the clock.

Alma dropped a medium sized makeup brush she was holding and twisted on the vanity chair to look at her friend. Alma assessed her; her messy braids that were all over the place, lines on her face, thanks to the rumpled
