Chapter 4

Ellie ran into a wall which turned out to be that of her mate, she equally landed on her butt, the ground was not also fair to her. She groaned rubbing her forehead. Today was not going her way at all, first her broken up marriage, the humiliation, her mate almost rejecting her, a fight with her wolf and now she has landed herself on the ground, annoying her already annoyed mate.

“Why do you stop suddenly?” She whined at him

“You should have been watching where you are going instead of screaming at your wolf” Came his reply.

“Whatever” She helped herself up and dust the dirt off her dress

“With this, you won’t be getting to the event center on time and I’m sure some reasonable persons would have been worried about you”

Ellie groaned, why was he always right? She knew her beta and best friend would be worried sick about her by now. “So what do you suggest I do?” She asked in a witty voice, which caused him to turn and look at her, she raised an eyebrow at him and his lips twitched a bit.

“Change into your wolf and run, well if you can run like this no problem but don’t slow me down”

“Are you naturally rude?” She couldn’t help but ask

“What?”

“Nothing, turn around so I can change”

“I thought you have learned a thing or two” He fold his hands and kept looking at her

She rolled her eyes at him, she dreaded living with him, if this was his normal way of behaving. She turned around and stripped out of her clothes, slowly she changed into her wolf and grabbed her clothes, turning back to him he was already in his magnificent wolf form, his clothes in shards around him.

He nodded at her and turned around running, she followed suit. She caught up with him easily, since she was a good runner and the leader of the elite wolf.

The elite wolf are special wolves in her pack, the bravest fighters, only few of them was remaining after the attack on her pack when she was a little girl, growing up she vowed to provide the few that are left of the elite wolf. She noticed her increased his speed a little bit leaving her behind, she didn’t mind in as much he leads her the right way. He began to slow down and she knew why, she could smell different packs, the drinks, food and the likes. He finally stopped and turned to her.

She knew she should change, so she did so, she combed through her hair with her fingers, wore her shoes and prayed she looked presentable enough to join the event. She gave him a finally glance. “You know where to find me” She said and walked away.

Loris was the first one that attacked her with questions. She was dragged to the ladies room.

“Where the hell have you been?”

“Around” Ellie said avoiding Loris’s eyes

“Stop lying to me Ellie, where were you, we have been looking all over for you, you got us worried”

“I’m sorry”

“Sorry? You think that’s it? Sorry? For getting us worried, you should have seen Lucas, ready to murder somebody, and you think you saying sorry covers it all? Oh no…”

“I met my mate” Ellie said

“You should have shown some…what did you say?” Loris looked at her

“I met my mate”

“How many times will I tell you, Sebastian is not your mate?”

“I didn’t say he was Sebastian, I met my real mate”

Silence

“Where? Who was he? Which pack is he from? What’s his rank?”

“Calm down Loris will you?”

“I'm dying to know, at least you found your mate”

Ellie could tell her best friend was happy for her, she managed a smile for her.

“So?”

“He is Alpha Ezra”

“Ezra?...who is he…which pack… Alpha Ezra?” Loris yelled “You don’t mean it”

“He’s the one” Ellie said

“Oh my God, no one has seen him for like years, and you just met him suddenly? That’s unbelievable”

“After running into Asher. I went for a run in the woods and ended up at the Crimson pack, where he ran into me”

“So?”

“He almost rejected me but, he didn’t, he brought me back here”

“That is…that is not romantic at all, he didn’t mark you?”

“No”

“That's a discussion for another day, you need to speak with Lucas, you look like you rolled through the forest” Loris commented as she started cleaning Ellie up, she retouched her make up then looked her over “You look good now”

Ellie led the way out of the ladies room and did not even have to find Lucas because he did.

“Are you okay” Lucas asked

“I’m fine Lucas, I only went for some fresh air”

Lucas gave her a look but said nothing, he nodded and went on his business, Loris led them to the food station

“I don’t have the appetite to eat” Ellie said

“Because your mate almost rejected you?” Loris asked popping a berry in her mouth, “Why does Alpha Asher keep staring at you?”

Ellie looked up and met Asher’s gaze, she rolled her eyes like a child at him and looked away “I don’t know, and I don’t care”

“The pack members are complaining about the hateful words thrown at them because of the broken marriage”

“I am sorry I can’t help them”

“You can announce that you have a mate, and he is Alpha Ezra” Loris said

“Your mate is Alpha Ezra?” A voice asked behind them

Both ladies turned and saw Alpha Patrick of the Fuchsia pack standing behind them with a drink in one hand. He was a handsome one too, part of the friends Ellie had while growing up.

“Patrick” Ellie forced a smile at him

“Do you have a habit of going around mating with all alphas?”

“How dare you?” Ellie was mad

“It's only the trust, why hide it if you are mate with Alpha Ezra?” Patrick smirked and Ellie wished she could wipe it off his face.

“For your information, my mate is Ezra, you can go ahead to his pack and confirm that” Ellie said with confidence

“Did I hear someone mention Alpha Ezra's name?” A voice asked behind them all.

Ellie hissed as she turned to glare at Asher who interrupted them. She felt Loris hand and they held hands behind their back with Loris's voice calming her down through the mind link.

“Here you are claiming to be Alpha Ezra's mate” He laughed “How long can you get Ellie?”

“You have no right to talk down at me Asher, we might have grown up together but be careful the way you talk to me, my life is mine and mine alone”

“Calm down Ellie” Patrick said

“Don’t tell me what to do, and I’m referring to you too Patrick, you all should mind your damn business and focus on your pack well being” Ellie said

They noticed the whole place had gone quiet, Ellie wondered what was going on, she could feel the tension in the air, like someone unwanted was around. The energy in the hall was high also.

“What’s going on?” Ellie asked Loris through the mind link

“I have no idea” Loris replied back through the link

Ellie’s question was answered when the unwanted question came into her view, she moved automatically to hide behind Loris. Whispers from around crowded the hall.

“That is the Alpha of the Crimson pack?” Loris asked aloud

Alpha Both Asher and Patrick turned to look at Ellie with a questioning look. “Are you hiding from your mate Ellie?” Taunt Asher

“Why will I?” Ellie asked and moved away from Loris, she looked at her mate and their gaze met. He looked away from her and she felt hurt.

“What is he doing here?” Asher asked

“The same thing you are doing here” Ellie snapped

“We have a very special guest here tonight” The announcer said, joy, curiosity in her voice “The Alpha of the Crimson pack, Alpha Ezra, it’s an honor to have him here, though he is here alone”

“There you have it, you said he is your mate?” Asher asked Ellie

Ellie ignored him “You need to stop behaving like a kid” She turned on her heels and walked away to the ladies room, which was like a hiding place for that day, she knew Loris was following her.

They found an empty stall and entered, Loris locked the door behind her. “Are you sure he is your mate?” Loris asked confused

“I don’t even know, just like my mom explained when you meet your mate, I felt that way, but I’m not sure he feels the same”

“You don’t need to hide in here then, you are an independent lady, the Alpha of the elite wolf, proudly from the Moonlight pack, you have nothing to hide, so let’s go out there and have fun” Loris encouraged.

“You are right” Ellie looked at herself at the mirror “Let’s go have fun”

They both left the ladies room to the drink station and ordered for a drink, after two glass, Loris pulled Ellie to the dance floor, turning her back to Alpha Ezra so she won’t be too bothered.

Ellie was having fun with the changing of partners, though among the highest rank of wolves. Ellie changed partner again and she almost stopped dancing when Asher appeared in front of her, he grabbed her waist and her right hand to pull her closer to his body.

“I have no intention of dancing with you, can you let go of me?” Ellie demanded

“Why? So you can go and whore yourself to Ezra?” He asked

Ellie tried to push away from him but he held her tight that it hurt. She smelt him before she saw him.

“Excuse me, I think I need to dance with my mate now” Alpha Ezra said behind Asher, who stopped dancing. He placed his hand on Asher shoulder in warning. Asher gave Ellie a final grip before releasing her and walking away.

Ellie looked up at her mate, he was staring at her as if he could read her mind, see through her head, he was not getting close to her to dance. “I think I’ll leave”

“Running again?” He asked stopping her in her tracks

She turned to him angrily “You think I’m the one running? There you are wrong, I wonder what you are doing here, you have never attended something like this, why now?”

“I expect you to be a faithful mate, I can’t tarnish my pack reputation with you”

Ellie stopped dancing but he pulled her back to dance “What are you implying?”

“What are you thinking?” He countered back

“I also expect you to be faithful” Two can play the game

“I'm sure the whole packs are now aware that we are mates, you should be careful and stop wandering off alone” Just as the song was ending he let her go, turned and disappeared through the crowd, Ellie was left dumbstruck so he only came to give awareness? She walked out of the hall mind linking Loris and Lucas to meet her outside, she had had enough of drama, she is going back to her pack, her sanctuary.

Lucas was the first to arrive, he unlock the door and Ellie took her seat, she checked her phone and saw some missed calls messages from her parents, Sebastian, she ignored it all.

“How far with the transportation back?” Ellie asked Lucas who sat in front of the wheel

“Everything is set, they will leave in an hour time, and the security is in place”

“Good”

“Sorry I’m late” Loris apologized as she took her seat beside Ellie, Ellie gave her friend a smile and Lucas started the car and drove off to the Moonlight pack.

“How was it?” Loris asked

“Later, I just need to regroup myself” Ellie said

“You did well today” Loris patted Ellie’s shoulders and rest back on her seat.

Ellie looked out of her window into the dark forest, as she stared long and hard she could swear she saw eyes following them, something big running through the forest, a beast like her mate, but her mate does not have time to joke around like following her from a distance.
