"Why does Raphael want to see me?" Winter inquired, puzzled, as Nathan escorted her to the main region of the palace.
Nathan shook his head. "His Majesty didn't share the details with me," he replied, then noticed Winter's hands. He couldn't help but remark, "It must have been tough for you, washing all those utensils."
Winter nodded and her expression grew somber. "It was indeed difficult. However, performing such chores helps me momentarily forget what has happened to me, how I've lost even the good people around me," she explained, her words laden with the weight of sorrow and loss.
"My father was indeed cruel, so I feel what happened with him was right," Winter said after a brief pause.
Nathan glanced at her. He liked the fact that she was still strong in such a situation. She was standing her ground and had become fearless. "It's unfair that those who have no fault have to pay too sometimes," he affirmed.
"Did my father kill your parents too? My apology will never end that pain, but still, I would like to apologize to you," Winter said humbly.
"It's alright. You don't need to apologize for Ezkiel's crimes. I believe in justice, which I got. I won't let an innocent person die in the fire of vengeance," Nathan asserted.
"Those words mean a lot to me. You have a nice heart," Winter said with a smile.
Nathan smiled to hear that and asked her if anyone tried to harm her she could take his name. "No one would dare to harm you then," Nathan opined.
Winter was slightly amused to hear that. "They may get the wrong meaning of it. I'm thankful that you said that," she asserted while politely refusing to use his name.
"Then, you should take His Majesty's name. No one will dare to speak anything to you then," Nathan suggested.
"I would die but never use Raphael as my shield. I hate him," Winter said in a fury. What he did to her was not forgivable either. He wasn't either lesser than a bully. In fact, he was the worst among them.
"The King has kept you alive not because he would torture you. I believe he also doesn't want to kill an innocent. None of us saw our parents' death, but His Majesty witnessed that. That's why he's more hurt internally. You'll slowly find out about him," Nathan briefed her about Raphael's past.
"Oh," Winter felt a bit upset to learn that. So, Raphael was also a broken soul.
"Many of the werewolves want you to die. But in some eyes, an innocent shouldn't die. King Raphael also thinks the same, but he would never admit it," Nathan explained to her.
Winter hummed as she nodded her head as she understood Raphael's behavior toward her. Finally, they reached the King's manor, where Raphael was awaiting her.
"Thank you for the help, Nathan," Winter expressed her gratitude and bowed her head slightly before stepping inside the giant door.
Crossing the main walkway, she reached the drawing chamber, which was empty.
"His Majesty is in his bedchamber," a servant informed her, who then walked away.
"I think he called me to give him a massage," Winter murmured and hesitated to go inside. However, she gathered her courage and walked inside.
Raphael was still in his clothes, which relieved her, but he was on the bed. His head rested on the headboard, his legs lying flat on the soft mattress.
"Come," Raphael said. "You suddenly disappeared," he added.
"What does His Majesty want?" Winter queried.
"Come here and then, I'll tell you," Raphael affirmed, signaling her to sit on the bed with him.
Winter dragged her feet gradually toward the bed.
"Sit," Raphael said.
Winter shook her head.
"Why are you so stubborn?" Raphael annoyingly asked her.
"That's why you should not call me in your service," Winter remarked.
Raphael chuckled to hear her response. He grasped her wrist and pulled her down. Winter was bewildered by his act and at the same time, was terrified too. He was quite powerful and the thought of what he could do to her sent shivers in her.
"Stay still or I've to tie you to the bed," Raphael proclaimed. He showed her a circular wooden box and opened its lid. An olive-colored paste was inside it. He took it in his two fingers and gently grabbed her arm.
"What is His Majesty doing?" Winter queried when his fingers rested above the largest bruise on her arm. He moved them in a circular motion.
"It's a rare, herbal medicine which treats the bruise like you have on your arms," Raphael explained to her.
Winter stopped blinking for a moment and kept looking at him. Was this Raphael's true, gentle side? She pondered.
"You said you wanted me to die, then you should not be doing this," Winter said.
"You are right," Raphael asserted and moved his fingers to the second bruise on her forearm, "but I couldn't neglect it."
Winter's heart skipped a beat, but she didn't want to believe it. It was all a lie. He despised her from the bottom of his heart. She let him apply that medicine. Probably, this was the last time she would see his affectionate side toward her.
"Why are your hands so dry? They look pale," Raphael inquired and he met his gaze.
"I washed a few utensils," Winter answered.
"A few or a lot? Who dared to make a princess wash the dishes?" Raphael quirked his eyebrow.
"I am no longer a princess," Winter stated.
"Well, if I said that then you are," Raphael affirmed.
"What's gotten into you? Earlier, you were ready to kill me," Winter confusedly gazed into his eyes and pulled away her arm from his grip. She decided to leave the chamber. However, Raphael drew her close, making her eyes go wide.
"I told you to stay steady, Wild Wolf," Raphael whispered against her lips.
"I'm not a Wild Wolf," Winter affirmed.
"Oh, you are!" Raphael remarked with a smirk on his lips. "You love to defy me, your master and that's what makes you a wild wolf," he elaborated to her. His lips were barely an inch apart from hers, causing her to flutter her eyelids.
"Your cheeks flushing red," Raphael said and he smirked. He asked her to turn to the other side since the medicine needed to be applied to the other arm too. Winter complied with him and turned her back to him. "You got kind of a unique surprise on your 18th birthday," Raphael proclaimed. His fingers gently rubbed over her bruise. "Are you mocking me?" Winter inquired him. "Do you also think I'm a jinx?" Her tone was laced with fury and frustration. "You got a present on your birthday," Raphael ignored her questions and shifted his fingers to the third bruise on her forearm. Winter quickly moved away and stood up on her feet. "Nathan said you kept me alive because, in your eyes, I was innocent. Is that true? Why do you treat me in a way that gives me more pain?" she asked him. "I was being gentle to you," Raphael proclaimed. "No. Your words make me hurt," Winter asserted. "I don't want to be near you. Don't call me when you have no work for me," she opined. "You cannot step out
Winter frowned as the Wolfsbane touched his skin, he tried holding his wince, but could not. Both Nathan and Hector left their places to rush toward their King. "You are hurt," Winter said with a worried expression and she held his arms. "Raphael, why did you–" Cecilia couldn't complete her words as he asked her to shut her mouth. Though he was in excruciating pain, he turned to look at Cecilia with disdain. "I won't punish you for what you just did because you were my friend. Let's not see each other ever again," Raphael stated and walked out of the dining hall in fury. Winter followed him because Raphael needed immediate attention. "You have completely lost your mind," Nathan told Cecilia with a disgust in his tone. Hector, though, didn't say anything to her, but his gaze expressed his angry emotions toward her. On the other side, Raphael reached his bedchamber somehow and fell on the bed. The Wolfsbane had an immediate effect on his body, making him a bit weak. Beads of sweat
Cecilia was extremely furious and disappointed in Raphael. All she desired was an act of complete revenge against Winter, but why did he have to go to this extent and save his enemy’s daughter?“I just hope you don’t die yet," Cecilia asserted. “I will leave if you want me to, but don’t expect me to sit back and let you do what you want.” She murmured and returned to her room to collect her things and leave the palace as soon as possible. Cecilia looked at the servants and asked them to pack her belongings quickly. She had no intention to stay in the palace for another second. A maidservant walked in and informed Cecilia about Nathan and Hector. “Why are you two here?” Cecilia crossed her arms together as she saw them walking in.“If we had waited, would you have let us in?” Nathan inquired and looked at the servants, who were packing Cecilia’s clothes.“I do not want to talk with the two of you,” Cecilia stated and averted her gaze from them. “Even if you two stop me, I won’t. I am
Winter’s legs were aching as Raphael asked her to keep standing next to his bed. When the water went above her head, she opened her mouth to speak, “Why are you punishing me? I did not ask you to send your friend away from the palace.”Raphael opened his eyes and glanced at her. “It happened because of you. I never once fought with Cecilia,” he affirmed, blaming her for what happened earlier. Winter chuckled at his comment. “Your Majesty asked me to have meals with them. If His Majesty thinks I am the reason for his problems, then he should let that wolfsbane fall on me. Your revenge would have been completed that way,” she taunted him. Raphael frowned at her harsh remarks. “I want you to suffer gradually,” he reminded her. “Just accept that you feel weak because I am your mate,” Winter said with a challenging tone. “And why do you think you are so important for me to feel weak in front of you?” Raphael said, slipped out of his bed, and approached Winter.Raphael was inches away f
Winter pulled away, shooting a sharp glance at Raphael in response to his unexpected kiss. However, he gently anchored his hand on the back of her head and once more drew her into a kiss.As an omega, Winter possessed an allure that heightened Raphael's attraction toward her. His resolve to resist her was tested when her icy fingers grazed his skin. Despite his efforts, his restraint crumbled as Winter unwittingly drew near to him.Raphael skillfully nibbled at her lips, his body emanating an uncharacteristic intensity of warmth. As his teeth lightly brushed against her lips, she stifled a muted gasp, uncertain of what might follow. Yet, he maintained the kiss's innocence, keeping it pure. With a smooth motion, he rose to his feet, drawing Winter up alongside him. Positioned on the elevated platform of the bathtub, her head hovered just inches above Raphael's.As Raphael pulled Winter into the huge bathtub, the soap bar fell off her hand, and she emitted another gasp. The sensation of
Raphael gathered with Nathan and Hector in the private chamber discussing with them regarding the change of the kingdom's name. "We need to talk with the other officials once about this. Then, His Majesty can pass the decree related to the change of the kingdom's name," Hector advised. "Of course, tomorrow in the court council this matter will be discussed," Raphael explained. "Did His Majesty tell about this to Winter?" Nathan queried. "I did. She doesn't care," Raphael replied. "What did Cecilia say?" he then asked. "She was furious and didn't allow us in the residence," Nathan answered. "Why did you send her away? We four have been together since childhood. I know she made a mistake and wanted to harm Winter, but her anger is reasonable on her," Hector asserted. He had promised Cecilia that he would talk on her behalf to Raphael. "Because Cecilia would not have respected my choice to keep Winter alive. I don't want her to stay mad at me or either of you all the time. That is
The next morning Raphael after getting ready returned to his chamber, feeling burdened with worries. He knew that with Hector, Cecilia, and Nathan around, things would be taken care of. However, his immediate concern was his upcoming rut. In the past, he managed to suppress his desires as he had no mate. But lately, being near Winter made it hard for him to control himself even on regular days. Now, with his rut approaching, he feared his overwhelming desire for Winter, which was overpowering his mind. Last night, after having a conversation with Nathan and Hector, he contemplated whether he began liking Winter. But that was not possible. He would never love his enemy's daughter. He was confident that it was lust in him that made him attracted toward Winter all the time. Entering his bedchamber, Raphael found Winter changing the flowers in a pot. "Why are you here?" he asked in bewilderment. He remembered he didn't summon her there. "Your Majesty!" Winter bowed her head, greeted h
Raphael entered the courtroom, and the anticipation in the air was palpable. The nobles gathered for the king's arrival, and stood up with heads low as he entered. Raphael walked to his throne with a unique air of authority, a demeanor that set him apart. Seated on the throne, he gestured for the nobles to take their seats."The court shall start," Raphael pronounced, focusing his attention on Nathan, seated to his right."Your Majesty, the subjects in the territory bestowed to me are happy with the Kingdom's name change," Nathan reported, then turned to Hector to address concerns in his territory.Nathan was known for his diligence and intelligence when it came to his official duties. Even in the face of unrest, he could swiftly quell disturbances.Hector stood, bowing respectfully to the king.
