Evacuation.
Sawyer felt his whole world falling apart as he read through the government’s werewolf eviction memo again. The third time he was doing so. It couldn’t be. This had to be a joke.
But it was real. The words on the paper in his hands were real and the stamp at the tail end of the page confirmed that the president was in support. Oh, God. His heart began to race in panic.
The sweet shop. Where would I run to? I’m almost on heat!
Deep breaths, Sawyer. Deep breaths.
At least the reasons for the eviction notice were reasonable. A bit.
In the best interests and safety of all Manhattan citizens, I, President Kickbutt order the immediate evacuation of all werewolf residents in the state. It is with a heavy heart I also announce the death of my colleague and best friend, the Vice President of Manhattan – Sir George Phillips, whose home security system was bypassed and his home broken into by a group of werewolf hooligans. We’re so sure that the culprits are werewolves because the marks on his neck confirm it. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family members and we assure everyone to ensure that not one werewolf resident will be allowed to live after Saturday, the 24th of May, 2021.
Signed.
President Max Kickbutt.
Sawyer’s head was spinning. There was no way he could get out of Manhattan before Saturday. His heat period stood in the way of that, which would hit him full force like a tsunami by tomorrow. He had no savings, having used it all in setting up a smoothie booth in front of the shop. He was penniless and soon – homeless also.
Oh god.
Manhattan was the only home he’d ever known. He’d left his small communal home in a rural town in Mexico when he was eleven. His parents had been killed in a fierce Pack bloodbath and he’d followed a now distant aunt to Manhattan without her knowledge. The heat in the boot was stifling and it was a miracle that he hadn’t passed out due to the three-hour-long journey without air.
He’d stumbled into a small neighborhood and the home of a childless matriarch. Mrs. Angelini felt sorry to hear his heartbreaking story and Sawyer was thankful that the old woman hadn’t alerted the police and reported him as a missing person. Mrs. Angelini had been married twice yet she bore no child due to an infertility problem that couldn’t be cured. She took Sawyer in as her son and sent him to college and university before she passed out on March 1st one year ago. Sawyer had been broken ever since, but he managed to assume ownership and full responsibility for S-Angelini Candies which Mrs. Angelini previously ran.
Business was good, the customers were starting to like him, and S-Angelini was set to be one of the leading small-scale sole-proprietorships in downtown Manhattan by fall. Only now, Manhattan would be a danger zone by Sunday and he had nowhere to go.
He scrunched up the memo and tossed it aside on the kitchen table. Out front, Maddie Summers, his only human friend was handling sales. They weren’t selling a lot, probably because of the memo as the customers knew that he wasn’t a human. It was a miracle they weren’t flipping out on him as they’d been doing to other werewolves since the week began. The Vice President’s death struck a nerve in them.
Everything sucks.
“What’s with the sad face, boy?” Maddie announced her entrance with a loud smack of her gum and the heady scent of her cologne. Sawyer turned around to face her Just as Maddie hopped on the counter, swinging her legs. For someone slim and 5’9, she had pretty long legs.
She pried the paper and straightened it, her black eyes roaming over the neatly-typed words on the page, the skin of her forehead pressed together in concentration. “Oh. My. God. This is bad news.”
Sawyer stood up now, his legs feeling like jelly as he began taking the things he’d need to make his signature blueberry hard candy from the top shelf. He’d decided not to think too much on the memo until Friday. He tended to brainstorm effectively while under duress. “I don’t want to dwell on it.”
Maddie nodded, “I understand. But don’t you think…you could stay around and fool the humans for a bit? You’re almost like us, except that you shift during nights of the full moon.”
“That,” Sawyer doused the wood board with baking powder, “would’ve been a fantastic idea, Maddie. But my heat period hits full force tomorrow and won’t be over till Sunday.”
“Are you sure you calculated this heat thing right? Don’t you have extended relatives or something that’ll be willing to help you with a roof while you sort out what you’d like to happen to the sweet shop? It’ll be hard getting rid of the building because Mrs. Angelini owns it legally…”
“Maddie, calm down, one question at a time. I’m not getting rid of this shop. There must be a way around this. I just haven’t thought of it yet. I wished I could go back to my aunt but it’s been more than eight years…nobody knows if I’m still alive or not.”
“True. I’m sorry I suggested that you should give up your inheritance.”
“It’s okay. I’ll be fine. This heat thing just makes it a whole lot harder.”
“I get it. The uneasiness and constant urge for sex.”?”
Sawyer’s cheeks flamed up in embarrassment. “Yes. And I don’t want to have sex or get pregnant yet. At least not until another year.”
Maddie laughed. “You poor virgin. When are you ever not celibate?”
Sawyer rolled his eyes as he sprinkled sugar on the syrup that he’d now poured out into little cusps. If only Maddie knew how hard it was being on heat and still trying to be celibate. He felt drawn to every alpha guy he met on the street, and they often smelt his heat too. It drove them crazy and so far he’d dealt with two heat periods since he turned eighteen and had a few cases of sexual harassment from arsehole alphas during those times. The very reason why he isolated himself indoors during the five days duration. She wasn’t ready to bring forth puppies or tie himself down with a man yet.
“Does this memo order apply to those alphas in high offices?”
Sawyer shrugged. “Probably not. They’re highly essential to the government. Lucky bastards.”
“How about this,” Maddie said behind him as they took the trays of candy to the oven. “You could have a very important alpha take care of this heat of yours…”
“Seriously? You’re asking me to get pregnant?”
“Umm, not really. He’ll use protection.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me, Maddie. This is the worst advice you could give.”
“Hey, I’m trying to help out here. See it as an auction. There are plenty of alphas who are willing to mate with no strings attached if I’m correct. All I’m saying is you either find the right guy or any guy who’s rich and willing to pay loads for it. At least if we’re not lucky in the high-class alpha department, you’ll have enough money to travel out until Manhattan becomes safe again. I can help you manage the sweet shop till you return. Think about it.”
Sawyer’s mouth fell open at how brilliant her plan sounded. Why didn’t he think of that before?
“I guess you’ve done something similar since you seem to be so sure of this.”
Maddie tu-ted and flipped her blonde hair. “Well, not really. Pilar, one of my girlfriends needed to get rid of her heat in time for a family vacation. She almost threw a towel in on the offer but I’m glad she told me on time. Together, we hunted down an Alpha who wanted an omega to knot with and worked out a clean deal.”
“Damn, that’s…” Sawyer trailed off in disbelief. “That’s so smart. Even for you.”
“And helpful. She had a blast on vacation and never crossed paths with that same alpha again. I’m not sure they even remember doing anything.”
“Isn’t that related to prostitution? I mean, giving out your body for money or service?”
“If you choose to see it that way, then sure. But it was a last-minute thing and there are no laws against it. Neither are you hurting anyone.” She patted his arm and then moved to place the empty tray on the counter. “Think about it and let me know. I can help accompany you to Bad and Boogie. It’s a renowned werewolf breeding zone under the guise of a bar. I trust you’ll find an important personality there tomorrow. We’ll be lucky, I hope.”
As Maddie sauntered back out front, Sawyer just stared after her, still unable to process that. He wasn’t exactly a fairytale type of guy but, he’d always dreamed of his first time being with his mate. But now, under these circumstances, there was no more room for that reality anymore.
There was no law against it. He was at least sure of being safe from the memo.
He wasn’t thinking any shit over. He was doing it.
“What got into me to think that this was a good idea at all?” Sawyer mumbled as they sashayed down the dark, lonely road that led to Bad and Boogie. It was a black, misty night and the werewolf whores were all about, lingering around the entrance and cramped parking lot. Sawyer could spot a handful of alphas around. His heat was slowly becoming unbearable and he couldn’t wait to find someone worthy and get the night over with.“It’s going to be fine,” Maddie reassured him for the umpteenth time that evening. “You do have a knack of worrying too damn much. Have I ever convinced you to try out something I’m not so sure of? Chill.”She had a point. Sawyer tried to visibly relax as they stopped to tip the hefty bouncer at the entrance. The man was an alpha no doubt, big and intimidating. His eyes darkened with lust as Sawyer hurried after Maddie, his heat smell permeating the small crowded corridor that led to the main bar.“Do you think he’s a good choice?” Sawyer asked, eyes still glued
Daniel backed the lady who was becoming increasingly aggressive up against the wall, their tongues moving in sync as he ground hard against her mid-section. She moaned, tilting her head back to give his lips access to her long, slender neck, her fingers sifting through his hair. He trailed hot, hard kisses down her neck to her breasts, moving the thin fabric that did little to hide her bulging cleavage to the side, taking a bulbous pink nipple into his mouth. In truth, he wasn’t really enjoying any of it. Victoria had been his sexual partner for a long, despite the fact that she was now in a relationship with Spencer his best friend. He’d met her at his very own company’s end-of-the-year dinner last year when Spencer introduced her to him as his fiancée. He’d felt hurt, butt-hurt, because he was in love with Spencer too but things became crazy when Victoria sought him out the day after, and they had wild sex on the back seat of his car by the roadside. He made a sloppy sound as he let
We need to talk. Call me as soon as you see this.Daniel sighed, leaning back a bit on the barstool he was perched on. He was nursing his fifth drink, to get his mind off his impending conversation with Spencer. They'd known each other since they were pups, seen so many things, peed in the same pond, dated girls who were best friends...treated each other like brothers than friends. Their bond was strong, and they never kept secrets from each other. Now, if only Spencer was an omega, Daniel wouldn't think twice about getting married to him.Keeping his eyes on the phone was torture. The anticipation of Spencer's texts made him anxious and had him ordering more bottles of beer, though he was careful not to get drunk. He didn't know if Victoria had left the bar, and honestly, he didn't care. The music pulsating off the walls bounced back at him and made him feel horny in a funny way. Plus, there were really hot chicks who were killing it on the dance floor tonight. He sighed, lifting his
Sawyer let out a relieved sigh, glad to see the alpha's turned back. That was intense. It was becoming increasingly difficult to breathe while he was near. And the electricity sizzling in his stomach wasn't helping matters. Sawyer had never imagined that the alpha would ever be interested in him. He thought that his heat was just messing with his head back on the balcony. When Sawyer looked into his eyes, it was just the same clear emerald green eyes, although there was an added twinkle, probably caused by the light of the half-moon up in the sky. Sawyer had felt his breath cease when the alpha smiled, his heart rate ratcheting up into quadruple digits. He couldn't look away even if he wanted. They would have never met each other if Maddie hadn't insisted he'd gone out to wait along the roadside where most of the big hawk alphas were in supply. He'd been slouching further down in his seat whenever a passing alpha glanced at him. Sawyer sensed that they could smell his heat, otherwise
Daniel drove a tired Sawyer to a cool Italian diner downtown. The ride was silent and peaceful, yet the air was so sexually charged, that Daniel felt his balls heavy and sticking to his inner thighs. It didn’t help that the windows were all wound up to keep Sawyer from shivering hard, and the smell of the omega’s heat permeated the chilly air. It was a miracle he didn’t drive them into a moving truck as pleasure shook through his whole body.Sawyer was awed at the diner’s interior as Daniel led him to a table and pulled out a chair for him to sit. If it were to be one of his slutty omega girls whom he normally went out with once in a while, Daniel would’ve felt a bit embarrassed. But with Sawyer, it was different. He found Sawyer’s questions and head-turning charming. “What? You’ve never been to an Italian diner before?”“Well, yeah,” Sawyer nodded, picking up the three-flap menu tenderly as though it were raw gold. “I can only dream of coming to such a place. The profits from my swee
They raced madly towards Daniel’s car, Sawyer fidgeting as Daniel hurriedly triggered the security alarm from his keypad. Before he could get the door open, Sawyer had his arms on him, kissing his lips sloppily and moaning aggressively. “Oh, God. Oh, God.”“Your first time with an Alpha?” Daniel smirked, wrapping his arms tightly around the omega’s slender waist and carrying him inside. It was so dreary dark with a few street lights illuminating them so it wouldn’t be best if anyone saw them outside. Sawyer had a death grip around his neck, attacking his neck ferociously, his skin setting off steam when it came in contact with Daniel’s, like fire meeting water. “Patience, sweetheart. Let’s get to my place first.”Sawyer loosened his hands around his neck, smothering them on his chest instead, his lips pulling up in a pout. “How far is it? I’m trying my best here but it’s not enough. If you don’t mind we can do it here. In your car…”“You won’t be comfortable, dear,” Daniel pecked his
Fifteen minutes later, when Daniel came out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel hanging loosely around his waist, Sawyer was already sprawled on the king-sized bed – stark naked. His arse was raised up in the air invitingly, a white pillow beneath his shoulders as his eyes lit at Daniel’s every motion. The Alpha decided to be a cruel tease, cupping his cock through the thin towel fabric and chuckling as the hunger in Sawyer’s eyes grew. The omega whimpered now. “Please. I need you in me so bad.”Daniel nodded, moving to the nightstand to put his phone on silent. It was almost midnight and he had a busy day the next morning but he didn’t care. Banging Sawyer was his chief priority at the moment and he couldn’t afford to condone any disruptions, even from Spencer. At last, he let his towel loose, stroking his bare cock absently while watching Sawyer squirm in excitement. “You little angel.”Sawyer nodded, bristling with energy. Daniel could feel him vibrating in his skin even as he a
The morning sunlight was already pouring in through the bedroom curtains when Sawyer managed to rouse himself awake. The room was silent and Daniel was nowhere in sight, having left over an hour ago, if he could recollect very well. His entire body was sore and his head was hurting, despite his heat subsiding. They hadn't knotted just once. Sawyer drifted off to sleep once the simmering tension released in his body the moment he felt the warmth of Daniel's knot traveling down his channel like soothing water.Since he began having these heat periods, this particular one was the worst. He kept waking Daniel up every three hours for an extra round. They'd ended up doing five. The sixth couldn't hold because Daniel felt like his sperm ducts were already sucked dry. Still, he helped Sawyer jerk off, which was relieving to an extent.Sawyer scanned the room which was lying in ruins before him. Daniel had carefully folded his clothes and placed them on the nightstand beside him. There was als
Sawyer sat quietly on a reclining chair in the dimly lit room he was slowly getting accustomed to as his. He was feeding Teagan his baby formula while darting his eyes at intervals towards a sleeping Milo that lay in the crib. It'd been over a month since he'd put to bed, and his mind had never been more at rest.Until today. The Moonlight Ritual was to take place in a few hours. He'd taken a peek out the window at the sound of horns and trumpets blaring, engines turning as Anita and her family convoy filed into the Pack Compound. He'd flushed with envy and resentment as she curtsied before the Elders; their eyes bright, welcoming. Then Daniel had shaken her hand, beaming. He shouldn't have felt envious of her. Daniel was mated to him, not her, no matter how much the Elders decided to pretend he didn't exist. That could be the reason they kept him around. Daniel wouldn't be at rest if Sawyer left the Pack. The preparations had started shortly after he'd been delivered of the twins. Th
Sawyer couldn't feel his legs. It had gone numb from his waist downward, and his head was heavy; as though it was stuffed full with lead. He couldn't move it without a splitting headache rocking his skull. His joints ached and his stomach felt weird. His anal hole wasn't even hurting.What. The...He ran a hand down his body slowly to a surprise on his stomach. His baby bump was gone! That fueled his static energy and he jerked upright in a panic. Had he lost the babies? Where were they? There was a slight tug at his left arm and he frowned, glaring up at the connected drip bag. His eyes were unfocused as he stared at Daniel's turned back. The Alpha leaned forward, singing into the crib in front of him. The atmosphere was set ablaze by tiny, shrill cries that made Sawyer's head burn. They sounded cute...and dreadful. As though Daniel could feel that he was awake, he turned, eyes widening in momentary panic. "You're awake, oh my goodness." He rushed forward, placing a steadying grip on
It was scarcely a fifteen minutes drive from Daniel's mansion to the Blue Moon's Pack House. The elders were lined up, waiting outside when they arrived, and a handful of influential Alphas. As Daniel helped him down, Sawyer caught their disgusted expressions but did not comment. His body burning all over was more than enough headache for him already. His legs were hurting from the weight of his belly."Should I carry you?" Daniel asked solemnly, his eyes soft and affectionate. He placed a hand on the small of Sawyer's back, and the omega allowed him to guide his steps. They reached the elders and halted and Daniel signaled a passing omega to come to help Sawyer stand while he shook hands."I don't think he's expecting just one pup, Daniel." Elder James said, pulling his nephew in for a hug. "You've done this Pack proud, son. It's a shame that he turned out to be a male." Daniel made a face, leading him to continue. "You must understand that this is not in our hands. We're not homopho
Sawyer didn't get to see Daniel for the next two days. The elders had begun talks with Anita's family, and Daniel was needed at their meetings . He was also in charge of overseeing the moonlight consummation. It was hurting to see these preparations being set in place for someone else. And he tried to reassure himself that it was only a matter of time before the Pack elders regretted their decision of making him Luna Consort. He was busy as well with the mails and constant calls of the general public. Somehow, word had got out that he was carrying Alpha Daniel's babies and so many people came from all over, both humans and members of other werewolves' packs in Manhattan to congratulate him for winning the insufferable Alpha's heart. Sawyer could see the envy written on their faces as they trooped into his room, and he felt lucky. Maddie and Sophie helped serve them root beer floats and chocolate cookies. There were also hard candies as well, and Sawyer was thankful to everyone that cam
Sawyer couldn't see anything. His eyelids were heavy, as though someone forced a palm on them. He was alone in the darkness."Hello?" His voice echoes back to him. Louder than normal. He took a step but didn't fall.He kept walking. "Hello?" There was a bright light ahead in the distance. It grew apart from him the more he walked towards it. He was going down what felt like a large corridor without visible walls, but the hairs on his arms stood on end and he could feel the subtle movement of everything around him. The light stopped now and went off.He was plunged into darkness again. This time he waited. For something, he didn't know to come.It didn't even take up to five minutes. The colors burst forth from the darkness at him, forming a symbol – a family in the air. His eyes widened at the twin-shaped stars, but more at the ethereal figure that appeared out of it."The Moon Goddess," he fell on his face now. Her beam was bright and powerful, and he felt electrocuted when she pulle
Sawyer closed his eyes, holding tightly onto Daniel, and felt three again. This time he was back in the little cramped Packhouse, the elders seated around him. His mother held onto his hand, pleading for a fairer punishment to be given to him, as he was the youngest in the Pack then. He couldn't remember what offense he committed, but he could relate the feeling of nervousness he'd felt back then to his current state. His heart was pounding, a million possibilities running through his mind – all negative. What if the elders didn't accept him or the baby? What if they accused him of being a bloodsucker after Daniel's money? What if they didn't think he was good enough to be Daniel's mate? The what-ifs didn't seem to be ending soon.Deep breaths, Sawyer. You can do this.Sawyer was aware of the level of influence the elders of a Pack held. As a combined force, they could overrule the decisions of Alphas and Betas. Their verdict, when passed was final and couldn't be twisted. He'd feared
After a much-needed hour-long nap, Sawyer went down to the garden. Daniel had gone out to get some groceries, and he was bored to death. To pass time, he strolled along the paved paths, running into a few people occasionally. He had to admit that the flowers looked neat – the blooms on the perennials were in excellent shape, florist quality. The soothing breeze whipped around his neck, and it felt like the first breaking dawn of spring all over again. There were curved marble benches sitting at strategic positions along the walk. He sat on one beneath a cozy tree, enjoying the vast green scenery and the calling of birds above his head. It was mid-summer and despite the soft breeze, the heat was sweltering and overwhelming. He wished he'd taken a bottle of water along with him. His throat was drier than the Sahara, and he could really use some cool water on his back. The mansion looked distant from his position in the garden. He'd walked so far and he could see the garden's edge which
"We're home, baby," Daniel announced as he pulled into the penthouse's driveway. He tapped the omega who was fast asleep lightly on his cheek. "Come on, now, hun. Let's get you to bed."Sawyer yawned and stretched his arms, his joint aching. He peered up at the familiar white, towering mansion in front of him as Daniel got out, over to the other side to open the door for him. He stepped out happily with his totes bag, slinging it over his left shoulder. Daniel wrapped an arm around his waist possessively, kissing his neck lightly as they walked into the spacious lobby. "I've called the pack doctor to come to check you up. But that would be later when you've fully rested, dear."Sawyer was about to protest by Daniel quickly shut him up with a kiss. When the Alpha pulled back, Sawyer chased after his lips, but Daniel placed a palm on his chest to stop him. "Easy now, buddy. You've got to understand that as my mate, you and my unborn pup's health and needs are my top priorities. I wouldn
The room appeared to tilt as Daniel stood rooted, far more fazed by the startling revelation than Sawyer had anticipated. His eyes twitched and he could feel the tears so close. He didn't want to betray his Alphahood but he couldn't help himself, neither could he believe it. "Our baby..."Sawyer whimpered in agreement, a bit frightened. Daniel looked as pale as a ghost – he'd never seen him look so old. Maddie rushed to put the chair in place behind him and he sat down heavily. Daniel dragged a second kitchenette chair closer. His legs couldn't hold him up anymore."Our baby." He repeated, his face breaking into a triumphant smile. "Our child. Is this the reason why you refused to open the door? You didn't want me to know about...my child?"Sawyer's face heated up in both shame and embarrassment as he managed to blurt out. "Yes. You should never have known about this pregnancy. It's not your place, Sir.""Do you hate me that much? Am I that distasteful?" Daniel knew he could come acro
