Kane's POV:

“The problem with prophecies,” Lady Blaire says, “is that you often don’t get the full picture. Sometimes, they unfold slowly. Like a story. I should have waited until the gods showed me the full picture.”

I growl at the tiresome witch. I’ve been trying to get an answer out of her for the last twenty minutes. Only now, after Alfred and the council left, does she decide to talk. “Stop talking in riddles. What does that mean?”

“It means we should have stayed out of it. Should have left Vickus and Moon Flower to burn this place and everything in it to the ground.”

“Why?”

She gives me a serene smile. “It does not matter now. I’ll be with the gods soon.”

“But I won’t. Your witches won’t. Willow won’t.”

“That is the problem. Willow won’t. You won’t. The fire that consumes the world is still coming, King.”

“We stopped it.”

“No,” she breathes. “The fire is yet to be born. Willow will give birth to it.”

My heart clenches and I have to force myself to breathe normally. “A c

Kane's POV:The witches aren’t like us. Watching them, I’m starting to understand Willow a little more. They don’t band together as we do, don’t find comfort in each other’s presence. Even the forest witches are like that. Together, but separate. No wonder she thinks she has to do everything alone, fix every problem herself. How terribly lonely her childhood must have been.I watch my mate wander aimlessly, talking to individual witches, but not really communicating with them. I find their interactions very strange. “King,” Susan whispers next to me.“Yes.”“What’s wrong with these people?”“I don’t know.”“Something’s coming,” Jackson says. “Can you feel it?”I nod. It’s in the air. A bitter taste that’s setting my nerves on fire.“Should we do something?” Glenn asks.

Kane's POV: I send Willow up to the apartment, give the Gammas orders to set up a extra guard rotations, and then try to mind link my mother. I haven’t spoken to her in days, but she is blocking me – no doubt pissed at me for throwing her mate in the dungeon. “James.” I turn to my butler. “See if you can find my mother. I need to talk to her.” “She’s in the dungeons with Bismarck, your majesty.” “Of course she is. Okay. You should get some rest too.” He bows and leaves. Off to do whatever it is a butler does. I’m exhausted, and it feels as if an off-key marching band is hammering out a melody against my skull. The pills I gave to Willow when she had her concussion are up in my room – I used to carry them on me at all times, but I forgot about the crippling headaches I used to get before she came into my life. Smiling at the memory of that first day, the way she let her inhibitions go and almost tried to inhale me feet and all. The way she looked at me, tempting Dario to the surfa

I wake slowly, struggling to open my eyes. The sun streaming in through the open windows pushes against my eyelids, and a fresh breeze cools my sweaty body. The air is quiet and clean. Finally managing to drag my lids apart, I turn my head to look at Kane, surprised to see he’s asleep. There are hundreds of witches right on our doorstep, and he… I blush and burn with shame when I remember my meltdown. I showed him my inside, revealed my vulnerabilities. I humiliated and weakened myself before him. Something I’ve never done. I try to roll off the bed, but Kane’s hand shoots out and grabs my wrist. “Where are you going?” he asks without opening his eyes. “To pee,” I snap. “Is that okay with you?” Groaning softly, he sits upright and looks at me. There are deep, black circles under his puffy eyes, and he’s paler than usual. “Don’t do that, Willow.” “Don’t do what? Pee?” “Be ashamed because you…bared your soul. It’s all right. That’s how it should be. I’m your mate…you can trust me.”

“Kane stop!” I scream. “She’s here to help. Don’t kill her.”Without letting go of Agatha, he turns his head to look at me, his eyes flashing. His anger washes over me like a tsunami, robbing the breath from my lungs, rendering me nearly boneless with fear. I’ve never felt rage like this before. “You let her in?”“No.” I gasp, trying to breathe through the anger waves hitting me one after the other. “She found her own way in through one of the secret passages.”Kane growls and turns away from me to look at Agatha, and I can breathe a little easier, but that watery numb terror doesn’t leave me. “Which one?” he asks. “How did you get past my guards?”To my surprise, Agatha only smiles. Gods, I’m ready to pee myself and she smiles. The woman’s not right in the head. “Let me go, and I’ll show you.”“No,”

Kane's POV: I didn’t think I’d be able to fall asleep again, but I do. When I wake several hours after going back to bed, the sun is setting. Shit. I didn’t mean to sleep that long. Physically I feel better, but I’m in a hell of a bad mood, and the headache hasn’t eased at all. While hunting around for my pills, I mind link with Glenn for a status report “Hey. Do you have a moment?” “Yep. What’s up?” “Did you get any rest?” “Some. You?” “Just enough to make me extra cranky. Have you checked in with the Gammas?” “Yeah. All is quiet.” I frown. The fact that the witches aren’t attacking us is making me uneasy. “That’s strange, right?” “Yeah. I’ve been thinking….Maybe they’re hiding themselves, you know? Like Moon Flower did. The witches can be right next to us and we won’t know it.” The thought did cross my mind. “Yes.” “Willow can sense them.” “Yes.” I have a sinking feeling I know where this is going. “Well, shouldn’t we send her out to take a look or something?” “Right int

Kane’s POV: I sit on the foot of the bed, watching Willow strip down to her underwear, ignoring the rising arousal at the sight of her naked body. For the first time, she looks uncomfortable and feels awkward in my presence. I don’t like it. “You know,” I say. “There was a time when I didn’t care about the feelings of the she-wolves I had sex with. If I wanted it, I just had to find the closest Omega. I always asked, of course, but none of them ever said no, and as long as they didn’t say no I was okay with it, even though I knew they only consented because I’m the king.” She looks at me, her green eyes troubled. “Where are you going with this?” “I do care now, Willow. If you’d rather not do this, we’ll find some other way.” “I don’t know another way.” “Then we fight like we always fight. I don’t want you to walk away feeling like I…violated you.” “It’s not rape if I consent.” She moves a large glass container she foun

When I step out of the bathroom after showering, Kane and the glass container are both gone. Frowning, I walk through the apartment to the living room. He’s sitting on one of the armchairs, his ankle resting on his knee, reading the little diary I fetched from the tower earlier. The small book looks like a miniature toy in his big hands. I don’t know where he showered, but his wet hair hangs across his forehead, and he looks delicious in a pair of jeans and a light blue sweater that accentuates his azure eyes. He lifts his eyes to look at me, a grim smile playing around his full lips. He is really not happy right now. “I’m trying my very best not to lose my temper,” he says. I open my mouth to say something, anything, but one look from him shuts me right back up. He clears his throat, his eyes falling on the diary. “He scares me. The intensity of his love overwhelms him at times, and he cannot control his wolf,” he reads. “I asked sister Agatha about it, seeing as sh

Agatha and the witches lit up the carnivorous common room and sit in a circle waiting for us. “Once upon a time, we took up this whole floor,” she tells the witches. “But we’d gather here in this room every night for prayers.” I glance at Kane. His mood hasn’t changed, and he hates being here with the witches. I reach out to touch him, but he flinches away from me. Despite what he said, I don’t think he’s fully forgiven me. Not yet anyway. “So how do we do this?” he asks, cutting off Agatha’s reminiscing, and putting the jar in the middle of the circle. Everyone gasps when they see it and whispers rise up around us like a breeze through the trees. Even Agatha looks surprised and unsettled by it. She hovers her hand over the container, her eyes lighting up. “Strong,” she says. “Like I suspected. The aphrodisiac makes all the difference.” “We didn’t use it,” Kane says. Agatha’s eyebrows rise up. “Interesting.” “I really don’t care about how interesting all of this is, Agatha. Let’s

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Thank you

Dear readers, I would like to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to read Willow and Kane's story. This has been one of the longest books I've ever written, and when I started out I did not expect it to turn into this epic saga, but I regret nothing. Nothing I tell you :). I fell in love with Willow and Kane, and I am genuinely sad to say goodbye to these two, but unfortunately all stories must come to an end. Thank you for your support througout this wild ride. It means the world to me. I hope you enjoyed reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it. Until we meet again. All my love, Celice

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Epilogue

Kane Madden, Lycan King of Felan, wakes up to an unearthly racket right outside his bedroom door. Slightly concerned, he glances at his heavily pregnant wife and smiles despite his annoyance at his oldest son’s shenanigans in the hallway. Willow Madden, his mate of fifteen years is heavily pregnant with their second set of twins, two boys this time, and Kane sincerely hopes this is the last time. Goddess knows he loves his children, all eight of them, and he’s sure he’ll love numbers nine and ten just as much, but it’s getting difficult to keep up with all the pups. They are exhausting. For a time, he was sure that they’d never have more children, but after one wild afternoon in the forest, Willow did get pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl, as their remarkable son predicted. She named the twins Josiah and Jocelyn, after the previous occupants of their home. Kane thought it was macabre, but Willow insisted, saying they had to honour their ancestors. That would be the same twins wh

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Chapter 328

It’s a beautiful summer’s day, and the drive up to the cabin is pleasant enough. Kane and I have found a peaceful kind of comfort in each other’s silence, and we rarely need to fill the quiet with inane background chatter. We are content, just being together. I inhale the lovely fresh air, remembering the first time I came here. The night Suri was born, the sheer exhilaration of feeling my wolf come to life...and that was all thanks to Agatha. Dear, sweet Agatha who never found a final resting place because we went to war and in the chaos, we forgot all about her. Our funeral home has since been bombed off the planet, and we just take care of our dead our own way as we'd done during the war. There aren’t that many of us left anyway. The few surviving wolves live here now, and those that refuse to come to safety are dying off – Templars bearing a lingering grudge either murder them, or the wolves yield to their unrelenting urge to join a good war. Kane once told me that wolves had be

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Chapter 327

Kane's POV I wasn’t sure what would happen in the months and years that followed after we signed the peace treaty, so we went with the tried and tested 'go with the flow' method. For a time, everything went back to normal. Drake and Patrick ran the business, and more and more my little brother took over my duties in the company. Proof, Willow liked to remind me, that Omegas are just as competent as any other wolf. The overseas wolves went home, and as soon as they were sure the threat had really passed, the European wolves followed suit. The only ones that stayed were the humans. I claimed the human town as part of my territory during the peace talks, and the residents now affectionately call it Wolftonia. Leif left, taking his strange sister with him. Only later did we learn that Silke’s time on earth was limited and that she had foreseen her own death long before she ever came here. Unbeknownst to all of us, including Willow, a völva’s dying energy projects outwards, and what we m

Adare runs around the garden with Roland. The two boys growl and stalk each other like prey. My motherly instinct is to jump up and stop them before one of them gets seriously hurt, but Rosie quickly grabs me and pulls me back to my chair. “No Queen,” she says. “That’s how they learn. They won’t hurt each other.” “Are you sure?” “I’ve seen them play this game a hundred times. I’m sure.” Dammit. My throat burns and I have to fight against the tears. I’m so happy that my son is home, but I’ve missed so much. He is the size of an average three-year-old and when I talk to him, I sometimes forget that he’s not even two yet. I choose not the think about it. I choose to focus on the here and now. My family is whole and complete and that's what matters “Mama! Look!” Adare squeals and tackles Roland to the ground. “Good job, buddy,” Kane says behind me. I look over my shoulder at my mate. “You’re back early.” “Yes. Peace talks broke down.” “Why?” “Clement wants my humans.” “I thought

Kane rolls over to my side and pulls me into his embrace. I don’t even bother to open my eyes. It’s been a wild few days. “Oh Goddess, no,” I complain. “Haven’t you had enough?” He laughs breezily in my ear. “Never…but for now, yes.” He flutters kisses over my jaw and neck. “How do you feel?” “Like I got run over by a penis-shaped bulldozer.” “Hey, you wanted it.” I finally manage to drag my eyelids apart. “I did.” I smile at my impressive mate. “The first two days were great.” “I know.” He rolls away and swings his legs off the bed. “The last day always feels more like a punishment than pleasure.” I turn over onto my side and stare at his broad back, the strong muscles flexing under his skin. “No regrets though, right?” He looks over his shoulder at me. “None.” He gets up and stretches, scratching his ass as he walks to the bathroom. A minute later, I hear him open the tap. We don’t have electricity yet, but I’m not so sure I miss it. Life is kind of peaceful without the cons

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Chapter 324

Kane’s POV I sit on the couch in the dark living room, watching the glowing embers in the fireplace, trying to ignore the call of Willow’s heat and the fever that's trying to consume me. I'd go to her, but she's still asleep. t’s not time, she can’t feel it yet, but she will in another few hours. I should be sleeping, prepare myself properly this time, but I can’t switch my milling thoughts tumbling through my head off long enough so I can go to sleep. I’ve already sent orders out to bring the power stations back online and ordered our army to stand its ground. There’s nothing else to do now but wait for Clement to come back so we can finish up the peace agreement. In the absence of entertainment or imminent danger, the only thing I have to keep myself occupied is my own thoughts, and all I can think about is the possibility that Willow will get pregnant. Here, in the quiet of the night, all by myself, I have to admit the truth. I never want her to get pregnant again – not becaus

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Chapter 323

Kane’s POV For the next few hours, we talk about the meeting with Clement, the future, and a whole lot of nothing. There’s something comforting in it, just friends having a chat about life, love, and everything in between. I glance at my watch, surprised to see that it was well past midday. “That’s it,” I say and get up, stretching my too-tight muscles. “We’re taking the week off. I don't know about you, but I've had enough of war to last me a lifetime.” “Shall I collect Adare?” Zael asks on our way out. “Not yet. I don’t…Willow thinks he’ll be safe here, but I want to make sure.” “If what she said about The Goddess is true, she’s probably right. She hasn’t been wrong so far, has she?” I scrunch up my face and rub my forehead. “I don’t know. I can’t think straight anymore.” Zael nods. “I know the feeling.” “Did you get any retaliation over the Raymond thing?” “Of course I did.” “And?” “And nothing. I handled it...it won't come back to you.” “Do you think this war is over?”

Kane's POVIt had been weeks since we slept comfortably, and even though we both sort of hinted at passing the night making love, neither of us could actually gather the energy to do more than snuggle down in each other’s arms. For the first time in weeks, perhaps months, I wake with a smile on my face, completely relaxed and almost happy. The only thing I need to complete my joy is my son, and he'll be here soon enough.I stretch languidly, and slip out from under Willow and go to the bathroom to get ready for my meeting with Clement. I hope against all hope that Willow misunderstood The Goddess and that there would be no human war. I hope, and I pray, that Clement would listen to my advice and stop it before it even starts. The castle is freezing, and I’m shivering so much that I cut myself several times while I shave. Rattling like an excited dog, I run back to the bedroom, pull an extra blanket over Willow, then rush to the closet so I can dress in one of my suits and my long, thi
