Kane's POV

“How many souls would we need?” Willow asks.

“Several thousand, priestess…per witch.”

I can already see all of Willow’s wheels spinning. “No,” I say. “We’re not going to do that. We're not going to kill thousands of innocent people just so we can kill thousands more. We’ll find another way.”

“King,” Emma says. “Millions will die if we don’t stop them.”

I stare at the witch. “You’ve been using that magic of yours too long. We value life, we don’t…snuff it out for the hell of it. Maybe the scientists have a way.”

“The experiments are held together with magic, strings, and glue. The only thing that will unravel that string is magic.”

“I do not care,” I hiss in the witch’s face. “I’m not killing thousands of people to power your…disgusting magic.”

“Kane, if we-”

I shut Willow up with one look.

She inhaled deeply and held her breath.

“The little girl, two-five-one-three, she said that you burn the failed experiments?” I ask.

“Yes,” Emma says and scrapes out the bottom

“Okay,” Kane says. “Tell us.” I look from my mate to Emma. “You know a way in?” I ask. “A safer way than the one we took?” “Yes, priestess,” she says. I nod and turn my back on her to look at the others. “We blow the place up. We have enough explosives to level a small city.” “It’s well guarded, priestess,” Emma says. “It would be impossible for you to take an army in there.” “And yet, Petal escaped and no one noticed,” Kane says. He's right, but she was just one little girl. An army of wolves and vampires won't go unnnoticed. “It’s a good idea, Willow,” he goes on. “Everyone who doesn’t die in the blast will be trapped. Hopefully.” "And we won't need an army," Zael offers. “But we will need an explosives expert,” Glenn counters. “Someone that can build bombs and know how to set timers, that kind of--” “Right here,” Zael says and lifts his hand in the air. We all stare at him with our mouths open in surprise. “What?” he asks. “It’s a hobby. Immortality gets boring. I’ll need so

The delicious smell of cooking food hits me when we step out onto the street. Kane lifts his nose into the air, smiles, takes my hand and walks me through the quaint little village to the town square. The locals’ shops, which were now cold, dark, and forlorn, surrounded the town square, and empty vendors’ carts, perhaps selling flowers or street food, still stood where the human occupants left them when the witches attacked. The scent that drew us here came from the gazebo, where a couple of Omegas set up a field kitchen, and something yummy bubbled in the large cast iron pots hanging over the fire they made.As wolves are prone to do, they started to gather in the same place, seeking comfort and companionship from each other. The square is buzzing with life with wolves are coming and going, laughing together and enjoying this rare moment of near-normalcy.I can spot the witches right away. After almost a year of fighting side by side with wolves, they haven’t changed much. They are

Kane's POV I hold Willow back when the others leave. I want to talk to her before tonight, before we drive a bomb the size of a small family car into the cave. I already know she’s going to shoot me down, but as always, I have to try or I won't be able to live with myself. “What are the words,” I ask as soon as we’re alone. “The words that open the door?” “Naturally.” “I’m not telling you.” I sigh. I don’t even know why I’m surprised. “Why do you feel like you need to go up there and do this?” "Why do you?" "Okay." I cross my arms over my chest. "Then we'll both stay." She laughs. “You're just trying to make a point. You would never let anyone go up there without you." She turns from playful to serious in an instant. "I have to do this, don't you see? My father helped to make that place. It’s my family’s legacy, and it’s my responsibility to dismantle it.” “No, my love, no…we don’t visit the sins of the father on the child.” She doesn’t answer me, but I can feel that stubbor

Kane's POV“Are you ready?” I call out to the witches that are still chanting.Zael finished his work, and I am eager to get going. We all are. The sooner we get this done, the sooner we can head back in the direction of the castle to take out the occupiers so we can finally get our home back.Alfred walks out of the forest with several dozen witches. They’re carrying large wooden crates with the bottoms, fronts and backs cut out. “Put these over the bomb,” he says with a grin.I cast a sceptical glance at the crates. “What does it do?”“You’ll see.” He winks at me. “Just do it. You'll like it, I promise.”“Oh-kay,” I reply and gesture some of the Alphas over to help.I summoned them to share our plan for the caves, and to give them orders. When we start to go up the mountain, they have to lead the rest of the wolves and witches to our next rendezvous point. I want everyone as far away from here as possible by the time that bomb detonates. Finally, I can’t avoid it anymore. I have to

The drive up the pass is bumpy, twisty, and dangerous. Despite the witches’ best efforts to defrost the road, some parts have frozen over again, and every so often, the truck slips on patches of ice, threatening to send us careening over the edge of the cliff. My nerves are shot, and I chew my nails down to the quick while Marlon slowly, but admittedly expertly, winds his way higher and higher up the mountain, bringing us ever closer to the caves and forcing me to face the reality of what's about to happen. The truck hits a bump, my teeth gnash down, and I tear the last good fingernail I’ve been gnawing on into the bed. I hiss loudly as a sharp pain shoots down my thumb, and suck on my bleeding nail. “Oh. My apologies…Queen,” Marlon says, his voice tinged with sarcasm. “Why are you even here, Marlon?” I ask. “It’s clear you’d rather be anywhere else, but here.” He doesn’t take his eyes off the treacherous road when he answers me. “It’s fight for you or fight for them, and right now

“Hold on,” Zael says. “We’re going for a little ride.”I look over his shoulder at the plume of dust reaching into the sky. The next moment I hear a loud boom and then the shockwave hits us.Zael rises up in the air, but he's a little too late. His grip tightens around me as we go hurtling head over ass through the sky towards the forest far below. Just before we crash into the trees, he turns around so he can take the brunt of the contact. It's a jarring ride, the branches of the trees ripping at my clothes and biting at my skin, but Zael's body cushions the worst of the blows.I hear Marlon and his vampire going past us, the vampire cackling like a maniac while the hapless human’s screams disappear into the distance. We crash through several trees before we finally come to a stop and tumble to the ground, inhaling dust and debris, the earth still rumbling under us. “I think the hive system is collapsing in on itself,” Zael says.A vampire falls out of the sky, right next to us. • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Chapter 319

Kane's POV When the dust finally settled, we could see how much damage the bomb had really done. The vampires took us back, getting as close as they could to show us the crater from above. The heat from the blast melted the snowcaps, and water ran down the newly formed rivers into the crater. We stayed in our camp for a few more days, waiting to see if any survivors would show up, but apart from the handful of mutants that escaped before we blew the place to kingdom come, it looked as if no one survived. More and more, Willow started telling me that this war had nothing to do with us anymore. She couldn’t explain to me why, when, or how things changed, just that it did. It took us weeks to make our way back to the castle. We had a few skirmishes on the way with isolated Templars and a few ill-prepared humans, but nothing serious, and nothing we couldn’t handle. It appeared as if the desire to kill us had left the humans, but they weren't the ones that concerned me. In the absence

Kane's POV“I need to take care of something,” Zael says while we wait outside for the warriors and witches to clear the castle.“What?” I ask.“Raymond.”“What about him?”Zael shakes his head and puts a finger to his lips. We’ve been here before, so I don’t push him. He’ll find a way to tell me when he feels it’s safe. He’s up and away before I'm done blinking.I look over to Willow who is sitting on the steps leading to the front door. She is still perfectly at ease. I don’t think she’s ever been this relaxed. “Are you okay?” I ask.“It bothers you when I’m not filled with angst and turmoil?”“Yeah,” I admit. “A little.”“Why?”I really have to think about it before I answer her. “I don’t know any different?”She laughs softly and leans back on the steps. Bracing herself on her elbows, she closes her eyes and turns her face to the sun. “I’m happy, that's all. The war is over, we're home. All I need now is my son and life will be perfect.”Glenn snorts softly. “I don’t think the war

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Thank you

Dear readers, I would like to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to read Willow and Kane's story. This has been one of the longest books I've ever written, and when I started out I did not expect it to turn into this epic saga, but I regret nothing. Nothing I tell you :). I fell in love with Willow and Kane, and I am genuinely sad to say goodbye to these two, but unfortunately all stories must come to an end. Thank you for your support througout this wild ride. It means the world to me. I hope you enjoyed reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it. Until we meet again. All my love, Celice

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Epilogue

Kane Madden, Lycan King of Felan, wakes up to an unearthly racket right outside his bedroom door. Slightly concerned, he glances at his heavily pregnant wife and smiles despite his annoyance at his oldest son’s shenanigans in the hallway. Willow Madden, his mate of fifteen years is heavily pregnant with their second set of twins, two boys this time, and Kane sincerely hopes this is the last time. Goddess knows he loves his children, all eight of them, and he’s sure he’ll love numbers nine and ten just as much, but it’s getting difficult to keep up with all the pups. They are exhausting. For a time, he was sure that they’d never have more children, but after one wild afternoon in the forest, Willow did get pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl, as their remarkable son predicted. She named the twins Josiah and Jocelyn, after the previous occupants of their home. Kane thought it was macabre, but Willow insisted, saying they had to honour their ancestors. That would be the same twins wh

It’s a beautiful summer’s day, and the drive up to the cabin is pleasant enough. Kane and I have found a peaceful kind of comfort in each other’s silence, and we rarely need to fill the quiet with inane background chatter. We are content, just being together. I inhale the lovely fresh air, remembering the first time I came here. The night Suri was born, the sheer exhilaration of feeling my wolf come to life...and that was all thanks to Agatha. Dear, sweet Agatha who never found a final resting place because we went to war and in the chaos, we forgot all about her. Our funeral home has since been bombed off the planet, and we just take care of our dead our own way as we'd done during the war. There aren’t that many of us left anyway. The few surviving wolves live here now, and those that refuse to come to safety are dying off – Templars bearing a lingering grudge either murder them, or the wolves yield to their unrelenting urge to join a good war. Kane once told me that wolves had be

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Chapter 327

Kane's POV I wasn’t sure what would happen in the months and years that followed after we signed the peace treaty, so we went with the tried and tested 'go with the flow' method. For a time, everything went back to normal. Drake and Patrick ran the business, and more and more my little brother took over my duties in the company. Proof, Willow liked to remind me, that Omegas are just as competent as any other wolf. The overseas wolves went home, and as soon as they were sure the threat had really passed, the European wolves followed suit. The only ones that stayed were the humans. I claimed the human town as part of my territory during the peace talks, and the residents now affectionately call it Wolftonia. Leif left, taking his strange sister with him. Only later did we learn that Silke’s time on earth was limited and that she had foreseen her own death long before she ever came here. Unbeknownst to all of us, including Willow, a völva’s dying energy projects outwards, and what we m

Adare runs around the garden with Roland. The two boys growl and stalk each other like prey. My motherly instinct is to jump up and stop them before one of them gets seriously hurt, but Rosie quickly grabs me and pulls me back to my chair. “No Queen,” she says. “That’s how they learn. They won’t hurt each other.” “Are you sure?” “I’ve seen them play this game a hundred times. I’m sure.” Dammit. My throat burns and I have to fight against the tears. I’m so happy that my son is home, but I’ve missed so much. He is the size of an average three-year-old and when I talk to him, I sometimes forget that he’s not even two yet. I choose not the think about it. I choose to focus on the here and now. My family is whole and complete and that's what matters “Mama! Look!” Adare squeals and tackles Roland to the ground. “Good job, buddy,” Kane says behind me. I look over my shoulder at my mate. “You’re back early.” “Yes. Peace talks broke down.” “Why?” “Clement wants my humans.” “I thought

Kane rolls over to my side and pulls me into his embrace. I don’t even bother to open my eyes. It’s been a wild few days. “Oh Goddess, no,” I complain. “Haven’t you had enough?” He laughs breezily in my ear. “Never…but for now, yes.” He flutters kisses over my jaw and neck. “How do you feel?” “Like I got run over by a penis-shaped bulldozer.” “Hey, you wanted it.” I finally manage to drag my eyelids apart. “I did.” I smile at my impressive mate. “The first two days were great.” “I know.” He rolls away and swings his legs off the bed. “The last day always feels more like a punishment than pleasure.” I turn over onto my side and stare at his broad back, the strong muscles flexing under his skin. “No regrets though, right?” He looks over his shoulder at me. “None.” He gets up and stretches, scratching his ass as he walks to the bathroom. A minute later, I hear him open the tap. We don’t have electricity yet, but I’m not so sure I miss it. Life is kind of peaceful without the cons

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Chapter 324

Kane’s POV I sit on the couch in the dark living room, watching the glowing embers in the fireplace, trying to ignore the call of Willow’s heat and the fever that's trying to consume me. I'd go to her, but she's still asleep. t’s not time, she can’t feel it yet, but she will in another few hours. I should be sleeping, prepare myself properly this time, but I can’t switch my milling thoughts tumbling through my head off long enough so I can go to sleep. I’ve already sent orders out to bring the power stations back online and ordered our army to stand its ground. There’s nothing else to do now but wait for Clement to come back so we can finish up the peace agreement. In the absence of entertainment or imminent danger, the only thing I have to keep myself occupied is my own thoughts, and all I can think about is the possibility that Willow will get pregnant. Here, in the quiet of the night, all by myself, I have to admit the truth. I never want her to get pregnant again – not becaus

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Chapter 323

Kane’s POV For the next few hours, we talk about the meeting with Clement, the future, and a whole lot of nothing. There’s something comforting in it, just friends having a chat about life, love, and everything in between. I glance at my watch, surprised to see that it was well past midday. “That’s it,” I say and get up, stretching my too-tight muscles. “We’re taking the week off. I don't know about you, but I've had enough of war to last me a lifetime.” “Shall I collect Adare?” Zael asks on our way out. “Not yet. I don’t…Willow thinks he’ll be safe here, but I want to make sure.” “If what she said about The Goddess is true, she’s probably right. She hasn’t been wrong so far, has she?” I scrunch up my face and rub my forehead. “I don’t know. I can’t think straight anymore.” Zael nods. “I know the feeling.” “Did you get any retaliation over the Raymond thing?” “Of course I did.” “And?” “And nothing. I handled it...it won't come back to you.” “Do you think this war is over?”

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Chapter 322

Kane's POVIt had been weeks since we slept comfortably, and even though we both sort of hinted at passing the night making love, neither of us could actually gather the energy to do more than snuggle down in each other’s arms. For the first time in weeks, perhaps months, I wake with a smile on my face, completely relaxed and almost happy. The only thing I need to complete my joy is my son, and he'll be here soon enough.I stretch languidly, and slip out from under Willow and go to the bathroom to get ready for my meeting with Clement. I hope against all hope that Willow misunderstood The Goddess and that there would be no human war. I hope, and I pray, that Clement would listen to my advice and stop it before it even starts. The castle is freezing, and I’m shivering so much that I cut myself several times while I shave. Rattling like an excited dog, I run back to the bedroom, pull an extra blanket over Willow, then rush to the closet so I can dress in one of my suits and my long, thi
