Chapter 241

Kane's POV

Patrick leaves a few minutes later. He is in a great mood, and why wouldn’t he be. He’s finally one of us, and he can openly become part of the tribe, instead of hiding from us every full moon. I have to admit that I look forward to running with him.

“Kane?” Willow asks. I still haven’t moved from my spot on the floor. “Are you okay?”

“No,” I say. “I’m fucking tired.” I look up at her. “Where’s Adare?”

“He’s asleep.”

She kneels next to me. Her fear matches mine. Neither of us have any idea what we’re supposed to do, how to handle our very special child.

I had all sorts of romantic notions about his first shift. I used to think about it all the time, and I looked forward to helping him through that all-important first shift. It’s a special time between father and son, and now it’s been ripped away from me. It hurts more than I thought it would. I keep telling myself it’s just a shift, it’s not that important, but it doesn’t help.
