Kane's POV

We stop at the first village we come across. Willow is exhausted and Adare needs proper nappies. The pup is fussy and starting to stink a little from the soiled clothes.

There are exactly three businesses in the little village. A pub, a clothing store, and a general store that sells everything from freezer meals to aspirin. Usually, I’d find a place like this charming, but I’m in too much of a foul mood today to enjoy it.

The old human behind the counter looks up when I walk in, a bell above the door announcing my arrival. I turn on the charm, even though I don’t feel like it. “Good afternoon,” I say.

The old man nods at me. “How ye doin’?”

I don’t answer him. He doesn’t really expect an answer, it’s just his way of saying hello. I walk down the isles, aware that the man’s eyes are on me at all times. I suppose I must look a bit suspicious in my filthy jeans and muddy t-shirt.

I grab some wipes and a box of nappies and take the few items back to the ancient register. “

We are home. Finally.Kane unlocks the door to our apartment and sends my guards on their way. “Tell Leo to send up someone else…tell him to choose only from the guards that volunteered to take the oath.”“Yes, your majesty,” Phillip says and disappears down the hallway.Tessa took care of the two Omegas we brought with us. “I want them to report to me tomorrow morning at nine,” Kane said.“Of course, your majesty,” Tessa agreed.“From now on, they’ll be the only two allowed to attend to me and the queen.”I could see the confusion on our butler’s face, but she didn’t question Kane, just kept agreeing with him.Sighing, Kane drops his bags and looks around the apartment. It’s clean, as always, but the Omegas couldn’t erase the traces of magic left behind. The shadows of the runes someone drew on the floor are still here, and I can see scorch marks left behind by candles. With Adare cradled in one arm, I hover my other hand over the spot, feeling the magic they left behind. It’s powerf

I sit at the kitchen counter, watching Kane prepare breakfast. It’s so normal that I can almost believe that we were never separated. Adare is bouncing on my lap, his legs and arms flailing around. “You are a busy boy today,” I say and hold him upright. The baby gives me a big, toothless grin that melts my heart. Kane looks up from the stove and smiles, but doesn’t say anything. The silence between us is natural and comfortable. I thought it would be weird to be back, but it’s the opposite. “I have to go find Tully later,” I say. “Apologise to her.”“Don’t the two of you share a mind link?”“We do, but she’s either blocking me or still asleep.”“I would rather you didn’t leave the apartment today, Willow.”I look over Adare’s head at my mate who is staring at me with a worried frown between his eyes. “I spent the last week locked up in a tiny room, now you want to do the same thing to me?”“It’s not forever…just until we have the castle fortified and a process in place to detect human

Kane's POVI reluctantly leave Willow and Adare. It would be best if I spend the day with my family, more specifically Willow, so I can reconnect with them, and give our heavy hearts some time to heal, but Jackson already texted me asking when we can talk. There’s too much to do, and I can’t wait until another attack before I do something about The Templars.Phillip and Arlene are already on their posts, standing on either side of the front door. “Good morning,” I grumble. “What are you doing here?”“Uh…guard duty, King,” Phillip says.“You’re supposed to be resting.”“We rested,” Arlene replies. “Now we’re back.”“We don’t trust the others, King,” Phillip adds.I can’t really give them a sermon on the issue of trust. I can barely bring myself to trust the ones I’ve known all my life. “Very well.” I sigh and rub my eyes. “I emailed you a list of the wolves that are allowed up here. No one else comes near my family.”“Yes, King,” they say at once.I drag my feet away from the apartment

Kane's POV I stop right outside the entrance to the dungeons. I really don’t want to do this. A death sentence would have been kinder. Banishing someone is not the same as exiling them – a banished wolf can still find sanctuary with another pack if the Alpha will have them, exile means no one will ever take my father in again. He’ll be less than a rogue. A nobody. Running for the rest of his life. I wait until Glenn joins us with Willow by his side and two of her guards, Remi and Julia, following closely behind. She has Adare strapped to her chest like always. I wonder how long she’s going to do that, but now isn't the time for that conversation. She doesn’t ask any questions, but takes my hand and gives it a squeeze. “Wait up here,” I say. “The silver cells are no place for a pup.” “Bring your father up. Let him meet Adare before he leaves.” Willow says through our mind link. “No. Why?” “Don’t you want your father to see his grandchild before he leaves?” “I…” The answer is that

The way Kane treated his father at the end there shocked me. I had gotten used to his kindness, or maybe I had just forgotten what he could be like when he’s angry, and he was fuming in those last moments. I don’t blame him for it, just like I don’t blame him for killing my father so brutally. “I have the council meeting,” he says as he walks me back to our apartment. “You should perhaps go and check on my mother.” “You said I have to stay in the apartment.” He shrugs and stops dead in his tracks. “I was wrong to make such demands. You should go on with life as you normally would if that’s what you want to do. All I ask are that you stay in the castle for now and always have your guards with you.” “Okay,” I agree. “Talking about mothers….Where’s mine?” Kane shrugs. “Somewhere in the castle.” “She’s not back in the dungeon?” Julia told me how Kane let my mother out to help them look for me. I still don’t trust her, especially not with Adare, but after what she’d done, no one will

Kane sits on his usual chair, elbows resting on his thighs, hands clasped between his knees. I just finished telling him about my mother, and he listened without interrupting me. Now, he has a deep frown between his eyes. “Did she say what it is she wants?”“No,” I answer. He’s worried about me. I don’t even pick up on a hint of concern for my mother’s motives. But why would he be worried about her, when she has them all fooled? “You’re sure something’s wrong though? It’s not just…you know, because of what happened?” He gives me an apologetic look.I know deep down he’s only asking the question so he can eliminate every other possibility, and it’s a fair question, but for some reason, I’m still pissed off beyond reason. “My instincts are never wrong. Never. I may not always know what’s going to happen, but I know when I need to listen to my inner voice and when I can ignore it…and I’m telling you, Kane, I cannot let this one go. She is up to something.”“Willow, are you--”“I swear to

Kane's POV I’ve never been this afraid in all my life. Seeing Willow’s misshapen wolf nearly sent me screaming down the halls. From what I could tell, Suri didn’t suffer any permanent physical damage from the collar, but she refuses to shift properly for some reason. No wolf has ever been so angry with their human that they’d destroy them in the way Suri just hurt Willow. I try not to gag as I wrap Willow in a thick blanket. The whole place stinks of blood and the decay of her organs. I tell Julia to fetch Rosie and Justine, then check on Adare, who slept through the whole thing before I go back to wait for the she-wolves. The two Omegas look around the apartment in horror. The walls are sprayed with crimson droplets, and Willow’s still lying in a puddle of blood and rotting organs. “What happened, your majesty?” Rosie asks and rushes over to Willow’s side, but tries to sidestep the blood. Justine takes her cue from Rosie and does exactly the same thing, though she’s less concerne

Kane kneels next to the patch of purple flowers and picks one. “Take this with you.” “Why?” “It’s The Goddess’s flower. It will help you make contact with her.” I hold my hand out, and he places the delicate little flower in the palm of my hand. “Thank you.” “I’ll be right here,” he says. He gives me a brief hug and without another word walks away to sit under a big tree with his back resting against the trunk, twirling his own little flower between his fingers. The others stayed with the cars parked further back, and won’t be able to see or hear anything. I didn't want them to come with us, but I wanted my mate here. Taking a deep breath, I step over the circle of flowers and into the clearing. Dark clouds roll over the effigy, obscuring her face. I don’t know if she’ll come to me tonight. Why would she? I was supposed to take care of her gift, and I didn’t. Folding the bloody blanket tighter around myself, I sit on the icy grass and clutching the flower to my heart, I start to

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Thank you

Dear readers, I would like to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to read Willow and Kane's story. This has been one of the longest books I've ever written, and when I started out I did not expect it to turn into this epic saga, but I regret nothing. Nothing I tell you :). I fell in love with Willow and Kane, and I am genuinely sad to say goodbye to these two, but unfortunately all stories must come to an end. Thank you for your support througout this wild ride. It means the world to me. I hope you enjoyed reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it. Until we meet again. All my love, Celice

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Epilogue

Kane Madden, Lycan King of Felan, wakes up to an unearthly racket right outside his bedroom door. Slightly concerned, he glances at his heavily pregnant wife and smiles despite his annoyance at his oldest son’s shenanigans in the hallway. Willow Madden, his mate of fifteen years is heavily pregnant with their second set of twins, two boys this time, and Kane sincerely hopes this is the last time. Goddess knows he loves his children, all eight of them, and he’s sure he’ll love numbers nine and ten just as much, but it’s getting difficult to keep up with all the pups. They are exhausting. For a time, he was sure that they’d never have more children, but after one wild afternoon in the forest, Willow did get pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl, as their remarkable son predicted. She named the twins Josiah and Jocelyn, after the previous occupants of their home. Kane thought it was macabre, but Willow insisted, saying they had to honour their ancestors. That would be the same twins wh

It’s a beautiful summer’s day, and the drive up to the cabin is pleasant enough. Kane and I have found a peaceful kind of comfort in each other’s silence, and we rarely need to fill the quiet with inane background chatter. We are content, just being together. I inhale the lovely fresh air, remembering the first time I came here. The night Suri was born, the sheer exhilaration of feeling my wolf come to life...and that was all thanks to Agatha. Dear, sweet Agatha who never found a final resting place because we went to war and in the chaos, we forgot all about her. Our funeral home has since been bombed off the planet, and we just take care of our dead our own way as we'd done during the war. There aren’t that many of us left anyway. The few surviving wolves live here now, and those that refuse to come to safety are dying off – Templars bearing a lingering grudge either murder them, or the wolves yield to their unrelenting urge to join a good war. Kane once told me that wolves had be

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Chapter 327

Kane's POV I wasn’t sure what would happen in the months and years that followed after we signed the peace treaty, so we went with the tried and tested 'go with the flow' method. For a time, everything went back to normal. Drake and Patrick ran the business, and more and more my little brother took over my duties in the company. Proof, Willow liked to remind me, that Omegas are just as competent as any other wolf. The overseas wolves went home, and as soon as they were sure the threat had really passed, the European wolves followed suit. The only ones that stayed were the humans. I claimed the human town as part of my territory during the peace talks, and the residents now affectionately call it Wolftonia. Leif left, taking his strange sister with him. Only later did we learn that Silke’s time on earth was limited and that she had foreseen her own death long before she ever came here. Unbeknownst to all of us, including Willow, a völva’s dying energy projects outwards, and what we m

Adare runs around the garden with Roland. The two boys growl and stalk each other like prey. My motherly instinct is to jump up and stop them before one of them gets seriously hurt, but Rosie quickly grabs me and pulls me back to my chair. “No Queen,” she says. “That’s how they learn. They won’t hurt each other.” “Are you sure?” “I’ve seen them play this game a hundred times. I’m sure.” Dammit. My throat burns and I have to fight against the tears. I’m so happy that my son is home, but I’ve missed so much. He is the size of an average three-year-old and when I talk to him, I sometimes forget that he’s not even two yet. I choose not the think about it. I choose to focus on the here and now. My family is whole and complete and that's what matters “Mama! Look!” Adare squeals and tackles Roland to the ground. “Good job, buddy,” Kane says behind me. I look over my shoulder at my mate. “You’re back early.” “Yes. Peace talks broke down.” “Why?” “Clement wants my humans.” “I thought

Kane rolls over to my side and pulls me into his embrace. I don’t even bother to open my eyes. It’s been a wild few days. “Oh Goddess, no,” I complain. “Haven’t you had enough?” He laughs breezily in my ear. “Never…but for now, yes.” He flutters kisses over my jaw and neck. “How do you feel?” “Like I got run over by a penis-shaped bulldozer.” “Hey, you wanted it.” I finally manage to drag my eyelids apart. “I did.” I smile at my impressive mate. “The first two days were great.” “I know.” He rolls away and swings his legs off the bed. “The last day always feels more like a punishment than pleasure.” I turn over onto my side and stare at his broad back, the strong muscles flexing under his skin. “No regrets though, right?” He looks over his shoulder at me. “None.” He gets up and stretches, scratching his ass as he walks to the bathroom. A minute later, I hear him open the tap. We don’t have electricity yet, but I’m not so sure I miss it. Life is kind of peaceful without the cons

Kane’s POV I sit on the couch in the dark living room, watching the glowing embers in the fireplace, trying to ignore the call of Willow’s heat and the fever that's trying to consume me. I'd go to her, but she's still asleep. t’s not time, she can’t feel it yet, but she will in another few hours. I should be sleeping, prepare myself properly this time, but I can’t switch my milling thoughts tumbling through my head off long enough so I can go to sleep. I’ve already sent orders out to bring the power stations back online and ordered our army to stand its ground. There’s nothing else to do now but wait for Clement to come back so we can finish up the peace agreement. In the absence of entertainment or imminent danger, the only thing I have to keep myself occupied is my own thoughts, and all I can think about is the possibility that Willow will get pregnant. Here, in the quiet of the night, all by myself, I have to admit the truth. I never want her to get pregnant again – not becaus

Kane’s POV For the next few hours, we talk about the meeting with Clement, the future, and a whole lot of nothing. There’s something comforting in it, just friends having a chat about life, love, and everything in between. I glance at my watch, surprised to see that it was well past midday. “That’s it,” I say and get up, stretching my too-tight muscles. “We’re taking the week off. I don't know about you, but I've had enough of war to last me a lifetime.” “Shall I collect Adare?” Zael asks on our way out. “Not yet. I don’t…Willow thinks he’ll be safe here, but I want to make sure.” “If what she said about The Goddess is true, she’s probably right. She hasn’t been wrong so far, has she?” I scrunch up my face and rub my forehead. “I don’t know. I can’t think straight anymore.” Zael nods. “I know the feeling.” “Did you get any retaliation over the Raymond thing?” “Of course I did.” “And?” “And nothing. I handled it...it won't come back to you.” “Do you think this war is over?”

  • Alpha of Alphas - The Lycan's Impossible Mate   Chapter 322

Kane's POVIt had been weeks since we slept comfortably, and even though we both sort of hinted at passing the night making love, neither of us could actually gather the energy to do more than snuggle down in each other’s arms. For the first time in weeks, perhaps months, I wake with a smile on my face, completely relaxed and almost happy. The only thing I need to complete my joy is my son, and he'll be here soon enough.I stretch languidly, and slip out from under Willow and go to the bathroom to get ready for my meeting with Clement. I hope against all hope that Willow misunderstood The Goddess and that there would be no human war. I hope, and I pray, that Clement would listen to my advice and stop it before it even starts. The castle is freezing, and I’m shivering so much that I cut myself several times while I shave. Rattling like an excited dog, I run back to the bedroom, pull an extra blanket over Willow, then rush to the closet so I can dress in one of my suits and my long, thi
