Chapter 9IRENE’S POVEthan drove me to his family’s “ancestral” mansion. This place was like a freaking castle. From the glittering walls to the enormous chandeliers, everything screamed royalty. Like, wealthy royalty. And seeing Ethan walk through it all unfazed somehow made him seem a thousand times more attractive. Although not just to me, because my eyebrows wrinkled in contempt when a lady draped in a very lacey, very revealing apparel came towards him, kissing his hand with a sly smile on her face. “Welcome back, Your Majesty,” she said, bowing her knees. What did she think she was even doing? This wasn’t the Roman Empire and my Ethan certainly wasn’t Augustus Caesar. He’s not your Ethan though, my brain offered.“Thank you, Guinevere,” he said, hands still in hers. “This is Irene, my mate.” A smile unintentionally came to my face when he slipped his hands out of hers and put his left one at the crease of my back to make this introduction.“Hi,” I said while nodding at her ver
Chapter 10IRENE’S POVI woke up suddenly to the sound of clanging bells and footsteps of people running and loud screaming. What the hell was going on? I walked up hurriedly to the doors but as I was about to swing them open, I stopped. What exactly was going on there? What if there was an actual vampire out there? Was I fortified to fight one off? Oh, fuck it. I’m one of the most powerful witches out there. Vampires had never scared me before. I reached out to open the doors but they wouldn’t budge. I looked in between the locks and found that they were locked from the outside. Why was I locked in? Ethan was definitely behind this. The screaming and hullabaloo outside were intensifying. Was this a normal thing on full moons? It was a full moon tonight? Maybe one of them was wolfing out--extremely? I thought about jumping out of one of the windows but they were too small, and not worth it. While I was worried, I wasn’t apprehensive because let’s face it, this is a wolf community. They
Chapter 11 I woke the next morning with a slight headache. I tried to open my eyes but I squinted at the impact of the light rays coming in through the window. I looked to my side and found that Ethan was no longer in bed with me. I stood up and went to search for some aspirin in the bag I brought along with me. I took two tablets with a glass of tap water and sat down on the bed, my head in my hands. I needed to get out of here right now. I quickly took a shower, brushed my teeth and looked for a change of clothes. I didn’t bring any of mine while coming. Ethan had assured me that I didn’t need to worry about any of that stuff. I looked into the walk-in closet and found a couple of plain white T-shirts and dark jeans. I tried putting them on. The jeans fit just fine, but the shirt was a tad bit too big. I took a look at myself in the mirror, ran a hand through my disheveled hair, and gave myself a non-committal shrug of disappointment. High libidos were a curse in disguise. I grabb
Chapter 12Derek and I had fun keeping our relationship a secret from my family and the rest of the witch community. He couldn’t come around my house anymore and I was never allowed at his anyway, so all our meet-ups had to be at all of Lafayette’s shady places. We planned dates without agreeing on their venues and because my aunties and other relatives owned shops and businesses around town, we couldn’t even take walks together during the day. We hung out mostly during the night--and I mean late into the night. I was very surprised I was even allowed by mom to keep such late nights but I guessed she left me to my own devices because she didn’t want me to be very depressed. Either that or she just didn’t notice. I couldn’t care less anyway. So, Ethan and I had our relationship on a nighttime basis. When everyone was asleep, I would wander out of our house into the entrance of the lonely community building. I usually carried my legendary diary so that no one would be too suspicious if
Chapter 13The interior of the cabin was just like my mom said, a wide space with shelves for walls. There were books everywhere. Everywhere. Some were piled up on the floor since the shelves were fall-filled up. I looked at Ethan, drawing a breath at the heavenly look on his face. Ethan had always had an affinity for books and anything readable. He always amazed me with the way he could read in five different languages but he strained himself to speak just one. Ever since I’d known him, he had spent most of his spare time with his nose stuck in a book. Now, as he stared around my dad’s cabin with the most awestruck look on his face, I knew he was the most beautiful boy to ever walk this planet. But I’m supposed to be a tough love girl, so I won’t ever tell him that. Instead, I settled on teasing him. “Hey, Ethan,” I drawled, a silly grin on my face. He looked at me, embarrassed. He started to apologize. I cut him off.“You got a little something there,” I said, pointing at my jaw ev
Chapter 14I took another look around the cabin, searching for a door that this peculiar key could open. When I found nothing, and none of my efforts proved to be progressive, I went back into the room to finish clearing up. I was able to move most of the books up to the shelves, and I even managed to stack them categorically. The place was looking great already, like a Gothic tree house. Then I started cleaning. I got a brush from a corner of the room where he probably kept his cleaning supplies. I swept out the dirt from under the table and chair and beside the shelves. But as I tried to reach under the bed, something was obstructing the movement of my brush. I tried to reach in again and maybe push the object out of my way, but it wouldn’t budge. Then, I decided to raise the mattress and see what exactly was under it.And I did. There it was, a bronze box--like a treasure chest--was staring back at me. My heart leaped over its cage. “What the…” I muttered. How many odd things can
CHAPTER 15.Irene's POV. I wore my jacket and looked outside, it was quite dark, the only light was the bright moon that I didn't bother staring at. Ethan held my hand and pulled lightly, I mistakenly tripped to the floor because I was absent-minded. "Ene, are you alright?" He asked and squatted beside me. I could see worry written all over his face as I raised my eyes to look at him. "Are you wounded?" He touched my body to confirm if I was fine, I knew he cared and I loved him for that. "No, I'm good it wasn't your fault, I was just a bit distracted by everything that has been happening and the strange things occurring are bothering me" I muttered anxiously. He helped me up to my feet and kissed my lips, it was one of those sweet and deep kisses that made my heart flutter. Our lips made a cute sound as he parted the kiss "I don't care about the weird drawing, cabin, funny and silly-looking creatures, or even your high-handed mother, I will be here to support and protect you,
Chapter 16Irena's POVI gulped as she kept banging on the door, I gripped Ethan's hand tightly. If she found him in my room, I would be dead. "Open this door now before I do!" My mom's voice was stern and unforgiving. I looked at Ethan, and he hugged me tightly before kissing me. At that moment, I felt alive, like nothing else mattered. But my moment of bliss was short-lived as my mom's chanting started, and Ethan leaped out of the window.I rushed to the window and watched as Ethan morphed into his wolf form in mid-air before hitting the ground. It was a rough fall, and I could feel it. Ethan ran away, disappearing into the night. My mom burst into the room, her eyes flashing with anger. "What are you doing, Irena?" she demanded."Nothing, leave me alone," I said, lying on my bed and hugging my pillows that still had Ethan's scent. I hoped my mom wouldn't notice the smell."Don't you dare lock the door again," my mom warned before storming out of the room.I lay there for a few mom
