CHAPTER 51Declan's POVI breathed out heavily and shook my head as I stood outside Roberta’s bedroom, preparing myself to go in and talk to her.It had been nearly three months since I first brought her home, and while I had let her wolf heal her speedily in the space of one week, I instructed the physicians to make sure she didn't heal as fast anymore. The dumb girl blamed her slow healing on her wolf, believing that it was dying because she had watched her children die and her mate had closed their bond so he wouldn't feel the hurt from watching her die too.She was so nice and trusting, it almost made me feel bad for using her to complement my plans. However, Vincenzo’s reign had started to crack from the minute he took her home to his pack, and if I did not milk that opportunity, then someone else would have. The way I saw it, the poor girl did not have a choice but to be used. If anything, she was lucky to end up with me who simply deceived her for information, instead of anothe
CHAPTER 52Declan’s POV I pushed the door to Roberta's room open and walked inside. She was sitting at the window, like she always did.I could not see her face, but just from the aura around her, I could sense that she was in a very gloomy mood. Her face did not immediately snap to the door when she heard it open like it usually did.She did not even twitch in her spot as I took steady steps towards her.“How are you feeling, Berta?”, I asked as I paced myself in her direction. I saw her body move up and down as she sighed heavily. She tilted her head to the side, still not turning around to look at me.I circled around her and stood in front of her, looking down at her face.“You know, I can't even feel him anymore”, she said.I continued to stare at her, taking my seat on the window pane gently.“I hate when you do that. I'm trying to look out of the window and you're obstructing my view”, she said. There was more than just a hint of irritation in her voice. In fact, she sounded
CHAPTER 53 Declan’s POV The next time that Sheila and I had a deep conversation was two years after I had confessed my feelings. That was around the time that Vincenzo had just been crowned the Alpha King. For some reason, he had decided to make round trips to all the packs under his rulership. He claimed it was to check the quality of life that his subjects lived, but we all knew it was a way of showing off to all the Alpha's in the colony. It was his way of letting them all know that he had sovereignty and supremacy. He wanted to prove to everyone that he could be directly under their roofs and they still would not be able to harm him.To think that I admired him for it, and even got excited when my father told me that I would have the honour of showing the new Alpha King around during his stay in our pack.I liked having Vincenzo around. He was a good figure to look up to.He was only a couple of years older than me, yet he had beaten down every wolf that dared to raise an eyebro
Roberta's POV:Happiness, a never attaining illusion that I had deceived myself into thinking I had finally attained. But such was never the tale of the pack reject. How did I get here where all I can do is watch my mate be happy in the arms of my cousin with everyone applauding them.Even the room that I was given, the first I ever owned, was being turned inside out as Charlotte stood guard for her minions to tear everything apart. But when a maid grabbed my most prized possession and I tried to rescue it, a hot slap was delivered and I could do nothing but take the hits from the one I once called my sister. The hits stopped and I heard Charlotte screaming at someone to get the f*** out. Whoever this stranger was, he didn't say anything to her but placed a hand on my face. Instant relief flooded my system.“I said, who the hell are you and what right do you have to interfere in my affairs?!" Charlotte screamed at the man whose presence screamed power. I did not know who this man was
Roberta's POV: Today was the day I was to leave, somehow I woke up and forgot all about Alpha Narcisse asking Alpha Sebastian to take me with him. His beta, Beta Manuel nicely reminded me when I nearly had a panic attack from seeing my things, or what was left of it outside the palace doors. But just to try my luck, I thought to talk to Elijah, maybe he could reverse this verdict. Even if it would be out of spite, I was willing to take that risk. What is the worst that could possibly happen anyway? After all I have heard of Alphas who rejected their moon blessed but kept them around the pack. I was willing to risk it. “Are you out of your fucking mind? Why do you think you can come in here in the first place? Did you hear me stutter when I rejected you? Get out of my sight, at least have the decency to go with the person that wants you for whatever reason!" Elijah said to me so heartlessly that I ran out of his room. This just got so much worse. Just as I ran out of the ballroo
Alpha Narcisse's POV:“My room is next door and can be accessed through here. You are welcome anytime." As soon as those words left my mouth, I wanted to slap myself across the face.Ever since I laid my eyes on this female at her rejection, there has been this inexplicable urge to draw close to her. Saving her from that pack remains my best decision yet. But keeping her safe was my next target. If she thought her pack was scary, they would eat her alive and spit her out in no time here. Exactly how I trained them to be. We did not get our title by sitting around campfires. And there was only one person that I could trust with this special assignment. Natalie, my second in command after Manuel. She was perfect for the job. I'll do that tomorrow or so, I need to ensure that she has settled into her new home properly.Just as I closed her room door behind me I saw Natalie walking towards my room. I guess I was doing it right now.“Alpha Narcisse, welcome home. Was your trip successful?
Roberta's POV: What just happened? I touched my lips that still tingled from the kiss that it was just given. Was he going to accept me as his mate or was I in for another rude awakening? I didn't lock the door when I came in so I slowly pulled the handle open and what I saw scattered the illusion that I was under. Alpha Narcisse was having a conversation with Natalie which immediately reminded me of her words when he left me alone with her for about two minutes today. “So you are the reject that he brought back? Don't think so much into it, you are yet another stray. I truly wonder what magic he expects me to perform with you." Natalie had said to me as her face had taken a sneer. But the second I felt Alpha Narcisse's eyes on me, her language changed and her face brightened like I had imagined her words. What in the world was happening? But seeing him outside his chambers at this time was telling me that she was more than just an assistant. There was a relationship there
Alpha Narcisse's POV: It was getting more difficult for me to spend some time with Roberta these days because of work. Yesterday I noticed some bruises on her arms and when I asked her she said it was nothing. Silly girl, when was she going to learn that she was a terrible liar. Manuel told me about the incident at the market. I was mad, not just because it happened but because they didn't defend themselves. What exactly has Natalie been doing with her these days?! Natalie strode into my office at that moment. “Alpha Narcisse, it looks like you need a break." Natalie said to me as she got on my desk and crossed her legs at her knees. The gesture made the coat she wore to open up and reveal the garter she had on. I turned away and picked up the documents I was working on earlier. “Come on, it's been far too long. I know you miss it too." Natalie said to me and went on to unbutton the coat. “Go away, Natalie. I'm working." I said to her with disinterest because she was definitel

CHAPTER 50Manuel's POVI sat in front of the table by my mirror once again, tapping my fingers restlessly against the finely polished mahogany. The moonlight only seeped in mildly through the corners of my curtain. My scarcely lit room seemed bigger and more empty than usual. A lone lamp hung at the centre of the room. Its yellow light did very little to brighten up the room. In fact, it only made me feel sick to my stomach. I stared at my reflection in the mirror and sighed wearily.I had a huge pair of eye bags, hanging loosely below each of my eyes.My skin was remarkably darker than usual and my eyes looked dull and empty, as if they held no life at all.It had been a whole week since the tragic and painful news of Vincenzo's death reached me. I had not been able to be the same ever since then.It did not take me very much thinking and reminiscing to realize that the person I was, the person I had grown up to become was completely tied to him.As soon as I found out that Vincenz
CHAPTER 49 Charlotte's POV After I let Tarik take me to places that I had never imagined I would be before, I darted out to see Declan at his pack. The ride was not a long one, since our packs were basically neighbours. I clicked the heel of my shoe on the floor of his courtyard restlessly as I sat on his stupid concrete bench, waiting for him to show up. Declan always liked to keep me waiting when I showed up at his courtyard to meet with him. It almost started to seem like he didn't really have anything else to do, but he just liked to know that someone was waiting for him to show up. While Tarik was working his magic between my legs, my brain was cooking up the very worst case scenario. Vincenzo was alive, and I was the only one who knew it. Well, that dumb maid possibly knew it too, but she was only as good as nobody to me. Even though he seemed like he was easily pushed out of his position as the Alpha King by Manuel and the rest of the council members, I was still very
CHAPTER 48 Charlotte's POV I walked through the hallway of my palace, gliding happily along the way. I hummed a lively tune as I strutted happily. I could hear my guards following me and the sound of their heavy boots hitting the floor added a little rhythm to the tune I was humming. Many of the Alphas I had come across after conquering my territory told me that it made them feel weird to have their guards follow them around all the time. Some of them had even instructed their guards to be as stealthy as possible so that they didn't even know they were there. I found that to be a very strange thing. I liked having my guards follow me around. I liked the constant scent of blood and danger that lingered on their bodies. The steady trodding of their footsteps behind me as I walked made me feel like the most important person in the room. People only walked like that after important people. I had toiled for most of my life just to get to where I was. All the work would have been
CHAPTER 47Manuel's POVI looked at the faces of the Alphas who sat in the courtroom and studied their expressions. They all had the same look on their faces. They were all angry. They felt like I had robbed them of something they had been waiting for so long to claim, yet none of them had the balls to lead the rebellion against me.It was comical that they looked at me with disdain, like I had committed the biggest sin against them. It was very big of them to think that even if, for some reason, I were to throw in the towel and let someone else have the mantle of leadership, they would even be considered for it.“Well? Why are we here?”, I asked again.I sat up and subtly flexed my muscles in an attempt to instil intimidation amongst them. A few of them had started to gain a little confidence, but after my minor display, I could see their resolve sink back into their stomachs.
CHAPTER 46Manuel's POVI sat down in front of my mirror as I stared at the blank piece of paper in front of me.I held a feather pen over it, chewing on my lips and tapping away at the table, not knowing how to even begin my composition. After Vincenzo had left the palace in defiance of my appointment, I had sent him a message just to be sure that he was safe.He wrote me back after that, letting me know that he had found a place to settle for a while. He took the time to express his support for me and how sorry he was that he had lashed out at me in that manner. After that, we had sort of continued to send each other messages back and forth on ravens, talking about everything we could.I wrote to him about the happenings in the pack and how it was going for me as I tried to lead people fairly. He in turn, wrote about his challenges in the wastelands, the outcasts he came acr
CHAPTER 45Charlotte's POV “How many days has it been since I sent men to the wastelands to kill Vincenzo?”, I asked lowly.“Answer me”, I yelled, my voice thundering through the hall.Denzel, my second commander, stood in front of me, shivering like a pig.He had been stripped down in the courtyard to only his underwear. Two hefty guards stood behind him with a drum of water and a small bowl which they used to scoop the water and pour it on him as he shivered.“It must feel so uncomfortable, being made to stand naked and have cold water repeatedly thrown at you, especially since it's freezing outside”, I said.He shivered nonstop and just looked at me. He was unable to even mutter a word.I sighed wearily and nodded slightly at one of the guards. He turned to the drum of water and plunged the bowl into it, taking up a lot of water with him.Just as he was about to throw it all at the man who stood quietly and shivered in the middle of the courtroom, the doors flew open and one of th
