Kate POV
It was a long night watching over Amelie but gratefully she didn’t have any more episodes. If anything, she’s been resting very comfortably, and it seems like the antidote for wolfsbane is working. Colby and I haven’t spoken since last evening. His words were spoken coldly, and I really had nothing to offer him at this point.
Miranda was arriving this morning and I would take her around the Pack house to see whether she could figure anything out that would help with the mystery. I stood up stretching when Colby turned to look at me. He didn’t say anything just stared. I moved around the bed and went to wrap my arms around his neck. He didn’t reject me, like I expected he would, but he didn’t touch me either.

Drake POV As we were in a countdown to the time to go to meet with the rogues, I had returned without Maddie to the Red Moon Pack. She had been reluctant to go back even though I wanted her with me. She had gained some confidence with her independence, which I was glad to see. And that meant her deciding what she wanted to do versus someone telling her what she had to do. I hadn’t shared anything with her about the rogues. As she wasn’t coming with me, I didn’t see any need to stress her out. She had been training hard this past week and had come a long way. I realize she doesn’t fully understand where she came from, particularly without a clear DNA test result; however, she clearly has Alpha blood in her veins. She was a natural at a lot of the work we have been doing. Next, we wil
Kate POV Moving back toward the Pack hospital, I consider what to share with Colby. He will be furious that I left without him. He’ll be more furious to know I had brought the rogues with me from the Golden Moon Pack. I was furious that they had the nerve to bring this fight here. And Amelie was hurt in the crossfire. As I got to the hospital, I once again smelled Josey. It was faint, but I knew she had been here. I entered Amelie’s room to see she was still resting. I look at Colby and can feel his anger. “You just had to go off on your own, didn’t you?” he demands standing up and getting into my space. “I was hardly alone Colby, I had Seth and Reg with me along with our warriors,” I reply calmly. Looking ar
Kate POV As I leave Colby in Amelie’s hospital room, I head back to the Pack house. I need to get a shower and speak to Drake about what happened at the Red Moon Pack tonight. I walk through the lobby of the Pack house and notice Josey coming out of the office area. “A little late to be working, isn’t it Josey?” I ask. She lives in a small house on her own and would have no reason to need to be here at this time of night. “Kate, you know me; it’s never too late to be working,” she says laughing. “I truly hope Amelie is alright,” she says. “Good news, she woke up not long ago. She’ll be able to give Colby a better idea who might have hurt her,” I reply to her. Seeing a shadow cross over her face, I wonder what she’s hiding and how much she was involved with Amelie’s poisoning.
Drake POV We had been searching for hours for signs of Maddie. She had been missing for eight hours now. A lot could happen in eight hours. She could be dead. But I would feel that through the mate bond, and I wasn’t feeling that she had died. I was so pissed off at everyone, but it was nobody’s fault but my own. I should have forced her to come with me. I never should have left her alone. Being so arrogant and thinking I could keep her safe here infuriates me. Now she was missing. She would be afraid. She had not been away from her family for any amount of time and not away from me since we had met. She had to know we were looking for her. She had to feel that. Alpha Samuel and Luna Jasmine were searching with us. They still had the ability to mind-link with her,
Drake POV We had just finished searching the first location with no luck. Maddie’s scent was faintly still there. At first, I had been so excited and convinced she was there, but someone had spread enough of her scent around to tease our senses. I was at least hopeful we were on the right track in trying to find Maddie. Alpha Samuel had been discouraged when we hadn’t found his sister there. We had tried tracking her phone, but her phone had been turned off and anything we could use to identify her location had been removed from the phone. We would keep checking in case it got turned back on again. We had not heard from the rogues for any demands. If it was money they wanted, I would pay to get Maddie back safely. I want
Kate POV Moving toward the conference room, I see both Alpha Reid and Beta John sitting at the table discussing the rogue they have in the cells. As I move forward, I notice Reid is sitting to my left and John to my right. I start business off as it should be started, I invite Alpha Reid to sit at the head of the table. He is confused and trying to refuse but I won’t take no for an answer. “Alpha Reid, Beta John, I have something I need to discuss with you both today and I want complete honesty from you,” I start. “I have come to realize a few things about myself. I am a bit of a control freak,” I say laughing at the expressions on both of their faces. “I believe I have also hindered your growth in your roles,” I say quietly. Both men look down at the table without making eye contact with me.
Drake POV We walked as far as we had to get to the where the SUVs were waiting. I offered multiple times to carry Maddie, but she refused, thanking me just the same. Her feet were bare; Jasmine had offered to give her shoes to Maddie but again Maddie declined. She was being incredibly strong for everything she had been through. We all walked in silence. I desperately wanted to question her about her experiences but didn’t want to do so in front of everyone. She let me hold her hand, which I did the entire time. Even when I went to help her inside the SUV, I helped her and nudged her over, so I didn’t lose contact with her. Her hand had warmed up considerably since I was holding it, I just wanted to get her home and to the Pack hospital. Having no idea what she endured, she needed to
Drake POV As we move towards the bathroom, Maddie starts stripping off her clothes. She must have thrown her undergarments out because she was bare beneath the scrubs. As wolves we are used to being naked and we should be comfortable in our own skin. But this was the first time we would see each other naked. She was beautiful. The cuts and bruises pissed me off. Knowing what she had endured, and that Marsha had had a hand in it kept bringing my wolf to the front in anger. I was still thrown off with Maddie’s scent not being there. It was making my wolf Ben feel weird as well. I would mind-link the doctor after to ask if anything came up in the tests around that. I didn’t know how long it would take for her scent to return. I hoped it wouldn’t be long, I had missed her scent while sh
