Kate POV
Colby and I had a whirlwind trip visiting the various Packs for the first few days. We visited four Packs in three days. All Packs had both an Alpha and a Luna. The hospitality was amazing. We ended up staying at a couple of the Packs overnight. The kindness bestowed upon us was second to none.
I thoroughly enjoyed my role of Luna while visiting the Packs. Some Packs had their Luna attend the business meetings and a couple opted to host me elsewhere. I was fine with either option. Colby was very forthcoming in sharing anything of peculiarity. We liked bouncing ideas off one another and I valued him more for respecting my opinion. So whether I attended a meeting or not, I still understood the business challenges discussed.
The Red River Pack was up next. We were just arriving to the Pack territory. Much

Kate POV Slamming my fist on the Pack house door, I demand that Alpha Jordan explain himself. After seeing Alpha Jordan would not be opening the Pack house door, I turn to storm down the stairs as Colby keeps pace with me. “What the hell did that mean?” I ask him not expecting an answer. Who the hell knew what it meant? “Kate, he is likely just being an ass. He’s too young to have known your father,” he reminds me. “He is so out of the alliance, Colby; he’s a neanderthal,” I say to him as Colby opens the door for me. He chuckles at me as I turn to look back at the Pack house to see Jordan in the window of his office, smiling at me as he waves. Colby catches the gesture and nudges me to get into the SUV. Colby gets into t
Colby POV “She was poisoned,” Kate says. Why the hell would someone poison a little girl? “No, that’s not possible,” I reply in complete denial. “It’s the only thing that makes sense, Colby,” she replies. “It makes no sense, Kate. Who would do this to a little girl?” I demand. I am outraged that my little girl has been hurt and I can’t do anything to fix it. “What are you doing now?” I ask the Pack doctor. She had Amelie removed from the ice bath. “Now we treat her, as best we can, with the poison in her. I can only hope the damage is limited, given the time the wolfsbane has been in her system,” she says as she helps the nurses prepare Amelie to be taken back to her room. “What does that mean? It only
Kate POV I head back to the Pack house wanting to change out of my business suit. I am feeling anxious over Amelie and need to feel comfortable in my skin. I knew the next 48 hours would be critical and telling if she would survive the wolfsbane poison. Her not surviving is not an option and I refuse to believe she won’t survive. As I enter our room, I am overcome with the scent of Colby. I know he’s angry at everyone right now, but it hurt to have him shut me out. We need each other and shutting down is not going to help Amelie. I toss my clothes into the laundry basket as I grab a quick shower rinsing off the day’s travels. I quickly dry my hair and brush my teeth as I put my hair up into a high ponytail. Whatever is easiest for the next couple days, is my goal. &nbs
Kate POV It was a long night watching over Amelie but gratefully she didn’t have any more episodes. If anything, she’s been resting very comfortably, and it seems like the antidote for wolfsbane is working. Colby and I haven’t spoken since last evening. His words were spoken coldly, and I really had nothing to offer him at this point. Miranda was arriving this morning and I would take her around the Pack house to see whether she could figure anything out that would help with the mystery. I stood up stretching when Colby turned to look at me. He didn’t say anything just stared. I moved around the bed and went to wrap my arms around his neck. He didn’t reject me, like I expected he would, but he didn’t touch me either. As
Drake POV As we were in a countdown to the time to go to meet with the rogues, I had returned without Maddie to the Red Moon Pack. She had been reluctant to go back even though I wanted her with me. She had gained some confidence with her independence, which I was glad to see. And that meant her deciding what she wanted to do versus someone telling her what she had to do. I hadn’t shared anything with her about the rogues. As she wasn’t coming with me, I didn’t see any need to stress her out. She had been training hard this past week and had come a long way. I realize she doesn’t fully understand where she came from, particularly without a clear DNA test result; however, she clearly has Alpha blood in her veins. She was a natural at a lot of the work we have been doing. Next, we wil
Kate POV Moving back toward the Pack hospital, I consider what to share with Colby. He will be furious that I left without him. He’ll be more furious to know I had brought the rogues with me from the Golden Moon Pack. I was furious that they had the nerve to bring this fight here. And Amelie was hurt in the crossfire. As I got to the hospital, I once again smelled Josey. It was faint, but I knew she had been here. I entered Amelie’s room to see she was still resting. I look at Colby and can feel his anger. “You just had to go off on your own, didn’t you?” he demands standing up and getting into my space. “I was hardly alone Colby, I had Seth and Reg with me along with our warriors,” I reply calmly. Looking ar
Kate POV As I leave Colby in Amelie’s hospital room, I head back to the Pack house. I need to get a shower and speak to Drake about what happened at the Red Moon Pack tonight. I walk through the lobby of the Pack house and notice Josey coming out of the office area. “A little late to be working, isn’t it Josey?” I ask. She lives in a small house on her own and would have no reason to need to be here at this time of night. “Kate, you know me; it’s never too late to be working,” she says laughing. “I truly hope Amelie is alright,” she says. “Good news, she woke up not long ago. She’ll be able to give Colby a better idea who might have hurt her,” I reply to her. Seeing a shadow cross over her face, I wonder what she’s hiding and how much she was involved with Amelie’s poisoning.
Drake POV We had been searching for hours for signs of Maddie. She had been missing for eight hours now. A lot could happen in eight hours. She could be dead. But I would feel that through the mate bond, and I wasn’t feeling that she had died. I was so pissed off at everyone, but it was nobody’s fault but my own. I should have forced her to come with me. I never should have left her alone. Being so arrogant and thinking I could keep her safe here infuriates me. Now she was missing. She would be afraid. She had not been away from her family for any amount of time and not away from me since we had met. She had to know we were looking for her. She had to feel that. Alpha Samuel and Luna Jasmine were searching with us. They still had the ability to mind-link with her,
Kate POV We got the call two days later that Lily was in labour. Colby had been trying to convince me not to go. Lily would understand that he wanted me close to the Pack house and doctor. We both were anxious after our last loss, but we had to recognize that was a situation that happened to us. Not something that meant there was something wrong with the pup or me in terms of carrying our pups. Amelie was over the moon when she found out we were expecting. To find out we were having two pups was a surprise but a great one at that. Amelie asked repeatedly if she could name them. Considering the last stuffed animal she received, she named gremlin, we are trying to gently tell her no. But it made us chuckle last night as we considered the names she would come up with. We haven’t started thinking about names yet. We don’t know if it’s two boys, two girls or one of each. And we haven’t decided if we want to know what they are before they are born.
Kate POV It had been a couple months since everything had happened. From the DNA test results, to Caleb’s son being the mastermind behind all that had happened. Maddie and I had a chance to grow closer over the past couple months. Beta Ralph had been disappointed he had not ended up being Maddie’s father. Unlike my father who had begrudgingly made an effort to speak with her a couple times. Maddie was not interested in him as a father figure and that suited my father as well. Although he was a little surprised, she was so independent. I was proud of her. She has continued with her therapy and had healed physically from her injuries. Alpha Samuel has been able to shift. He still struggles with his leg but the chance to shift has really helped with his outlook on life. And from what I understand it helped Jasmine and his relationship. Samuel did banish his father when they returned to their Pack; however, another Pack accepted his mother and father
Maddie POV Grabbing Drake’s arm, “There has to be another way,” I murmur to Drake suddenly terrified of the ramifications if he does not win. Not that I would be the property of this rogue, but that I would lose my mate. I cannot live without Drake. We just started our lives together. And what the hell was the purpose? “What the hell is the point of all this?” I say to the man standing in front of us smirking. “The point is, Maddie dearest, that I get the final revenge on a group of wolves who have done nothing but look down on my family,” he says coldly. “Who are you?” Kate asks taking a step closer. Colby grabs her arm, holding her where she was. Turning to look at Kate, he takes a step forward. Everyone tensed up as he continued to stare at Kate. “You don’t recognize me, Alpha Kate?” he says smugly. “You look familiar, but it cannot be,” she says. “Why can’t it be? Did you think they would to be loyal to one another after everyt
Kate POV “It is you, isn’t it?” I ask Troy. “Who?” Maddie asks me. “He’s the mystery man working with Dr. Langille,” I conclude. “No, I am not, but I am the man working for him,” Troy replies coldly. “What the hell are you talking about?” Alpha Jax asks Troy. Troy looks at him condescendingly, “You stupid, old man. Who in their right mind tries to interfere with a mated couple? I will say you provided the avenue for us into your life and in turn Maddie’s life,” he says. “You aren’t in Maddie’s life; I don’t know who the hell you are, nor do I care, but you won’t be leaving here,” Drake says. I can tell he is mind-linking his warriors to come remove Troy. I want more answers before that happens. “Who do you work for?” I ask Troy. He laughs, “I work for a powerful man. One who wants Maddie and in turn will take Red Moon Pack,” he concludes. “Like hell they will,” we all turn shocked to see Samuel walking in the door with Jasmine at his
Maddie POV It had been an amazing vacation with Drake. I cannot wait to go again. I loved all his surprises and most importantly our time together. I had heard from Kate. She and Colby were arriving shortly for a quick visit. They were stopping to see her parents first at the Golden Moon Pack, Kate had some paperwork to sign for Alpha Reid and then would be coming over here. She had some information on who she believes is the man who Dr. Langille referred to, but she did not want to discuss it on the phone. Drake had just received a mind-link that our guests were here. I was surprised it was so quick as we had just spoke with Kate that she was on her way, and we were about an hour from the Golden Moon Pack. Drake and I went out to the entrance to await their arrival. We saw a lone car coming up the street, which was odd. Kate and Colby always travelled with additional warriors given the size of Colby’s Pack and the link to the Golden Moon Pack.
Kate POV Getting Amelie ready for bed had been a chore. She had found out we were at her school visiting her teacher and wanted to know why. Obviously, we did not tell her the reason. We simply told her it was a check-in to see how Amelie was doing and that we found out her teacher was moving to a new Pack. Yes, on the drive home Colby had made the decision to relocate Ms. Cooper. He would not make her rogue, but he would find a Pack within his network that would be better suited for her. And no, she would not be teaching school children. He had already arranged to meet with Ms. Cooper first thing tomorrow morning to advise her of the change. This satisfied Amelie and we spent an hour reading before she fell asleep. I sat there just holding her while she had drifted off to sleep. I could not wait to give her a younger sibling. I knew we weren’t her birth parents, but she felt like my own and I would always treat her like she was mine regardless of ho
Maddie POV We had arrived at the beach late yesterday. We got here in time to watch an amazing sunset. I could see why the beach was so captivating for Drake. The smell of the ocean breeze was incredible, and I was amazed that it was what he smelled when he first scented me as his mate. I sat between Drake’s legs, his arms wrapped around my waist as we just sat and listened to the waves as they rolled up the shore. Drake had rented us a cottage that was secluded from other vacationers. He had been here years before and wanted to show me. He also teased me that he had lots of activities planned that required privacy. I didn’t care. This was the most amazing surprise I have experienced. I was willing to try everything he wanted to do. No matter how much it pushed me out of my comfort zone. My mate was amazing. He had been incredibly supportive while I continued to heal. I could not have asked for more from him. We walked up the beach a
Samuel POV “You may never shift again,” the specialist had told me months ago. I had been hearing this phrase over and over on a permanent loop in my mind. I could not focus on anything else. I could not imagine how effective I could be as an Alpha for my Pack without the ability to shift. I was so angry at everyone and taking most of my anger and frustration out on Jasmine. My heart sank as I knew I had treated my mate horribly yet again. I was getting to a point where I could no longer apologize for my behaviour, and I could not stand myself. I had my appointment today with my specialist. I was going to find out if the exercises and all the extra work had paid off or if I was destined to be an Alpha with a wolf who could not shift. Or if I would get the chance to try, once again, to shift. I did not know if Jasmine would come with me to today’s appointment. I had been particularly nasty this morning and I knew through our bond she was still very hu
Maddie I could not believe it. Kate and I were finally confirmed as being siblings. When we had told Alpha Jackson and Beta Ralph the results, I felt a little sorry for Beta Ralph. I think a part of him had hoped I would be his daughter. It was clear that the previous DNA results had been tampered with and we had no reason to doubt these results. Kate was still searching for the identity of who the “he” was who tampered with the previous results. She was concerned he could still be a threat. She was also going after Dr. Langille for misconduct. I was sorry that I had not known my birth siblings better. Or experienced them in a better light. Had we had the opportunity to grow up together, things would have been so much different and hopefully better. But at least I have one sibling I can get to know and grow older with. Drake was still working with the rogues. The Pack he had thought might take them had refused most of the members. Th
