Chapter 2

Penulis: Rosamund
I don't know how long had passed when I finally woke up.

Under the harsh moonlight, I heard my mother and brother whispering nearby.

"Mother," my brother whispered, his voice tight with worry, "Lisa just had her kidney removed... are we really going to release the soulbloom spores during the next full moon?"

Soulbloom. That’s what they called the vision-sharing herbs. Tiny, silver-dusted flowers that only bloomed under the full moon and released spores capable of connecting minds. For one night, whoever inhaled them could see another's memories—feel what they felt, live what they lived.

There was a long silence. Then my mother's voice, choked with fake sorrow:

"We have to. Lisa was supposed to mate with Alpha Kain. Her reputation has to be destroyed—only then will he accept Xina."

"She'll be branded a rogue-lover for life anyway. Might as well use her to pave the way."

Then she gently stroked my fur.

"Oh, and once it's all out, make sure to get her a pack healer for her mind. She's still my cub, after all. It breaks my heart."

After they left, I slowly opened my eyes.

There was a dull, empty ache where my kidney used to be.

I bit my lip hard to hold back the tears.

I really couldn't understand…

I'm her daughter. Born of her blood.

But for Xina—who wasn't even part of our bloodline—she drained my bone marrow, took my kidney, and crushed my wolf spirit.

And now she wanted to destroy my soul too.

Why?

"Lisa! How could you do this to me?!"

I looked up. It was my mate-to-be—Alpha Kain.

My heart fluttered. Thank the Moon Goddess… he's here.

No matter what the pack thinks, at least he'll believe me.

I opened my mouth to speak—

But his words stabbed me cold.

"You contaminated wolf."

"We've been promised to each other for so long and you never even let me scent you. Then you run off to rogue territory and let their filth touch you? Have you no honor?"

The love in his eyes was gone.

All that remained was disgust.

I trembled, shaking my head.

"No… it's not like that. Please, just let me explain—"

His eyes were like knives, slicing me apart.

"Explain what?"

His hands gripped my throat like a vice, his voice seething:

"Why would you betray our packs like this?!"

The pain was too much. My tears fell onto his hands.

He suddenly let go, stepped back, and looked at me with a complicated expression.

But I was already done hoping. Nothing I said would matter now.

That's when his sister, Delta Leona, barged in with her pack-mates.

"Well, well, Lisa," she sneered. "You had the nerve to let rogues mate you, and now you're playing the victim? You think our Alpha bloodline would ever accept damaged goods like you?"

She'd always hated me—best friends with Xina since they were pups.

Now that I was down, she didn't hold back.

I gritted my teeth, voice hoarse:

"I already agreed to break our mating contract. What more do you want?"

They didn't expect me to give in so easily.

For a moment, the den went quiet.

Then Leona scoffed and shoved her moon crystal in my face:

"Fine. Send a pack-mind message and tell everyone yourself. Say that the broken contract was because you're a shameless rogue-lover. That it has nothing to do with our Alpha bloodline."

Fury surged through me. I could taste blood in my mouth.

"I didn't do anything. I was forced—"

But pack judgment is like a mountain.

No one believed me.

I stared at the hate-filled howls flooding the pack-mind link.

Humiliation washed over me like wolfsbane.

I started to tremble. My body instinctively curled in on itself.

Leona grabbed the blanket covering me and ripped it away.

"Here, everyone in the pack-mind, take a good look. See the kind of she-wolf she really is."

Because of my injuries, I couldn't shift to wolf form.

I was fully exposed.

The bandages on my body were soaked with blood, my wounds raw and festering.

The pack-mind exploded:

"By the Moon, what did she do to herself?" "Probably ran with rogues, looks like."

Leona's friends laughed as they connected deeper to the pack-mind:

"Let's show this to our unmated females. This is what happens when you don't respect pack law."

Every cruel word was another blade cutting through me.

I screamed, crying out from the depths of my soul:

"Please! Stop!"

I tried to get away, but my body gave out.

I crashed to the floor, the ritual stitches on my back tearing open. Blood poured out.

I couldn't breathe from the pain. I begged again and again for mercy.

But they just kept broadcasting to the pack-mind. Laughing.

I looked to Kain, desperate:

"Please… save me."

He walked over, took off his Alpha cloak… then looked into my eyes—and looked away.

"You're not worth saving."

He destroyed the last bit of hope I had.

Blood spilled from my mouth as I collapsed into darkness.

If I didn't need your kidney, you'd be dead by now.""
