Jamari’s POV Thoughts swirl around in my head as I lay wrapped up in Lucern’s warm embrace. We lay there in companionable silence as I work through the possibilities that swirl through my mind as my newfound powers settle in and mix with the powers that have been given to me by the others. As a Vampire Lucern has limited control over the dead, but as the Vampire King, that control is far more expansive to the point that he can bring the dead back to life, albeit with a cost of course. I have already tapped into that power when I brought Andrew back from the dead, but I wonder what else I could do. The magic that I pulled from Lucern before our bond was complete is nothing like what I can feel coursing through me at this very moment. A small voice is at the back of my mind telling me that I can do so much more than I ever thought was possible. I have tried with great difficulty to ignore the voice in my head, knowing no good can come from it, but a part of me is curious to know what
Lucern’s POVDespite my warnings, Jamari is dead set on trying to bring her sister back from the dead. While I can understand and appreciate her determination, I have also been on the other side of attempting such a thing and it did not go well for me. When my father lost his life a long time ago, I attempted to bring him back, but the creature that stood before me was no longer my father and I had no choice but to put him down.I do not want that for Jamari. She has had enough turmoil in her life these past few months, or years for her. Because of this, I have decided to help her with her mission. If she has any chance of succeeding at bringng her sister back from the dead, it will be greatly increased if she has me by my side. So here we are, standing in the dungeons, as she runs through the minds of the Vampires that she gathered during the banquet for any useful information about the attack on the castle. Jamari has assured us that she can do a deeper dive into their minds since
Jamari’s POV Learning that Damian is actually the illegitimate son of Lucern’s father was quite the shock when I was stumbling along inside of his mind. Out of all of the secrets that the Vampire could be hiding, that is not one that I was expecting. Anger fills the mate bond from Lucern, the feel and scent of it increasing by the second. Lucern suddenly raises his hand in front of him, his fingernails elongating until sharpened claws are in their place. “Lucern!” I yell out his name, but it is like he is a man possessed because he doesn’t indicate that he has heard me at all. Before Lucern can use his sharpened claws to slice through Damian’s throat, Kenji appears beside him and grabs hold of his wrist tightly. A sigh of relief leaves me. Lucern might not like Damian, but I am sure that he will be upset if he finds out after the fact that he has killed his own brother. When the trance that had taken over Lucern’s features finally appear to be lessening, I finally speak up and te
Jamari’s POVLucern met up with us in the conference room soon after we finished working out some of the stress that has plagued my mind and body. Unsurprisingly, Damian was standing at his side, a displeased look clear on his face. “I do not approve of your plan, my Queen.” He says before I can question Lucern on his sour mood. I am not surprised in the slightest that he disapproves of my plan to sacrifice his comrades in order to bring back someone that should not have lost their life so young. He should just be grateful that he is no longer one of my sacrifices instead of pouting about my plan. His comrades would have been sentenced to death anyways, at least with this way they can do some good before they die. “I am sorry for your loss.” It is the ony thing I can think to say to him that doesn’t sound as terrible as my thoughts. He flashes me a glaring look before turning his attention to the other people in the room and taking a seat, his arms crossed over in much the same way
Jamari’s POVDamien steps forward at Morgana’s words, his anger at the situation evident on his contorted face. “I will not stand here an-” His words were cut off mid-word when Morgana waved her hand in his direction, sending him into a deep sleep. His body crashed to the stone floor with a loud bang that echoed around the circular room. Lucern motioned with his head for two guards to come over and drag Damien’s lifeless body off to a corner somewhere. Once that distraction is over with, we all return our focus to the task at hand. The prisoners around us begin to whimper softly as their fates become more and more clear to them. The sound of their scared voices causes my heart to squeeze in my chest as guilt washes over me. Do I really have the right to sacrifice so many lives in the hopes that I will be able to bring back my twin? And what happens if we go through all of this and it doesn’t even work? Then I would be responsible for so many deaths for nothing. A presence appears
Levi’s POVStaying calm while a tiny snake moves from Morgana’s chalice and becomes a much larger, very much alive snake, was hard enough…but watching said snake then shrink down and latch onto Jamari’s hand, that is impossible. The snake wraps its body around Jamari’s hand and up her arm, causing me to worry for her safety. Remiel, Kenji, Lucern, and I all jump forward at the same time to try and dislodge the snake from her hand, but we all slam into a forcefield that appears around her. Desperation floods my system, possibly originating from me or one of the others, but drawing me in none the less. My fists raise up and begin to pound against the magical forcefield in an attempt to get to my mate. How does this woman keep finding herself in these kinds of situations? It is like some kind of skill that she has to find herself in situations where she is in danger. Life with her will definitely never get boring, that is for sure. Jamari suddenly drops to the stone floor, her fall br
Jamari’s POVThe sudden brightness after being in the dark causes spots to form in my eyes. Shutting my eyes tightly against the blinding pain, I lay my head back against the stone floor to gather myself. What just happened? Strong hands grab me around my waist and pull me into a very familiar male chest. Turning my head, I breathe in Levi’s fire and brimstone scent, relishing in the undertones of morning dew that lingers to his skin. The tension that I didn’t realize was squeezing my body quickly evaporates at his touch. Levi pushes me away from his body, forcing me to open up my eyes and look at him. Concern is etched into every chiseled line of his handsome face as his hands and eyes roam over me to check that I am really okay. When he finds nothing wrong with me, he pulls me in tightly, squeezing me to his chest and stealing the breath from my lungs.A masculine chuckle echoes around me from behind moments before I can see Kenji come up beside us and place his hand on Levi’s sho
Jamari’s POV Wind starts to move around the six of us, the humming sound of its movement slowly begins to drown out all of the noises from the guards standing around watching this go down. The whimpers of the prisoners that are to be sacrificed mix in and blend with the wind, creating an eerie sound that whirls around us, rising in volumn by the second. “Grab hold of our energy and pull it into your body.” Morgana’s quiet voice barely makes it over the sound of the wind and the cries of those about to be sacrificed. Nodding my head in her direction, I close my eyes so I can concentrate on the different flows of energy that I can feel coming off of my mates. The different flows of their energy slowly flows into my body, providing me with warmth, strength, light, darkness, and the chilling cold that comes from Lucern’s necromagic. Each energy enters my body and then settles in my stomach, mixing together with the power that I have inside of me. Soon after, a ball of our mixed energy
I have decided to end book 2 where it is. Thank you all for your continued support and positive reviews. I will be starting Book 3, the final book in the series, soon and will have it up by next month. I am currently dealing with a family emergency that might make my planned timeline a little longer than I would like so please bear with me as I plan out how to end Jamari's journey. The next book will introduce the last of Jamari's mates and will bring everything that has happened in the last two books to a head as well. I am so grateful to everyone that has stuck by me throughout this journey and I am anxious to see what is in store for Jamari and her mates. All my love, Heidi Monath
Jamari’s POV‘Did this fake bitch just say what I think she said?’ My body moves before I can register what is happening. The feeling of my body flying through the air as I launch myself towards where Sabina lays on the floor staring up at Lucern with lovesick eyes. ‘I will rip her still beating heart from her chest.’Something grabs hold of my waist before wrapping their strong arms around the slender area and pulls me close to a hard body. Howard’s scent invades my senses as my enraged mind refocuses on what is happening in front of me. A hand moves up to clamp over my lips in a warning to be quiet. When Howard drops me back to the hardwood floors, I swirl around on him in anger and glare at him. He gives me a sheepish look before turning his attention back to Sabina and Lucern. Letting out a huff of anger, I turn myself back to the bitch as well, plotting out her slow demise in my head as I watch.Lucern stares at her quietly, disbelief clear on his handsome cocoa features. His bo
Lucern’s POV“No one is here.” A disappointed look appears on Sabina’s face as we make our way into Howard’s hidden office that only a select few people are able to access. As we look around the large room, we find no one in sight, but I can sense my mate’s scent somewhere in this room, so I know she is here. Before I can call for Jamari to let her know that I can sense her in the room, Sabina suddenly throws herself at me. Her body drapes over mine, sending confusion through my body as she grabs hold of me tightly. The scent of blood fills the room, causing my nostrils to flare as I seek out the scent. Shoving Sabina to the side, I look around the room in search of where the scent of blood could be coming from. Sabina whimpers from behind me, drawing my attention to her direction. Blood flows from her stomach, coating her hands as she presses down on the wound that has blood flowing out of it like a river. My senses go on overdrive as I search the room for the unknown threat that
Jamari’s POV“I have brought you here to offer you a warning.” My body stiffens at Howard’s words as a feeling of dread settles in the pit of my stomach. Howard motions for me to take a seat on one of the couches in the sitting area, a serious look taking over his features as he follows me over and takes a seat on a couch that faces the one that I sat on. “I am not the only one on the council that feels that Lucern has made a mistake by taking you as his Queen.” Howard says, an apologetic look pulling at his features. “That was of course before I realized that you would be an asset to the Vampire Realm.” He says, earning a snort from me in response. “I know that does not mean much now, but I do hope you will give me the chance to earn your trust.” A gentle smile appears on Howard’s face as he looks over at me. Even after everything that has been said and done by him recently, I can feel deep in my bones that Howard is telling the truth and that he means me no harm. And if that wasn
Jamari’s POV“Some might call you foolish for letting Howard off so easily, my lady.” Nodding my head in agreement, I walk out of the door without looking around at the disapproving faces of the rest of Lucern’s council members. I had originally come in search of Lucern to see what had gotten him so upset all of a sudden, I was not expecting to walk into a council meeting that was about me. “She is right, my lady.” The sound of Howard’s unexpected voice pulls me out of my thoughts, startling me slightly as I jump in place, my hand moving up to grasp the base of my throat in order to calm my nerves. An apologetic look appears on Howard’s face as he moves off of the wall that he was reclining on. “I did not mean to startle you, my lady.” Howard stops his forward movement a few feet away from me, nervously moving from foot to foot as an internal struggle appears on his face. “What is it?” I ask him curiously. Something is clearly bothering the old Vampire and with the way things ended
Lucern’s POVSilence moves around the room as everyone thinks over Jamari’s question. Removal from the council has never happened before, not in a situation like this at least. There have been times in history where members were not rechosen for the role of council member, but no one has ever been removed mid-term like Jamari is suggesting. Council members, as well as other subjects, have been sentenced to death for less than what Howard has been accused of. Most rulers do not take too kindly to their subjects speaking ill of themselves or their mates. “You do not wish for Howard’s head, my lady?” Sabina asks, an intrigued look on her face. She leans forward in her seat and places her chin on the back of her joined hands. Her brow lifts in interest as she stares over at Jamari and waits for her response.I lean back in my seat and watch as Jamari squirms in her seat, uncomfortable as ever with being the center of attention. Her gaze moves over my council members until her eyes land
Lucern’s POV “Don’t do something you might regret for me, my King.” Jamari’s whispered words echo around in my head as I struggle to regain control over the bloodlust that had slowly taken control over my actions. It is not often that I allow myself to get so enraged that the bloodlust takes over, it was something that I learned to control at an early age. Adrian steps up to stand beside Jamari, amusement glinting in those eyes of his as he looks between the two of us. Whispers begin to fill the quiet space all around us, Jamari’s presence soothing the fear that had my council members as still as a statue only moments before. Jamari lifts up her right hand and places it on the arm that belongs to the hand that is still currently squeezing the life out of Howard. Disgust takes over my face as I retract my claws from his neck but do not release my hold from around his neck. Within seconds the deep gashes around his neck has healed enough to stop the flow of blood from continuing to
Lucern’s POV“Sire, when are we going to unlock the Vampire Realm? Many of our subjects are complaining about the lack of freedom, and the subjects that are trapped on the outside of the Vampire Realm are starting to get antsy.” The circle of my council of advisors nod their head in agreement at Rudolph’s claim. Count Adrian leans back in his seat, his eyes surveying the older men that sit around us in the conference room that is usually used for conducting business. “Would the people rather we come under attack?” Adrian asks, his brow lifting in challenge. The council at least has the decency to look embarrassed that they had forgotten about the threat. “Has the threat not been subdued?” One of the men speaks up, a glint of mischief blatantly clear in his eyes. Howard is the one council member that I would love to get rid of. He never misses an opportunity to cause issues for me within the Realm and I still have not figured out what his problem is with me. I am the rightful heir t
Jamari’s POV“Are you sure that this is a good idea?” Kenji asks the same question that has been asked a hundred times since I told my mates that we need to get into the Fae Realm. “What if us unlocking the Fae Realm is what sets the events that you saw into motion? We can’t be hasty with our decision making.” Kenji’s words make me pause my speed reading of the spell books that Lucern has available in his massive library. A frown scrunches up the corners of my eyes as my brows draw together in thought. My eyes move up to find Kenji’s worried gaze. “I have to be there for him Kenji.” Sorrow fills my words as I am once again reminded of the scene that I watched play out before my eyes. Lifting my head for the first time in an hour, I look around in search of my Demon King whom I have given strict orders not to leave my side until we know for sure that the vision of him dying in that clearly does not come to pass. “Where is Levi?” I ask, sniffing the air to see if I can catch his scent
