High Queen Titania’s POV (The Fairy Queen- The Seelie Court)
“Your Highness.” Alette’s frantic voice floats into my bedchamber as she makes her way closer to my rooms. A glance at the clock hanging on the wall causes a frown to form on my brows. What is Alette doing running through the castle halls when everyone should be asleep?
“Your Highness.” Her high pitched voice sounds once more, drawing closer to my rooms. A heavy sigh leaves my lips as I move towards the door leading out to the hall to stop my lady in waiting before she wakes up the whole Royal Court. The last thing I want to do this late in the day is deal with their whining over being woken up.
Before my hand can close over the door handle, the door comes flying towards me, narrowly missing smacking me in the face. “Your High-” Alette’s words die in her throat when her startled gaze meets mine behind the door.
Alette freezes in place, her tiny wings buzzing furiously in the air to keep her afloat as she waits for my temper to explode from almost being hit with the door. My temper that never comes because clearly something is happening for the small creature to be buzzing through the halls screaming my name.
“What is happening Alette?” I prompt when the silence between us grows. Alette jumps back startled as if I slapped her with my words. After shaking her head, the urgency returns to her face as her eyes lock on mine.
“High Queen Mab has sent her Dark Hunt soldiers over the barrier dividing the Seelie and Unseelie Courts.” Alette says quickly. “They are on their way to the castle as we speak.”
Surprise flits across my face at the news. High Queen Mab hasn’t dared to attack us in thousands of years. Not since King Oberon was wounded in that fight with her first husband Arawn the Elder King.
My eyes widen as I turn to Alette sharply, causing her to flinch in her spot. “She is after our King.” It was only a matter of time before the Unseelie Court caught wind of King Oberon’s current weakened state. There was no way we would be able to keep it hidden forever.
Ever since the foolish King attempted to break free of the Fae Realm those centuries ago he has been barely hanging on to life. No one knows for sure what happened to him while on the Mortal Realm, but whatever it was almost destroyed him, and in turn has weakened our Kingdom.
“Gather the Generals and have them meet me in the War Room immediately. And send the Giants to guard our King. No one must take him from us or all is lost.” Alette nods her head before hurrying off out the door to do the Queen’s bidding.
After casting a longing look to the giant moss covered bed situated off to the side, my hand reaches for the string that will summon the remaining ladies in waiting to assist me into my war gear. It appears there will be no sleep tonight.
High Queen Mab’s POV (The Queen of Air and Darkness- The Unseelie Court)
“Our scouts have finally found out where they are keeping King Oberon locked away.” Ice, the leader of my Dark Hunt soldiers, tells me as he stops in front of my throne and bows before me.
A malicious smile spreads across my face at his words. “Excellent!” I exclaim, rising from my throne quickly. “Get your men together and bring him to me.” Ice rises from his bow. “It is time that King Oberon and I have a little chat.”
“As you wish your Majesty.” With one final bow, Ice turns sharply and leaves the room at a hurried pace.
Once the sound of Ice’s footsteps can no longer be heard from within the throne room, I settle back into my place on the King’s throne, letting out a heavy sigh. Soon King Oberon will pay for his part in the slaying of my beloved Arawn.
A snort from behind me draws me from my thoughts. My eyes slide to the right just as my eldest son Kieran comes into view. “Father was no more your beloved than any of your lovers since him.” Kieran says, dropping into the throne placed beside me.
“It is rude to read people’s minds Kieran, especially your mothers.” I tell him, slamming walls up in my mind to prevent him from reading anything further, earning a chuckle from him.
“So you’re finally taking my advice and going after the old bastard King.” Kieran says, ignoring my mind reading comment.
“As you pointed out.” I begin, turning my body to face my eldest son. “With King Oberon out of the way there is a good chance that you will be the Wolf Queen’s Fae mate and then we will have control over all of the Realms.” I finish speaking with a shrug of my shoulders.
Kieran rubs his chin, a look of deep thought passing over his face as he ponders what I’ve said. His unconcerned thinking doesn’t fool me though. I’ve been around long enough to know when he is scheming. After a few moments of silence, Kieran finally lets me in on where his thoughts had gone.
“In order for this to work you will have to take out High Queen Titania’s heir as well. Leaving me the eldest heir for all of the Fae.” His sharp eyes meet mine as he relays this information. What game is my son playing now? Everyone knows that King Oberon has only female children.
“I did say Titania’s heir.” Kieran says, a devilish smile spreading across his face at the slip of the walls around my mind. Kieran being away for the last thousand years has made my walls deplete in strength from disuse and easily forgotten about. Raising them back up I glare at Kieran’s unashamed face.
“High Queen Titania has only birthed King Oberon’s children over the millenia’s, her heirs would be his heirs.” My eyes narrow on my son. “And stop reading my mind.” I tell him sharply. “If I want you to know something then I will tell you it.”
Kieran’s response is a deep rumble of laughter that fills the quiet space of the throne room, echoing off of the walls all around us. “Titania has most definitely had a child outside of King Oberon Mother.” He says smugly.
“And where is this child then pray tell.” I ask, growing weary with being around my son.
“Now that is the question of the evening Mother.” He says instead of answering. Great! More riddles. I roll my eyes and sink back into my throne. “What I do know is that the child she bore was a son and that he was raised by his father in one of the other Realms.”
“And where did you come by this information, Son?” The word son comes out with disgust. Gone were the days when I cherished the little bundle that I held in my arms. The sweet innocent child that was once my Kieran has long since died and in his place is a dreaded man that I would gladly be rid of if he wasn’t my son.
A knowing smile spreads across Kieran’s face, letting me know that my walls slipped once again and that he heard my disdain for him but doesn’t care. “Don’t you worry about that Mother.” He tells me sweetly. “You just get your Dark Hunt soldiers to take care of King Oberon and Titania’s heir and then the Realms will be ours.”
Blanking my expression and mind, I nod my head in agreement and silently watch as Kieran makes his way out of the throne room. I didn’t think for a second that Kieran intends to share the power of the Realms with me, or anybody, even the Wolf Queen. Kieran intends to take control of the Realms for himself.
A smile spreads across my face as an idea forms.
Instead of working for Kieran to get rid of King Oberon and High Queen Titania’s supposed son, I could instead get rid of the Wolf Queen, thus removing the possibility that Kieran will ever gain Kingdom over the Realms, myself included.
Once the Wolf Queen is taken care of then I can set my sights back on King Oberon and go after this son of High Queen Titania’s and take over control of the whole Fae Realm. Yes, I like that idea much better than my eldest son being in power.
High Queen Titania’s POV
“Your Highness, the Dark Hunt is retreating back to the Unseelie Court.” Alette says, flying quickly into the room as she speaks. My eyes search the horizon for signs of the Dark Hunt’s retreat, but nothing is visible in the darkness.
What is High Queen Mab upto? Why would she march on the castle and then retreat at the last minute?
“Tell the guards to stay vigilant until we know for sure this isn’t a trick.” Something doesn’t seem right.
Lucern’s POVMy body stiffens as I jerk to look at the woman laying beside me. “Morgana?” I ask, still not believing what my eyes are so clearly telling me. “Who else would I be, my love?” She asks, raising one eyebrow in question as she looks up at me from her place on the bed beside me.A frown forms on my brows as I try to wrap my head around what the devil was happening. I was sure it was Jamari that was in bed with me. Though, now that I think about it with a clear head, it is probably a good thing that it wasn’t Jamari that was in bed with me. I do believe that having her even once would be enough to tie me to her forever. “What is on your mind Lucern?” Morgana asks me, concern crossing her features as she sits up in bed to get a better look at me. Her silk nightgown falls back over her exposed breasts and stomach at the movement, catching my eye momentarily. Morgana was a beautiful woman and once upon a time would have been enough to hold my interest for the rest of our long
Jamari’s POV ‘Do you think I ruined our chances of having him for a mate when I…’ Rieka cut off her thought with an exasperated sigh. ‘I was just so tired of waiting around on him.’ She tells me softly. ‘I know Rieka.’, was all I was able to say as my mind drifted back to the incident Rieka spoke of from a month ago. *Flashback to 1 Month Ago* “He is never going to agree to be my mate.” I cry out as I plop myself on the luxurious bed I’ve been staying in for the last month here in the Vampire Realm. “Everytime he sees me he runs in the other direction.” A pout forms on my lips as I lift myself up in bed and cross my arms under my aching breasts. Being pregnant is no fun like those lying mothers like to tell me. My feet and back aches, my boobs feel like someone is constantly grabbing them, and I pee like a hundred times a day. What could possibly be magical about this? The pout on my face deepens as my thoughts drift away from Lucern and onto my pregnancy. My hand unconscious
High Queen Mab’s POV“You wished to see me your Majesty.” Ice, the Elf leader of my Dark Hunt soldiers says, placing one hand over his heart as he bows to me. My eyes drift over his attractive frame, not for the first time wondering if he might make a suitable donor for future strong children.Letting out a reluctant sigh, I let that thought die like the countless times before and straighten in my seat at the table situated in my room. Ice would father fine warriors indeed, but then the loss of his skills would be a waste when I inevitably had to kill him once our children were born. Ice’s movement as he rises from his bow draws my attention back to him and the reason I have called him here. With one final perusal of his fine body, I remove thoughts of bedding him from my mind. “We have a need for strong soldiers in the near future.” I tell him. Ice’s eyes meet mine knowingly as he waits for me to give the command. “Gather your brothers.” I tell him, rising from my seat by the windo
Lucern’s POV“Have you ever heard of the Wild Hunt Lucern?” Count Adrian asks, drawing my attention out of my thoughts about running into Jamari in the hallway while leaving my room and back to the meeting I called in order to avoid her. Not that calling Count Adrian from his bed to meet has helped with my wandering thoughts. Jamari is still the top thing on my mind and it is taking every fiber of my control not to storm out of this room to find her.“For Gods sake Lucern. Why would you pull me out of my bed with-” His words die as he searches his brain for the name of his latest conquest. A frown mars his face when he is unable to remember the name of the woman waiting for him in his bed. After shaking his head, he continues. “Why would you call me here if you’re just going to ignore me?” He asks, sitting back in his seat with his arms crossed over his chest. Not many people would have the nerve to speak to me in this manner, but Adrian is like a brother to me and doesn’t fear me a
Levi’s POV“Oh?” I ask Lucern, a knowing grin spreading across my face. Of course the Vampire wouldn’t like the idea of Jamari leaving his Realm, it is what Kenji and I were counting on to get his ass in gear. Lucern freezes in his spot, as if realizing what he just said. Count Adrian looks between Lucern and I before shaking his head and making his way out of the door. “I will catch the two of you later. I have been away from my bed long enough tonight.” He pauses at the door before adding, “I will meet with you again in the morning Lucern.”Lucern turns his attention to his advisor, nodding his head in agreement before turning his attention back to me. “Does Jamari want to leave?” He finally asks after some time has passed. The thought of lying to the man crosses my mind, but I decide to tell him the truth. “Jamari is not happy about leaving and is doing everything she can to prevent us from taking her away from…” I let my sentence die, allowing Lucern to fill in the blank. A loo
Levi’s POV“You look just fine dear.” My mother tells him, surprising me. Up until two months ago, my mother was the bad guy and had ruined my father’s life. Even after all of this time it is still hard to not picture the evil woman I always thought she was. “You two aren’t…” I grimace at the thought of my parents getting back together. “Heavens no.” My mother says, laughing at my discomfort. “Your mother and I are not interested in trying for a real relationship.” My father adds, as he picks himself up off of the basement floor and walks towards Remiel’s cell. “We were never meant for each other.”“Besides,” A twinkle appears in my mother’s eye, catching me off guard. Has my mother ever looked so happy? “A certain Fate has been coming around quite often since your father’s release from his prison.” She continues, a teasing note to her voice. “Definitely could have done without that picture in my head.” I tell them, a shiver of disgust moving through me. “Sex is perfectly natural
Kenji's POV“If Levi doesn’t show up in time then we don’t have to go see Morgana, right?” The hopeful look on Jamari’s face causes a chuckle to move up through my chest as I shake my head in the negative. “We are going to see Morgana whether Levi arrives in time or not.” I tell her, crossing my arms over my chest to shut down any argument she might come up with. A wicked gleam appears in her eyes as she eyes me up and down. Uneasiness moves through me when she begins to move closer to where I stand near the door to our rooms. Ren perks up in anticipation as our mate makes her way closer to us, remembering the last time she tried to talk us out of going to our appointment.A groan leaves my lips as I watch her hips sashay closer to me, a come hither look on her gorgeous face. Before she is able to reach me and shred the remaining shreds of control I have, the smell of fire and brimstone fills the room, dousing us in water. A sigh of relief leaves my lips, while Jamari stops midstep
Lucern’s POV“I will be away from the Vampire Realm for a couple of days Morgana, maybe longer, I am not sure as of yet.” Disappointment crosses Morgana’s face at the thought of my absence. “Is it because of the wolf?” She asks, speaking up about the tension between Jamari and I for the first time in these past two months. My legs shift in place as guilt consumes me once more. “It is not because of Jamari.” I tell her. At least not totally about Jamari, I add in my head. “Count Adrian and I have some important matters to look into that could take some time to wrap up.” Those important matters pertaining to the Wild Hunt and the Dark Hunt soldiers. If the soldiers are on the move eighty years early for their Wild Hunt, then something big must be close to happening, and I have a feeling that that something big has something to do with Jamari. The time is just too coincidental for my liking, and thankfully Adrian agrees with me and has offered to help me look into the matter. I might
I have decided to end book 2 where it is. Thank you all for your continued support and positive reviews. I will be starting Book 3, the final book in the series, soon and will have it up by next month. I am currently dealing with a family emergency that might make my planned timeline a little longer than I would like so please bear with me as I plan out how to end Jamari's journey. The next book will introduce the last of Jamari's mates and will bring everything that has happened in the last two books to a head as well. I am so grateful to everyone that has stuck by me throughout this journey and I am anxious to see what is in store for Jamari and her mates. All my love, Heidi Monath
Jamari’s POV‘Did this fake bitch just say what I think she said?’ My body moves before I can register what is happening. The feeling of my body flying through the air as I launch myself towards where Sabina lays on the floor staring up at Lucern with lovesick eyes. ‘I will rip her still beating heart from her chest.’Something grabs hold of my waist before wrapping their strong arms around the slender area and pulls me close to a hard body. Howard’s scent invades my senses as my enraged mind refocuses on what is happening in front of me. A hand moves up to clamp over my lips in a warning to be quiet. When Howard drops me back to the hardwood floors, I swirl around on him in anger and glare at him. He gives me a sheepish look before turning his attention back to Sabina and Lucern. Letting out a huff of anger, I turn myself back to the bitch as well, plotting out her slow demise in my head as I watch.Lucern stares at her quietly, disbelief clear on his handsome cocoa features. His bo
Lucern’s POV“No one is here.” A disappointed look appears on Sabina’s face as we make our way into Howard’s hidden office that only a select few people are able to access. As we look around the large room, we find no one in sight, but I can sense my mate’s scent somewhere in this room, so I know she is here. Before I can call for Jamari to let her know that I can sense her in the room, Sabina suddenly throws herself at me. Her body drapes over mine, sending confusion through my body as she grabs hold of me tightly. The scent of blood fills the room, causing my nostrils to flare as I seek out the scent. Shoving Sabina to the side, I look around the room in search of where the scent of blood could be coming from. Sabina whimpers from behind me, drawing my attention to her direction. Blood flows from her stomach, coating her hands as she presses down on the wound that has blood flowing out of it like a river. My senses go on overdrive as I search the room for the unknown threat that
Jamari’s POV“I have brought you here to offer you a warning.” My body stiffens at Howard’s words as a feeling of dread settles in the pit of my stomach. Howard motions for me to take a seat on one of the couches in the sitting area, a serious look taking over his features as he follows me over and takes a seat on a couch that faces the one that I sat on. “I am not the only one on the council that feels that Lucern has made a mistake by taking you as his Queen.” Howard says, an apologetic look pulling at his features. “That was of course before I realized that you would be an asset to the Vampire Realm.” He says, earning a snort from me in response. “I know that does not mean much now, but I do hope you will give me the chance to earn your trust.” A gentle smile appears on Howard’s face as he looks over at me. Even after everything that has been said and done by him recently, I can feel deep in my bones that Howard is telling the truth and that he means me no harm. And if that wasn
Jamari’s POV“Some might call you foolish for letting Howard off so easily, my lady.” Nodding my head in agreement, I walk out of the door without looking around at the disapproving faces of the rest of Lucern’s council members. I had originally come in search of Lucern to see what had gotten him so upset all of a sudden, I was not expecting to walk into a council meeting that was about me. “She is right, my lady.” The sound of Howard’s unexpected voice pulls me out of my thoughts, startling me slightly as I jump in place, my hand moving up to grasp the base of my throat in order to calm my nerves. An apologetic look appears on Howard’s face as he moves off of the wall that he was reclining on. “I did not mean to startle you, my lady.” Howard stops his forward movement a few feet away from me, nervously moving from foot to foot as an internal struggle appears on his face. “What is it?” I ask him curiously. Something is clearly bothering the old Vampire and with the way things ended
Lucern’s POVSilence moves around the room as everyone thinks over Jamari’s question. Removal from the council has never happened before, not in a situation like this at least. There have been times in history where members were not rechosen for the role of council member, but no one has ever been removed mid-term like Jamari is suggesting. Council members, as well as other subjects, have been sentenced to death for less than what Howard has been accused of. Most rulers do not take too kindly to their subjects speaking ill of themselves or their mates. “You do not wish for Howard’s head, my lady?” Sabina asks, an intrigued look on her face. She leans forward in her seat and places her chin on the back of her joined hands. Her brow lifts in interest as she stares over at Jamari and waits for her response.I lean back in my seat and watch as Jamari squirms in her seat, uncomfortable as ever with being the center of attention. Her gaze moves over my council members until her eyes land
Lucern’s POV “Don’t do something you might regret for me, my King.” Jamari’s whispered words echo around in my head as I struggle to regain control over the bloodlust that had slowly taken control over my actions. It is not often that I allow myself to get so enraged that the bloodlust takes over, it was something that I learned to control at an early age. Adrian steps up to stand beside Jamari, amusement glinting in those eyes of his as he looks between the two of us. Whispers begin to fill the quiet space all around us, Jamari’s presence soothing the fear that had my council members as still as a statue only moments before. Jamari lifts up her right hand and places it on the arm that belongs to the hand that is still currently squeezing the life out of Howard. Disgust takes over my face as I retract my claws from his neck but do not release my hold from around his neck. Within seconds the deep gashes around his neck has healed enough to stop the flow of blood from continuing to
Lucern’s POV“Sire, when are we going to unlock the Vampire Realm? Many of our subjects are complaining about the lack of freedom, and the subjects that are trapped on the outside of the Vampire Realm are starting to get antsy.” The circle of my council of advisors nod their head in agreement at Rudolph’s claim. Count Adrian leans back in his seat, his eyes surveying the older men that sit around us in the conference room that is usually used for conducting business. “Would the people rather we come under attack?” Adrian asks, his brow lifting in challenge. The council at least has the decency to look embarrassed that they had forgotten about the threat. “Has the threat not been subdued?” One of the men speaks up, a glint of mischief blatantly clear in his eyes. Howard is the one council member that I would love to get rid of. He never misses an opportunity to cause issues for me within the Realm and I still have not figured out what his problem is with me. I am the rightful heir t
Jamari’s POV“Are you sure that this is a good idea?” Kenji asks the same question that has been asked a hundred times since I told my mates that we need to get into the Fae Realm. “What if us unlocking the Fae Realm is what sets the events that you saw into motion? We can’t be hasty with our decision making.” Kenji’s words make me pause my speed reading of the spell books that Lucern has available in his massive library. A frown scrunches up the corners of my eyes as my brows draw together in thought. My eyes move up to find Kenji’s worried gaze. “I have to be there for him Kenji.” Sorrow fills my words as I am once again reminded of the scene that I watched play out before my eyes. Lifting my head for the first time in an hour, I look around in search of my Demon King whom I have given strict orders not to leave my side until we know for sure that the vision of him dying in that clearly does not come to pass. “Where is Levi?” I ask, sniffing the air to see if I can catch his scent
