Nick’s POV

The moment I step into the hospital room her parents give me a sad smile, my heart clenches like a fist inside my chest.

“We will go home and get some of her things.” Jennifer says and I nod.

Her and her husband leave the room leaving Josh and me staring silently at Mariah.

The steady beep of the heart monitor is the only sound breaking the silence, but even that doesn’t ease the fear curling in my gut.

Mariah lies still, too still. Her dark lashes rest against her pale cheeks, her body fragile beneath the thin white blanket. Wires snake from her arms, monitors tracking her every breath, yet she seems so… lifeless.

I stop at the foot of the bed, frozen, unable to take another step. My body screams at me to move, to touch her, to make sure she’s real, but my mind is stuck in the memories of the past few hours—the fear, the chase, the moment I thought I’d never see her again.

I should have been there.

The guilt crashes into me like a tidal wave, drowning out everything else

Nick POVI pick up my best friend and his little sister, who don't look so little anymore. Damn, I think to myself, when did she get that beautiful body. Those big round breasts that look like they don't fit in my hands and that round perky ass. I could picture myself biting it. Fuck, what the hell am I thinking? My best friend Josh would kill me if he heard what I just thought about his sister.Driving to the school, I am urged to look at her through the view mirror. I see her look at me, and I wink at her, causing her to roll her eyes. I look away and smirk."So, how was training camp?" I hear my little sister say, and I raise my eyebrow.Since when is she interested in training camp? "Training was good. But I was dying to return to all the beautiful ladies," Josh says. And I see Rose blush through the view mirror. What the hell has gotten into her? I think to myself damn teenager hormones. I wonder if that's what happened with Mariah. I heard Josh beat the crap out of Jacob for s

Mariah POVI start walking away when I hear an annoying, pitchy voice calling Nick. I look back and see Mila running towards him."Babe, there you are," I hear Mila say.I roll my eyes, "I swear they are meant for each other, both annoying as hell," I laugh.I finally reach my classroom and peek through the door window that Mr. Villanueva already started the math lesson."Ughh, this asshole made me late," I groan."Are you going to stand there or come in, Ms. Cruz?" Mr. Villanueva says."Fuck, a great way to start the freaking school year," I think to myself as I'm walking in the classroom. The rest of the morning goes smoothly and fast. Now it's time for lunch. I put my things in the locker and headed to the cafeteria to meet with Rose and the others. I walk into the cafeteria and see none other than Alpha asshat kissing with someone that's not Mila. How can Mila stay with an annoying playboy like him? Then again, she is the same. Since they aren't mates, they don't mind sharing each

Nick POVI see her walking distracted, and I follow her. It's not like anyone would think anything about it. I have the same class she has. I see the coast is clear, and I catch up to her. I grab her neck from behind and slam her against the wall."What the fuck is your problem, Nick" she spits angrily."You are my problem," I reply, gripping her neck tighter."I did nothing to you; now unhand me," she says, her eyes blazing."You did more than nothing since when you flirt with guys?" I spit angrily. She looks at me confused, and pouts her lips. I can't help but lick my lips and wonder if her lips taste just as good as she smells. Her smell drives me crazy. Why does she have to smell like my two favorite fruits, pineapple and a hint of coconut? I look at her slowly. Damn, this woman is gorgeous, I think to myself while I admire her breasts. She takes me off my trans when she growls."I can flirt with whoever I want, Nick. I'm not your property." She yells.I close the distance between

Mariah POVI’m walking to the field, mad and confused. Who the hell does he think he is kissing and grabbing me like that? Ugh, I hate that my body reacted now it did. Stupid hormones. Fucking asshat Alpha, if he ever tries that again, I will chop his dick off. I tried to calm down before I arrived at the field. I can sense him behind me, and it only irritates me more. Sparring should help relieve some of this anger. I finally arrive at the field and see that many are sparring already.“You late Miss Cruz.” Mr. Peters says.“I’m sorry it won’t happen again,” I reply.“Find a partner and start sparring.” Mr. Peters says. “I’ll be her partner,” Logan says.I smile at him and walk towards him.“You, okay?” He asks worriedly.“I’m fine,” I say with a smile.“Okay, Ready? Don’t worry, I’ll take it easy on you.” He says with a smirk.I raise my eyebrow. “Don’t. I’m sure I can handle you.” I say with an innocent smile. We go to our spots, and we get ready to begin sparring. When I hear a lo

Mariah POVHeading out of the house, the first thing I noticed was that Nick switched cars. I must admit he has good taste for cars. He is now driving a White GMC. We reach the car, and when I get in, my best friend Rose sits on her phone. She is wearing a royal blue casual dress with some silver sandals. Her hair is in a high ponytail, and I can tell she is wearing some blue eye shadow, which she does only for special occasions. She is more of a nude-colored type of girl. We head to the party, and as we get close, we see a lot of cars in the driveway. We are now at the Silver Mountain pack, and the scenery is quite beautiful. Nick parks in one of the reserved parking for alphas, and we all get out of the car.“You guys made it,” Logan says. “You know we never miss a good party,” Josh replies.“Well, just head inside. Everyone is out in the back by the pool,” Logan says.“Alright, cool,” Nick replies. We head to the backyard, and what I see shocks me. The place is beautiful, from the

Nick’s POVThe tension in the air is thick as we make our way down the hall toward the interrogation room. My mind is still reeling from what the two women did for Mariah. They risked everything to save her, and I need to know exactly what happened—and who’s responsible. But something feels… off.Josh has been quiet. Too quiet. His footsteps are heavy beside me, but his energy is all over the place. His usual steady presence feels… unhinged. His breathing is sharp, his fists clenching and unclenching like he’s barely keeping himself from losing control.“Josh, you good?” I ask, glancing at him as we approach the door.“Yeah…” His voice is strained, but his jaw is locked so tight I’m surprised he hasn’t cracked a tooth. But the second I open the door, everything changes. The moment the scent of the two women hits the air, Josh freezes beside me like he’s been hit by a freight train.“Josh?” I say again, but he’s not listening. His entire body goes rigid, his eyes locking onto the small

Mariah’s POV (In Her Mind)Darkness. Thick and suffocating. It wraps around me like a heavy blanket, pressing down on me, making it hard to breathe. I don’t know how long I’ve been here. Days? Weeks? Time doesn’t exist in this place. It’s just me and the emptiness, stretching endlessly in every direction.“Is this what death feels like?”The thought whispers through my mind, chilling me to the core. But no… no, I can’t be dead. I refuse to believe that. There’s too much left unfinished. Too many people who need me.“Nick…”His name echoes through my mind, a lifeline in the sea of nothingness. I hold onto it tightly, letting the memory of his touch, his voice, his love, ground me. I picture his face—those intense, stormy eyes filled with worry, his jaw clenched in determination. I know he’s out there, searching for me, refusing to give up.“I’m still here,” I whisper to him, even though I know he can’t hear me. “I’m fighting. Please don’t give up on me.”But the bond between us feels…

My wolf is pacing inside me, restless, demanding action.I finish rinsing off, grabbing the soap, but I am barely focused on the task at hand. My thoughts keep drifting back to her—Mariah. Her absence, the broken pack link between us, the pain I can’t shake. Every minute that passes without her feels like an eternity. I can feel the loss deep in my chest, and the desperation is eating at me. I’m lost in my thoughts when my dad’s voice comes in my head.“Nick, we have news. They found Mariah.” My father says through the mind-link.I stop mid-motion, the bar of soap slipping from my hand and falling to the floor with a dull thud. My breath catches in my throat as the words
