My phone buzzes on the table, pulling me out of my thoughts. I glance at the screen—Orion’s name flashes across it. I haven’t spoken to him since I called Nero a couple of weeks ago, and something tells me this isn’t a casual check-in.

I swipe to answer, bringing the phone to my ear. “Orion, what’s going on?”

“Siris, we’ve got a problem.” His voice is tense, clipped, like he’s barely holding it together. “It’s Aeron.”

A cold chill runs through me. “What about Aeron?”

There’s a pause, and in that silence, I know it’s bad. Worse than I could’ve imagined.

“Someone took him. He’s missing.”

The words hit me like a punch to the gut. Aeron? Taken? My little brother? My mind races, trying to process what I just heard, but it doesn’t make sense. Aeron isn’t part of this. He wanted to live a normal life. Who the fuck would do this, and why?

“How the fuck did that happen?”

“We don’t know yet. He was on his way back to the packhouse from his college. He never made it. We got word a couple
